How long have you been obese?

Well that's a hard one I never really looked at myself hard enough when I was a kid but I think I started to get cuddly from about 12; got bigger through high school but don't think I actually hit OBESE until I was at least 21? So I guess to be frank my weight issues have been around 20 years, it's weird because if I look at 'elementary photos up to 10 I was a skinny little runt but then around the time of puberty it all went down hill year by year but yeah obesity probably from adulthood until now I'll be 35 this year when I get my RNY BYPASS. I did have one year "2012" I managed to get down to 200 lbs and life was great, had more female attention in a few months than I ever had in my life prior but life happens and put most of my weight back on a few years later and now I'm at 317; finally I'm back mentally in a good spot and really committed to getting surgery this year and starting a new life!!

    February 2019 Sleevers?

I had my surgery on Feb 6th and I lost 10 lbs the first week on the clear liquid diet, but now that I'm on a full liquid diet, the weight loss has slowed slightly -- I'm still losing but at a much slower daily rate. Has this happened with anyone else? I also have a hard time drinking water still -- it makes me nauseous. I've been drinking a lot of other liquids but I find it impossible to hit that 3 liter daily liquid goal without being able to drink much water. Other than that, I physically feel totally normal, hope you all are recovering well also!
  3. I'm curious if anybody knows first hand? I have a kidney condition I've had all my life. I take serious meds span K potassium 600mg X 15/day Sodium bicarbonate 840mg X 10/day If I miss my meds for even a week my potassium levels plummets and I can be hospitalized. My condition is rare it's hard to explain but that's what I know. I'm not sure if there will be any issues with a RNY BYPASS since we're told to take vitamins and supplements anyway and mine are just real strong script only!! I know I'll have to ask surgeon when time comes in just curious if anybody had any issues before???
  4. Excited for a new me

Kitty cats! Pets are the best support.

I have Ceilidh who will be 12 this summer. She's a roly poly cat and thinks she needs to be shaped like a football. Then there's Haggis who is feisty and adventurous. She'll be 11. Then there are my two puppy loves, Peaches (10) and Turtle (3). All of them were rescues and are my reason for getting up in the morning.

    I just can't get warm!

No you're just seasoned that's all Kathy 😘 I'm embarrassed to say that I have been using a space heater here in Florida when the weather gets below 60 degrees. It's crazy to think January 2018 before surgery I was in Tahoe on vacation, it was 19 degrees and I slept with the sliding glass door cracked LOL 360 turnaround 🙃
  7. My insurance changed! I started my journey November 2018, with a consult with my (then) surgeon at Riverside Medical Clinic. With my (then) insurance, Anthem Blue Cross ***, I only needed 3 month (12 continuous classes) supervised nutrition/weight classes. As of now, I finished 10 out of my 12 classes. Last week I found out my insurance changed to Anthem BC PPO and they now require me to go to a Dignity Health Facility to be covered 100%. Well okay... I call my nearest Dignity Health bariatric surgery center to find out more. I was told at Western Bariatric (St. Bernadine -- San Bernardino, CA) that I needed 6 months of classes and basically restart my journey. I started to bawl my eyes out! I'm 25 (November birthday) and I'm getting real close to end of my insurance coverage under my parents. When I had started my journey, I was hoping to have my surgery by March or April. So, I'm worried about having my surgery before my cut off. Anyway, I sucked it up and started making calls. I attended their Seminar, where we filled out new patient packets and made copies of our insurances. The next step is to wait for a call to schedule my consult with their surgeon. I was told that the consult would count as 1 of the 6 months of weight classes. Does anyone believe they will accept my 3 months of classes Ive already taken? (and maybe only need 3 more months to meet the 6mo requirement?) Will they consider the original surgeon consult from November 2018 too (as part of the 6 months wight management?) I'm honestly hoping that Western Bariatric will consider my start (Nov.) to my current (Feb.) for a total of 4 out of the 6 required months. I didnt want to be set further back, but ill take whatever they'll take and Im hoping for the best! Can anyone can give me some insight? Similar situations? Anyone go to Western Bariatric? I'm really anxious.

    Insecure

Mine was really worried about it but knew what bad shape I was in and eventually recognized that something drastic needed to happen. After seeing me lose almost 80 lbs in the last 9 months and resolve all of my comorbidities (severe lower back pain, severe asthma/COPD) now that I am not carrying around the equivalent of a 10 year old on my back he tells me often how glad he is that I went through with it. Only my husband, a few family members and a few close friends knew about the surgery at the time but as the weight loss has become noticeable I am pretty open about it with people I trust. It takes courage and determination to have the surgery and work the program.

