  1. @Shareefe and @@paigem I'm having the same thing lap band revision on the 22nd...no worries ladies I know this will work for us...Good luck ladies
  2. I am looking to have gastric sleeve at the end of March but I currently have pretty bad reflux (mostly consists of burning in my throat) and I am concerned that it will make the situation worse. I have heard of people needing to get revision to bypass to alleviate their symptoms. Would love to hear From anyone who has the sleeve with pre-existing gerd/reflux.
  3. When I went to my pre-op appointment, I was speaking with the surgeon and he mentioned that the sleeve "only has the horsepower to help you lose between 100-150lbs", and mentioned that, due to my size (470lbs) I would likely have to get revision surgery to RNY, but for now he agreed that the sleeve would be best for me. Personally, I agree that the sleeve is the best option for me, but I am worried that he is right about eventually needing revision surgery. I only want to go through this once! I have previously posted asking about experiences of people who were 400+ lbs who chose the sleeve even though it doesn't have as much firepower behind it as the RNY. I'm making this post to see if anyone else has heard this claim before or if they were able to surpass the 150-170lb mark. Don't get me wrong, I will be doing all I can to help my sleeve through diet and exercise, but I just worry that it will all be for nothing. (Not that 150lbs isn't nothing, but I have at least 120 extra after that to lose!!) Thank you in advance
  4. Shareefa: same scenario here. I'm waiting at hospital now to have band out & revision to sleeve. Nervous but ready to get it over with. Good new is that I lost 14# in 11 days!! Best of luck to you!
  5. I did not go out of the country for my band but was self pay for it. My insurance paid for my band to sleeve revision even though I was uninsured when the band was placed.

    Approved for Wrong Surgery

Cheap insurance companies,,,I need a revision and am awaiting approval to bypass.,,not interested in the sleeve at all.
  7. I had the lapband Nov 2009 . My SW was 242 the lowest weight I got with the band was 218. The band gave me problems , it was difficut to swallow lean meat and I had awful reflux. I became pregnant May 2013 my weight was 230. After pregnancy, I was back at 242 and had to have all the Fluid removed from my band because the reflux was unbearable and I couldnt eat solid eat without vomiting. After the band had no restriction I gained 10 pounds in 1 month. So I decided to inquire about revision. I had revision consult June . The doctor gave option of sleeve or bypass and explained both thoroughly and could decide later. My insurance required 6 month diet and nut . So my appointent were all set with PA and each time we talked about bypass. So today I get call from the surgery coordinator I was approved for revision but already knew because my authorization arrived in mail over the weekend. We set surgery for Jan 22 and set up pre op appt. I wanted to verify the authorization included bypass because it only had band removal as the procedure. She said your approved for band removal and gastric sleeve. Excuse me No. I selected bypass. "Did you change from sleeve to bypass " No I always wanted bypass .She kept all the date set saying the qualification are the same and she willl resubmit for bypass. Just nervous this could prolong my surgery. Anyone had this issue.

    Recovery + Time Off Work

I had surgery last Monday (12/7) and am back to work today (although I will work from home this week, back to the office next week). I have had a week of ups and downs but the downs mostly have been because of the drain I have, terrible gas and then constipation. I get the drain out this afternoon and the other two problems are better. The combination of anistesia and pain medicine is lethal to the GI system. I am also tired in the afternoons but not such that I can't handle it. If you can take off two full weeks I would suggest you do so - you will feel alot better by that time. By the way - my surgery was a band to bypass revision. Good luck! Kelly

    Sleeve to RNY?

Hello, this is my first post so I'm not sure if it goes here, and partial rant but I need ideas or if anyone has had similar experiences. I was sleeved Feb 17 of this year. So far I've lost over 115 pounds, however I've hit an unexpected problem the last **6** weeks! When I eat food, I get a pain anywhere between my throat and sternum. The pain will continue for 1-2 hours after eating, and will happen with anything, whether it be a Protein shake or a regular meal. It has gotten to the point where I'm slightly scared/nervous to eat because each time the food regurtitates itself back into my throat as if something is stuck somewhere. Prior to this happening I was hitting all my macros, and doing it consistantly. Each day tracking foods with myfitnesspal, and making sure I stay within my surgical teams nutrition guidelines. However at this point I'm eating about 1 meal a day, and only taking in roughly 500 calories (I understand this is a problem) So at this point I"m worried about this slowing/stalling my weight loss, on top of issues with taking in so few calories. As far as what has happened so far: I use to take prilosec daily, when this started happening I had an upper GI which came back showing everything was looking great. Then I started having pain in my side, so they did an ultrasound and found gallstones, which resulted in my gallbladder being taken out. Yet from this pain still exists. At this point I had an endoscopy which showed everything looked normal. I'm now taking Protonix instead of prilosec as prescribed by my surgeon. This leads us to now where I'm waiting to do another upper GI, and then there might be talk of doing a revision to a RNY. As this is affecting my daily life, I'm wondering if anyone has had anything similar? How long it takes to go from the stage I'm at to a sleeve revision? And if there are any other steps besides possibly being prescribed Protonix+Prilosec daily? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Completely unfilled and throwing up!

