  1. Regardless of where you have your surgery and the presence or absence of certain pre-op requirements, the key to success, in my opinion and experience, is successfully changing your relationship with food. In my case, I took my six month pre-op diet program requirement as an opportunity to lose as much weight as I could (99 pounds to be exact) and to change my relationship with food BEFORE the surgery. This was a good thing for me because post-op, I was able to deal with the discomfort, physical limitations, mental game, and the food stages (especially the never-ending 3 weeks of liquids post-op) more effectively because I wasn't trying to work on that relationship at the same time. Also, when the 3 week stall hit, I had lost about 120 pounds and not just 20 pounds, so that was much easier to accept and power through than it would have been otherwise. You might find a nutritionist and psychologist locally to work alongside whatever resources (human and otherwise) are offered through your surgeon in Mexico. Good luck!

    Missing the "Full" signal

Hey no problem! I just want to help you figure it out too. My surgery is tomorrow. I've seen a lot of people on here say that you don't start feeling full until you move onto purees. 2T is 1 oz, and the NUT also said take 20-30 mins to eat and then wait 30 mins after that to sip water. Maybe try slowing down? Maybe you're pushing too much through the sleeve and that's maybe why not losing as much? By no means am I any type of medical professional, I'm just trying to bounce some ideas around. You're what 9 days put now? Give your body some time to adjust, there were iv fluids and meds in your system. Plus I've seen on here the 2-3 week stall, maybe you started yours early. Have you taken measurements? Maybe that will help instead of the scale?

    How I Broke My Stall

Yeah I think going from all liquids to mushy and soft foods tends to bring on stalls. Plus our bodies are still healing from major surgery. If you use the search button and look up 3 week stall, you will find lots of posts about it. It's fairly common to experience stalls throughout the weight loss journey. My concern has never been how fast I lose weight (although I'd like it to be fast!), my concern is that once I lose the weight I want it to stay lost forever!!!
  4. I read a post where someone wrote there was a medical and scientific reason for this stall. Can someone link it? It would be nice if I had a reasonable explanation for the pool of blood that will form on my floor after I am done bashing my head into the wall today. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Finally! After almost a 3 week stall it broke this morning and I am at 198.2!!!!! It is WONDERFUL in ONEderland!!! These 13-15 pounds that I have been dealing with for about 4-5 months (when I actually tipped 199) have drove me craaazy! I am here to tell everyone that the stalls DO break and as frustrating as it was DURING the stall, stepping on that scale and FINALLY seeing it MOVE is soooooo REFRESHING!!!!!!!!!!!! So everyone that is about 5 1/2 weeks out.... tie a knot at the end of your rope and hang in there, this too shall pass if you are in a stall!!!! ALWAYS KEEP ROCKIN' YOUR SLEEVE!!!! XOXOXOX! Amy

200 lbs or more to lose?

Welcome! Congratulations on your new journey! I know how hard life has been being at such a high weight myself. My highest was 339! I was sleeved on 3/10/15 and have lost 36 pounds so far. Pre op I weighed 296. I still want to lose 180 more to hit the BMI and weight for my height. It's not the 200 you were looking for, but it's sure close in my eyes lol! I didn't post my weight at first either when I first started visiting this site, but as days went by, and reading all the other posts, my confidence got a little higher and higher. So finally I said what the heck! It's a weigh loss forum and why are we all here? So now, I'm up front with everything. Right now I'm experiencing the dreaded 3 week stall.. Been on it for a week now :-/ . Trying to stay motivated, I know it won't last, but dang it! It can get discouraging. So far my little tips that work for me: Never go past 3hrs without eating! I find if I do, I'm desperate for something and eat WAY too fast, and that hurts! Water water water.. Or G2 Gatorade.. Fluid fluid fluid. I find if I don't get enough fluids, NO ENERGY! And I try to get all my protein in the first couple times I eat for the day. I'll do a premier protein shake for bfast (30g protein), and then if I'm on the run I have a premier protein bar for snack(20g protein). Then when I do eat the rest of the day, I already know I got my protein in for the day. The gym is a must for me. I go 5-6 days a week. This is new to me. I started a month before my surgery. I find that on days I don't go, I beat myself up. Plus I feel much better after wards, plus I LOVE THE EXTRA ENERGY! I hope these encourage you. I know it's easier said than done. But I promise I am one to tell you, if I can do it, so can any one! Good luck to you!

