    Cigna

Hi, I'm 4 weeks post op, had the sleeve at PennMed in NJ. I have Cigna and had a quick approval. The doctors office has to have all of the prerequisite properly documented. Also,a big help was a letter of medical necessity from my primary. The letter included my weight for 5 years and current health issues impacted by weight. Get familiar with your specific plan, call. CIGNA & ask questions. Follow up every 2 weeks until you get approved. Stay positive &Good luck.
  5. I don’t match either but much of what you will experience is individual anyway. We’re all different in how we recover, our pre existing medical conditions, genetics, age, gender, starting weight, length of time being overweight, etc. There will be similarities but also differences. @lizonaplane is correct. The amount of hair you lose & how long it persists is individual. Your natural hair loss cycle is accelerated from the shock of the surgery & weight loss & your initial low calorie intake. You really just have to ride it out. Keep up your protein (breaks down into the amino acids which grow hair & nails & aids skin health). Biotin only may make your new growth hair stronger not help your body grow more hair. How much loose skin you have is influenced by factors like age (skin loses elastin as you age), how much weight you lose & how long you were overweight, & genetics (luck of the gene pool). It won’t all go away. Once your skin is stretched out, & after whatever bounce back you may get has passed, that’s it. Think of an old hair band stretched out from overuse. Your skin is the same. Some say weight training can help to fill in the loose skin with muscle but depends on how much muscle you want. I carried my obese weight for about 3 or 4 years so not really that long. When I got down to my usual overweight range I had very little loose skin (little pinches) but when I got to my lowest weight I had lots more (big pinches). Still not a lot really especially considering my age & it’s easily hidden under my clothes including body con dresses. No surgery for me. You tend to lose weight in the same way you put on & carried your weight. If you carried more of your weight in your tummy it will likely be the last place you’ll lose it in comparison. I carried my weight pretty evenly: thighs, butt, tummy, breasts. Benefit of an hour glass figure I guess & I lost it much the same even way. Take regular body measurements to track your weight loss too. Sometimes it shows on a tape measure before it does on the scales. I went from a 18E to a 10E (pretty empty upper breasts now though). Remember an E cup on a size 18 is much bigger than a size 10 one so while the cup size is the same my breasts are smaller.

    Going back to work

I ran into someone I used to work with & I was 42kgs (92lbs) lighter & they never said a word. I was a bit amused but some people don’t want to mention things they consider so personal like your weight. Or they’re just super unobservant 😆😆. You could just say you’ve taken the time not being in the office to change how you eat & be healthier which is true & change the subject if you want.

    Headaches after Bypass Surgery

Sorry you’re experiencing these headaches. Out of curiosity did you have to do the 2 week shake pre surgery diet? If you didn’t or only did it for a couple of days, you could be experiencing headaches because of withdrawal from caffeine, sugar, etc. Also hormones are released from your fat as you lose weight so you may be experiencing hormonal headaches. Just suggestions of other possible causes. Check with your medical team re tea. I was allowed green or herbal tea only. I was a green tea drinker so I really enjoyed the cup I had every day after surgery. 🙂. Hope the headaches abate soon but if they persist call your medical team.
  9. I don't match your demographics (I'm 5'3", 41, starting weight 280, no PCOS, and I can't imagine having a goal for my bra size LOL), but I can try to give you some general information from what I've seen on here. The amount of hair people lose varies a lot, but no lotion or potion or supplement you take is going to fix it. It will start and stop on it's own UNLESS you don't get your protein and multivitamin in on a daily basis, and then the hair loss will be worse. People will swear by biotin, but there is no evidence, and increasing your biotin can cause weird liver function test results. You are young, so you have that on your side as far as loose skin. But again, it varies a lot. Like hair loss, there is NOTHING other than plastic surgery you can do to fix loose skin. No lotions or potions or supplements will help, nor will exercises. Focus on getting healthy, wait a few years after surgery to decide if you NEED plastic surgery. One thing to do in the meantime: if you have rashes or infections from your lose skin as you lose weight, document this with pictures and have your doctor document this in your chart because there is a possibility that your skin surgery could be covered by insurance if there is a documented medical need. I'm 8 weeks out from surgery, and my stomach has gone down, but it is still larger than I'd like. However, this again will vary. I carry a lot of weight in my stomach; some people carry more weight in their thighs and butt or in their chest. I will say that for many of the people whose pictures I have seen, you can notice it in the face before anywhere else. Good luck on this journey!

