    Calling all Exercise Buddies!

I am a 5 day a week at the gym girl and this was a major question I had for my doc when I made the decision to have band removed and revised to sleeve. He wants me walking from day 1 and then aerobics (cardio classes, spinning) at 3 weeks and than I can resume strength training, abs included at 4-5 weeks post-op depending on how I feel. I became an exercise fanatic during this past year with my band and I swear, that is the only reason I've lost any weight! Good luck.

    Three Year Follow Up Apptl

Thank you, Lynda for the great post. I've been away from BP for awhile and hopped on to do some research regarding ulcers. I was also sleeved through Kaiser but changed insurance. I didn't know they did revisions for ulcers, nor did I know that ulcers were a long term effect. OR I did know and simply forgot. Either way- thanks for the post!
  3. Hi Dan, congratulations! I had lapband to bypass revision and similar lack of pain and complications; I wish the same for you!

    Dr. Garcia vs. Dr. Aceves?

Surgery next Friday, May 10th Dr F. Garcia $5,500 - Revision band to sleeve. includes everything except airfare.
  5. I also went to Dr.Aceves. I had my band to sleeve revision March 22/13. I picked him because of his experience, but also because of the longer hospital stay. I am glad I did and it was the perfect amount of time in hospital for me. I wouldn't have wanted to leave sooner. I have had several other surgeries in Mexico (band, plastics) and in Canada (c-sections, 1 week stay with each which felt like forever, gallbladder) and had a great experience with Dr.Aceves and his staff. If I had to choose again, I would make the same choice.

    Anyone having surgery 7-15?

Ok buddies revision surgery went well. Minor to no pain but a lot of soreness on left side. Have been walking a lot but can't manage that breathing tube. I'm so ready to go home.
  7. I was fine to be alone day after surgery. I was up walking and had no complications and I was a revision from band to bypass.

    Endoscopy- is it a must-do?

My EGD was nothing. I’d never had surgery before so I was terrified of being put under. Ha! I was in and out in 15 minutes! I remember NOTHING after they said something about we’re giving you something that will relax you. I was clean so I was good for the sleeve which I was sooo glad about. I absolutely did not want the bypass. Yes, my surgeon requires it. Plus, when I went in for surgery, he simply uses the endoscope as the bougie. So my tummy is quite a bit smaller than most surgeons create. It’s a 32. A pretty tight 32. Here’s a nifty little comparison of bougie sizes. After I had such an amazing and easy time with the EGD, I never panicked about surgery. Not one bit! I have terrible anxiety so I guess knowing I would be ok being put under made the actual surgery a breeze. I’d say if your insurance covers it, go for it. Even though I did not want the bypass, I’d rather have had the EGD come back with the results that told my team I needed the bypass than have to go through a revision surgery later on.