    Stress and poor food choices

Wow! What a crapton of stress and worry! I get it! Life definitely happens while we're trying to improve ourselves!! I think the idea of having low carb/low fat/healthier options on hand will be very helpful. I also think it's important to get up each day (only take that 1 day) and make a 1-10 check list of plans. Scratch them off as you complete them. Make doing self-care part of that plan. Cuz if you're well, the kids will be healthier. Try making yourself a deal for 1 day only. Make a deal not to have ANYTHING sweet all day (whether or not that is sugar or sugar subs). And include making it a no crap day--so no chips crackers etc. If you need to clean all the crap out of the pantry, frig and freezer! The kids don't need the crap either! Lock it in the trunk of your car if you must! Then any time you're hungry, drink a glass of water as quickly as you can. Then wait 20 minutes--get busy with something else. If at the end of 20 minutes you are still hungry and it's not time for your meal, then have a small protein and veggie based 100cal snack. Follow your rules of eating/drinking. If it is time to eat, then have your meal that you've planned. The rule is that if you're hungry, you eat protein/veg at 100cals per pop. No sweet. I use things like boiled eggs, al dente steamed broccoli, raw veg like leafy greens, rbp, carrots, celery, etc. If I'm hungry enough to eat, then I will eat a boiled egg and some veg! Hard to binge when you're full of boiled egg and veg! Then once you complete the day...do it again tomorrow. Just only commit for 1 day. If you screw up, then continue moving forward taking the next best bite. Don't throw the day away cuz of a slip or an isolated meal or snack. Put the snack in the trash, get the crap out of the house...etc. You can do this. It IS worth it! You are worth it. Your family is worth it. Find a counselor!!! Talk to your doc and RD!!!! Get them to help. It is in their best interest to help you through this rough patch, cuz you are part of their outcomes of surgery. They want to have good stats.

    Slow WL

I’m not seeing the numbers drop like I had hoped either. My surgeon is fantastic and when I saw him one week post op (surgery was 1/21) I asked if I was on track. He said he didn’t care what my weight was that day. He cares what it is in 10 years. (I really love my surgeon and team). Now I’ve hit I guess what everyone calls the 3 week stall. BUT as a was tracking my food this morning I checked my graph for weight. From my highest a few years ago I’m down over 30 lbs. That encouraged me. Slow and steady wins the race. But in my heart of hearts I SO WANT to see that scale move dag nabbit!!

Calorie goal for first 2 weeks?

I was sleeved on 02/01. My dr told me not to worry about calorie intake. Just focus on getting the water intake and try to hit the protein goal. They were more focused on me not becoming dehydrated. I'm up to 40-60 oz of water and I'm almost to my protein goal. I also have sf popsicle, sf jello, strained soup with added protein powder. Good Luck!!!!!!
  12. My last appointment was with the psych doctor on 2/6/19... It’s officially been a week since that appointment.. Last step I was advised was submitting to the insurance company for approval. I called the office that Friday & this Monday 2/11/19 to see if things were submitted yet but was told they were still waiting on the paperwork from the psychiatrist. I can’t lie I’m already going crazy wanting to see if things have even been submitted yet.. let alone approved.. Im telling myself to calm down & wait.. I’m trying to at the least give it 2 weeks but geeeezzeee Why does the waiting seem so long? I just want to know the verdict but then idk how I’m gonna take a denial.. I’m trying to stay positive and so far so good it’s just the waiting is so frustrating.. I’m nervous, excited and scared all at once.. Thoughts of getting that call for approval, setting the surgery date, starting my pre op diet, to the losers bench, to baggy work pants, to smiling again, to onederland... oh my.. lol But it’s still just the beginning.. Glad I’ve made it this far & praying it’s not all for nothing.. The waiting game seems so long..

Best wishes to all

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Oh I have zero issues with drinking or nausea. I’m just someone who has always been chronically dehydrated. I just don’t drink like I should. I am working on it. I need about 10 more ounces today to make my goal.

    Smooth Sailing for Anyone?

