  1. Yikes. Dairy was a big staple for me in those early weeks especially. I relied heavily in cottage cheese and yogurt. Without those options, I think you may have to do a lot of Protein shakes and things like Unjury's protein chicken broth. It'll probably be a ittle while before you can actually handle meat of any sort. I remember the first time I tried tuna once I was allowed and it sounds like your experience with the chicken. It was like lead in my stomach after only a couple of bites. Hang in there! Once you are onto solid foods, you will have a lot more options. But do try your best to get in your Protein Shakes at least for now.
  2. I didn't progress through any of my food stages early. Even though I "felt" fine, who knows what was really going on on the inside. It wasn't worth risking my healing or causing a leak just so I could chew food one day sooner, you know? I actually never once pureed anything during my pureed phase. I drank my Protein shakes, had strained cream soups a LOT, and used the recipes on Shelly's page (mostly the baked ricotta) here: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html I did a lot of cottage cheese and yogurt. And once I was allowed soft foods, a lot of scrambled eggs and soft cheeses.

Yes eating slow is hard my dietician wants Me to stop shakes but I don't think I can make the 60 without my one shake made with total Greek yogurt each day. Other than that he really happy with my progress. The next 4 weeks are going to be a challenge. Festive meals and treats every where only safe place is our house. So glad I have the bypass as this will keep sugary treats at arms length : ) keep in touch guys
  4. First of all, are you on a PPI? Some of what you are describing as "hunger" and stomach grumbling could just be excess stomach acid. If your surgeon didn't prescribe you a PPI post-op, you can buy them over the counter (Prilosec or Nexium) at just about any drug or grocery store. How are you eating chicken already at a week post-op? Are you at least pureeing it? There is NO WAY I could have handled food like that so early on. A week post-op, the most "solid" food I was allowed was drinkable yogurt and I think maybe cottage cheese? I was mostly on Protein shakes and strained Soups at that point. But as for your bigger question about whether you will ever feel normal again, I promise you will! That was my biggest question and concern in my early weeks post-op too. I must have asked that question a thousand times. I dreaded that I would always feel uncomfortable and irritable and tired! I was worried I would never be able to eat like a normal person again or go out with friends. But, I promise, you WILL get there. Just be patient and focus on the day-to-day for now. Get your protein and Water in. Walk as much as you can. And make sure you take all your meds and Vitamins. Day-by-day it will get a little easier and easier and one day you will wake up and you will feel like a human again.
  5. So I am tentatively scheduled for surgery on Dec. 22, pending cardiac clearance. I was originally scheduled for October but postponed due to blood tests. The first time I didn't cheat at all on the 2 week diet. This time I seem to be hungrier and more prone to nibbles. I've been not so bad and kept my nibbling to fruit and yogurt. Why is it so hard the second time around? That wanted me to w 13lbs the first time and I have lost 25 as of yesterday. Keep your fingers crossed I get the clearance after my echo and stress test tomorrow.
  6. So I am starting my 2 week liquid diet. I am scared I am not going to make it. How did you guys fare? Did you drink Protein when you got hungry or have a set schedule for when you was drinking it? What all did you drink? I do need to buy some Jello and yogurt today when I get off of work. Share with me your experience being on the 2 week liquid diet. Thanks Starting at 491.6 due to my "Last Supper Week" I got to the point of where I no longer wanted to eat.

    Puréed stage?

my surgery was 12/7 and my surgeon's plan also moves right to pureed/soft "stage 3" diet once home too. I am taking it easy and sticking with mostly "full" liquids like Protein drinks and pureed soups like lentil, tomato, split pea, nothing with noodles or rice, mostly "cream of" styles (homemade or even Progresso has a bunch of good ones - my fav right now is creamy chicken enchilada). But tonight I pureed some rotisserie chicken in a small food processor until it was literally the texture of breadcrumbs and then mixed it with some gravy into a paste. Had a large spoonful of the chicken mixture with a large spoonful of mashed butternut squash as well (the two actually tasted really good together) - maybe about 1 oz of each. It was so yummy I can't wait to have it again tomorrow! I am also eating no sugar added popsicles, fudgesicles, and made my own pops today with leftover homemade protein drink/smoothie. Also eating greek yogurt, cottage cheese, homemade decaf iced tea - everything gets some unflavored Musclegen Pro unflavored Protein powder mixed into it. Oh and Miralax, lol.

    Craving chips and salsa/avocado

I do a bean bowl. ¼ cup black Beans, salsa, shredded cheese, dice avocado. You can up the Protein by adding dollop of greak yogurt instead of cream cheese. Everything else is allowed on a soft diet and give you protein plus Fiber. As you progress to all foods cucumber and baked cheese chips are good alternative. I even read that some people bake pepperoni slices.

