  1. I know that I can have strained Cream of Chicken soup, but what about tomato soup or cream of broccoli soup? The cream of broccoli looked like it just had the small pieces of broccoli - if I were to put it in a blender to make sure it was mush, is that acceptable or should I hold off? I don't want to cause damage to my sleeve (I am 6 days out) but I am looking for more variety than my pudding, yogurt and protein shakes.

    Trouble getting protein

If you blend it anything is probably going to be tolerated. The sugar free ice cream still might have too many calories to be a good choice, I think it's something like 70 calories for 2g of Protein per service. A yogurt smoothie might work well for you. The tuna blend looks fine, keep an eye on the amount of mayo and relish you add since those are just extra calories. Ricotta cheese and cottage cheese are also really good for the pureed stage. There's a recipe floating around for a ricotta bake which is basically a lasagna without noodles that I mostly lived off of during the pureed stage.

9 days post-op yogurt and peanut butter???

PB2 is amazing! I make a shake with PB2, honey, strawberries, banana, double scoop of whey, almond milk and Greek yogurt. So much protein and vitamins and then I freeze it to be “ice cream”

    Today's menu

All, Here is what I ate yesterday: Breakfast: Coffee, CarbMaster Peach Cottage Cheese Snack: PowerCrunch bar Lunch: Leftover Pot Roast (3 oz) and one small red potato Snack: Two Good low fat, low sugar yogurt Dinner: Leftover bean/beef casserole (1/2 serving) Snack: CarbSmart Vanilla Ice Cream Nutrition: 1,188 calories, 85g Protein, 56g Carbs, 17g Fiber, 67g Fat My program has me targeting 1,200 calories per day. I weigh pretty much everything that isn't packaged and track it all in MyFitnessPal. How does this compare to a typical day? I am 8 weeks out and have been on "normal food" for the last 3 weeks. It is sometimes a struggle to get in near 1,200 calories, that is why i spread everything out in 5 "meals". My weight loss has really slowed, but I am doing very well staying in the guidelines so I think it will pick back up.
  5. Today, March 15th makes one month since my gastric plication with Dr. Ortiz at OCC in Tijuana Mexico. here is a link to my lengthy post from the start http://www.sleeveplicationtalk.com/topic/191-day-4-and-counting-after-gastric-sleeve-plication-surgery/ There are so many reasons to Celebrate and some lingering unwarranted causes for concern so here I go. Since my last post, I have dropped down to 160lbs, I fluctuate based on Water retention but never more than 162 which is thrilling. During this time i have travelled quite a bit. Much of which has been a true test of this surgery and my will power. WOW Mind over Matter! insane. I went to San Fran with a group of friends of which very few knew about my surgery and i am not going to lie, it was hard. I could only eat Soups at the time and soft foods, such as yogurts and heavier soups. I spoke to the doc about wine and he said if i could tolerate creamy soups that a little bit of wine would be ok but to test it out little by little and see how i felt. I didn't drink much, i have never been a drinker and on our first tour stop i had maybe max 1oz of wine, it went down fine but i just did not crave it. instead to participate i held an ice cold glass of water which i sipped throughout the excursion. The wineries only charged for half the tour price since i did not consume wine. San Francisco and Napa were a great destination because CA is so healthy in general - lots of great soups, juice bars and healthy spots. Unfortunately not all places had a plethora of options for Soup, i was pretty OVER the Clam Chowder by my 3rd cup, but something is better than nothing. One of my biggest tricks i can share is my CUP OF NOODLES in my purse at all times...when we were driving from San Fran down the pacific coast highway, there were not many soup places to stop at and we simply stopped, got some hot water from a starbucks for tea and there i was well on my way to consuming something to hold me over. The anxiety i had from eating in front of others still exists, especially those that do not know. They just don't understand how i am full, knowing my eating habits. As an example today i went to my have lunch salad spot, pre-surgery 134andhappy i would have half a chicken sandwich on french baguette, a cup of broccoli and cheese, and half a salad or a variation of that without the soup. I would feel satisfied and still a pretty healthy meal. Today, i could barely eat half a cup of the broccoli with cheese i was soo full and there in front