I have had a hard time since a trip to Europe the beggining of Oct. Then of course there was thanksgiving, christmas, new years. I have put on 30 pounds from my lowest weight. I was told by a few people I lost a little too much weight. I have going to loose 20 and see how I look and if my jeans fit. I can't workout right now because I just had a boob job 12/21. I had my trainer put me back in the schedule 1/10. I hope the doc. okays that. It will be 3 weeks. Yesterday and today have been great eating wise. I have broken up my daily food into 6 mini meals. I think this will work well for me. I also started journaling again. Let's hope my motivation continues. I think I'll be in a good spot if I can just put 3-4 good days together. I never want to be fat again! Thanks for listening.

Taking Control of My Health...first steps
Stormie posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello! I am new to this forum. I have decided that I can’t win this weight battle on my own. I need help as I am convinced that I am doing great harm to my health. A few months ago, I knew nothing about banding. I’d heard about gastric bypass but I never really thought of myself as “that overweight” (by the way, I am) and focused on being a failed dieter. I gave up dieting. I only gained the weight back after killing myself to lose it. No more WW, Nutrisystem, Atkins, South Beach, and so on. I’d lose weight with a great deal of effort and gain it back the minute I felt a modicum of success. I learned that I was pre-diabetic about three years ago. Blood fasting sugars about 120 each day. Pre-diabetic – well heck..that’s not so bad. I mean, I am not truly diabetic I told myself. Of course today, that number has jumped to 182 some days. But still under 200! I am not REALLY diabetic! Right? Wrong! I was seeing the gastro doc because I have developed “fatty liver disease”. Isn’t that a pretty name for a disease? Hey folks, I have fatty liver disease (but remember, I am not diabetic, only pre-diabetic!). So now let’s count my co-morbidities – pre-diabetes (just had my Metformin dose increased to 4 tabs), high cholesterol, high blood pressure (just doubled that dose) and fatty liver (my daily martini has changed to an occasional glass of wine but I haven’t stopped eating like a Viking. (no offense to any Vikings out there). What a mess I’ve become. And every visit to the doctors – PCP or specialist, ends with “if you could just lose 10 lbs…” Incidentally, my BMI is 41 and I am 5’7. I wear a 20 to 22 and 1X to 2X. I am a big girl and have been for most of my 58 years though never as big as I am right now. My husband loves me no matter what size I happen to be thank goodness but I know that he wants me to live a long time and that he is worried I will not. My gastro doc mentioned that if by the next time I saw him, I did not lose some weight, I should consider surgery. I think that was the dose of reality I have been waiting for since hearing I was “pre-diabetic” a couple of years ago. This time the words were not as softened as the word “pre” softened diabetes. It was just out there. You are obese and are unable to lose weight and you will die if you don’t change things. After feeling totally shocked that he recognized that I could not fight this battle without help, I began to research my options and found myself here on this website lurking every evening and reading all of your thoughts, prayers, concerns, and successes. When I read between the lines of what you all write however, I see HOPE. You all share hope that things will be better and can be better with a little help. I’d reached the point that there was no hope anymore but now, thanks to you and my gastro doctor, I can see that even at my age, there can be a future without obesity. So, I have taken control of my health and have decided to be banded. I attended the Weight Loss Information Session at Brigham’s and Women’s in early Dec. I scheduled my consultation with Dr Ali Tavakkolizadeh for Jan 21 along with the Nutritionist that day. I have an appt with Dr. Cynthia Worth end of Jan for my weight management behavioral evaluation. I have called Aetna and learned that I am covered for 80% and that there is a 3 month and a 6 month program. I am not sure yet what the difference is between the two programs but most certainly would prefer the 3 month one. I saw my PCP last week and asked for my medical records. All of these appointments were scheduled within one day with little effort. I take it as a sign that success is in my future. Thanks for reading my story. If anyone has experience with Dr Tav, Dr Worth or Faulkner Hospital which is where Dr Tav does this surgery, please write. My thoughts are with all of you fighting this fight. -
Thanks so much for your responce!! This is what I am doing keeping a handle on the problem. I go again next week for a follow up. Guess I just thought with all of these bands in this site maybe someone else might have run into this. Thanks for the time to respond!!

What Are You Buying To Prep?
tabithainbremerton replied to jayeedee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Luckily my dad had previosly had lap band, so I stole his magic bullet. I bought a blender, but haven't used it (I am on week 2 of post-op mushies). My biggest purchase has been a sewing machine, not so I could sew all new skinny clothes, but because I need a NON-EATING hobby. Something to do besides staring at the clock waiting to eat, LOL. So I bought it at 2 weeks post op. Other things bought pre-surgery was just lots of food for liquid and puree phases. I tried all sorts of Proteins including some clear juice ones, which actually sent me into a throwing up fit 2 days after surgery. So I got some already made shakes at costco (Premier brand) and have had one of those every day (yes, even in clear liquid phase.) Good luck! Tabby. -
What Are You Buying To Prep?
Fit in my 60's replied to jayeedee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought protein products, both liquid and powder. Also bought some can soups that I will have to blend the first 2 weeks, but then can eat them the next 2 weeks when my diet changes to soft foods. I also changed my vitamins and calcium to chewables and still looking for liquid fish oil (yuck!) That pill is so huge I'm sure it would get stuck for sure! I'm always so amazed that different doctors give different instructions. Guess it just depends on who you go to. I already have a good blender and sewing machine. The sewing machine could come in handy to take in some clothes, I hope!! Don't want to start buying a lot when I first start to lose. -
I have several size 20 & 22 jeans that are in great shape. Average length. A few lane bryant, some from Target & walmart. I'm going to take them to GoodWill in a few weeks unless someone wants them. I do ask that you pay me for shipping. Please PM me if interested, I won't remember to check in here.