    The dreaded 3 week stall

I'm four weeks out also and hit the 3 week stall last week. I have read enough info on this forum to know that stalls are temporary. AND IRRITATING! You are doing everything right - hang in there.... I didn't change anything at all and the scale finally started moving down again. I think our body needs to play catch up sometimes. Have faith and keep going forward - this a journey not a race (that's what someone told me!)
  8. I started at 244 the day I was sleeved 9/26/12. I had the 3 week stall lasted 2 weeks the 6 week stall lasted a week the 9 week stall lasted 4 weeks. I lost 3 lbs to go back in a stall that's been 12/14 days strong kind of stopped counting the days on this one I'm at 213 I hate that number . My Fluid intake is fine my Protein is fine my exercises fine my carbs not high. My metabolic rate higher than most I was told at 1750. I eat 1000/1200 cals a day. So as I weigh my self this morning and see 213 yet again I feel I have failed is 31lbs all I'm going to get I want to Explode. I workout 7 days a week even if its just a 30 min walk. My hair is good my skin arms tummy boobs is saggy I'm not the kind of person that gets depressed but right now I am so depressed . I was not a big eater to begin with and I've always been active my big problem was skipping days without eating and then Benge eating eating the wrong foods. My nut,doc and my Exercise psychologist don't know what's wrong or what to do has anyone at all had this any of the vets can add info here? I'm not lossing lots of inches on the stalls or at all I'm in a 16/18 have been sin 2 weeks out and not went down one inch other then in my shins 1 inch there that's all the inches iv lost in 7 weeks. P.s I can't type for crap on this phone it's a pita so be kind lmao hugz
  9. It's the dreaded 3 week stall. I had a stall at 10 days out that lasted for 2 1/2 weeks and I had another stall a few weeks after that. Since then some weeks I lose faster than others. It will come off, you just have to get adjusted. Stalls happen, it sucks, but they do. It seems like when the scale stalls for me, my clothes start getting looser and people start noticing my drop in weight. I dropped a pant size in my first stall, and have dropped two more since but both when the scale really had slowed down moving. Measure yourself and see your body changing in inches not just in the numbers on the scale.
  10. Can you tell I'm VERY type A and have like zero patience??? Does it show??? Lol I know the 3 week stall is a huge thing but it still sucks ! One thing you will have to learn through this whole process is patience. Sometimes, even when we are doing everything right, our bodies don't always want to cooperate. You have to just stay the course or try to change things up to get things moving again. This particular stall? There is ZERO you can do but stay the course. Oh, and stay off the scale

So Sick Of Clear Liquids Already!

I know I can. I was just bitching. i saw the videos of the surgery on Youtube. I do have to admit that the weight is dropping off at a scary pace. I didn't know a person could loose almost 3 pounds in a day. We'll see if I hit that 3 week stall everyone talks about. That will be week two of full liquids. I know, I shouldn't be concentraing on the weight loss at this point, but it's fun when you lose and it's been effortless. Boy do I feel good.
  12. Water retention? 3 week stall a little early? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Hello @@hbsk and welcome. I was sleeved on 9/30 as well. If you are following your plan, just stay the course. I gained all 8 lbs I had lost on my pre-surgery diet back afrer surgery from the IV fluid in the hospital. I lost then froze (stall) for 7 days. The scale has started to move again now. Don't give up! You can search this site on stall or 3 week stall and you will find it is not common. Good luck on your journey ☺
  14. I am also in the 3 week stall at the minute so I don't know how/if things will pick up after this, it was going so well the first 2.5 weeks!
  15. texashopeful- be patient. You have done great with your loss of 35 lbs in such a short amount of time. I had a 3 week stall about 5-6 weeks out. Your body is still healing. Give it time, and you will soon see some good drops every week! As long as you are getting your protein and water- it will be great. I am 12 weeks out, and 50 lbs down. I am very happy with that loss. I still have 80-90 to go!
  16. Hello everyone. I read the forum daily, but never post. After an incident last night, I felt compelled to. A little about me: I'm 34 and was sleeved on 12/16/15. My SW was 295 and CW is 271. I had my surgery through True Results. I had been depressed lately because I went through the 3 week stall. I really wanted to talk to others that knew what I was going through. So I planned on going to True Result's once a month support group meetings for guidance and support. I live with my cousin who had the lap-band 5 years ago, but it didn't work so well for her. She decided to have a sleeve revision when I had my sleeve. I asked her if she wanted to come to the support group at True Results with me and she said yes. We went and when everyone introduced themselves, I realized that I was the only person who had the sleeve. They were so anti-sleeve and found myself defending my choice all night. I heard things like "with the sleeve you gain all of your weight back after a year", "the enzymes grow back within 6 months to a year, "the sleeve is too invasive", and "the science proves that the lap band is superior". I felt vulnerable already because I feel like I'm not losing like I should, especially after my 3 week stall. They just made fun of me for whining about not losing weight fast enough. They were even rude to my cousin because she wanted the revision. I left even more discouraged than when I came in. Three of the women monopolized the discussions with any and every thing that popped into their heads. I was only able to speak during my introduction. I didn't want it to be all about me, but I didn't feel like I could get answers or just let how I felt out. We are all there for the same reason. Our surgical methods are different, but that shouldn't have mattered. Rants over. Thanks for reading.

