Newbie question
ronniethegreat replied to Italian Girl1989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should get GENEPRO, it's unflavored protein, 30g per 1 tbsp, mixes instantly, can buy on Amazon and you can just add to skim milk, tea, Water, or something else. (I do almond milk). I was doing protein shakes the first few weeks and couldn't take it anymore. Also, my pre-op diet was 7 days, they said it was because I was on the smaller side and didn't need me to really lose that much weight. Everyone is different Also, a lot of people do 6 months because it's required by their insurance, not because of the surgeon's decision Sent from my LGLS990 using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone 21 and doing this
Shell425 replied to TheNewSamanthaSmiles17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ur moms got a good name! Lol well before surgery I bought some GENEPRO Protein powder (it's best mixed with hot tea or coffee) and Protein shakes to try and boost my protein intake, I don't think it actually helped with the surgery, but it helped get me used to all the not so wonderfully tasting protein supplements I got to look forward to post surgery. I feel great that I had the surgery! Of course the first 12-24 hours are the absolute worse, but once you get past that, the pain subsides and Ull be up and walking pretty soon. I know not all drs put in drains, but if u end up getting one, just know that if your in pain after the first day, it's most likely cause by that. Or gas. Ull hear it all over this forum, but it's for a reason! after surgery, walk walk walk!! It's the only thing that will relieve gas pain! I'm still on the full liquid stage right now so I can't really share anything I've enjoyed since surgery except sugar free Jello. Lol if ur a reader, bring a book. I brought my cell, books, and laptop to the hospital with me, I don't think I even took my laptop out of my bag the whole time I was there (which was only 3 days, 2 nights) I slept a lot of the time or I was roaming the hall. Since my brother was there with me I walked to his room a lot and we just say and talked about how weird we felt, or where we were having pain, etc. we were still in shock that either if us actually went thru with it so there was a lot to talk about. good luck to you! -
Protein powder question
LA_lady replied to Clarevoyant's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use GENEPRO and you have to put it in after you heat. Once I tried putting it my really hot broth and it doesn't break down. The result was drinking grainy broth which was quite nasty. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Fairlife milk has 50% more Protein than normal milk. Try sugar free Jello pudding, with unflavored protein mix. It's awesome. Make sure to use a high quality protein mix like GENEPRO. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Hi, I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time. I know this will sound so mechanical but it will get better. First, call your Dr for something to help with your nausea. There is no reason to feel so bad. I use a nonflavored Protein Drink called GENEPRO. I add it to my espresso every day. You need to get your nausea under control. Focus on getting your fluids in and push that protein hard. It doesn't take long for us to dehydrate. Are you sick before or after you eat or drink? Check with your Dr. You could have a Stricture. ( kind of like scar tissue) not to worry if it is there is an easy fix. They do an Endoscope and use a balloon to dilate your Stoma. Not trying to make problems where there isn't one but explore all of your options. Take care and keep us posted on how you are doing. BTW I also have Fibromylgia and my surgery has actually helped me some. So that might be something that helps you too. -
First off I will contact my doctor. However I want to hear from you guys on this and how you dealt with it. I was able to eat meat, like steaks chicken, lean pork, ground meats up until about week ago. I'm not sure why but now animal Based Proteins hurt or sit like a rock in my stomach. Its,taking an hour or more for that heaviness pain to go away. I hate that feeling. I am chewing throughly, taking my time eating, serving the proper portion for this stage of my diet. I've even just ate a couple of bites and still had the feeling. I've been trying to eat plant based proteins and or depend on my genepro. Since I don't really have an experience on eating a vegetarian style, I'm struggling. I Pintrest recipes and read up on it however I worry if I am going to eat too many carbs or not get enough protien . My team pushes eating good proteins pretty hard. I do understand why. I just don't get how I can go from eating and tolerating to not being able to. I was sleeved 9/19/16. No real issues other than the normal bitching and moaning newly sleeved folks grapple with. I appreciate your input. Thanks

