    Almost 6 months out

Amazing!!!!!!!You look fantastic!!! What is your diet routine ?I am to be revised to RNY at the end of month....nervous but excited. What are your fav shakes...how much protein are you getting?
  2. According to the latest statistics I could find, in 2014, there were 190,000 bariatric surgeries in the United States. 100,000 were sleeves, 50,000 RNY GB and the rest was a mix of bands and revisions from bands to RNY GP, which oddly enough if I read the data correctly, more conversions from band to bypass are done than bands. The sleeve is a quick and easy operation with minimal complications. The problem is that it is still (in medical terms) new. There is no 10 year data or studies. The RNY GP was developed in France in the 1960's. It is a well understood procedure, that has been honed over the years to be as effective as possible. Read the history on it, it's actually amazing all the revisions the surgery has gone through over the years.
  3. Had my 8 week post op check yesterday. Lost 27.7 lbs in 8 weeks???????? so happy. The lap band revision to sleeve surgery was the best choice. I feel so much better. I am in the onederlands.

    I won't regret this...right?

10 days out for me. I had similar thoughts prior to having the surgery. I know I need this tool to help me revise and develop good eating habits, lose weight, get healthy and be able to do things I'm limited to due to wait. My experience has been very positive. The incisions are tiny and my pain was minimal. I was on painkillers for 3 days and Tylenol for 1. It is wonderful to feel full after drinking such a small amount. Yes, some of the shakes are horrible. I've found mixing the powder with soy milk and letting it sit for a while really helps. Nashua Nutritions sells samples of the majority of powders. I bought a bunch to try before buying a big container. You're going to do just fine. Waiting is the worst.????

    December 8th Sleevers......

Me too! This journey has been complex for me between the band erosion, gastric bleed, and now the revision. I feel for you but you are so totally safe in the hospital --lay back and heal.
  8. Had a very tough couple of days following surgery. He did a lot of scar revision in surgery. I am better today a little bit. Doc says I'm fine--I'd hate to see "not fine." ☺️

Let's hear it for the band!

Thanks JWM. Feels like we've been around awhile now. Glad to have cyber chats with people who really understand. I'm thankful I did not have to ever have replacement or revision. I think I do better with a very small amount in my band... Harder on my head tho.... Easier on my throat and stomach ????????That is the dilemma
  11. How long ago was your band removed? I found it very hard to stop gaining weight after removal. I would go for it to help you maintain. You won't lose too much. It's a revision that is why it was approved.
  12. I came home on Monday. Praise God! ! Had some very bad bad gas n port pains, soooo very bad, ugh. Still have some but I'm walking, sitting up, using my spirometer. Its been 2 years since I've swallowed wo it getting stuck b4 hitting my sleeved belly. Now after revision to bypass, i feel like a new person, God has been gracious to me and my surgeons are well blessed. I'm 5 days out on liquids, which I'm tired of but hopefully on the 18th, soft foods, so yippie to a small Christmas of soft foods since i had to forego thanksgiving due to 2week preop! Im most excited and thankful. Praying you all are doing well, happy holidays and ty 4 prayers:)) Sleeved: 12/30/13 Sw 236.8, Gw140, was 150, then 167.8 on 11/21/15. Revision surgery : SW 165, 2 wk preop: 157, post surgery 159.6 CW: 152.2. GW: 140

    Denied

I am quite aware people go to mexico every year to get this surgery done. And that surgery still costs more than my OOP. There are many sides to things and you don't know my whole life story. So to insinuate that because I can't afford it next year that I'm not committed is rude and unnecessary. If you need to know I am on disability right now due to having a revision of my cervical fusion . So I cannot work and I don't get paid my full paycheck being on disability with my job. I am on my last legs with my job since they want me back to work and I can't being I am in a neck brace and can't move my neck. I am STILL paying off a medical bill from January which applied to my OOP because I had a lot of problems due to my neck before we found out the issues. I am getting married in October out of the country so I need to pay for a destination wedding. I could ask my parents for the money but I am 28 years old and I am trying to be an adult, and this was just rude. You do not know my story or why I wouldn't be able to afford. I commend anyone who does self pay. But I myself cannot when I am going to be starting a new life with someone. Thanks for your input.
  14. I am revision from band to sleeve in Dallas next Tues, 12/15. Nervous but eager to get it done!