    Stalled!

Hi everyone! Relax, you guys are hitting the dreaded 3 week stall! Most people have gone through it.. Just keep doing what you are doing and the scale will start moving again! No worries;) congrats on the weight loss so far!
  18. Well it has been a year now since my initial consult with my doctor. At the time I weighed 335 lbs and was just finishing up another summer of being miserably hot and desperate to lose the weight I had packed on during the last 15 years. I had just started a new job and found out that my insurance at my new company did cover weight loss surgery! I had tried 2 years ago but found out my old company's insurance did not cover WLS. I had to wait the 6 months that some insurance companies require that turned into almost 9 months while paper work was submitted and surgery dates were set. During that time I decided to try and start living the diet that was proscribed for post surgery. Anything but perfect following it, but I did manage to lose 30 lbs over 9 months. I almost called the surgery off probably 50 times at least in my head, but finally decided to follow through and was sleeved in early May. My weight on sleeve day after my 2 weeks of liquids was 300 lbs. After an initial 20 lbs drop, I hit the dreaded 3 week stall that lasted 3 weeks. Lost another 20 lbs and then stopped for another 3 weeks. I know have a slow and steady trickle of lbs released from my body. My waist has dropped from 48" to 38" and I feel fantastic. I haven't enjoyed summer this much in years as I don't get overheated and can enjoy it. People tell me I look 20 years younger. I hated the surgery at first, but have come to love it. I can drink as much Water as I want, but with solid food, 5 ounces max. The journey continues!
  19. Fern, thanks so much. I could just hug you right now! I will look up 3 week stall. I know I need to relax - and that sounds like it worked for you.
  20. you wont lose every time. this definately sounds like the 3 week stall. everyone goes through stalls. i am in one now. just posted about it and how i was feeling nervous about it. that is what is so great about having this place to vent and to get support. youll get through it!
  21. Guess I definitely hit the dreaded 3 week stall. Lost 14 pounds at 10 day post op appointment, then 2 more and then it stopped. So 3 weeks out and stuck at 16 pounds. I am getting about 500 calories / 60-70 grams of Protein a day. Eating Greek yogurt, fat free refried Beans, cottage cheese, hummus on soft lunch meat turkey that is easy for me to chew before swallowing. I see Nut Friday, see what tips she will give me to be sure I'm doing everything right.
  22. I rarely weighed myself that early on, but I dug up some of my old posts and found these stats... 1 week...up 5 pounds 7 weeks....down 17 pounds 10 weeks......still stalled at 17 pounds After that I lost fairly steady and only had a few 2-3 week stalls along the way. But as you can see if you fast forward, my slow start does not reflect my overall success..... Down 78 pounds (surgeons goal) at 6 1/2 months Down 88 pounds (personal goal) at 7 1/2 months Currently down 97 pounds at 9 months Just keep on your plan and remember you are in this for the long haul and the numbers on the scale really aren't that important. As for my scale, I don't even own one. I weigh myself once a week on the dog scale at work so I have something to post on here. I weigh fully clothed, with shoes or boots, sometimes in the morning, sometimes after lunch. The accuracy really doesn't matter to me because I measure my success by how I feel, how my clothes fit and NSVs. Good luck!

    No weight loss

Honestly, there are so many reasons. - You could be retaining water (are you near time for your menses?) - You could be constipated (I once lost 4 lbs. in 20 minutes...) - Your body could be readjusting its fluid balance (this is what causes the 3-week stall) Just keep following your plan. It WILL come off.

    Last advice

Immediately after surgery (well, the next day ) : Walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip. Someone said those words to me, and it was my mantra for days! Walking really does make you feel better! Do it as soon and as often as you can! And sip all day long to stay hydrated! Weeks after surgery: Head hunger sucks. I hope you don't get it, but some do. Work through it by staying hydrated and finding the liquid Protein you enjoy the most. When you get cravings, read, walk, knit, do WHATEVER you can to divert your attention to how bad you want a cheeseburger! Realize that this liquid phase doesn't last forever (well, it did for me, but that's another story), and as soon as you start more solid food, the head hunger subsides. Also remember that you really won't feel the restriction from surgery on the liquid stage, so don't worry You will feel it once you start more solid foods. The dreaded 3 week stall will happen. Maybe not right at 3 weeks, but a stall will happen. Don't panic. It's normal. Follow the plan and it will end. Like Lipstick said, take pics to see your progress! You will see although you may not lose on the scale for a couple weeks, you will see the difference in the photos! Good Luck, good healing and congrats on your new life!!

    Difficulty eating

I am 6 weeks post op and experiencing the same thing. I saw my dr a few days ago and was told that as long as I get my protein and fluids in, I am doing fine. they said that some people take a little longer for the swelling to go down so there is no concern at this point. you most likely are experiencing the dreaded 3 week stall. Stick to your program and it will break. hang in there!