    Psych Meds after Gastric Bypass

@lizonaplane congratulations on ur weight loss, extended release medication would be a problem for people like me that did the bypass because of the anatomical changes down. You should not have any issues. I would still suggest to speak with your surgeon.

    Psych Meds after Gastric Bypass

8 weeks out and I am mentally stable so far. Not sure I'm thrilled about having done the surgery, since it's now really unpleasant to eat and I'm hungry all the time. But the weight loss is very good - down 25lbs since surgery. I had sleeve, none of my meds are extended release, but I take a lot of meds because I have bipolar and anxiety. The only med I've changed is that I'm stopping the topamax which I took for migraines because I haven't had any migraines since surgery. I would highly recommend working with a psychopharmacologist if you take a lot of psych meds and are thinking about WLS. There's a lot to consider.

    Going back to work

if it's been 18 months, I bet a lot of "normies" would believe you if you said you lost it on your own. That's over a year, so.... My first year or two out I told normal weight people that I was working with a dietitian, low carbing, and exercising like a fiend. Skinny people believe that schlock. I was honest with other obese people, though. But yea - after 18 months, it would be entirely believable by most people that you did it via diet and exercise, since that calculates out to 3-4 lbs per month

How to Stop Grazing? Please Help!

Thanks. This just feels so weird to me. It's like I got to goal weight and now I'm eating all day. It's like someone flipped the switch and it just happened. I want to eat and I do. But it's like a few carrots here or some nuts there. I never had this during the first 6 months. I ate at meal time, was full and, I was done. I didn't even think about food. Actually, i would have to remember to eat something because i might not be hungry at the next meal time. It just changed one day in october. And now I think about eating often. But, I'm not hungry. Scares me though. Luckily I don't have anything bad or off plan in my house. I don't crave anything off plan. Just think about eating. I'm not bored or sad or anything like that. Life is busy and fulfilling.

    Lap band expiry date

Originally, LapBands were marketed as permanent and life-long. They are a medical grade device so they don't have an expiration date and do not require removal after a certain period of time. That being said, as the years have gone on, long term complication rates continue to go up, and there is documented research that indicates that they can degrade over time, usually starting around the 10 year mark. That is limited though, and varies widely. As such, many LapBand patients have opted to have them removed and move on to VSG or RNY as a permanent weight loss solution. If you are no longer happy with it, not using it, and/or having complications, definitely get in touch with a bariatric surgeon in your area and see what options you have for getting it removed.

    Going back to work

I am 7 weeks post-op and have lost around 45lbs from my highest weight. Recently, I saw some friends I hadn't seen since well before I started losing weight and who do not know I had WLS. They immediately noticed and commented on my weight loss, which made me terribly uncomfortable. They of course asked what I was doing and I simply stated I'm focusing on high quality protein and frequent, small meals because that's what my body seems to like best (all true). Then I quickly pivoted and asked how they were doing, blah blah blah. People LOVE to talk about themselves. Give them the chance, and they will run with it.