    Embrace the Stall

Since we are all in the stall together! Punintended! Do you think there is any evidence or studies done on patients who had revision surgery from lap band to RNY or any other type of revision and stalling?
  17. After 5 years with band, I discovered that I had a dilated esophagus leading to revision. I was lucky enough that I didn't have extreme surgical scars or adhesions and the doctor was able to do both band removal and sleeve in one surgery. Just the fact that you have been successful at maintaining your weight speaks volumes. You are obviously active with exercising and keeping the correct diet. Continue what you are doing after removal and you will be fine. Unless, there is a medical reason, I'll bet that your doctor will probably do the sleeve before 1 year. Most doctors will wait 3 - 6 months of healing from the band removal before sleeving. I'm a little surprised that you have to wait 1 year. I would ask more about the wait. As far as my esophagus and healing, I am 7 months out and all my post-op appointments have gone well. Things must have gone back to normal with my esophagus because before discovering the dilated esophagus with band, I was able to eat much more with my band and doctor tells me that my esophagus was functioning as a 2nd stomach. 1/2 cup of anything that I eat is all I can handle, thus, I think my esophagus no longer is functioning as a 2nd stomach. Some words of encouragement: Should you have to wait 1 year out, the wait will be worth it! I know that I repeat myself on most of my posts, but, here goes again, there is a HUGE difference between band and sleeve. The sleeve lifestyle is so much better, IMO. Hang in there, you will do fine. jake
  18. I did a revision from band to sleeve back in 5/19/15..i was 226 pounds. Band had slipped out of place and had to come out. Insurance approved it no questions asked. At first i was hesitant because of the fear of getting denial. Weight started dropping slowly since my target goal weight was not much to drop considering my height of 6"1 bmi should be at around 25. Currently going almost 7 months post op and weighing 179 pounds. I truly thought the weight loss would be much slower but i guess is all about how body anatomy truly is different from men/women.. Weight will drop for sure just need to keep on and be patient. There are days were it may feel like is not gonna work but it truly does.. Hang in there and this forum is hear to help you in times of need..

    Highmark BCBS

I have Highmark BCBS as well. I am a band to sleeve revision. No problem with them at all. Completed everything that the hospital wanted me to do prior to surgery. Paperwork was submitted and approval came a week later. So far, insurance has paid for everything, but I got a bill from my hospital for ten grand, stating that my insurance is refusing to pay for the lap band removal. I told them that is wrong, I have two approval letters, have talked with insurance multiple times prior to surgery and have read my policy coverage front to back and sideways. There's nothing in there stated that for a revision, they will only pay to have 85% of my stomach removed, but they won't pay for my leaking lap band to be removed. That's part of the revision surgery. My band was leaking, it is physically broken, we have the fluoroscopy results to prove it.The girl I talked to looked into it and said that the coding it correct but it looks like it was misworded on the hospital's end. So, waiting for billing management to look into it and hopefully get it corrected and resubmitted to Highmark BCBS. We are switching insurance companies in January to United Health Care and my company decided to drop bariatric surgery coverage.
  20. So had my band to sleeve surgery on the 3rd. Must say I was not expecting to still have pain a week out. All my incisions feel pretty good except where the port had previously been. I now have a very large hole in my stomach (yes it is stitched shut) but looks terrible when I turn to the side. I hope it looks normal once all the swelling goes down ???? . I have been on clear liquids for 3 weeks and hopefully will be moving to full liquids tomorrow after my Dr appt. I am happy to say I am down 27 pounds in 3 weeks!!!
  21. Deb - the one piece of advice I can give you is that when you are searching or find a surgeon make sure you ask them if they are a micro-surgeon. I have not had plastics yet but my mom did and had a horrific experience because her surgeon was not a micro-surgeon. She had to have 10 years of revisions and corrections because the surgeon thought he was better than he was. Make sure you ask!!
  22. I picked a goal that is 60 pounds less than surgery weight. Not sure if I will get there or whether I will want to but time will tell. My surgery was October 1st (revision from lapband) and already I am almost halfway to goal. No complaints
  23. I had the sleeve and am happy I did, but I will say that Dr. Fetter has a very impressive program and that he is a skilled surgeon. I am from the US and had surgery in the US, but if I had lived in SA at the time I think I would have chosen him and bypass because of the quality of the hospital, his skill as a surgeon, and his team. I thought I was going to have to have a revision to bypass because of very severe GERD from the sleeve, and I went through a lot of testing and consultations with him before eventually deciding against a revision. Even if you are set on having the sleeve, it might be worth it to check out him and his staff. South Africa is not the most bariatric surgery friendly country, and follow-up care is so extremely important. Just a thought!

    Bad gas

I had my revision 7 weeks ago. All is well except I have ungodly flatulence. It is a new development (last 4 days) and I had just begun eating broccoli and other cooked veggies. I also eat cheese daily. And wheat thins... It is so bad my bum is burning. I read charcoal and GASX might help? Anyone else have this curse? Any ideas on how to treat it? Thanks.