of me was my friend wondering WTF is happening here. Another post op anxiety factor, drinking and eating. I have to wait 1hr pre and post either eating or drinking and its insane, at lunch i gulped water only to realize half way and spitting it back out. I had to pretend i had a lemon seed in my water. Horrible. I travelled again last week to CT, that was not as easy as CA because it does not have such a large variety of healthy food stores and juice bars. Instead there is a dunkin donuts or starbucks in every corner. The worst part of this trip was the event i was participating in on Sunday had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING i could eat, no soup, no mashed potatoes. Here we go again, thank goodness for my handy dandy cup of noodles. added water and voila. held me over until i could get to the nearest soup destination. So here we are one month later. I started back up with my trainer on Tuesday and i am most excited about that. My weight loss had definitely been at a standstill meaning not as aggressive as the first few weeks but still losing little by little - and i predict with my workouts even more to come soon. I am glad it is coming off slowly, i am scared of sagging skin and just not looking healthy, rather a small version of my old self and that is not what i went to this extreme to accomplish. I want it all and i will have it all. Healthy mind and body. My one month anniversary present came last night, when i went to ZARA at the mall and bought 2 new outfits. even though i have not wanted to buy anything since i know i will continue to lose weight, but nothing fits anymore, i look like I'm wearing borrowed clothes sometimes. But both pants i bought were a size 8!~~ OMMGGGG SOO HAPPY. The jackets are still a large but lets face it ZARA is practically made for adolescent teens, i am just thrilled to fit so well into the clothes. Today i wore a stunning fitted light pink jacket with my skinny black trousers SIZE 8! and my light pink heels. Everyone had something today even the president of our company stopped me and complimented me. I could not be happier, and although i do worry about the progression i remind myself HEY its only been a month. You did not gain the weight in a month. I am finally tolerating foods now, i eat tuna and some very light low carb crackers...what cracks me up is that after three crackers with Tuna i am STUFFED beyond compare. I giggle to myself and i definitely have a lot of restriction. The only thing is that i do need to eat every 2-3hrs. No if ands or buts. Concerns i live with: How long can i sustain this behavior of not eating or drinking at the same time and waiting an hour pre or post? I went to get bloodwork, bc i worry about my Vitamin depletion and thyroid/metabolic condition Now is the real test of time, when the options are open as to what i can eat. Ensuring that i stick to a heavy Protein lo-carb diet is imperative. Dehydration- i know i am not drinking enough water, i am trying its just not that easy. I get full or i have to wait and then i forget This is all for now. Would love to hear from others with the same concerns or experiences. I have been setting my alarm for the times i can drink something after a meal. Any tricks of the trade? recipes? For those considering this surgery, please do your homework, listen to the conditions that you will have to live with for the rest of your life because even though this is reversible, why would you ever want to go through the surgery again? But if i was sitting next to my old self right now and she was asking me for advise - i would say DO IT! HEAD FIRST NO HELMET! Because the high i am on right now, fitting into smaller clothes, feeling great, lots of physical stamina and getting such a large amount of feedback and encouragement from friends and family is soo worth it. and the experience with my Dr. has been nothing short of exceptional. They are always available to answer my questions - first class all the way. I am ready for the next chapter in this challenge and eager to accept this as the norm-waiting for the moment when its just "eh" a part of my life and i don't have to think about it as much. My next goal for month 2 is drop to a size 6 at least by April 28th, develop healthy athletic mind and body. Will keep you posted. Next Wednesday i can finally eat normal foods! As always, this post is meant only to encourage and personal recount of my experiences. I am neither a medical professional or have the ability to provide medical advise. I hope you read this post with love and that i did not offend anyone. Sending you all my love and on our way to 134andHappy!

