Post op protien, what did you use?
goplay94123 replied to mileysfitmommy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
premiere Protein pre made chocolate and vanilla GENEPRO no flavor powder that i mixed into broth or Ice tea for extra protein (genepro is controversial on here but for me personally i liked it) good luck -
My savior during soft foods was refried Beans, salsa, and cheese. You can mix Protein powder in as well! some Amy's refried black beans, heated up with cheese so it gets melty add in the salsa, so that it cools enough to add a scoop of GENEPRO protein, and you have a snack that has well over 30g. You'll absorb that protein, and even have some left over for energy!

Calling all June '16 sleevers!
Pipergurl replied to shrinkingkimber's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use genepro so I don't have protein liquid to include. I'm dragging but keep praying it gets better. Friday I'm going to Virginia and I'm petrified that I'll become dehydrated, 7 hours from home! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App -
Same thing happened to me - I find most shakes too cloying now. Try adding GENEPRO to your coffee or tea. It's whey based and while it doesn't have a strong flavor, it's vaguely reminiscent of powered milk for me and you cannot taste it in white coffee or tea.

I'm freaking HUNGRYYYY! Eeerrrrgggg!
crazyplantlady replied to SiSSi829's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe find a new doctor? A different surgeon for better advice. I think your doctor is trying to force you to lose more weight with such an extended post-op diet... maybe he sensed a lack of total self control? Eating bacon, Cereal, and milk is certainly more than your stomach can handle right now. All doctors will agree on that. Your stomach is not producing the necessary enzymes and acids to break down such rich food, and you can damage your new stomach. Everyone makes mistakes, but it's important to understand why they are mistakes and learn from them. Harshness isn't going to help you to do that, instead you'll lash out and defend your mistakes, which is not the right reaction either. That being said, at least you didn't do anything more drastic. If you're feeling weak, it's time to start experimenting with different Protein sources. They'll help and be within your dietary restrictions. GENEPRO, unjury, premier, etc etc Lots of different protein powders and shakes, there's something to suit everyone's taste! I can't handle thick textures and overly sweet either, so I love genepro because it just adds a milky taste to anything I mix it with. -
2-Weeks Post-Op: Already a 'Success Story'
bini120 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted to add a positive account of my 2 weeks post-op, to give pre-op folks some comfort. After minor episodes of mild incision pain and occasional bouts of nausea as my new stomach got used to digestion again over the last 2 weeks, my body is feeling almost completely normal again. I am in awe of its ability to heal itself. - My incisions are 4 very small cuts (belly-button, sternum, left and ride side of torso) which do not hurt at all anymore. I have some itching occasionally, but I understand that this signals healing. - I can drink Water in normal larger sips now (and even if I forget and take a larger gulp, there is no discomfort) - I have almost completely gone off the taste of Protein shakes (can only manage Core Power banana milkshakes even though, as one user pointed out, these are higher in carbs, so I don't drink more than 1 a day). I get most of my protein through my vegetarian puree diet (Beans, tofu, cottage cheese, (no eggs)) and through adding GENEPRO to my 3-daily cups of tea. - I feel fullness/restriction much better now that I'm on purees (compared to when I was on full liquids - I have to guess if I'd had enough Soup as that flows through rather quickly). A couple of times I've eaten my pureed dinner a bit too quickly and have felt nauseous for 15-20 minutes. That's something to remember with the VSG surgery - your body can feel so normal after a while that you 'forget' about the limitations of your new stomach. - I've lost 14 lbs since surgery and 20 lbs since my highest weight. But mentally, I want to focus on healing rather than weight loss at this stage. I know the weight loss will come - it can't not! I see and feel slight changes in my shape already. - I took 4 weeks off work (because luckily, I could) but could have easily gone back to my office job this week. - I walk 2 miles every evening and while I'm not allowed anything more strenuous for another 4 weeks, I did help pack and unpack furniture and other bits while our home was being decorated these last 2 weeks. I also flew to the Caribbean and back (for a convalescing vacation) without any issues. Take comfort from no-complication stories like mine - as miserable as you might feel a day or two after surgery, your body is designed to snap back quicker than you think. -

