I need to give a little back story here. My husband is 26 (will be 27 on Sunday), he's a great looking, attractive, naturally fit/lean guy. He's 6'0" and 165lbs dripping wet. He is currently deployed to Afghanistan and will be returning late September/early October (4 months after my post op revision). Ever since I told him I was moving forward with the revision surgery, his mentality has changed. He's working out, weightlifting to what I consider an extreme. He's bragged that he's "getting bigger" and I will be able to see a difference. I asked him "why are you working out?" He brushed it off that he was was just "passing the time". Now today, he has ordered a whey Protein supplement online from a bodybuilding website. He overpaid for what he is getting, and the email I sent, once the email confirmation came through, let him know that he overpaid for something I could of gotten here and shipped to him for less. I could care less about the money, or that he had ordered a supplement, just the fact that I asked him about that a couple weeks ago, he said he had no desire to "bulk up". My question is: Have any of ya'll experienced this with your husband/significant other? I almost feel like he is threatened by the fact that I will be losing weight. Kind of like he wants or feels the need to 'one up' me. We've never had jealousy/insecurity issues in our relationship/marriage. We've dealt with long distance relationship for over half of 3 years together. This is our 1st deployment as a married couple, I'm just really perplexed by all of this. He isn't the work out type. He hates working out when he is here. He has always loved me for me regardless of my pant size. He was and still is extremely supportive of my WLS decisions. He has mentioned a few times about me changing, but after the initial surgery back in October all of that was never mentioned again. We did talk about me sending him progress pictures. He decided that he wanted it to be a surprise. . . I just need to know if this is normal. I kind of feel like he is threatened by the thought of me losing weight. He knows that I get hit on now as a "hot fat chick". I feel like he is doubting me, or my fidelity, and he wants to make sure when he comes home that I am going to still want him, or even worse that he is the "better looking half". I may be overthinking all of this, but I can't shake this feeling that something other than "passing the time" is the driving force behind his 5-6 day a week working out/weightlifting. Thanks for any input. I appreciate it. . .

So I got to meet my new surgeon yesterday. My employment has a special clause that says "all Bariatric surgeries will be done at..." So even though I was in a WONDERFUL program, if I want to be revised, I must switch. Not very happy about that since the follow up and guidance is really poor with my hospital vs the competitors hospital (btw, they carry the blue center of distinction from bcbs). Anyway, I refuse to stop defeated so forward we go. Plus the best news ever is that after surgery I can return to my program. I'm feeling special!! Fast forward, I met her and she is nice and supportive of my revision. I was worried that she would see my continued weight loss as a cure and the band would not need to be removed despite my severe reflux, slight dilatation, and now slipping (which is what I thought happened but could never prove!) and she doesn't want to wait for surgery. So EGD is scheduled and we meet again may 17th to see what insurance says (which I hope isn't a problem, I have looked at policy and it should go through but never know with them!) Then I get my date! It's been a long road but the light at the end is getting brighter!!! Just wanted to share with my friends here.

Good luck! I hope everything goes through your insurance without a glitch. I just had my revision on 4/17 from lap band to RNY luckily without any real glitches. Your on your way now... Yay!

2nd port revision done today
Maddysgram replied to Bigboyjess's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Sorry to hear that you had to have a second revision. I hope this mesh thing does the trick. I had to have a revision 3mths out, like you, it had flipped. My Dr also said it was very rare. I was only his second patient out of hundreds, this had happened to. He also said mine was b/c the scar tissue had not had enough time to develop and help hold it in place. I certainly hope that same scar tissue doesn't cause it to flip again.lol I would definitely have a second revision. Good luck and thank you for sharing your experience. -

I'm a bit confused. Did you have revision, sleeve to bypass? You're showing marked as a sleeve patient and I recall you saying in another post a few days ago that you don't take vitamins, you just rely on a healthy diet to get your vitamins, which isn't recommended for bypassers. So the two posts are sort of contradictory, junk food vs healthy diet for vitamins. And also sleeve on your profile and now you're saying you got bypass two years ago. Can you clarify the details for us please? Thanks! -
My doctor told me to plan on 2 nights because mine was revision surgery but I went home the next day because I felt fine

