    May 2022 surgery?

Ooh- that’s next week for me, can’t wait. Love both.
  2. Hey! I was curious if anyone is experiencing this or has experienced this in the past. I'm a little over 3 months post op and as I transition more into regular eating, I find that I CANNOT eat in the mornings to early afternoon. Like my body can't physically handle food until around 2pm. If I eat something before then it gets "stuck" or I get the slimeee and need to puke. Doesn't matter what it is, I try eggs, protein yogurt, beans, cheese, veggies, fruit, all of it gets stuck and I get nauseous for an hour or so. This has been a recent development...maybe the past month this has started. It's not a stricture because past 2 I have no issues regardless of what the food is and don't feel my restriction at night but I do get nauseous if I overdo it. So far I just drink a protein shake in the morning or just a coffee or water and then two meals past 2pm to get my calories and protein in. Idk it's so weird. Wondering why the restriction is so extreme in the morning. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Late Period?

I had a period the week before my surgery on 5/6 that was mostly normal, lasted a day longer than usual. I had to go off birth control before surgery and then now post op can’t resume until 7/6. It’s time for a period per my app (what would I ever do without that thing 🤣) and it’s a few days late. Is that fairly common? I’m a revision and after my sleeve I remember having a period very quick. But that was a few years ago.

    Vitamins and supplements

My surgeons office specifically said no on the patches. I wore them for the first 2 weeks. then i started taking capsules. The chewable and the ones that melt in your mouth made me throw up within minutes. Even the capsule ones make me very nauseas but its better than the others.

    Movie Snacks

Yeah, I love popcorn too. I had some at a baseball game. It put me in a major stall because then I wanted some at home every night. At one month I wouldn’t try it because it’s so rough. Just remember it’s a carb, try it later after you’ve been given the all clear. Then test it for yourself and see how you do both digestively and weight wise.

    Prep Op and food

Hi everyone I am one week till my surgery and I am having a hard time with keeping on my liquid diet. My diabetes is giving me problems. I can't seen to keep my level in the right range. I have been drinking Glucerna and Premiere Protein drinks plus Carnation Instant Breakfast drunks. Any suggestions ? Watching the rest of my family eat solid food is really hard , plus I am really scared of the surgery. Any advice from anyone ? Sent from my LM-Q730 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Social eating after gastric sleeve

I had some work things come up early on, when I definitely was not eating regular stuff. In one case, a work lunch was organized at a place that literally had nothing I could eat. That was an extreme situation, to be sure, but I found an appetizer that would probably work, in case I couldn't gracefully bow out. No one knew of my surgery, just that I had a surgery, and I explained to my boss that I had food restrictions as I recover. He was cool with that and I was excused from the event. My colleagues all asked why I wasn't joining, and the same answer worked well. I didn't have to over explain and everyone was cool with it. Since I have been on regular foods, it really has not been a problem even in some situations I thought people would notice. Most people are not paying attention to how much you eat. Just put stuff on the plate, and if you don't want it or are full, just stop eating. My first event once on real food again was an Indian wedding. The amounts I had on my plate matched what many of the thinner woman at the table were eating. I've become very good leaving food on the plate and not feeling guilty about it. I also had to cook for Thanksgiving which was about 3 months from surgery and it was totally fine. I was surprised at how much I didn't care that I couldn't eat much. I had tastes of my favorites, like stuffing, and even had pumpkin pie. It all worked out nicely AND I lost weight for once over that holiday! My greatest challenge was just recently, at Orthodox Easter. I have a huge Greek family that eats crazy amount of food. I was convinced someone would notice - nope! I put enough on my plate that I could taste everything I wanted to taste, and no one noticed how much I did or did not eat. I do think smaller gatherings like intimate holidays with people who know you will be tougher. I'd just put more food on my plate, move it around, and not eat it. It seems wasteful, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I

    May Surgery Buddies

I am feeling much better and doing as much walking as I can so I have very little gas pain today. I ended up with an abdominal binder and it helped with the pain so much. I wear it when I go on my longer walks or in the car. I've met my intake goals for the last 3 days in a row. I'm feeling very positive. The most difficult part for me right now is that I am craving meat. I still have a couple weeks to go until I actually get to chew meat but the days are going by more quickly than I thought they would. It helps that I'm napping a lot lol. I hope every one here is well and moving forward

    May 2022 surgery?

Hi. Thank you for responding. I had pain right after surgery but only for the first 3 days and it was tolerable with a muscle relaxer and Tylenol. I didn’t have the burning sensation until this week. It was better today and less intense. Appreciate you and wishing you a healthy recovery!
  10. Yep. I called again and they said they consider soft and mushy the same and pureed/chunky the same. But they also told me to go at the pace my stomach will allow, and at 18 days post op, I can eat literally anything except normal solid foods. Mushy foods, typical soft foods, pureed foods, chunky foods, all of it. Haven't tried any solids yet because I'm not brave enough, but my stomach tolerates all the rest of it fine. Cold, warm, hot, doesn't matter. And I have zero restriction now. None whatsoever. When I try a new food, I get it the first time I eat it. After that, it's gone. I still do my best to eat the smaller portions, and even though my surgeon said to eat a small meal every 3 hours 5x a day, I lowered it to 4 small meals and am going to work on lowering it again to 3 meals per day because I honestly am eating when I'm not hungry when I follow the surgeon's rule. And it seems like that's counter-productive to eat when you aren't hungry. Oh, I get hunger pains, and I can tell the difference between real hunger and head hunger (and fighting head hunger is HARD lol). I never lost the hunger hormone. So I feel like if I eat when I feel real hunger versus every 3 hours when I'm not hungry, that should work out better, right?