    What foods are you eating?

I am just over 13 weeks and still eating cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs, fish(white and canned) canned meats. I don't eat beef or pork and if chicken is not moist enough it is really hard to eat, I prefer dark chicken meat.

Does Your Family’s Kitchen Support Weight Loss?

"Boredom eater" and "celebratory eater" describes most of my old bad habits. The scary stuff in my kitchen used to be potato chips, tortilla chips, ice cream, takeout Desserts, deli pimento cheese, cream cheese, bagels, guacamole (because of the tortilla chips that went with it), and leftover pizza. All that stuff is gone now. We do eat pizza, but throw away the leftovers -- or freeze them and then throw them away later. We do still keep Peanut Butter in the house (which calls to me sometime), but it's high up on a shelf behind a cabinet door. I think that what makes a bigger difference than what we don't have in the kitchen now is what we DO have in the kitchen -- healthier, tasty food: Greek yogurt (vanilla and blueberry), tasty seed crackers and GOOD cheeses, apples, almonds, our favorite Breakfast Protein drink (a GNC swiss chocolate version), non-sugar chocolate pudding, fresh berries (when they're in season). When you're hungry, healthy food is so much more satisfying. Slider foods and crap stuff just make me hungrier. Not a good feeling.

    Pre op diet diet tomorrow

i'm in the same boat. surgery dec 30th. liquid diet started yesterday. and only 15 more days of it to go. Ugh! i can totally agree with the loose stools. i have learned to make sure you are on the pot before letting one rip (i messed my undies at work and had to go commando for the afternoon. NOT COOL). the thing i'm going to miss is sitting down at the table for dinner with the family. but i need to do this for my famliy so... i have found Protein shakes are okay. adding greek yogurt makes them slightly better. G2 gatorade had been my buddy too. i freaking hated gatorade but now its not so bad (beats drinking plain Water all the time). all i know is that cheating is NOT an option. we must stick it out. keep chugging away and it will be here before you know it.

    Puréed stage?

I didn't get pureed until week 3! I enjoyed chicken salad, tuna salad, scrambled egg, cottage cheese, yogurt, refried Beans with cheese, tilapia, and thicker pureed Soups.
  15. Hello fellow sleevers. I am newly sleeved(12/08/15) and am on puréed stage. I've tolerated cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and tuna with 1tbps. Fat free miracle whip well. I've tried scrambled eggs, turkey, and cod(in the hospital), which went just okay. Chicken with 1 tbsp. Fat free gravy didn't sit well. I felt sooo sick, like a big old rock sitting in my stomach....not gonna try that again for a while! I almost feel like the colder puréeds worked better with my new/still healing tummy. So my question for you that have been through this already is what did you eat on your puréed stage? What worked? What didn't?

1 week post op! Puree time!

Well, I found out that I have a h pylori infection and my glucose was very high. I have never had any glucose issues despite having a strong family history if diabetes. The PAs were debating whether to put me on metformin but chose to recheck my a1c in 3 mos. The PA thought my chest pain could be related to my hiatal hernia repair healing, so I was prescribed levsin. I took about 3 yesterday and I took my first pain free sip of Water this morning! I'm so happy it's helping! Get this, I was prescribed prevpac for the h pylori which consists of 4 huge pills that are taken in the am/pm for 14 days! Umm no! There is no way those are going down yet! I am feeling better and better each day, my incisions barely hurt anymore. I am going to try to get some yogurt down today, baby steps! Thanks for asking! Awesome Cleo brown! I see many people has complications after. I'm glad u haven't experienced much besides the gas. How'd it go on ur follow up?
  17. So how is everyone doing now that the surgery is over? I had mine Dec 1 and sometimes I have to pinch myself to remind myself that I DID IT! It's over! I'm on the OTHER SIDE now! That feels great. i'm doing everything I'm supposed to do and have dropped 22 pounds (including the pre-diet). i'm thrilled with that number. Every day the scale drops. What a fun way to start the day! My scars are healing and not really sore anymore. I do find that I'm more tired than I used to be. I am 61 years old, but have always had plenty of energy to get things done. I run around all the time doing errands and helping family members who need assistance. I have to pace myself. One problem I'm having is planning for "meals" or Snacks when I'm running around. I can't wait until I can eat a Protein bar...those are so mobile. But it's hard to take 2oz of yogurt or 1/2 c of creamed, strained Soup for lunch in the car! Oh well, these weeks will pass quickly. Tonight I tried pureeing cottage cheese because that is in my phase two "full liquids" weeks (week 2 and 3 for me). I added a little milk so it would puree better and ugh! That was disgusting. I'm not looking forward to the puree weeks (weeks 4 and 5). So how is everyone else doing? I'm doing fine getting the protein and Fluid in. I went to a christmas brunch this morning and there was quite a spread and....i hardly gave it a look. Didn't eat a thing, of course. Merry Christmas!