Last minute help needed!
tf26 replied to Girliesmoml2003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had Bypass surgury in 1992 and am now scheduled for lap band surgury on 7/21. With bypass or stomach stappling your stomach does expand. Although I have not gained all of my weight back, I have gained about 50% and not too hopefull for a revision surgury. I have chosen lapband as it is minimally invasive. Both surguries change your entire life immensely. You need to be ready for the drastic change in your eating and social lifestyle. Good Luck!! -

Self Pay and Insurance notification????
michele035 posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi hoping someone where can help. I just had my final meeting with my doctor and scheduled my revision RNY to DS. 2 years ago my insurance denied my revision so I am 100% self pay. I got all my payment information today and the woman at the doctor's office told me she would need to "run the insurance info through" for the hospital just so they have the denial info? huh? the LAST thing I want is for my insurance company to have any info on this surgery. I majorly understand the risks of any complications in the hospital and being responsible for the costs personally since I am paying for the initial surgery. I understand that risk and am willing to take it. I also understand that if I go home a few days or weeks later sometype of complication happens, that I should be able to run that through insurance and have it be covered (different medical coding). So with all this being said the LAST thing I want is for the insurance company to have any inkling of this surgery Has anyone ever had this experience? I am very concerned now that she said that this morning and I cannot think of anything else...any insight would be appreciated. -

The last few weeks pre surgery last forever
SorryNameTaken replied to Emily Jane's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm the opposite. It feels like I have hit the ground running and it is coming so stinking fast. I suspect the week of surgery will go really slow, but then again I have a ton of appointments that week, so it may go just as fast. @april042019 I'm afraid to ask about the catheter!! It completely freaks me out too. I'm a revision, so my surgery is going to be a bit longer than standard, so I'm just so sure they will say yes and I just don't think I want to know! 🤣 I haven't even met my surgeon because my original surgeon was booked out way into November and my insurance won't cover surgery starting November 1, so I had to switch to the other doctor in the practice. So naturally, most of my questions are about him or things about my pre-op testing. My x-ray showed I have a kidney stone just hanging around and no one told me, so I'd like to ask about that. My new doctor does robotic surgeries, so I want to know if mine is going to be robotic. And of course the important questions like, "Can I wear toenail polish?" I also want to know if I'll have an incision in my bellybutton, I can't stand the thought of that, it weirds me out so much. Whenever anything pops in my mind, I just write it down to take with me. Just do that and you'll surely have a good list of things to ask! -
Revision not enough weight loss.
DMWLS replied to Laura Deleon Reyes's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am new here as well and I am considering revising to the bypass from having the sleeve last year in May. I have vertigo and very much confined to my bed accept for when I am working, which is quite difficult. However, I have been stalled for quite some time and have picked back up 30 of the pounds I lost. I started at 326 and the scales 279 now, I am seriously considering the bypass. Some days I can eat more than I should and other days I don't eat nothing.I do a lot of bored snacking sine I work from home. I wold love to follow your journey and perhaps be each others support. -
I was wondering if any of you had your revision surgery in Tijuana, Mexico. I am considering going there since my insurance company won't cover my band removal and the gastric sleeve surgery and I cannot afford the self pay option.

Hello. I’m new to this forum. Got a lapband in 2011. Overall it’s been successful. Starting weight was 255, I now weigh 198. My weight is stable. But…. I am now having a large amount of reflux and nighttime coughing. I’m worried about my esophagus and I am starting to consider revision surgery. But… my BMI is now 33. Which is great, except I’m discovering that is too low to qualify for revision surgery through insurance. But if I get the lapband taken out without any other help, the weight will not stay off. And I’d much prefer to just have one surgery instead of two. I’m only about 6 lbs under my insurance’s minimum BMI of 35. What do people do in this case? Wear ankle weights to the doctor? Just try to gain the 6lbs through milkshakes? Any advice appreciated.

Hi everyone: Im new to this site. I had lap band surgury 2/14/2011 and have had nothing but problems. First 6 months lost a good amount of weight, but I was also on phentermine as well. I throw up all the time, always hungry, and can't seem to find my green zone. Im thinking of having a revision to the sleeve, but not sure if the sleeve will be all that great either. I also think I'm 50% to blame since I dont exercise anymore nor do I eat all my Protein. I just can't stand the throwing up or hunger pain when I do eat right. I could really use some advice. Is the sleeve a better choice than the band?