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
Medic5301 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone! Today is my two week post op mark. I've been on puréed foods since the 1st. I have to say that cottage cheese is the best thing so far. I just tried some mashed potatoes thinned out with some gravy and it was good but I could only have 4 bites before getting full. I am still struggling with protein goals. I can't tolerate the shakes post surgery, they make me feel sick. The GENEPRO will be here Thursday I hope that works out. I have been staying hydrated the best I can. It just feels like I'm non stop sipping on something just to get the required amount of fluid so I don't dehydrate. Fourth of July weekend was hard. Everyone was having burgers and hotdogs and I was having 4oz of cottage cheese. Oh well. The best part was this morning when I stepped on the scale... I'm down over 20lbs!! Stuggling with clear liquid phase
becomingmandikaye replied to AlexandraStJames's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you could have skim milk could you not have Premier Protein? It is about the same consistency and has much more Protein than milk. Oh, yes I could. I was just struggling with the taste at the time and opted to get my protein through small amounts of Isopure and GENEPRO in broth. -
Best protein powder- mixed and premade!
magoosmom replied to Red_lips_and_confidence's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't done any of the premade ones yet. I am using Optimum Nutrition's vanilla flavor powder. It has 24 grams of Protein per scoop and was recommended by my doctor's office. It isn't overly sweet to me. I mix it in a Blender Bottle with 8 ounces of Water for most shakes. I have found one shake that I really like b/c it's not very sweet at all. It's 1 scoop of the ON powder, 4 ounces of Fairlife milk, 4 ounces of water, and 2 tablespoons of PB2 powdered Peanut Butter. Not thick either. My other strong recommendation is GENEPRO unflavored powder. It's 30 grams of protein for one small scoop. I am a seriously picky eater and thought it would bother me, but it really doesn't taste like anything much. I have even added it to a cup of iced tea and all it did was make the tea taste powdery LOL. But easy to drink. -

Isopure unflavored. I am leery of genepro after looking at their website. -
Syntrax nectar Protein shake in the Cookies n Cream flavor mixed with Fairlife milk is awesome. And GENEPRO added to broth is also amazing (and can yield 30g of protein in only 4 oz of broth)

Mixing protein powder
MissKay replied to charley27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My go-to (because I cannot stand the taste of any flavored regular whey or protein powder) is mixing Genepro (unflavored) with vanilla almond milk and sugar-free chocolate syrup. I use a Blender Bottle to mix it, and it's never thick. I use about 6 to 8oz of the almond milk, a squeeze of the chocolate, a serving of Genepro, and then shake, shake, shake! -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
Medic5301 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all. Just had my first post op appointment. I have to say today is the first day I feel back to normal. I've been cleared to go back to work tomorrow! Also things taste good again. My dietician told me about GENEPRO by Musclegen Research. It's completely tasteless and instantly dissolves in liquid or you can put in anything... 30 grams of protein per tablespoon!! I can't wait to try it! It will make protein goals so much easier. I was where some of you are now and I promise it gets better. This will be worth it!! Take care everyone. Can I increase my protein this way?
crazyplantlady replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally don't like the Syntrax nectars. There's a weird aftertaste or it makes the Water have a weird quality to it... I can't handle it. I think you should just try out different things until you find something that works! I had to try out several different powders before settling on GENEPRO. You can get samples of everything at GNC, and everything is heavily reviewed on Amazon. Another thing you can experiment with is mixing powders into different foods. I can mix Genepro into yogurt, pudding, even Beans and cheese and it tastes good! You can mix it into soup, tea, coffee, anything that has cheese in it, or that would taste good if it had milk in it. I think you can do the same with unjury as well. The thing that I liked more about genepro was that it was slightly more tolerant of warmer temperatures (not too hot though!) and there was more Protein in a smaller serving. Our lifestyle change is hard, and it's going to take a little bit of experimentation to figure out what works. -

becomingmandikaye replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist suggested doing this if we were struggling. I've found that GENEPRO in broth is the best way for me to get my Protein in - 30g of protein in 4 oz of broth is definitely doable a few times per day. -

Anyone have to do post op liquid diet?
MissKay replied to correak's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I only had to do 2 weeks pre-op liquids, and 2 weeks post-op. I technically don't start purees until Monday, but my nutritionist who works very closely with my surgeon said if I felt ready to introduce some of the pureed items already, I could. I've added in cottage cheese and soft scrambled eggs. The eggs gave me some gas pain, but otherwise I did pretty well with them. That's so strange that they have you hat 4 weeks.... that's a long damn time. As for Protein drinks, get GENEPRO. I mix it in with vanilla almond milk and SF chocolate syrup, and it tastes really good. You can't really taste the protein at all. I've mixed it with broth too. Others have mixed it in with yogurt, applesauce, etc. -
Best Tasting Protein Shake
Clementine Sky replied to charley27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What blender do you use? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I love the NutriBullet because it blends so quickly and is convenient. I just pop on a lid and can head out the door. As for protein powders, I really like Unjury's chocolate flavored Protein Powder. I'd add coconut cream to it for an Almond Joy flavor, or PB2 for a Reese's-like treat. Chike's protein powder is also tasty. If there is a Sprout's near you they have unflavored whey protein that dissolves really well into both hot and cold drinks. You can buy it by the weight, so you don't have to commit to a giant tub of it when you just want to sample it. I also liked GENEPRO. Starting about two weeks out I began making smoothies using a yogurt that is high in protein and low in carbs, frozen berries (also lower in carbs) and frozen spinach (the berries mask the flavor, and the consistency is better if it's frozen) rather than using protein powder, and that's what I've stuck with this whole time.
