I think way too much. I just tracked everything for the past couple days and I am shocked. But just this week I started feeling better and eating better so breakfast: 1 cup of oatmeal or 1-2 scrambled eggs with cheese Protein shake : 3 scoops. I blend it with ice and do it all at once. Comes out to almost 2 cups. Will drink 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. snack: laughing cow cheese lunch: 1 egg beat made in crepe style some refried Beans and cheese snack: rest of my Protein Shake or a greek yogurt with protein or a pudding with protein dinner: Soup or if I am feeling okay some tuna or chicken salad. I am averaging 900-1000 calories a day 70 grams of protein and some 50grams of carbs. I think its too much my husband thinks its too little and my body is in starvation mode. Who knows ???

I love that yogurt. It's got 13 to 15 g of protein per package, so it's a good bang for the calories, in my opinion. Plus you don't have to mess with it.
-
At the beginning, you can't. But you try. Over time, it gets easier. If you can't eat your protein, then you should drink your protein--protein shakes, Isopure, Syntrax Nectar, those types of things that also count as your fluid intake. But also start to note what types of protein you are able to eat. Can you tolerate yogurt? Cottage cheese? Have you tried that Ricotta Bake?

Stomach bulge, feeling hungry
KristenLe replied to Ley's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hummus, cottage cheese, soft cheese, greek yogurt, beans, tuna, baked fish, ... You need to get your protein and water in. -
Jamie, put you feet up, get your ipod, watch TV, read a book, but just give yourself time to heal. You just had major surgery, you're not supposed to lift more than 10 lbs for 6 weeks. OK, so maybe that's not possible, but still, take it easy. Any house cleaning will still be there next week. You can take liquid Tylenol if the hydrocodone doesn't work, drink lots of tea and sip, don't gulp water. It's really important to get as much water down as possible, up to 64 oz and everything counts, even the water in yogurt. Take it easy, don't stress over small stuff, a little depression is normal, and be sure to take a bunch of time for yourself. The pain is normal, most people go through it. Try to keep your attitude positive and I'll guarantee you'll be over this part in just a few weeks.

I had some frozen greek yogurt..I guess it was too sweet...although when I was eating it, I was fine. About 10 minutes later I was nauseous(had to have that extra bite) but I also had this "someone just poured 10lbs of sugar down my throat"..taste in the back of my throat..I get this occasionally from certain foods..anyone else get this?

Artificial Sweetners
VanessaVSGforme replied to VanessaVSGforme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 4 weeks and 5 days. Wednesday will be 5 weeks. The only thing I use it in is usually oatmeal/cream of wheat, plain Greek yogurt, decaf green tea or black tea. All I use is just half a packet of sweet n low or Splenda in each. I guess I should've added with the powerades, I have to dilute it half water half powerade. Still doesn't really make sense though. Also, sugar free pudding and jello upsets me. Sugar free creamsicles. Last night I bought a quest bar...I was craving peanut butter and regular PB is filled with fat so I had a TINY bite...I mean pea size bute...of a peanut butter supreme quest bar and YUCK. It tasted like artificial WAX. I will not be eating those. So as of today, I'm cutting out all SF "sweets" and sweetners and just going to drink/eat things the way they come. -
Tuba or salmon patties. I buy them Pre made in a pouch like regular tuna. High protein and low cal. That plus some salad or veggies keeps mr full about 5 hrs. And I have gone back to homemade protein smoothies in the morning. Fresh fruit. Ice. Greek yogurt. Lots of person and my fiber too since I add benefiber powder. I I get hungry and need a snack a handful of almonds or a 90cal fiber one bar tides me over.

I tried cereal last night with milk and it was very uncomfortable. I'm thinking maybe because of the liquid with solid food. I'll have to try it with Greek yogurt. Thanks!

@@BellaLuce4 Thank you. I'm surprised how much I can actually get down. I had 20oz of coconut water, 4oz Of plain water and 4oz of isopure. Better than I thought it would be. I also had 1 tablespoon of Fage 2% plain yogurt mixed with another tablespoon of chobani banana Greek yogurt. It was delicious. I just ate really slow and I was able to get it all in. I'm not pushing it though. I'm just sipping water for the rest of the night!