I had major complications in the past 8 months, port revision, total unfill and then slippage and taken out July 8. How long does it take for my stomach to return to normal? I am afraid to eat since I have been barfing for 8 months. I lost 30 lbs and want to keep it off. May look into weight watchers.

Don't be alone. There are hundreds of us on here who have been where you are. I am not a band to sleeve revision, but I know what it's like to have no familial support. It sucks. But we're all here to have a natter with if you're feeling crappy or despondent. You never know, we may even be able to raise a smile or three. I know it's not nice to feel like an island - but you're not an island. You have us mad lot backing you up. Whether you like it or not x -
@@lovemyself Good luck! Glad you researched and came to a decision. I just had the sleeve (revision from band) on 5-25 and feel good. I'm very glad that I took action. Keep in touch.

I agree with what other folks have said. I also would say, as someone who is revising from the lapband, that you should not base your decisions on that. There are lots of band complications and the sleeve seems to be much better technically and far more effective.

In one week, I'm having surgery. I have a sleeve, currently, and need to treat a rare condition called achalasia. So, to reduce complications from a myotomy, I am revising my sleeve to a modified gastric bypass. I'm getting a second chance at losing all the weight that I needed to lose from my sleeve. I was originally over 460 lbs (not by much, but that's as high as my doctors scale went at the time). I had my sleeve, lost about 150lbs and then got pregnant. I gained back, in total, about 70lbs in a year and a half of being pregnant and post partum. Then I got back on track. I was heading in the right direction until this achalasia started about a year ago. The condition has made it very difficult for me to eat, so in the past year since being sick, I've lost another 40ish lbs... so little because about the only thing I CAN consume comfortably are carbs. (Which I really don't appreciate at all post op WLS!) Currently, I'm about 320. I'm really trying to be optimistic about losing weight and fixing my issues with eating due to the medical condition - but being a previous WLS patient and knowing the realities of post op life, I'm having a hard time NOT focusing on how loose my skin will be, what I'll look like, how I'll afford clothes - something that didn't consume me so much before because I was single and childless and made decent money... but now I'm a mom, I have an SO (and he assures me that he loves me no matter what my body looks like), money is tight... it's all just so stressful. I have body issues to work on and don't know how to change my mindset of being so critical of myself. That's definitely part of it. But there is a part of me that was okay with not "being skinny". I lost enough weight to feel better about myself, look better, but still look like ME. I need to appreciate the change, I suppose. I just feel like I can't talk about all these things to anyone in my real life. They just don't understand. They can't relate! Can anyone here relate? How do you deal with your unshare-able thoughts?

The sleeve is a thousand times easier than the band. You know, the first time I ever ate solids with a sleeve I was shocked, I thought, "DAMN! So this is what restriction feels like!" No barfing, stoma spewing, gagging, getting stuck, sliming, foaming, none of it. I'm noticing on the boards that band to sleeve folks don't have much of a learning curve. Newbies are shocked that I've had food issues and I realized it is because I already did the learning curve with the band. Get a sleeve, it's so much easier. Does your insurance cover revisions? If so, really document all the issues you have had. Take time to think through esophageal problems. Do you have any? Banding is pretty rough on your esophagus, I'm still having problems but without the band it is getting better. Esophageal problems would be a good reason for ins to pay for a revision if WLS is covered. __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com

Wow, except for the slip your story sounds just like mine. I was banded 12/06, never tolerated fills, had so many fills and unfills I knew the radiology staff well. ;o) Had my band removed in June, revised to a sleeve at the same time and I'm here to tell you that the sleeve is FANTASTIC! OMG I love the sleeve! MUCH easier than banding! __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com

What to expect?!?!?!
NurseShay replied to bellaisgreat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you're going directly through your surgeon there's usually less pre-op testing done than what you may have done trying to qualify for insurance or approval or getting your PCP referal. I am also self pay and the process for me was 2 weeks from initial seminar/consultation to surgery. At the pre-op appt I had my blood drawn, vitals taken, weighed & measured, nutritionist & psych eval & finally a talk with the surgeon. When all was done that same day I started the pre op liquid diet & showed proof of funds for payment. Much simpler than the insurance process! (Btw see if you are getting the best package for your $! Having your fee also give you a year of follow up visits & fills. And I hear some practices even have revision insurance if god forbid there was any complications!) Best of luck!