    I'm Losing My Mind

I ate a lot of chicken in the early stages. I baked the chicken breast and then ran it through the food processor to get the consistency I wanted and needed. The variety came from how I seasoned it. Comfort food=a "sauce" of thickened chicken bullion and a tiny bit of mashed potato. Mexican=taco seasoning+plain yogurt in place of sour cream. Italian=a little red sauce plus mozzarella or parmesan. Other options included soy or teryaki sauce or Cajun seasoning. I think you get the idea. I was able to satisfy my taste buds. When I first started preparation for WLS, I was of the mindset that I was not going to weigh food or track intake. Although I already had a pretty good idea of what portion sizes were supposed to look like, tracking and weighing have made a huge improvement in making sure I'm getting the suggested amounts of food. I use Lose It for tracking. The basic version is free and used it for months. I upgraded to premium during a sale but I don't really use the extra features. I think you'll get many opinions on what people choose to use. It's just a matter of what you like.

    ABC -- May 2007 Chat

Doesn't it mean August Band Club? We started the group when we were all banded in Aug. 2006. Of course, we welcome anyone to join our discussions, but that's the origin of the name. Pelo, First of all, we all lose at different rates and as long as the scale/clothes size, etc. are going the right direction overall, I try to stay happy with my progress. I went almost 2 months only losing a couple of pounds. Maybe it is because my BMI was on the "low" side to begin with. Maybe my body liked that weight. Right now I'm starting to think that my scale is "stuck" because I have been doing a LOT of exercise and the pounds are not coming off even though I am not eating more than I used to. But again, my body is smaller, needs less calories at rest (apparently I have NO metabolism because I swear I eat less than 1000 calories per day and based on my weight, I should need about 1,400 if I didn't even get out of bed all day!!!). I know I shouldn't complain b/c I am very close to goal and really very happy with my band. But, I do understand your frustration. I'm going to start writing down everything I eat and drink to make sure I'm not "losing" calories during the day. Hang in there -- eventually it will come off. Like others have said -- re-evaluate what you are eating. Damn that self-honesty thing! I found it helpful to have a pretty standard eating plan during most of my weight loss -- a Protein shake for Breakfast, Soup for lunch, and either a small meal or even just some cheese and yogurt for dinner. It was LOW calorie!! Hope this helps some. J-

    Am I a pig...