No energy, five days out
MissKay replied to skinnyjeansatlast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My energy was very, very low for the first 2 weeks post-op. I didn't start drinking anything with Protein powder until after 2 weeks out. I couldn't stand any of the shakes anymore after the pre-op liquid diet, I burned myself out on them and nearly gagged every time so I just had to stay away. Now I take about 6oz of a juice (no HFCS juice) and mix a scoop of GENEPRO (30mg protein) and drink that on the days I get lower protein intake. I can definitely tell the difference on the days I get my protein levels up versus the ones that I get very little in. It's a balancing act and it takes time to master it. I wouldn't worry about exercise or walking ability right now. I don't think I gained the desire for any of that until I was on pureed foods because then I was getting actual sustenance to energize me. -
My sleeve surgery is March 28. I know I will have to supplement with protein powder, I have already purchased genepro powder. How have you fellow vegetarians gotten all your protein? Especially when at liquid & mushy stage? Is it OK if almost all my protein comes from supplement? I would Iike to know what all of you are eating...

Sip walk bored now itchy
lexiemia replied to need change's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know the feeling. I am 11 days out now and the incisions are starting to itch. I saw my surgeon today. He says I need to take in more fluid. I already knew that. I also need to up my protein. I am thinking about trying Genepro unflavored powder. I am hoping if I get enough protein it will help with the weight loss. Started multivitamin and b12 today. I hope that helps with energy levels. -
Spitfireash I made broth and put mushrooms and green onion in it just to give myself something to chew on. The mushrooms and green onion has very little to no calories....even my son snd hubby loved it. I lost 11 lbs in 10 days before surgery. I also purchased Genepro protein and put it in everything!! My soup, water bottle, and even the jello I made. That seriously helps with hunger! Drank about 3-4 protein shakes a day so with all the protein I never felt hungry although I’m not going to lie, the first week was tough just because my brain wanted to eat although I wasn’t hungry. Let me know if you have additional questions. Im two days post-op and this is the worst I’ve felt so far. Terrible headache (yes I’m getting all my water in and then some)....I hope it gets better throughout this week.

That's what the Genepro is. It's supposedly one of the least with taste, and it seemed like that to me beforehand, but now...ewwwww. It's amazing how much my tastebuds have changed since surgery (which is probably a good thing in the long run LOL).

I am on day 4 of puree. The first 3 days i seriously felt like i was over stuffing myself. Today i cut it back to 2 2ounce meals and broke them both into 2.. so 4 times.. but i did it during the day only and am finished.. Only i also added genepro (30g) of protein to the food.. half scoop in each.. I also had my protein shake at some point. I may move the shake to lunch, have a scrambled egg for breakfast and leave the second course of protein for dinner. I had to try something different because eating 2 ounces at once.. was way too much and i was getting the pressure in the chest.

Starting Pre-Op Diet In 12 Days and Cannot Stand Sweet Things
Sassy Sleeve replied to NinjaPingu's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have Unjury chicken flavor. I also use Genepro (unflavored) and I have mixed that with beef consume. You can't heat it to hot, but using tempering it gets hot enough. I am on day two of 10 of the pre-op diet, and so far it has not been as bad as I expected. Hoping that continues! [emoji6] Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
What does your typical day look like?
Bryn910 replied to fluffyandiknowit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 1 month out revision from sleeve to bypass. This is my day: -wake up around 6am, take my gallbladder, acid reducer, vitamin d, biotin, calcium, multi vitamin & b12 pills. I take them with water & drink about 6 ounces of water. -while I get ready for work, I begin drinking my protein drink so the pills can settle easy. I either drink an 11 ounce protein drink or a 16.9 ounce; I usually and one scoop of genepro to either one to add to my protein. I finish this on my way to work & a bit at work which leaves me at about 50g of protein that i drank and about 17-22 ounces of fluid drank (depending on which drink). I finish about 8:30 am -I immediately start drinking my water out of my hydroflask water bottle which is 20 ounces. I finish this about 11:30 am which leaves me at about 37-42 ounces of water drank. -I then wait my 20 minutes to eat and I eat around 12 noon. For lunch I have about 2 ounces of my soft foods (fish, eggs or soft cheese). Takes me about 30-35 minutes to eat this. The protein varies depending on what I eat so I will guesstimate about 5-8g protein for lunch. This leaves me with consuming about 58g of protein. I then wait 40 minutes to drink again. -so around 1:40pm I drink 16.9 ounces of water and finish it by the end of my workday at around 3:30. This leaves me at about 53-58 ounces of fluid/water. -At 3:30 I begin to drink a Premier protein clear mixed with a crystal light lemonade for the ride home and will finish about 5:30 at home. When I get home I finish the remainder of my meds/vitamins which are multivitamin, iron & calcium, anti acid & galladder. This leaves me at about 69-74 ounces of fluid & 78g of protein. I then begin my 20 minute wait if eating. -so around 6pm I eat 2 ounces of soft food again which is about 4-6g of protein so I will finish my protein for the day at about 84 g of protein. I will wait 40 minutes again to drink water at around 7-7:15pm. - I will continue to drink water all evening until bedtime which is 10-10:30pm. By then I will consume approximately 20 more ounces of fluid which leaves me at 94 ounces of fluid. i don’t really count calories but looking back on MyFitnessPal it’s about 430 calories for the day 94 ounces of fluid 84 grams of protein 430 calories -
Unjury & Opurity - Where to Buy?
wannaBthinsoon replied to gin765's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The website is best. Just a tip though, the unflavored isn't unflavored at all. Try GENEPRO unflavored. I've told so many people about it, there will probably be a shortage! lol -
I use genepro