I have no info on coverage for revision surgery, but would guess that it depends on whether the problem is band failure rather than patient "failure." Your being at your goal and a good BMI now will probably be a factor unless you have co-morbidities. Take it up with your surgeon's office. It seems you have many factors at play. The reason I'm stopping in is that I can't help but wonder why your band hasn't been removed? It makes no sense, as it does seem that the band is has been the problem.
  15. I had my lap band and gall bladder out Jan 2015, I am retired Tricare, I have 5 comorbilities and my bariactric surgeon is requesting approval for the bypass now. Does anyone know if Tricare will cover this as a 2 stage revision after the lap band is removed?

Looking for Sleeve Buddy for Dec 7th.

My lap-band to gastric sleeve revision surgery was on November 20th. I had to do a 2-week pre-op diet consisting of mostly Protein liquids along with a salad each day. Everything went great with surgery besides having a seizure at the hospital!!! I had constant nausea the entire first week after surgery, but it's better now. I also try to walk every day even though I still don't have very much energy. My biggest craves, believe it or not, are apples, bananas, tuna, and pizza. 3 out of 4 ain't bad I guess. Lol. I am now 3 weeks post op and have lost 30 pounds. It's a decent start, but I still have a long way to go. Good luck to everyone!!!
  19. Last year I almost died from my Lapband aspirating into my lung... I spent 3 weeks in ICU... I got a complete unfill and I still get sick on a daily basis.. How can I get my insurance to pay for a revision? I been banded since 2008 and I feel like this band is going to kill me! ????
  20. Three separate surgeries; remove the band, had a gastric bleed. Last week, sleeve revision

How was your 5:2 day today?

Well that is excellent that you're having fun and enjoying his company. That's the important thing. He treats you well and makes you feel great, so you can't ask for more. I've given up thinking I can find a forever relationship. If I could find someone to have fun with, I'd be thrilled. There isn't anyone on any of the sites that I'm interested in, except for the ones in Eugene or Portland, either 2 or 4 hours away. I've been trying to be really careful and not gain any more weight, but I can't seem to lose 1 lb. I'm thinking I should just get rid of the clothes that don't fit me and make me feel bad about myself. We will have to see what happens when I get back to the gym. I could join now, but I'm going to wait til after Christmas. My acid problems are new. I've been on Protonix since surgery and it wasn't helping me. The doctor put me on Nexium which she said was stronger. It seems to be helping. I hope it does not get any worse because I will never revise to RNY.

    I hate my band...

Why not go back to the surgeon and get a fill? Every surgery will be hard work. If after rebooting you aren't doing well, then consider a revision. Don't be embarrassed. They have seen it all
  23. I found the FB group & sent request to join. I'm lap band to sleeve revision Tues.12/15!
  24. Thank you to all who have posted. I have read many of them. I got my lap band in April 2009. I went from 254 to 178 in Dec 2013 and felt great. Then I got food poisoning and the band has never been right since. I have had more fills and un-fills than I care to admit. Finally the doctor said you have to do something. You can't keep living like this. I was waking up in the middle of the night vomiting and scared. Scared I was going to die and I surely did not want it to be this way. After many discussion and much research, I am having lap band revision to gastric sleeve surgery this Tuesday, Dec 15th. I am a little scared because it is surgery but very confident in my decision. I am so looking forward to getting back on the journey to a healthier me. I know I can do this. And yes it is Christmas, BUT it is my Season for Believing. And I Believe this is the right choice for me.

    Pros and Cons

The sleeve procedure scared me more than having RNY. For one I have horrible GERD, which is amplified when having sleeve surgery. The second reason was, RNY can be reversed if absolutely medically necessary, sleeve cannot. The third reason was, many, many ladies in my program were having revisions from sleeve to RNY. Their reasons were all the same; never got to goal weight, had too many issues with heartburn and many of their comorbidities were still present. I don't think there is a general pros. vs cons. for either surgery, it all comes down to personal goals and current health situations. I am three months post-op. Down 65 pounds, three pant sizes, 4 dress/blouse sizes, off all my heartburn, blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes medicine. I am so very, very, very happy with my decision to have RNY.