Alright so I know that self loathing and hating myself is what got me here. I would over eat, be mad at myself and eat more. So look here is what I am looking/begging someone to help me with. I log everything I eat in a day and I want some feed back please. I had surgery May 30th and I was an open surgery, and on Clear liquids for a month. It took me a while to heal and I feel almost 100% better. So I have had one 3.5cc fill in a 7cc band. I have some restriction, but not nearly as much as I thought I would. Below are a few examples of my food logs...feedback? Thoughts? Help? Thanks everyone.. July 21 I can tuna with lite mayo 9 crackers -whole wheat low fat and sodium 1tsp Peanut Butter 1/2 cup potatoes, 3oz of pork and a handfull of carrots raw July 23 1/2 cup all bran Cereal with 1% milk 3 oz chicken baked 1 piece of bread and 1/4 cup hummas 6 cooked prawns 1/2 cup no noddle lasagna 1oz smoked salmon july 27 1 cup allbran strawberry cereal with 1% milk 1/2 canned pear 1 cup cottage cheese 1 individual yogurt 2 baby potatoes 4 oz porkchop 3 snack packs - through the day 100 cal or less each July 29th 1 cup tortilini with tomatoe sauce 3 oz chicken 1/2 piece garlic bread 1 cup of snack mix 1/4 cup turkey rice mix 10 carrots raw with 1/4 cup hummas Let me say I work day and night shifts as a nurse and we have had company in and out of our place for the last two weeks. It sure as heck isn't as much as I ate before the band that is for sure...bigmac large coke large fries and 10 nuggests all in one sitting, but I just need either reassurance that i am ok, or a firm yelling at! I don't know, I wish things were more black and white. I booked a fill for this thursday, i am not sure if I am messing with a good thing or if it is what i need...help any feedback would be appriciated.. shannongetsslim
  11. At the airport I go for a sandwich Usually they have somewhere with deli. Here at Newark they make huge sandwiches and I order one. Have them wrap the 2 haves separately First half I remove the break and eat the deli meats for lunch. I keep the other half for later on in the travel day. Many places at airport also have yogurts, some fruits and veggie packs In a pinch - like today- I went to starbucks and grabbed an egg salad sandwich and just removed 1 piece of the multigrain bread and ate the other half.
  12. I am a bit over six weeks out and finding some foods I use to eat and enjoy I am have problems digesting or just don't have a taste for any more. Foods such as oat meal, okra, Water melon, bake chops, just to mention a few. I was advised after sleeve surgery patients would have to learn how eat again. They are very much correct. food now is an adventure, learning what is healthy and nutritious. Reading labels, going to restaurants and ordering from the child plate or at best splitting an order from the menu. Leaning what to eat, what not eat, how much, how to chew, how slow to eat are just a few new ways of the sleeve patient. A few months ago I knew nothing of Greek yogurt, whey Protein, and blender bottles. Now it’s a way of life for me. What's most important is to be a success, I must adjust my attitude to meet the challenges bariatric sleeve surgery and how food affects my new stomach. A new point of view and a mind-set toward life and food have made this man 40 pounds smaller with 30 more to go. And that’s great for myself and loves ones. Comments please! Lash
  13. Whoever started the Loser club here it still to this day cracks me up and it is such a Oxy Moran statement. As we loose we become winners! Now that's a fact Jack. So for all you new people less then say 8 Months and who are freaked out about the holidays and what is going on! Read below Veterans feel free to add to this thread Lets start with you are in the same journey all of us did or are doing, My Journey was rough the first few months, the head games, the body fighting back, educating myself, etc. So all I can say is ride out the wave of aggravation, it does end. For me it was about the one year mark when I really realized how to run my body and stay healthy and happy. Not saying it will take everyone the same amount of time, but be patient you will get there. I crashed big time 2 months out, I have tossed up food many times, I fully agree there are some speed bumps in the journey! Today is my second X mas and as a chef (professionally trained but run a engineering firm, thought it would be a good double major) I cook for many. This year is a private cook for families who are in need. I am Blown away by how many families I will be feeding this holiday, actually so many I have to do half today and the other half tommorrow. No big deal I have a huge outdoor kitchen and indoor kitchen and lost of help from some of my employees. The amount of gifts for those in need filled up two pickup trucks Never seen anything like this especially where I live in one of the wealthiest places in the world - Naples Florida..... So Will this bother me since I can not eat, NOPE! Now not going to say last x mas did piss me off a little but now I look at food as just a thing, Not a obsession that dang nearly killed me! You will get there also so once again if you are struggling ride out the wave it will pass. Reach out to friends and family or even here if you are having issues, ITS JUST FOOD! I know easier said at my stage then yours. Wow while typing this a buddy called and said Steve had to go to the ICU for Covid, Can you go disinfect his house and dog. Part of my company is a remediation/Disinfectant company for mold and Now Covid. That puts things in perspective, he has been battling it all week from home. Back on subject. To wrap it up all I can say is the Holidays are about family and friends, Food is just a thing that in the USA gets abused. Focus on the good things this year and how good next year will be, WTF Knows it can not be any more insane then this year. But i have great kids and friends and great employees, that's what matters to me, Not food! So stay strong - Stay healthy- help those in need if you can - ask for help if you need it. By the way I did call the North Pole and Santa is not a big fan of protean bars and yogurt. Screw him he should learn to eat healthier. No cookies in this house for him! Enjoy and Happy Holidays Please stay safe!
  14. I just had gastric sleeve December 15th . So far so good. My only issue is I’m hungry and it’s the holidays. When can I eat? I’m depressed for texture in my mouth anything soft. I’m tired of protein shakes and broth. I don’t like yogurt, cottage cheese or jello. It’s been 9 days. Can I have eggs, soft fish?
  15. Aggiemae

    Protein protein protein!

I add a scoop of unjury unflavored Protein powder to everything to boost the protein. I scoop has 10 grams. It's lists cheaper in the canisters than the packets. I scoop in 8oz of 1% milk is 28 grams of protein and 270 calories. I can only drink 4oz at a time. Also add it to bone broth, but it can't be hotter than 140 degrees or it clumps up. I mix it with yogurt and cottage cheese 1scoop per cup ahead of time. Sometimes in V8 juice... I do miss veggies. There are probably other brands of unflavored protein out there.

