  1. Hello fellow sleevers. I am newly sleeved(12/08/15) and am on puréed stage. I've tolerated cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and tuna with 1tbps. Fat free miracle whip well. I've tried scrambled eggs, turkey, and cod(in the hospital), which went just okay. Chicken with 1 tbsp. Fat free gravy didn't sit well. I felt sooo sick, like a big old rock sitting in my stomach....not gonna try that again for a while! I almost feel like the colder puréeds worked better with my new/still healing tummy. So my question for you that have been through this already is what did you eat on your puréed stage? What worked? What didn't?

1 week post op! Puree time!

Well, I found out that I have a h pylori infection and my glucose was very high. I have never had any glucose issues despite having a strong family history if diabetes. The PAs were debating whether to put me on metformin but chose to recheck my a1c in 3 mos. The PA thought my chest pain could be related to my hiatal hernia repair healing, so I was prescribed levsin. I took about 3 yesterday and I took my first pain free sip of Water this morning! I'm so happy it's helping! Get this, I was prescribed prevpac for the h pylori which consists of 4 huge pills that are taken in the am/pm for 14 days! Umm no! There is no way those are going down yet! I am feeling better and better each day, my incisions barely hurt anymore. I am going to try to get some yogurt down today, baby steps! Thanks for asking! Awesome Cleo brown! I see many people has complications after. I'm glad u haven't experienced much besides the gas. How'd it go on ur follow up?
  3. So how is everyone doing now that the surgery is over? I had mine Dec 1 and sometimes I have to pinch myself to remind myself that I DID IT! It's over! I'm on the OTHER SIDE now! That feels great. i'm doing everything I'm supposed to do and have dropped 22 pounds (including the pre-diet). i'm thrilled with that number. Every day the scale drops. What a fun way to start the day! My scars are healing and not really sore anymore. I do find that I'm more tired than I used to be. I am 61 years old, but have always had plenty of energy to get things done. I run around all the time doing errands and helping family members who need assistance. I have to pace myself. One problem I'm having is planning for "meals" or Snacks when I'm running around. I can't wait until I can eat a Protein bar...those are so mobile. But it's hard to take 2oz of yogurt or 1/2 c of creamed, strained Soup for lunch in the car! Oh well, these weeks will pass quickly. Tonight I tried pureeing cottage cheese because that is in my phase two "full liquids" weeks (week 2 and 3 for me). I added a little milk so it would puree better and ugh! That was disgusting. I'm not looking forward to the puree weeks (weeks 4 and 5). So how is everyone else doing? I'm doing fine getting the protein and Fluid in. I went to a christmas brunch this morning and there was quite a spread and....i hardly gave it a look. Didn't eat a thing, of course. Merry Christmas!

    Protein Ideas?!?!?!

I like the fairlife milk that was previously suggested. Lately I've been buying Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt in vanilla and adding PB2. The yogurt has 80 calories and 12 grams of Protein. The PB2 has 45 calories and 5 grams of protein. So that gives me a total of 125 calories and 17 grams of protein. I use it either as breakfast or a snack. I really can't eat much in the mornings because my band is too tight so it's either yogurt like this or a Protein shake. You can also buy Nature Valley Protein granola in various different flavors and add that to your yogurt.
  6. Hi Phat I TOTALLY relate to your struggle with Protein powders. I'm only 11 days post op but will share what's helped me. I bought a bunch of samples from Nashua Nutrition. http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/protein-powders/protein-powder-samples-1-serving.html I'm just learning to refrigerate the shake for at least 20 minutes before drinking it. I'm also using soy milk. So far the three shakes I've had are actually not bad. I've also bought Soups that have 15 grams of protein and they're very drinkable when doctored up with spices. In preparation for my next phase "Soft", I've gotten oatmeal with no sugar and 15 gr protein. If it's disgusting, I'll switch to be favorite irish steel oats and add, SF maple syrup, applesauce and Protein powder. Feedback I've seen on the protein oatmeal is the consistency is pretty bad. Looking to yogurt and cottage cheese

    Bowel movements after sleeve surgery

I'm new at this, but when my bowels woke after surgery, it was unholy! It was mass evacuation with pushing and shoving. Then, there was silence. Not pooped since, I've had zero solid food yet, so not surprised. I wonder if you are having a reaction to your protein? Splatty poo over and over doesn't sound right. Have you repopulated your colon with live yogurt cultures? Maybe that could help?
  8. @@Kindle is right. Taste is subjective. I love Isopure. I use the unflavored powder & the clear drink teas. Hated premier protein, EASI also like Orgain, Biochem vegan. Cvs brand and ProSource NoCarb. I added fresh fruit, almond butter, spinach fresh or frozen, Fage 0% Greek yogurt to my shakes for variety.