    6 Months and Stalled

So glad I have this forum...it has been so helpful that last 7 months. I am 7 months post op sleeve and have been at the same weight for exactly 6 weeks. I admit I have not been tracking my intake and have been "testing" lots of different foods now that I know I am fully healed which I am sure is the issue. I too have been losing hair for the past 2-3 months but this am i only had a half of hand of hair so there is some progress. It always nice to known I am not the only one going through this :) I also have not been walking due to the amount of light outside. This am I was finally able to walk again this am before work and I started tracking my food again so fingers crossed. I have consistently had an intake of 60-80gm of proteins a day and more than 80 oz of water daily.
  17. I wanna see if there is anyone who has similar demographics to me and what your outcomes were for the questions below the demographics. Height: 5'6 HW: 340 GW: 150 Age: Early 20's Diagnosed with PCOS Starting Cup Size: H Goal Cup Size: D or DD How much hair loss did you have after surgery? Did you have sagging skin after losing weight? If so, did it go away after a while without plastic surgery? If yes, what did you do to make it go away? Did your stomach go down with the rest of your body while losing weight or is your stomach still bigger than the rest of your body?
  18. I’m headed back into the office for the first time in 18 months and I am 60 pounds lighter. Not sure why I am so nervous but I guess I’m not sure what to say about my weight loss. No one at the office knows I had WLS. And you can’t really tell over zoom. Thoughts?
  19. LIke @Jaelzion, im a grazer. Its what i've got to do as I am limited as to what i can eat at one sitting...both during weight loss phase AND in maintenance (but more so in maintenance as a need to keep calories up) I'm 3 years post op (and been maintaining my current weight consistently for almost 2.5 years) and this way of eating hasn't (yet) resulted in any unintended weight gain. For ME it doesn't seem to matter how often or what I'm eating...just total calories...so it doesn't matter if eat 2000 cals in 3 meals or if its spread out in 15 small snacks throughout the the day....end result is still the same.

How to Stop Grazing? Please Help!

Hi there, Congrats on starting your journey. You make some good points for many folks on here to consider. I meet with a therapist once a month just to check in about how it's going. Hopefully everyone who goes through this process meets with someone during the process, not just for the initial clearance. I'm doing fine in the therapy realm. I should have clarified that I just meant when I was coming g down from the vacation high, I was feeling bored. That's not in general or why I'm grazing now. Good luck with your remodeling projects. I spent about 80% of my weekend redoing my walk-in closet. All big clothes out and smaller clothes in. I had gone "shopping in my closet" a couple times during the summer. I had smaller clothes packed in plastic totes from years ago when I was smaller. I had gone through a couple totes during the summer as I lost weight to pick out a few things to wear. But, now that it's cold out, I had to go through again because I had zero warm clothes to wear in my drawers or hanging in the closet. So, this weeknd I literally took everything out all the drawers, closet, and totes and switched everything because summer clothes that had fit now dont, I had to try on all the smaller winter clothes that were packed in totes, take summer clothes out the drawers and swap for warmer ones, and I had to buy some winter clothes. It was quite the weekend project to redo what's in drawers and hanging in closet. Totes were swapped out as well. So, no boredom for me. Quite a busy weeknd. Sadly, spent some money during the process also. I've tried to keep my clothes cost down. Luckily my smaller clothes were good quality so they are still in style and in good shape. Woohoo! All the best to you during your journey. Congrats on your weight loss so far. 😁

I know I'm late, but I just wanted to add... You are worth standing up for!!! You are worth your time and the time of others! Most of all you deserve respect! It's obvious that you have a big heart to allow them to be in your home when they are in need, that ALONE means they should be following your requests and then some! I hope you have kicked your ex completely to the curb and that you have been able to get back on track. It is so hard for a lot of us who have struggled with weight to not feel like we are deserving of good things, for me it is anyhow, but someone as kind as you deserves only the best things in life!!!!

How to Stop Grazing? Please Help!