Unflavored Protein Powder and flavored clear protein drink
Clementine Sky replied to Red23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If there's a Sprouts near you they have an unflavored whey isolate Protein powder that dissolves very well into both hot and cold liquids, and is odorless and tasteless. The drawback is that it doesn't have as much protein as other powders do, with just 9 grams. It only has 40 calories, zero fat, and zero carbs. The perk of it is that you can buy it by the weight and try it out before deciding to make a larger purchase. I started off with a bag that just cost $2.85. I've also liked GENEPRO. I'm a bit dubious about the claims, but I will say that I only had positive experiences with the product. It mixed into everything smoothly, and was undetectable. I don't know if it was a matter of causation or correlation but my hair loss really slowed down and I felt more energetic while using it. I just added it to my morning coffee (which my doctor approves of; I know some surgeons are against caffeine) rather than using it as a meal substitute, though. With both of the unflavored powders you can add them to something like Crystal Light. Gatorade Light is relatively low in calories and carbs and Protein Powder could be mixed into it, though I would only have that as a post-workout drink or something rather than a staple drink. I really liked the fruit flavored Isopure drinks before surgery, but was repulsed by them afterwards. Anything overly sweet wasn't palatable to me until about 5 months post surgery. They did remind me of Gatorade. I didn't care for Isopure or Unjury's unflavored protein powders, but many do like them. Syntrax has a lot of fruit-flavored protein powders. Vitamin Shoppe often has them available in sample packs, so you can try them out before committing to one of the big, pantry-space hogging containers. http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/b/syntrax/N-9bk# -
January thread for Dec. 2016 bypass
dballard replied to TXJess's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had surgery on Jan 10. Could not stand any of the protein shakes. Dr recommended Genepro I get on Amazon. Mix in my water and has no taste. I get 30 grams of protein twice a day with it. I would not be able to get all my protein in without it. -

