you're just in a stall. Stick to your program and it will pass. Your Protein *is* a little low, though - most RNY patients are supposed to get a minimum of 60 grams.

Why gastric bypass
winning_by_losing replied to foodfighter78's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I felt good enough to work after 3 or 4 days ( was down to just Tylenol the day after i was released) but took a full week off then worked from home for another 2 only because i planned to do so. I was driving and easily ready to after that week though. -
I wouldn't be too disappointed as you're ahead of the one pound per week estimate that my surgeon suggests is typical. Congrats on the weight loss.

Feeling restriction??
Nicole74 replied to extraonme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way..I have had 3 fills and after the 3rd I finally had restriction...however, the really good restriction only lasted about 2 weeks than I was able to eat more again. after my 3rd fill I had a total of 7ccs in 10 cc band. My doctor told me most people start feeling restriction at around 7cc's. I still can eat close to 2 cups before feeling full. It depends on what I eat..somedays I feel more restriction than others and some meals I can eat more than other meals..I havnt figured it out yet. I got banded july 29th. before my 3rd fill and for the first few months after surgery I had no restriction! and it sucked! Im waiting for my 4th fill which is scheduled on Jan. 11th. I think this fill will get me at my sweet spot,at least I am hoping. I do get stuck occasionally now and can't eat a ton of food but I still can eat more than the half cup they reccomend. You will get there...before my 3rd fill I was freaking thinking I had 6cc with no restriction and that I may never get there ...but I thikn now with each fill I will feel a little more. I asked my doctor what happens when I get to 10cc?? and he said "not be able to drink water"..lol..so not saying everyone is like that but you may not feelgood restriction until closer to your max. -
Hi I am 6 weeks out and also having a hard time drinking. It feels like I swallowed a rock. I only take small sips and same results.Warm tea and broth is a lot easer. I was told by a freind that had the sleeve that it gets better with time.

I'm ready, I'm excited, I'm scared to death, but I want this, I do, I do, I do.
joatsaint replied to ShariC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck, hoping for the best for you. And you're right, for the 1st week I didn't want anything to eat. I lived on sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jell-O. And not much of either. I drank lots of ice cold Crystal Light. I tried drinking chicken broth, but it just didn't taste very good after surgery. I liked it a lot pre-surgery. Once I was on full liquids, I pretty much switched over to Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken soup. -

Hello, just throwing this out there. I have been sleeved for almost 1 year. Never do I regret my decision and I feel amazing having lost 90 pounds! At about 4.5 months, I started vomiting and had multiple gall stones so the decision was made to have my gall bladder removed. Procedure went well and recovery was no problem. But, the vomiting still continued. Recently had some more blood work and an EGD scope to look for any kinks or strictures...everything is clear. I can eat soft foods and get in a Protein shake every day to get in my nutrients. Blood work is looking normal and no major red flags. It just every time I eat really course food (chicken, pork, any breads or pastas, rice, and make sure meats are moist) I vomit. I am vigilant about taking small bits, and chew chew chew, and eat slowly. I vomit at least one time a day. Just looking to see if anyone has had any similar experiences. Meeting with Dr. this week to go over the EGD tests. Just curious...maybe I just have a stubborn sleeve!

My Visa debit card is my right hand gal. On the back I've written "SEE ID". It never ceases to amaze me when people flip it over, read that, and hand it right back w/o asking for ID. And worse - when someone does ask for ID, they're so timid - like they expect it will make me mad. Carlene, that's great advice. Here's something else to watch out for. This isn't one of those "tell all your friends" email mass hysterias, this actually happened to me. We bought something at a store that will go unnamed. In retrospect we could remember making the purchase, but not thinking twice about it. Anyway - what happened was that the clerk swiped the card, and the transaction didn't go through. So he swiped the card at another reader and it went through just fine, end of story. Haha. I'm really bad about following up with our account, I know more is coming in than going out, so I just don't pay any attention. We use online banking and every few weeks I'll scan the transactions just to make sure everything looks OK, taht refunds were credited, etc. Well I go to scan, and see a lot of unexplained transactions, and by "a lot of unexplained" I mean over $4k worth of porn subscriptions. Sites for pedophilia, beastiality, snuff, etc. So I call our bank, and they launch an investigation. Ends up, I guess this isn't all that uncommon (from what the bank told us) that people get jobs as store clerks to have access to customers/credit/debit cards. They bring in their own "bogus" scanners that do nothing other than record the information from the swiped card. So the customer goes to buy something, they swipe it once into their recorder, "Oops, doesn't look like that transaction went through" (they've just captured all of your information), "let's try it again on this reader, that one might be broken" (on the actual store scanner that will go through). Our bank was awesome and they credit the money back, no questions asked, but I know there are people out there with online banking who are worse about checking it than me. One lesson learned we took away from this is that we now limit the amt of money we keep in checking. On payday X amount is automatically transferred into savings (we've always done that), X amout is automatically transferred into what we call "liquid savings" - savings for purchases, taxes, vacations, whatever... not real savings, just a way to store up money we know we will spend eventually), and X is automatically transferred into investments, and the rest goes into our checking. Now I keep a max of 4k in checking unless I know I'm going to make a big purchase. I'll check every few weeks and if we're over that, I'll transfer to one of the other accounts. I talk to my friends who keep 100% of their cash assets in their primary checking account, and I share my story with them, and usually they change their ways. We had ewnough to cover the fraudulent purchases, but if we hadn't, all of our bills are done on autopay, and that means everything from our cable bill to our mortgage could have bounced. That means lots of penalties, fees, and the potential for credit impact.