    Stomach hates food

Im choosing the right foods. Sometimes I wonder if I'm chewing good enough. It doesn't matter if I eat or not I still suffer with indigestion. I have history of an ulcer. I take back about the amount. If it's soft like yogurt I can eat most of it. It's weird how my stomach tolerates edamame or a rice cake but not a lot of other foods.
  17. So jealous that so many people get to eat fruit, mix it with their yogurt, etc. My post op plan says no veggies or fruit for six months.
  18. Marie from Michigan

    Protein

It's a continual struggle for me. I am 12 weeks post-op and am supposed to be eating 80 grams of protein a day. I start each day with a protein drink (17 grams) and then eat three meals of at least 15 grams of protein. I eat a lot of fish, lunch meat, ground hamberger, cheese, greek yogurt. I eat very few fruits and vegetables since I can hardly finish the protein. I eat zero breads, rice, pasta. If I ate those things, I would never have room for the protein items. At night I sometimes have a protein bar if I still need another 15 grams of protein. My nutritionist wants me to eat three squares plus one snack a day. No grazing throughout the day. At the 6 month mark, I have to wean off the protein drink and up the protein per meal to 20 grams. I just do the best I can each day and focus on eating protein first which usually turns into protein only. I will say that each day I am able to eat a bite more, mostly a fruit. Yesterday I had scrambled egg with one strawberry sliced. A month ago I would have only been able to finish a portion of the egg, no fruit at all. I haven't used the protein shots but several on this board recommend them. Others mix Special K protein powder into their waters. Keep trying diferent things and you will find something that works for you. I have lost 57 pounds and am very happy I had the surgery! I feel no hunger and don't desire large volumes of food like I used to. Good luck with your surgery!

    Protein

Use a program like myfitnesspal.com to log what you eat and keep track of every bite you take at least initially. What I found was that I was getting more protein than I thought. Every bite of string cheese, greek yogurt and scrambled egg added to my total. I have to break my meals up into 4 or 5 small meals to get it all in but I make my protein goals most days.

    4 oz lite yogurt today

Yogurt is basically a liquid if it isn't a greek yogurt. You really shouldn't be eating until full. That is a bad habit to start. Measure your portions and only eat that amount.
  21. I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op. I've been eating 2oz puréed food at a sitting. Today for breakfast I was able to eat 4oz lite dannon yogurt until full. Does this make since. Later on I was back to 2oz refried beans and was full with that. Thanks in advance for your support!

I had some single-serve Soups in the freezer and bought a lot of Premier Protein, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese for easy sources of protein. I also got 100% cotton panties and a mumu to wear. I bought gauze, pads and paper tape. My grandma brought a walker which helped a lot the first two days. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    14 Years Post Op

It is common to have some limited weight gain after weight loss surgery. They call it a 20 pound bounce. The important thing is not let go beyond this 20 pounds. Most times this weight gain is due to a poor choice of snacks. Snacks should be limited to primarily to whole food options: nuts, natural nut butters, fruits, veggies, boiled eggs, string cheese, yogurt with berries and almonds, tuna pouches. Avoid processed packaged foods as much as possible. Also do not expect to lose weight at a rate similar to right after surgery. Generally if you gained the additional weight over a couple years, then it may take a couple years of watching what you eat to get back down.

    Banded Yesterday-OMG do I hurt

I have actually drank about 5 cups of broth throughout the day....eating popsicles, crystal lite, jello, and still starving...I can't have milk or yogurt until I advance to full liquids....As far as the pain, yes, I am extremely sore....I know to walk...Had and have no problem getting up and walking right after surgery and everyday because I know that is what will help me heal faster too....There is extreme soreness but nothing like my C-Sections and tubal....I don't feel I have any restriction but at times it feels as though my stomach is having spasms....I know I have no saline in my band but usually after surgery due to being swollen, most people are not hungry....My main concern isn't pain/soreness...I know this will go away with time....My main concern is I am starving and my doctor makes us do clear liquids for a week after surgery, then full liquids for a week, then mushies x 1 wk, then solids......My BP too has been sky high since surgery....I have never had a problem with my BP....I thought could possibly be from the discomfort I am having but I took pain med and 45mins later got up to go to the bathroom and my BP is sky high and only coming down slightly after taking pain meds...