I was sleeved 10/15/18 and it's been very smooth. I was working from home at my desk job after a week and back in my office after 2 weeks. My sleeve was a single incision (through my belly button). My surgeon told me they usually only recommend that if your BMI is 35 or less but mine was 40. I have degenerative disc disorder too and my back has been better since losing 45 lbs. I think it has gone smoothly because my program was awesome and I followed almost everything they told me to do. I take all my vitamins, took Ursodiol to prevent gallstones (which you don't have to worry about) and took Omeprazole to prevent GERD. I have thrown up 3x but each time it was from eating too fast (I thought there was always room for Jello!) and really my fault. I have had zero hours of regret.
  17. You made me laugh!!. There is no need to be embarrassed, a picture is all it takes at times. The good news is that you are on your way to a healthier you and thanks for sharing. For me I was tired of losing and gaining weight and my blood pressure keep getting out of control with the more weight I gain. I've always been able to control my weight until I had my daughter 9 years ago, no matter how many gym and personal trainer I go to the weight wont shake. I spoke to a couple of people who had WLS and they couldn't be happier. I discussed it with my older boys and they are happy with my choice. Lastly I missed my size 10 clothes. I am looking forward to a nice summer where my daughter and I can do a lot of outdoor activities.
  18. I know the number one reason for wanting WLS should be to be healthier but was there ever a pivotal moment for you that wasn’t health related? We were on vacation in Mexico this past January and we went on an excursion that was to be a horse back ride up a mountain to a waterfall. When we got to the point of getting our horses assigned the handler looked me up and down and walked over and brought back a mule, as in pack mule. I looked around and watched and everyone was assigned beautiful horses except for myself and one other heavier man who also got a mule. It was obvious why we were assigned the mules. As I’m typing this it’s sounds so shallow and vane, but it really was embarrassing for me. Not to mention when the company sent us the photos and here I am almost dwarfing the poor animal sitting on it. It’s a little bit funny for me now but at the moment it wasn’t. Just wondering if anyone else felt like sharing. Maybe it was a moment, photo or a comment from someone that made you say “I’ve had it”. Imnotpicky Surgery date: 3/1/19 for GS 5’4” 210lbs
  19. I had my surgery on 2/7/19. I am currently still on clear liquid diet. I set an alarm on my phone, that will repeat every 15 minutes continuously as long as I hit snooze and not dismiss. As for the amount, I bought some medicines cups that are 1 ounce (30ml) and every 15 minutes when my phone alarmed I would drink one. That way I would be getting my 4 oz in an hour. Seems I always push the envelope, but......

And in keeping with my BAD behavior, I am not at 10 weeks yet, but I just ate 2 small pieces of raw cauliflower! I almost cried it was soo good and crunchy!!! I'll just be here waiting to explode..... 😎
  21. I had the gastric sleeve surgery 15 months ago I’ve lost 116 lbs and I’m 20 lbs from my goal weight! Yaasss!!! I have not had a period for almost 10 years since of my weight and I’ve been on birth control. Starting a few months ago I had some spotting and I went for a check up where I was told that my body and hormones are just regulating that was normal. I was also told that my birth control should work the same and that once I decide to remove my arm implant it will take a while for my body to ovulate regularly so it may take awhile to get pregnant. (Totally cool with all that!) 2 months later I feel like I’m having weird symptoms I’m extremely tired I haven’t had any spotting or period and I’m extremely hungry even tho I eat my 3 meals I take my vitamins I try my hardest to drink my water. My boyfriend thought maybe I should take a pregnancy test since my body is still so crazy. But to me none of these seem like pregnancy symptoms. Are symptoms strange for anyone after WLS?

    5 days post-op exercise

Awesome job! Was sleeved on 2-6 and yesterday I finally hit 10k steps for a single day. My job is 100% on my feet and I’ve gotta be ready for those 10-12 hour shifts. Besides, the water goes down much easier with walking. I can set my treadmill for a 2.5 mile walk and drink an entire 20oz water in that hour
  23. I know a lot of people have questions about the psych eval, so I just wanted to share my experience. My doctor gave me the option of going through BariatricPsychEvaluations.com (Advantage Point Behavioral), so I was able to do my eval via video conference. The appointment was scheduled to be an hour, but it only took 10 minutes (can't believe I paid $200 for that, but that's another story). She asked about my eating habits, medications, education and career, what led to me gaining weight, mental health history, previous traumatic experiences, and my support system (family, friends). I know everyone's psych eval is different, but mine was super quick and easy!