    Revision completed

Revisions are different for everyone. I had a lot of anxiety afterwards because of not having restriction like I had with the sleeve. It has taken me a long while to finally get use to it. Part of that anxiety was me thinking I would have problems with regain because of not having the restriction. I dump and get violently ill from eating wrong thing or too much food, so I am very careful now. You will lose the weight just make sure you follow the plan like you did with VSG. I was at goal with my revision but I lost 12 lbs the first month. I weighed in on Dr scale yesterday at 157. I am down 23 lbs and holding. I will say this. It is a lot easier for me to maintain my weight now then with the VSG and I stay 10 to 15 lbs lower then with VSG. Good luck and PM me anytime
  10. Hello I just joined this group today, I did not know they had an app for gastric bypass. I I had the RNY almost two and a half years ago. But about 2 to 3 months out I was already having difficulties, constant vomiting food would get stuck, my pouch felt like it was going to fall, as if it was being held by a thread. My husband was in the army and got out of active duty two months after I had surgery, so when we moved I was unaware that other doctors don't like to see patients that had surgery by other doctors. I finally found a doctor at about 7 to 8 months out, I was so excited. Although I had to do things on my own and learn from the book I was provided for 5 to 6 months. The doctor I found was clueless about RNY, he didn't even know what blood work to run to check on my Protein and Vitamin intake. He put everything off, finally did an endoscopy and found a hiatal hernia. I told him that I also had horrible acid reflux, I've never had reflux before which he found acid in my pouch. He told me he was going to put a camera in my pouch to see how often acid would come up. Well 6 months later nothing, i was taken to the ER for vomiting pure acid for 2 days and couldn't eat. The ER did an upper endoscopy also, they found an ulcer in my pouch, along with swelling along the line where my intestines and pouch connect. They also found ischemia in my pouch meaning not enough blood flow. They told me to contact my gastric dr. And that I needed a revision immediately. Well I spoke with my doctor and he said that we could not do a revision right now due to the fact that my body wouldn't be able to handle it and I could die on the table. I started bawling and asked him why he waited so long for it to get this far and he tried to make it sound like it was my fault my husband was so angry. Now that I am almost two-and-a-half years out I am looking for a new gastric dr. But it almost seems impossible. I have a doctor a primary doctor that is helping me search for a bypass Dr. due to the fact of what I'm going through, I black out a lot my last blackout was in the shower and I hit my head on the toilet and then later on that day I blacked out again and skinned and bruised both my knees. Abdominal pain, I have pain management, black out after cleaning for an hour. I can't be outside in the sun for more than 30 minutes I will either black out or get blurred vision. I'm always in the ER for rehydration I drink Pedialyte Water and G2 beverages. There's times to where I can't even eat , I blame the second doctor for it because I told him about it when I first became his patient at 7 or 8 months out. So I fired him, now I'm looking for another gastric bypass doctor, he didn't even know what blood work to do to check for all my labs. I have 1 day of energy then sleep 3-4 days , I get dizzy spells , headaches, blackouts, blurred vision, my teeth are rotting from the gums up I'm trying to find another doctor to give me vitamin shots do to malabsorption I used to weigh 258 pounds and then I got down to 125 got back up to 145 then for some reason I couldn't eat and had the runs of it looked like bile for 7 days and got back down to 128 now I'm trying to gain weight again. I can't exercise due to doctors notes, I can't work due to doctors notes and I can't see a psychologist due to the fact that they can't help me because mentally I'm fine it's my physical situation that I need psychologist. I can't get a revision until the ulcers heal I now have 2, and the swelling goes down. If I have a revision and I get ulcers again my next revision will be removing my pouch and conecting my small intestines directly to my esophagus. Does anyone else have anything like this that they may be going through? I asked my doctor if I had P.O.T.S. because I match all but 1. Racing heart beat. My lowest blood pressure was 95/36 my highest was 132/98 due to I felt horrible that day. Sent from my SM-N910T3 using the BariatricPal App

I’ve been approved for a revision

hi there question, so you had the sleeve, then they did the REVISION to the BYPASS?

    Revision completed

Well well well, its been 1 year ago today had had my revision to bypass !! I weighed in this morning at 154 !!! I still am on my dexilant 60mg for the GERD. I talk half in morning and half at night and it keeps me from burning. I dont see myself ever being able to get off of it at this point but that is okay because my last EDG showed esophagitis D down to an A. I had so much anxiety about doing this revision because I liked my sleeve so much and I missed the restriction I had with it. I wasnt sure how I would maintain my weight loss without it. Well I will tell you that the dumping has been no joke for me and I have to watch it. I also think my metabolism had to have changed and the malabsorption of calories did something also. I started at 180 the day I had the revision and lost 12lbs that first month. I lost 25lbs around 7 months which was 151lbs total and I started at 311. I have pretty much maintained without too much effort, which I never could have done with VSG. I ate around 800 calories just to stay under 170 !!! I would have gone with RNY to begin with had I known how much easier it would have been for me. Good luck to all of you on your journey !!

Congrats !!! The recovery time was better I thought with the revision. The pain was worse though after surgery. Glad you are doing well and getting all your protein needs met.

    Revision completed

I am having a revision and hernia repair on June 19th, I gained about 50 pounds since my lowest weight after sleeve surgery. I feel like I’m always hungry and wondering if I’ll lose more weight and feel restriction again after my revision? I am getting revised to fix GERD but would like to reach my goal weight which I never did with my sleeve.

    Just had revision

Congratulations on your revision! That's awesome that the surgery went so well and you are managing the pain well. I want to get my lap band removed & get the gastric bypass at the same time. The surgeon's office that I called said the doctor only does one surgery at a time. I'd have to wait to get the band removed and wait for three months before he would do the gastric bypass. I don't want to go through two surgeries and my insurance will only pay for one surgery "per lifetime". If you don't mind sharing, what did your surgeon charge for the two procedures? I've read it can cost around 10-12k to remove the band and 20-25k for a gastric bypass. I'm sure it has to be cheaper to do both at the same time then do the two operations separately. Thanks for any info you can provide! Holly Sent from my Pixel 4a using BariatricPal mobile app

    September 8 Sleeves Thread

Congrats to all of you!!!?? My band to sleeve revision was successful. The band had not done (even after 10 years) too much damage nor scaring, thank god!! The surgery was only 2:30 hrs. No pain so I did not have to take any pain meds till this morning. But the nausea was horrible. I actually had to vomit twice yesterday and I still feel sick. But other than that I am fine. We did it yeeeaaah!!!