Band Filled Day Of Operation
texas-bandette replied to texas-bandette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Where any of you filled the day of? If so how much? My mom also said that he streesed how well I did in the pre op diet.. Maybe that's why? Not too sure but I will be asking him at my post op appt this week. -
unfortunatly, sugerless does not mean carlorie-less. I would not think in terms of cheating, rather health. Is it healthy to be eating the ice cream. After two weeks, shouldnt you be experimenting with chicken, 3 starches (carbs) a week, veggies, etc. I would talk to your nutritionist and ask where you should be. . hope this helps. Sorry for the misspellings

Tummy Tuck and BL with augmentation question
waterlady posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I love to snow ski and was just wondering when you ladies who have had this combo actually felt like skiing again? The first surgeon I consulted with said that I should be good to go in 4-6 weeks. I do bounce back pretty quickly from things. I was back at work after gastric bypass in 9 days ( I don't have to do any heavy lifting). What do you ladies think? I REALLY want to get this done but I also love to ski... Please give me your opinions. THX! -

two weeks out and results :O(
SParkle replied to guest1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If its any help when I was 2 weeks out I'd only lost 14lbs.... and my start weight was 208lbs so not far from where you were. It does get better, but also be prepared for stalls etc.. it will shift but you've just put your body thru major surgery, plus add to that the reduced calorie intake /massive change in diet and then you'll start to see results once your body gets used to all that. Hang in there.... good luck -
Overwhelmed...
Debbie3sons replied to Sunshineteach79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me two years to figure it out cause I had a couple of people I know that had it done and I wanted to make sure that's what I wanted I also watched how it affected them in eating and mind set it's not for everybody but u REALLY have to set your mind for it since your on this site try the Lapband diet pre op for 2 weeks and see if your ready and DON'T CHEAT, then try the post op Diet it sucks both of them but before you know it , then you might have lost weight on your own and then talk to your Doctor or the lapband surgeon to see if you might be ready or ask if you might be able to see real life people that you can talk to that have had it done and their pics of before and after it might help , and I hoped this suggestion helped. -
Pre-op diet recommendation
bonomofo replied to Bella Luna's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr requires his patients to do a 2 week long liquid diet. His office gave me Optifast Protein Drinks. So everyday I would have 3 Protein Shakes and 1 chicken broth soup. (And some sf ice pops, and sf pudding, and crystal light) If you buy Protein drinks make sure you look at the ingredients.. you want as low as sugar and carbs that you can get and the more protein the better. The atkins protein shakes are a good example of that. Another tip is to keep drinking them along with the other sf items throughout the day... to keep you from getting a huge craving. I'm not going to lie... it's not the easiest thing to do, but it will make you healthier for the surgery. Good luck!! :huh2: -
What do i need in my cupboards and fridge when i get home?
Boolainie replied to Ninni's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been advised ,as I will be on pureefied/liquid diet for 4 weeks, to cook and purée stuff now and either make it in ice cube trays, as 3 cubes will be enough for a meal so you can just defrost them as you want them. I have puréed cauliflower with low fat cream cheese mixed in,yams, parsnips and carrots, all separately, I have done the same with cod and put a white sauce with it then I can just add a cube of mash and a cube of veggies. You can purify meat ,chicken, and fish then add gravy or sauce with them to make them more liquids. So at least I haven't got to worry about mu husband trying to do everything bless him. What do i need in my cupboards and fridge when i get home?
James Marusek replied to Ninni's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After RNY gastric bypass surgery, your meal volume size is so small that you will not need very much food. The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. Food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes. Your taste buds may change after surgery. Food, Water, fluids and protein shakes that you had no problem consuming prior to surgery may taste different, even revulsive. So be willing to experiment until you find those that you can tolerate. Experimentation is the key. As you work through the various stages, each stage has its series of changes. Have a pill crusher/pill splitter on hand because you may find it difficult to swallow in the beginning. -
Band yesterday horrible hiccups
CherieRyde replied to twztdzsgrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Banded August 3, 2010 - help me please
ardelia replied to wicked's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PCP says that I have a food addiction...perhaps you have the same? He prescribed bupropion for me and I have noticed a big difference. I started on two tablets and then went up to three. He told me that I could go back down if I wanted to, but I could go back up if needed. I did go back to two and I did notice a difference - obsessing about food!!! I popped back up to three and - POW! - away went those obsessive thoughts. Pharmaceuticals can be a wonderful thing!! -

Any Second Thoughts while on pre-op Diet?
rking replied to tcshrink's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Any Second Thoughts while on pre-op Diet?
mrs kaje replied to tcshrink's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, I was never remotely tempted to cancel surgery just because I didn't like the taste of the shakes. You're not on them for life; it's two weeks. -
I was sleeved on 4/11/16 so I might be jumping the gun. I am now 13 days post surgery. The first week I lost 13lbs. And Then on day 9 l woke up and the scale said I had gained 4 lbs. This was the same time that I was finally able to get down my 64 ozs of Water and my 60 grams of protien. This week I feel great and have been active walking and bike riding. I've stuck to my liquid diet and made sure not to drink my calories. I've been a model patient and im confused. Does anyone have a similar experience or any insite to offer. Im beyond confused. I have my 2 week appt Monday and am nervous my doctor will think I've cheated. Sent from my LGMS631 using the BariatricPal App