I was so concerned when I read this, cause I rely so heavily on genepro for my protein. I ran across this on a body building blog, seemed to answer things for me... Genepro - highest rated protein on the planet LARGEbagFrontWEB.jpgHey there guys. I am the Doctor/Genetic Bio-Scientist that invented Genepro and am the owner of Musclegen Research. Serving size is 1 Tablespoon = 30g of protein.. Here is a little about the product and the difference between Genepro and any other protein on the market. We are working with bodybuilding.com to carry Genepro as well as out other products.. What makes Genepro so unique is that we are able to reduce the protein molecule to half the size of normal protein through a process called Electrophoresis. This is a reverse electrical polarity method of extracting pure protein. In essence we take protein molecules that, for reference, are the size of a baseball. We push these baseball sized protein molecules through a Polyacrylamide gel (the gel stays below 87 degrees F) and introduce electricity through the gel. This process removes hydrogen ions, allergens and any fillers or binders so we are able to then bind the protein with a strand of six amino acids called a Hexapeptide which stabilizes the molecular structure. This hexapeptide increases shelf life of the protein as well as balancing the bitter taste that is present with the protein after electrophoresis and actually gives the protein a slightly sweet undertone. The protein is pushed through a filtration system and into a centrifuge which results in a pure protein molecule that is now the size of a golf ball (for reference). You may not be able to fit 30 baseballs into a shoe box but you can fit 30 golf balls. Thus giving us the ability to get 30grams of protein in a 1TBS serving size. This process also changes the caloritic count as well to 3.2 calories per gram of protein. The process as well at the hexapeptide are patent pending and have never been used before in nutrition (it's a genetic process that is used primarily in forensic science). The other interesting fact is that most protein supplements digest in the lower GI and whey is absorbed at only 31% so if you're "taking" 30g of whey, your body is only taking in 9g. Genepro is digested in the upper GI which eliminates gluten, lactose and bowel sensitivity and absorbs at a rate of 94% which makes it 3 times more effective than any other protein on the planet (medical or open market). Flavorless and odorless and can be mixed instantly in any food or beverage (hot or cold) without changing the taste or consistency. Truly the most complex and advanced protein on the planet. Each 1pound container comes with 3 empty, re-useable travel pouches that make it super convenient to use anytime, anywhere and in anything -

Better late than never, I use Genepro daily as a supplement to protein I take in via food. It is approved by my nutritionist, however I do not count it as 30 grams of protein, i count it as 15. I mix it in with my morning hot tea, greek yogurt, diet grape crandberry juice and pb2. I am 4 months out, down 68 pounds and all of my lab work has come back perfect. For me personally, it truly is the best supplement. -
Genepro protein powder is a little pricey but perfect for you to put in your food. No taste and it's a really small scoop compared to others! Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Today, I am wondering what I have done to myself
PorkChopExpress replied to agirlhasnofluff's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
You don't have to do Protein powder as a shake. If the volume of liquid is a problem, start making it like a "pudding" consistency so it takes up less room. Get some of the flavorless GENEPRO protein that is 30g in a one TBSP size. You can mix it with a ton of things. There ARE ways to get the protein and I strongly recommend getting as much as you possibly can while you're healing, because it speeds recovery immensely. Not to mention helping you retain muscle mass so you can keep burning fat more efficiently. -
Adventures with Unjury Unflavored
coyote replied to expectopatronum's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Have you tried Genepro protein? It definitely has a taste but I can easily mask it with other flavors. I also love Fairlife milk and it will be the only brand I'll drink from here on. I too loved Premier while pre-op but can't stand it now. Tonight for "dessert' I'm making my own protein smoothie with Fage yogurt, Fairlife milk, sugar free syrup, and a little bit of spices. Will see how it turns out! -
Protein drink recommendations
SassySonz replied to Koko.G's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! You had your surgery a month before mine! I get GenePro unflavored protein powder on Amazon. It's 30 grams of protein and just 50 calories. You can put it in a Gatorade Zero shake it up and have your 30 grams of protein. I'll mix it with milk, almond milk, coconut milk etc first and then pour it in my coffee as a creamer. I do green smoothies with water or milk, scoop of protein, frozen fruit, spinach and kale add a little sugar substitute if needed and blend up in the blender! Lots of easy things you can do with it! Nice thing is it has no flavor and will take on the flavor of whatever you add it too. Good luck getting your protein in! -
Protein drinks make me nauseous
chiquitatummy replied to Jnfinney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so sorry, full liquid stage is hard enough without your main food source making you sick. A few ideas for you to consider (if you haven't already) thinning the protein shake or using them to thin greek yogurt. bariatric protein soups and protein hot cocoas (you can get them on Amazon). using plain genepro - it is nearly taste and textureless - in a cup of tea, juice, or milk. FYI - there is some controversy on the genepro claim of how much protein is in a serving. At my dietician's advice I half the protein they claim to have in a serving just to be safe. Adding powdered milk to milk to make a higher protein drink, especially if you use fairlife milk which is already higher in protein. making popsicles out of the protein shakes, maybe having them as a frozen meal will make a difference?