@ nailed it. I had a long post-op liquids phase by most standards (6 weeks), after a five day clear liquids pre-op. Talk about cleansing your system. It was hard, but doable. I'm glad it's over, but grateful for the benefits it gave me.

They'd prefer you not to do it within a time frame before or after surgery, so call your surgeon's office and be sure to ask them when you can do it and not interfere with surgery schedule. Also, make sure to eat low carb for about a week before and at least a week or 2 after to minimize any weight gain from the steroid. It will help you not overeat. "They" say it won't cause weight gain/munchies but they are lying liars that lie. I've had many steroid shots and if I don't do that, I'm guaranteed a 4lb gain. At 3 years post op though, you should be fine...but still call to be sure with your program.

Not losing weight on purées
catwoman7 replied to SAS11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it's the infamous "three-week stall". If you do a search on this site for it, you will literally find over 15,000 posts on it. Almost everyone has that. Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days. It typically lasts 1-3 weeks. Your weight loss WILL start up again. And just so you know, you're likely to go through several of these on your journey. -
I am 6 weeks out and im down 13kg. But id lost 27kg pre op as well. So 40kg total (88lbs) But i had a high start weight so that can definately imoact on speed of loss

Hey Kaze.... at 6 weeks i had lost 28 pounds... but i am considered a "lightweight" so weightloss is slower But it also depends on your starting weight, age, metabolism, how long you have been yoyo dieting etc. I am assuming you are on the pre op diet now if your surgery is on Tuesday .... how much have you lost so far? What is starting weight?

@AussieGirl8 I don't notice, tbh about the breath thing. It seems normal to me. I've taken to brushing more than I used to, so... lol. I had planned on being type 1. Weighing in every Saturday or so. Only track it once a week. I've got Fit Journey. Can't track Water or food on it (unless I make it a "comment"). I'll probably either do that or find something better. My dad has good advice and that's why I like this app, but he says I should "track the trend". I shouldn't care about the numbers as long as the trend is generally going down. This one just shows a very simple graph and I like it for that.

Good luck to all! I'm going in on 10/25 preop diet one week down. Can anyone tell me how to fill out bio on here I'm not very good at this. Thanks so much y'all! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I think that is great! 28 pounds in two weeks is amazing!

I was taking pills (several) from the day after the surgery, no issues. I wouldn't worry. We all get different advice depending on the surgeon and NUT. I did not even have a period of clears, was on pureed from day 3, and softs at 2 weeks. Had my first scrambled egg today! No problems. I suspect the over cautious approach of some physicians is connected to liability issues and insurance requirements.

My name is Toni and I have a rare story I would like to share and need insight on what to do next. I had the sleeve surgery Nov 5 2014. My starting weight was 241, on Jan 6 2015 I was at a 32lb loss. Except on that day I was sentenced to 195 dys in jail. I didn't lose another pound in those 6 1/2 mths. I came home 2 weeks ago at the same weight I was at in Jan. I can eat more than when I went in now and wonder have I botched surgery and will I begin back to losing now that I'm in control of what I eat again? Can we shrink our stomachs? And how much should I have been down 9 mths post op?

Today was my 2 week check up from my revision. I am so happy that I am down 12 lbs!! I am very excited about this. I also get to start back on my Zumba class and lifting weights to music class next week. It is strange I am feeling the need to do more of that type of exercise than I am of walking.

@1naturalLuser that's great testimony that if all of us here could have lose it on our own will be done already. I'm still waiting on my insurance appeal because I think gastric sleeve might be less invasive. My insurance don't cover gastric sleeve. I don't know why I'm thinking that the sleeve is easier??? I'll give one more week and then I'll ask the dr to go and request insurance for gastric bypass. Good luck on your surgery
-
it'll slow down. I had a big drop the first month, then it's been like 2-3 lbs a week. Plus like many, you may hit the "three week stall" soon where you won't lose anything for a week or two....

Be careful with bread/doughy products - even at 6 weeks out, they're tough to "swallow!"
