  1. I'm from Whittington Il. -17 mi. South of mt vernon. My kidney specialist suggested lapband to me on Thurs. My surgery will be performed at Mt. vernon Good Sam. Hosp. It will be done by Dr.Shores.. Dr.Rashid my kid. spec. says good sam is lookin' into this as a new program. He wants me to do this because I'm 42 and have 1 dead kidney and the other functioning at 10%. Basically it is too poss. let funct. bounce back and improve my quality of life until dialysis. and then eventually transplant. Would love to talk to women who have been or are going to go thru this. Shelly

  2. We are all differant. I have only had two 1ml fills. But my husbands boss had to have like 10 fills. I am glad that your surgery went well. Keep me posted on your success. Have a great day!!

  3. Hi there missy... hope all is well. I havent logged in here in for ever!

All is well my end. I am at 4 cc's and going for my next fill next monday. I still find I can eat normal / small quantities, however fill up faster. I also find that I am still hungry after a couple hours of eating...

In all I have lost 20lbs since surger on 5/11/10 and 32lbs since I started dieting prior to surgery. How about you??

  4. It is hard! I am sory for the delayed response! I haven't bene on in forever! I dont know I was banded in August 2008 and I went from 246lbs to 220lbs and thats it. I got down to 200 and then went back up to 234lbs. It is a constant battle. i think I have had 10 fills and go for another next week. I go to the gym and eat right and get soo disappointed. I am trying to look up right now. Congrats on your weightloss so far! I wish I have lost that much!

  5. Hi, and Welcome to the journey of an added extra lifetime. I know because I have added 10 or more years to mine. If you need a buddy I am here, Blog buddies are very supportive. I do not know where I would be without the people on this site and others blog spots that helped me thru my ruff times. I may suggest stay happy, positive and nourished and all will go well for you. I have made many mistakes and I have learned a lot about myself. That is why many call this a journey. Thanks for asking me to be your friend. Have a great day. Best wishes Kathy imaluckydog

  6. Thanks for the pic comment. I was 285 pre-op. It's been a little over 10 months and I'm about 180 now. :) Happy to be out of the 200's. I have about 35 more til goal.

  7. Hey Carrie! My summer's been great so far. I've overcome my plateu and have officially lost 100 lbs. I feel so great. I went to my doc 6 weeks ago and she gave me a fill that put me at my "sweet spot" and since that time i've lost 10 lbs.

I had a great 4th of July. I went to my mom's house in Allegan, MI and we spent the whole time at the beach. It was great!

As for you the reason why you are probably continuously getting stuck is because you are upchucking (for lack of a better word) too much and the area has become inflamed. Have you tried going on a liquid diet for a week or so (while you heal) and then tried going back to regular foods? How many cc's do you have?I notice that humidity plays into things alot. on those hot and humid days I have a very hard time keeping food down.

  8. Need advice. Had the lap band 1/28/10 but still having trouble with eating. Everything seams to want to come up with a lot of saliva if I eat before about 5 or 6 in the evening. Then I can eat a small amount of food but still have to be careful. Food seems to get stuck just above the band. Any suggestions?

  9. gurllll guess wut?! I finally hit my -50 pounds! Im soo happy :) I went 2 da gym like 5 times this week...Im proud of myself and imma aim for -10 more pounds b4 the 17th!

  10. I am in now day 6 of my post op but let me update where I came from since Monday.

When they did my Barium swallow just a drop or 2 of contrast went thru. They assumed the Dr. would pull the primer fluid from the band before I left the hospital. did not happen. He assumed that the swelling would go down and I would be fine. Didn't happen couldn't get hardly a thing in my body. Called the Dr. and they said to come back to the office the next morning and they would draw out any fluid in the band. Easy for them to say, I lived 3 hours from the hospital. Got there at 10:30 on Friday morning. They took the fill syringe and went in thru the cut where the port was placed. Hurt like heck. Pulled 3cc of fluid and it was like the dam broke and I open up and felt it immediatly. They gave me a cup of water and it went down and oh what a relief it was. I am now consuming about 500 calories a day. No nausea or reflux and getting about 48 ounce of water and my strength is coming back.

  11. How are you doing Marw?

Georgia weather is very nice lately. It's cooler in the afternoons which make it very pleasant to spend some outdoor fun with my five year old son. If we did not have mosquitoes things would be perfect. I feel the same way about my band. It is making life so much easier when it comes to food. I don't have the came desires and caving like I once did. If I eat my food really slowly, I am full within a couple of spoonfuls of whatever I am eating. I am losing several inches all over my body. I go for my second fill on 9-9-10. I am hoping things will really pick up for me then. Keep me posted on your progress.