    3 tablespoons per meal?

Did someone tell you that you should eat only 3 tablespoons at each meal? If so, that's cray. Early on, your new stomach is swollen (while it's healing) that 3 tablespoons could well be all you could eat. But eventually, your stomach will heal, easing the restriction a bit. By 3 months post-op I was eating half a cup of food at each meal. Today (at nearly 16 months post-op) I can usually eat about a cup at each meal. By a few months post-op I was also eating a couple of Snacks a day -- my go-to snacks were (early on) Greek yogurt or cheese. Months later, as restriction continued to ease I added fruit to the yogurt. Just be careful not turn your high-Protein snacks into nibbling on slider foods, e.g., pretzels, crackers, crap, all day long. Those are not snacks! That's what they call "grazing," and it's the road to perdition.
  10. I'm 1 day post op. Surgery took place last night. My surgery was easy and straight forward, sleeve took 30 mins from rolling back to OR to when doc came and told my friend I was heading to recovery. I woke up from anethesia very very sick. I vomited a few times. And was shocked by the pain. Just a couple hours later I had figured out the morphene drip and was up and moving. I had many nurses who were really shocked by my willpower. One even said I looked like a visitor, not someone who just had surgery. I was released this morning at 10am, just 16 hours from when I had my surgery. I feel great. Went and got my meds filled and picked up some yogurt and soup. I am glad I had such a great recovery... That's one thing I was worried about.

    December 8th Sleevers......

What did you try to eat? I tried some soup that I strained and had four spoonfuls and was done it was heavily diluted with water too.I had puréed chicken...I had puréed turkey, chicken, and cod(which was actually better than it sounds) in the hospital, along with puréed carrots, peaches, applesauce, and Greek yogurt. I think I just tried eating too fast as well as to big a portion and it was too much. I have my tiny spoons from the program and am using those to help gauge my intake(doc wants # of those spoonfuls documented). I am more concerned at this point in getting my fluid intake but just received my protein soup broth from diet direct! Yeah, now I can do double duty!????????oh my......your ????were bigger than your tummy LOL.....I'm on liquids for 2 weeks ????The surgeons instructions for after VSG are liquids only first day and 2nd day for breakfast, and lunch and dinner second day puréed through the next two weeks...after two weeks soft foods and then transition. I did okay in the hospital, I guess I just really want to do whatever I can to meet goals and NOT end up back in. I think we are all feeling that way--I don't want to go through this again!
  12. I am 8 days post-op and can have liquids and Greek yogurt. I am extremely hungry for "real food" almost all the time. Some of this is head hunger, and some of it is real. To add to my issues, I'm sick with bronchitis and have been given prednisone. A side effect of prednisone is increased appetite. Please, I'm begging you, for tips and tricks and anything that will help?

  16. Thanks. I did buy some Greek yogurts to try, I did get the Fage 0%, it seemed to be the highest rated. I will try that in a smoothie tomorrow and see if that helps.

    Bananas?

It takes a LOT of bananas to get your potassium up enough. Try some other sources--white Beans, squash, dark green leafy vegs, salmon, mushrooms are all actually HIGHER in potassium than bananas and yogurt is close behind. All have fewer grams of sugar and some even have Protein. http://www.healthaliciousness.com/articles/food-sources-of-potassium.php http://www.health.com/health/m/gallery/0,,20721159,00.html Regardless with your decreased capacity it will be tough to get enough in. Do consider supplements. I drink NUUN because I run, but my mother in law gets cramps like yours and started drinking it (it's calorie free) and her cramps have gone away.

    Bananas?