I use the unflavored in my banana yogurt smoothies. No problem! Jo Ann

November 1st Bandsters -- Can you believe it's been a week already?
solaa5 replied to Longhorn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, Guess the question at hand is how am I doing after a week... Well, here goes: I had low fat yogurt today (1/2 a cup) and that filled me up a lot. Went to the mall with my sister and mother...and after three hours of walking around, I was tired as hell. Came home, tried to eat some mushy Cereal but only had a few bites before the shoulder and back gas pain started bothering me so I stopped. I waited 30 mins bofore I went back to my splenda and lemon infused iced tea...yummie... I'll try some scrambled eggs or cottage cheese for dinner... Cannot tolerate the shakes because they make me gassy and irritate me...I'll try them again in a few days. I am so glad I am off work for the month. I don't know how some of you are doing it, but I couldn't imagine heading back to work the way I feel...even though I have a desk job. I am also on my period which is causing me to be weak (as usual)...and tired as hell...so I am glad I have the time off... What's really annoying me is the constant shoulder pain I have and the annoying burps I have to let the air out. My port is still sore, especially when I bend to try and tie my shoe laces. I cannot wait for the discomfort to end. I have a follow up with the doctor tomorrow and believe me, a long list of questions regarding pain (it's never been my favorite thing to endure). For the most part, I am glad to be moving onto mushy foods...I have been on liquids a total of 4 weeks...3 weeks pre- op and this past week. It felt like a breath of fresh air to use a spoon for a change...LOL Total weight loss so far, 20 lbs, which means I have 80 lbs to go. What a road I have ahead...and I am glad not to be doing it alone... -
Wastefulness
Catracks replied to ChunkyAndFluffy75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I save everything in little tupperwares. I am not able to throw good food away. I plan my menuus out so that meat cooked for dinner goes into lunch the next day. I don't cook something new until I've finished the leftovers. Cottage cheese and yogurt are easy. Just take 1/4 cup out. The chunky part of the Soup could be frozen and pureed or used when the time comes. I've got chicken breast and gravy, 4 types of pureed soup and crock pot beef stew frozen in mini tupperwares for use as needed. What I learned from Eggface is that leftovers can be revamped into something else for the next day. She does these little quiche things that use leftover meats and cheese. They can also be casseroled or used as toppings for pizza (crust is low carb wheat tortillas). The cool part of all this small portions is that I can afford beef fillet mignon, sashimi grade ahi and lobster for the amount I eat. YAY!!!! -
I'm doing okay with things like Protein shakes (about 6-8 oz but it can take me 30-45 minutes to get it down), yogurt (4 oz in about 30 minutes), applesauce (4 oz in about 30 minutes). Warm non-calorie liquids I seem to be able to get down easier than cool (I don't drink anything cold). So like you, I need to improve in that area. On reality I feel like I could transition to puréed foods right now but unfortunately am on the above diet for another two weeks :-(

Difficulty with protein
ProudGrammy replied to graceday32001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@graceday32001 since you didn't mention otherwise...... besides the protein issue, is everything else going well?? gas, bathroom "issues", tiredness? are you having problems getting Water in? are you able to sip without a problem? room temperature water is always a suggestion to be more successful with your drinking many people use crystal lite bottom line is, drinking (as much as possible) water is more important than protein at this early stage of the game necessity of protein is also there, but again water is much more important!!! iwhen people don't drinkenough water they frequently get dehydrated (me at 6 weeks ) i became dehyrated on Valentines Day so i'll never forget the date then they have to go to hospital have IV's to get hydrated spend the night thats great you are eating yogurt is great way to get protein in i eat Fage 0% greek plain yogurt 20 gr of protein yum, yum, yum speaking for myself and some others......... Protein shakes??? blahhh, yech but continue to try and drink them shakes should be given to kids as punishment as suggested by @@Elizabeth21 add unflavored Protein powder to "whatever" i know you will progress with your protein issue i have plenty of confidence in you I see a healthier, happier, longer life in your future good luck bud kathy -
I just got back from a week long cruise in April. It was awesome! I ate what I wanted but because I am banded, I ate less. I had frozen yogurt every day and as many times a day as I wanted. You get so much exercise while onboard that I would not worry. You walk everywhere. I had Mongolian stirfry for lunch everyday and formal dining fantastic menus for supper. I did not skimp. I did not worry. Just remember that you will be eating less. I lost four pounds during the nine days I was gone and I ate the most fantastic food onboard and in every port.

Sometimes dairy and sugar cause issues very early on so things like protein shakes custard yogurt and apple sa use. I was like that. I then blended chicken and veg soup to a thin consistency and that was fine. Obviously you are best to follow your Dr. But just providing and idea it could be your sleeve doesn't like the above I mentioned like mine at first. All the best.