    Drinking. Enough water!!

I used to drink a decent amount of water but after the surgery I really can't stand it. Or at least not in large quantities. I was drinking Crystal Light lemonade which was pretty good but still tough to get down a lot of. Then I went on vacation out of state and found this stuff called Milo's Sweet Tea (zero calorie), it tastes amazing and I couldn't get enough of it. Unfortunately when I got home I discovered that they don't sell it near me. So I tried Crystal Light Sweet Tea and I think it tastes even better. I have 2-3 large glasses per day of that and could probably get more down if I wanted, but that plus the protein drink I have every morning gets me to over 64 oz per day.
  12. That's how I was when I first started my 3-weeks I think what it is is that you're not drinking enough or eating enough so your body is not used to it so I say talk to your doctor about it and keep trying to get your liquids in even if it's just tiny sips just keep sipping all day Sent from my Pixel 4a using BariatricPal mobile app

    ENERGY!!!

Anyone else have boundless energy after surgery? I’m a little under a week out and my energy levels are through the roof. I haven’t felt this energized in nearly five years. I have had very little pain or soreness since getting home from the hospital. I feel kind of weird, like maybe my surgeon is a wizard or something?
  14. I just started my program, and I’m on a 3 month schedule. The expectation is - if all goes as planned, I will be scheduled in July or early August. I have started working in small changes to hopefully help make the transitions after surgery easier (and to prove to myself that I can do this). The program nutritionist gave me a book to outline changes I should start incorporating and sent me some recipe suggestions to try. I was told that I’m not required to loose any weight but that I absolutely can not gain any. My personal hope is I will loose some. I’ve already lost about 40 lbs on my own trying to get into the right mind set for this journey … and figure anything I can loose between now and surgery date will be a benefit for recovery and help my over all health.

    Social eating after gastric sleeve

Maybe 9 months out, I felt comfortable eating out socially. Buffets, fast food, wherever. Just keep a laser focus on what will be good for you, take smaller portions, and be prepared to leave some on the plate or take it home. I once took a weekend vacation, ate out (but supplemented with healthy snacks from home), and lost 3 pounds. There will definitely be options!

    6 weeks post op depressed

I agree with what everyone said above. I’m on week 5 after surgery and my mood changes daily. Yesterday I was in the “angry” stage and just frustrated with everything. Sometimes I’m just zombie brain and stare out the window thinking about food. I’m reading a book that is a great boost for my moodiness and gets me out of my head. It’s called UNTAMED by Glennon Doyle. It’s full of short stories about being a woman, woman empowerment, finding happiness, overcoming shame and guilt, etc. I find that reading really helps and is a nice distraction from the negative thoughts that overwhelm me at times.

    Social eating after gastric sleeve

I have eaten out twice now and both times with someone who knows I have had the surgery. The first time I dumped after a few hours and was unwell for a few day. I think my choice was greasy, I forgot to ask for dry cooking. The second time I couldn't have a pre look at the online menu and chose just a prawn starter. The prawns were really tough and I left it and sat chatting to my friends. I am going on Holiday in 4 weeks and really do not know what to tell the people that I am with. I have never told them. My micro portions will be noticed. They know me very well. I imagine I will have to say what's happened. I am struggling to eat more than 2 ounces of protein and no veg. Any advice welcome

    Vaping pre op

I was a long term smoker, I continuously stopped and started smoking so many times. I only managed it in the end by being in a hospital bed for 11 weeks. I never had chance to smoke. I figured that the nicotine was now out of my system. That was 12 years ago and I have never wanted to smoke again. I would never have stopped otherwise. My point is you will not get any judging from me. BUT - You need to stop now if you want this surgery. I believe some hospitals will not do the surgery if they detect it. You need to be as fit as you can for any surgery, Life is very unfair, just when you need it most your go to helpers are taken away from you. It will be a battle of wills for you. I hope you win. Good luck

    September Surgery Buddies!!

I had to delete nuts from my diet, too many calories and not enough satiety. I do find the temptation to snack happening so I'm trying to be vigilant about that. Fifteen pounds to go, eight months and a week out from surgery.

    Pain upper abdomen

You might try some simethicone. The trade name is Gas-X. That's why the surgeon's medical assistant recommended to me 3 weeks or so of my gastric bypass. She said the pain was probably retained gas. You can buy Gas-X anywhere. There are less expensive generic brands, too.

    June 2022 surgery buddies

June 6th! I started the liquid diet on May 16th. It’s a 3 week liquid diet, super strict one too compared to some I’ve seen. I’m hanging in there though! We can do this!

    Blah...my first stall...

Day 15 post op. I’m stalling at the moment as well. It’s like it’s a calendar event on my phone or something 🤣 as much as I read about it I’m still irritated hah. No gain, but no loss. Just have to ride it out!
  25. Strange, I’ve been having the same issue lately. Blood work good, surgery in 2020. At first it was just dizziness when standing, but took my first hard fall earlier this week.