    Protein Ideas?!?!?!

I like the fairlife milk that was previously suggested. Lately I've been buying Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt in vanilla and adding PB2. The yogurt has 80 calories and 12 grams of Protein. The PB2 has 45 calories and 5 grams of protein. So that gives me a total of 125 calories and 17 grams of protein. I use it either as breakfast or a snack. I really can't eat much in the mornings because my band is too tight so it's either yogurt like this or a Protein shake. You can also buy Nature Valley Protein granola in various different flavors and add that to your yogurt.
  20. Hi Phat I TOTALLY relate to your struggle with Protein powders. I'm only 11 days post op but will share what's helped me. I bought a bunch of samples from Nashua Nutrition. http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/protein-powders/protein-powder-samples-1-serving.html I'm just learning to refrigerate the shake for at least 20 minutes before drinking it. I'm also using soy milk. So far the three shakes I've had are actually not bad. I've also bought Soups that have 15 grams of protein and they're very drinkable when doctored up with spices. In preparation for my next phase "Soft", I've gotten oatmeal with no sugar and 15 gr protein. If it's disgusting, I'll switch to be favorite irish steel oats and add, SF maple syrup, applesauce and Protein powder. Feedback I've seen on the protein oatmeal is the consistency is pretty bad. Looking to yogurt and cottage cheese

    Bowel movements after sleeve surgery

I'm new at this, but when my bowels woke after surgery, it was unholy! It was mass evacuation with pushing and shoving. Then, there was silence. Not pooped since, I've had zero solid food yet, so not surprised. I wonder if you are having a reaction to your protein? Splatty poo over and over doesn't sound right. Have you repopulated your colon with live yogurt cultures? Maybe that could help?
  22. @@Kindle is right. Taste is subjective. I love Isopure. I use the unflavored powder & the clear drink teas. Hated premier protein, EASI also like Orgain, Biochem vegan. Cvs brand and ProSource NoCarb. I added fresh fruit, almond butter, spinach fresh or frozen, Fage 0% Greek yogurt to my shakes for variety.

    3 tablespoons per meal?

Did someone tell you that you should eat only 3 tablespoons at each meal? If so, that's cray. Early on, your new stomach is swollen (while it's healing) that 3 tablespoons could well be all you could eat. But eventually, your stomach will heal, easing the restriction a bit. By 3 months post-op I was eating half a cup of food at each meal. Today (at nearly 16 months post-op) I can usually eat about a cup at each meal. By a few months post-op I was also eating a couple of Snacks a day -- my go-to snacks were (early on) Greek yogurt or cheese. Months later, as restriction continued to ease I added fruit to the yogurt. Just be careful not turn your high-Protein snacks into nibbling on slider foods, e.g., pretzels, crackers, crap, all day long. Those are not snacks! That's what they call "grazing," and it's the road to perdition.
  24. I'm 1 day post op. Surgery took place last night. My surgery was easy and straight forward, sleeve took 30 mins from rolling back to OR to when doc came and told my friend I was heading to recovery. I woke up from anethesia very very sick. I vomited a few times. And was shocked by the pain. Just a couple hours later I had figured out the morphene drip and was up and moving. I had many nurses who were really shocked by my willpower. One even said I looked like a visitor, not someone who just had surgery. I was released this morning at 10am, just 16 hours from when I had my surgery. I feel great. Went and got my meds filled and picked up some yogurt and soup. I am glad I had such a great recovery... That's one thing I was worried about.

    December 8th Sleevers......

What did you try to eat? I tried some soup that I strained and had four spoonfuls and was done it was heavily diluted with water too.I had puréed chicken...I had puréed turkey, chicken, and cod(which was actually better than it sounds) in the hospital, along with puréed carrots, peaches, applesauce, and Greek yogurt. I think I just tried eating too fast as well as to big a portion and it was too much. I have my tiny spoons from the program and am using those to help gauge my intake(doc wants # of those spoonfuls documented). I am more concerned at this point in getting my fluid intake but just received my protein soup broth from diet direct! Yeah, now I can do double duty!????????oh my......your ????were bigger than your tummy LOL.....I'm on liquids for 2 weeks ????The surgeons instructions for after VSG are liquids only first day and 2nd day for breakfast, and lunch and dinner second day puréed through the next two weeks...after two weeks soft foods and then transition. I did okay in the hospital, I guess I just really want to do whatever I can to meet goals and NOT end up back in. I think we are all feeling that way--I don't want to go through this again!