I eat 1/4 - 1/3 of banana everyday for Breakfast mashed in plain Greek yogurt. I've done this since about three weeks out (but I checked with my clinic first). I don't eat any other fruit during the day because I know it has a higher sugar content and I keep an eye on my daily totals. Meg~
  19. A better choice at Wendy's would be the chili. It's Beans & meat compared to the baked potato. I also keep in my glove compartment Protein bars, and single serving packs of nuts. Usually either pistachio, almond or cashews. I would dump the premade Breakfast and make your own. Instead of the Jimmy Dean do a food prep. You can make your own in a muffin tin. You will miss loads of sodium. 1 egg plus a tsp of plain greek yogurt ( I prefer FAGE0% greek). Mix well, then add any lean meats you like and top with a tiny bit of finely shredded cheese. Pour into muffin tins and bake at 275 until done. The yogurt adds a bit more protein, you skip most of the sodium from the box food and it's cheaper I also find that I use less cheese if I buy the finely shredded and sprinkle it on, but I still get that cheesy flavor. I'd stay away from baked beans. You get some protein from the beans but they are higher in sugar. I'd go for low sodium black beans or lentils instead. You can even add a bit of salsa to up the flavor. When I was aiming for 800 calories my morning was most often a Protein shake with added yogurt. I found that the yogurt cut the sweet factor for me. Perhaps try switching and using different brands so you don't reach the point where they start tasting yucky. Another good way to hide the protein would be to use Protein Powder or even RDT Protein Drink instead of cream. If you use the protein powder I find it best to dissolve the powder with a tbsp of warm liquid before adding it to my coffee. Use a fork or small whisk to make sure it's blended well.
  20. I take them as well, plus I eat a ton of yogurt (it's like the only treat I eat), it was ass neutral. It did not seem to help me. MOM did. Keep my ass in line too.

    Calories

I am 3 weeks out and I feel like I can eat alot . For example today . This morning I had my protien shake , then a while after Greek yogurt , then half a avocado , and then a whole piece if string cheese . Been drinking my water all day also . I feel like I'm eating to much. Anyone going through this ? Let me add that I also had some tofu and blended beans . I'm really getting worried that maybe something is wrong or I stretched my pouch.
  23. I will see if I can sort through your questions/issues. This may seem random. If you are 7 weeks post-op, what food phase are you on? If you are eating ground beef patties you should be able to eat a small Wendy's Chili which would have been my choice in your situation. I would think a Wendy's cheeseburger without a bun or a grilled chicken sandwich without a bun would also be a better choice than a baked potato which had no Protein. If you eat fast food then it is perfectly acceptable to order sandwiches without bread. I haven't found anywhere that doesn't have something I can eat now that I am cleared for all foods. For my program, my protein target is 100 grams a day, too. I avoid starches (rice, potatoes, bread, Pasta, etc.). I get most of my carbs from vegetables and some fruit. Read labels carefully. I don't think an Adkin's snack would be the best choice, especially since your NUT wants you to cut back on the sweets. Neither would a mug brownie (even if it is a protein brownie). I eat a lot of tuna, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese sticks, refried Beans, turkey burgers, deli turkey, etc. It sounds like you may want to get comfortable in choosing protein first. What I gather from what you posted is that you still want to build your meals around carbs instead of protein. It takes some thought and practice, but you can do it. The good thing is that if you stop eating starches, you will stop craving starches. I hope this helps.

    Pre-op Dieters, check in!

Today started my 7 days of mostly liquids. I can have 4-5 Protein shakes (less than 5g carbs), 3 dairy items (milk or yogurt), 1 cup raw veggies in the afternoon and 3 glasses of Benefiber. The shakes and Benefiber drinks go towards my required 100 oz of liquids. I'm sipping Water all day too but have to get used to not using a straw. No more of that after surgery. FYI - my doctor allows Stevia for a sweetener. Isopure makes some flavored drinks with zero carbs which I found at the Vitamin Shoppe. Anyone have other good drink ideas?
  25. I was sleeved on 12/1! It's going great so far! I only had one week of Soups and liquids, and I've been on purées since Tuesday. I'm down 10lbs! I'm trying to get my Protein in by Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, canned chicken breast, Protein shake here or there. Can't eat too much at one time but I'm grazing. I'm failing on my fluids but each day I can take in more and more. Hopefully things stay this way! Let's all keep in touch and help each other out!