  14. Hello msdeneen2004:

Yes I exercise. I can't beleive I am saying that seeing how exercise was pretty much a four letter word for me prior to my surgery. I am not an exercise fanatic, but i do try to do it at least 3-4 times a week. I am a big fan of Leslie Sansone. I have about 10 of her videos. She does the Walk Away the Pounds series. You pretty much do walking and variations of walking in your own home. When i first started I could not do her 1 mile (15 minutes) video without being out of breath. I was that out of shape. When I was doing my "hardcore" routine (lol), I would do her 5 mile (about an hour) about 4-5 times a week. Now I try to do at least 30 minutes of exercise (which is two miles) 3-4 times a week. The point is find something you like and do it at least 3-4 times a week. What works for me is the Leslsi sansone videos becasue you will get a good workout, but it is not like a bootcamp "work you til you fall out" thing.

  15. ugh...tha is so frustrating but it motivates me to work harder. i need to stay away from the bad food choices too. ive been goin to the gym but now that ive started school i dont kno wen ill have time. but some how ive lost 10 lbs in the last 3 weeks and im finally under 300lbs!! im so happy about that. :) yea my first fill is next month on the 8th. i cant wait.

  19. I've had one fill, I got it on 6/30/10. I'm scheduled for he 2nd fill on 8/18. I can't wait to have "restriction"!

  20. Hello!! Yes, I am very excited!! I am on day 10 of my pre-op diet and to my surprise, I feel great!! My doctor does a modified liquid diet, he allows us to have one meal a day along with the 2 protein shakes.

  21. you look so AMAZING! When was your surgery date? You have lost sooooo much weight! What kinds of things did you do and do you continue to do? CONGRATS!

I was banded 3/31/10 and so far am down 40lbs. I was hopeing for more and am super determined, but I have NO restriction yet what so ever. I could eat an elephant if I wanted. BUT I DONT! lol It is kind of frustrating since I have no restriction cause Its like I could be doing this whole diet thing without the lap band. So hopefully y next fill helps me out!

  22. hi im a newbie looking for people to share info about the lapband! i dont get mine till aug 3 10! canit wait! soooo how do this work? is it like a facebook for lapbandsters?

  23. Hello, I am so sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. I have been terrible at logging on here. I just went to Dr. Hawasli today for a small fill. I hope that you like hime. Sometimes he is a bit tough on his patients, but it's love. Come to our bariatric support group meetings! They are on the first Wednesday of every month at the Bethel church located on Little Mack at 10 1/2 mile.

  24. Hi, Cynthia! Yes, I got a meal plan from my doctor. It's very, very simple.

For the first 2 days, it's clear liquids. Then:

Weeks 1-2: pureed protein, 3 Tbs 3x/day; bariatric vitamin

Weeks 3-4: 1.5-2 oz. of soft, moist protein (meat, eggs, fish, poultry) 3x/day/ bariatric multivitamin

Weeks 5-6: All protein allowed--2 serving 3x/day; bariatric multivitamin

Weeks 7-8: 2-2.5 ounces protein 3x/day; bariatric multivitamin

Week 9: 2.5 ounces protein 3x/day; bariatric multivitamin

Week 10-11: 2.5-3 ounces protein 3x/day, add 1/2 cup nonstarchy veggies 1x/day; bariatric multivitamin

Week 12: 3 ounces protein 3x/day, 1/2 cup nonstarchy veggie 1x/day' bariatric multivitamin

  25. Hi. I'm pretty new to this site and still trying to figure out how the messaging/friend thing works...

I'm in central VA. I'm guessing the "72" in your name is the year you were born...Me too. :smile2: Your family picture is sweet. My family is similar. One girl (almost 4) one boy (almost 19 mos). Looks like you recently had surgery. I'm 10 months out. It's going slowly, but going. My 5th fill is next week. Still glad I did it, but it is certainly a long learning process (moreso than I thought it would be) despite all the pre op preparation and 15 yrs clinical nutrition experience. All I can say, is stick to the guidelines as much as possible. I tend to fall off the bandwagon a lot since I don't have full restriction yet, but I know eventually, I will reach my goals.

Hope you're enjoying the mushy stuff! I know it was great to get a little texture back in my diet. Best of luck!