I was able to have the Lap Banding done on 4/19 and am doing well...sore and stiff, but not as painful as yesterday. I am able to get all the fluids down and protein (drink 2 protein shakes from Costco with 30gm EACH and 11 oz each)...I feel comfortable eating a whole package of cream of wheat, a 6 oz yogurt, etc so don't feel any restriction or swelling restriction yet....I'm trying to limit the quantity so I don't stretch out the pouch....my surgeon keeps on the "slip and slide" yogurt, puddings, all liquids, cream soups, etc only for the first week and then advances to "regular" foods and I'm afraid I'll stretch the pouch out before my first fill on May 18. No nausea at all, and am not really hungry. Let me know how you're doing. Carol:thumbup:

Eggface Frozen Protein Drops
Gastricsleeve4me replied to Gastricsleeve4me's topic in Purée (stage 2)
I smashed them down with a spoon before freezing...Gave it a good mix too, so consistency was like drippy yogurt before freezing -
To me the most daunting part of this whole experience was going to be the 2 week pre-op diet. Here's the scary part. My surgery is August 26th. That means as of this morning I am starting the anxiety invoking, terrifying, I hope I can do it, I have to do it 2 week diet. In these 2 weeks I am going to wean myself off of coffee (my taste of heaven every morning, noon and night). I plan on making it weaker and weaker by adding more fat free milk. Until it is more like milk with a splash of coffee vs. the other way around. I do self medicate in the sense that I use caffine to prevent my migraines. For those that don't have migraines, just imagine a headache 10 times worse than a caffine withrawl headache with a sinus infection during a very stressful time on top of allergies. I am afraid to be hungry. I get headaches when I am hungry. I have prepared my self for this diet for weeks now. I have tried practically every bariatric Protein drink available and have purchased the ones I like (yes, there are a few that are really, really yummy). I have stocked up on diet pop-cycles, diet fudge-cycles, crystal light, diet gatorade, fat free milk, cream of wheat, cream of rice, diet syrup for the cream of rice and wheat, diet Jello, diet pudding, cream of tomato Soup, cream of chicken soup, I even bought yogurt (which I detest but gonna try anyways). This is probably gonna be one of the hardest hurdles I'll have to jump in my life. I've got the CAN-DO attitude, I need to do this. I would appreciate as many words of encouragement that I can get.

http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/82505-double-chocolateblack-cherry-protein-pops/ Hey, check out this thread. I froze some Protein last night, and it was very good. Much easier to tolerate than the shakes. My recipe is there. I mixed in some Greek Yogurt to give it some creaminess.

For me, all day nausea, horrible gas, stomach cramping and discomfort, followed by really bad bathroom issues. It's horrible. RTD Protein drinks, even lactose free ones, make me horribly ill. I used to love Oh Yeah or Muscle Milk but they make me so sick I can't stand it. I stick to Syntrax Nectars and mix with Water, coffee, tea, soy milk or juice. The good news is that my intolerance has gotten much better the farther out from surgery I get. I still can't drink a glass of cow's milk, but I can tolerate cheeses, a small amount of yogurt or ice cream, cream sauces if they aren't too rich, and most important to me: a splash of cream in my coffee. ~Cheri

November 1st Bandsters -- Can you believe it's been a week already?
lindata replied to Longhorn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't wait to have canned fruit and cottage cheese! pureed chicken salad on crackers!! yogurt! cheese! Who knew I'd be over the moon about these things? haha My one incision area is falling off somewhat. My doc said I could take them off after 1 week. I'm quite nervous to do that!! I don't want to look! ewww, gross! I just hope to God my port area is not infected. So when you're all eating your Breakfast tomorrow, think of me, slowly peeling back stinky, yellow surgical tape, sticking to my fish-white belly, catching on the skin! hahaha, so gross! Linda -
Eating too soon?
IndioGirl55 replied to SarahMarie123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pure Protein makes a good vanilla cream shake pre-made - 120 cal 19 grms pt and low in carbs - I add 1/2 banana and some Peanut Butter in a blender and ice - It's to die for - and I really don't do Protein Shakes at this stage (3 yrs) I really use it for dessert - you can add what ever you like - I had the unjury when I 1st got banded - unflavored - added flavored sf yogurt and fruit - But to tell you the truth I like the pure protein pre-made ones the best - and I hate pt shakes - like I said when you doctor them up they are excellent - imho That was too much food too in a short period of time - you have to contimplate your stomach - you will feel a new diff full now - but your head will say - oh that's all you are you need more food - Don't listen to it - listen to your stomach you are suppose to eat 3 meals and my doc allows 2 healthy Snacks - So after you have had your planed food - no more - 30 min (or what ever your doc instructed) start drinking your Water.. Yep - no band for your head - I know you have been told - WLS is not the easy way out - even when you have good restriction.. It's still work.. -
Kay I'm panicked a bit. I'm 5 days post op and I don't seem to have a full button at all. I moved from liquids to mush today- yogurt, pudding etc. the problem is I don't have get full. It says work up from a tsp to Tbl yet today I sat down to eat some pudding and I had to make myself stop eating when it was almost half gone rather than my body telling me to quit. Is there a problem? Did the dr maybe not cut it small enough? Should I be concerned?