Looking for Sleeve Buddy for Dec 7th.

My lap-band to gastric sleeve revision surgery was on November 20th. I had to do a 2-week pre-op diet consisting of mostly Protein liquids along with a salad each day. Everything went great with surgery besides having a seizure at the hospital!!! I had constant nausea the entire first week after surgery, but it's better now. I also try to walk every day even though I still don't have very much energy. My biggest craves, believe it or not, are apples, bananas, tuna, and pizza. 3 out of 4 ain't bad I guess. Lol. I am now 3 weeks post op and have lost 30 pounds. It's a decent start, but I still have a long way to go. Good luck to everyone!!!

    Acid Reflux

But if it gets worse I would need a revision to bypass correct? I don't want to have 2 surgeries. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. No they replaced my band. Since I had success with the band insurance wouldn't cover a sleeve because I am not considered a weight loss patient anymore according to insurance. The insurance covered and approved a revision for medical reasons due to the slip.
  21. I was revised in KCMO self pay at KC Bariatrics. I felt the price was reasonable and they offer finance options.

    LapBand to Sleeve weight loss?

i did not have a revision. Just the sleeve. I am 6 weeks post op. Here are my stats so far on what i have lost. of course some are faster, Some are slower.
  23. Round 3, first steps I spent part of this morning talking to the new surgeon, Dr. S. As I mentioned earlier, Dr. M. is a good guy and good surgeon, but he only performs banding. I no longer have confidence in the band -for me-, and so I am looking into alternative choices. We discussed the VSG procedure, and between the two of us decided that would be the best choice. The other option was the bypass, but honestly I think it would be overkill given my current physical condition. I'm overweight, but only by maybe 30 lbs. I'd look like a cancer victim if I did the bypass now! Things are a bit more complicated because of the insurance company and the role they are playing in all this. They have approved a removal of the band, and so that is going to reduce the costs somewhat from the cash price of the VSG. The procedure is normally around 11K, which I cannot pay for at this time. I can swing the 8K or so that this should turn out costing. It will -hurt-, but I can cover it. If I consider Dr. M. was quoting 4K for the new band, it's not all that bad. Of course, that's the same kind of false logic that people use to justify expensive purses "on sale" The next step is for their office to start talking to the insurance company and resubmit for the revision. I have no idea on timelines yet for the surgery, recovery, etc. I do know that I will be out for a week, and given that I'm a contractor on a day rate, that's going to bite. Ah well. This all beats being FAT again, and it's readily apparent that without the assistance of some sort of restriction I will again top 300 lbs.
  24. WLS, take 3 Well, the word came down today, and I am now scheduled for VSG surgery Oct 21. The insurance company is picking up about half the tab because of the lap-band removal; the rest of the procedure comes out of my pocket. This looks to be an interesting and different path than the one I've been on, and hopefully ends up in a much better place. I still think the lap-band is a great procedure for those who can cope with it, but my body simply insisted on being in that 2%. (Lap-band 05/2007, high 292, low 178, slip, revision, slip, current 220 and headed up)
  25. Oh my gosh, thank you all for such amazing support! Hearing the word "inspiration" makes me so happy because for so long, I looked on this website/app researching and reading success stories and was never really sure if I could do it like those people. As for your revision, I'm sure that can be quite scary worrying that you won't lose the weight, keep it off, etc... BUT, you have to think positively! The minute I got my surgery date, I found this newfound hope that I had never had before! I've lost crazy amounts of weight over the years but could never sustain the weight loss, but with the sleeve, it is like HEAVEN! I can now eat anything (I don't obviously, but it doesn't make me sick if I have a bite of something, however, I get full after just a few bites. Perfect example: sushi is my favorite food. After surgery, I felt like I was going to have to give it up for forever! I used to be able to eat 3-4 rolls just by myself... That's like 24-30 pieces!!! Now, I can't eat more than 2 pieces of sushi and I feel the same fullness as I would have before surgery! Best of luck to each of you who has a surgery date, waiting for one, or those post-op like myself! I posted a pic earlier, but will post it on this thread in case anyone is interested!