I haven’t had surgery yet - I get it in December- but I have been binge watching my 600 pound life and I have learned a lot of tips and tricks but I also see on there people start grazing and gain eventually. Dr Now sends them to therapy to help them get back in track and some of them go back to the liquid stage to reset themselves. But the therapy always seems to work - we all eat and got to the point of needing the sleeve for some reason. I’ve been working on my hard before I have the surgery and I’ve lost 11 pounds the past month just by understanding why I’m using food to cope. Mine is mostly boredom and anxiety I have severe anxiety and while I adore my husband of 20 years he is actually the main source of my anxiety which surprised me. He is one of those people who is passive aggressive and always negative. I honestly had no idea until therapy and I have a Masters degree in psychology lol. So if you can I would try therapy see if it helps. Also our food away so you can’t see it - try doing something instead like painting or knitting, go stand in the porch and get some fresh air until it passes. I have been remodeling my walking closet/laundry room and bathroom. I sometimes only do it for a few minutes even if I don’t feel like it I push myself because not feeling like it is why I am now needing the surgery - at least one of the reasons. You’ve got this and you’ve hit the goal weight! Remember what you felt like before surgery and how you feel now. Is that carrot or whatever really worth it?! Good luck and congratulations on hitting goal! I can’t wait to be there with you!!!

    Post op day 2

I have researched it like crazy it took me over a year of research to decide to even do this - I am right on the BMI boarder but I’m type 2 diabetic and my two uncles were juvenile diabetic my Dad died (very thin and very active) at 59 due to diabetes. I have tried everything - I went vegan for about 6 months before covid hit and got my diabetes under control and weight low but I broke my talas bone and did a third grade tendon tear in my left ankle September 2020 which isn’t healing and prevented me from walking much so there went the weight and the sugars. So I’m getting the sleeve to get the weight off and then I can get the surgery on my ankle. I actually love Warrior Brand Protein powder it is vegan but I’ve used it for years. The protein is 28 grams I use it to make banana nice cream and all kinds of stuff now - have for about 2 years. I’m going to get a few others just to have but the Warrior protein powders are not sweet so it may be a good option for me. I am not going to stock up at first other than sugar free G2 and vitamin water once I see what I like my husband will go get stuff for me. Also I’m making broth and soups and freezing them in ice cube trays so I have a variety and can just pop them in the microwave. I’ve been watching my 600 pound life - driving my poor husband crazy - but I’ve gotten great tips from that show plus seeing people not loose or gain and why so I don’t make those mistakes. My life really depends on getting the diabetes under control I am 53 so not far off from when my dad died. I’ve had 2 siblings already die 32 and 59 so it kicks my family in the butt.

How to Stop Grazing? Please Help!

just wanted to say I can relate - and my weight has headed up a little (a couple of lbs - but I need to rein this in before it becomes a real problem). Right now I'm just trying to find ways to stay out of the house in the afternoons, when the temptation is the strongest. Whatever it takes...
  25. Hello All, I had my sleeve surgery exactly 7 months ago. Have done great with weight loss and no complications. I had my 6 month follow up last month, and surgeon said I was doing great. He asked if I was hungry, I said no. Fast forward just 2-3 days, and I started grazing. It has gone on for 3 weeks now and in scared. I'm not hungry. I can graze even after meals when I feel full. It's like a few bites of fruit or almonds or now its carrots. I weigh daily which isn't an emotional issue for me. It's just a check. I am at goal so I'm not trying to lose more, but I'm not wanting to use grazing to maintain weight either. I was going to ask at my 8 month follow up appt next month, what should I do to stop losing and just maintai. Looks like I've found it. But, I dont want grazing to be the answer. For those of you who had challenges with grazing, how did you stop it? Mine is totally mental. It started after my first true vacation in october. I did great with staying on plan during the trip. When I got back home, I felt the "back home from vacation" letdown and maybe even a little boredom. Then I started grazing. I need to stop. I'm scared because my restriction is a little less, and I don't want to trigger a bad habit. It's been 3 weeks. Please share what helped you stop. P.S. Yes, I'm alerting my dietitian today also. But, you all can share lived experience of what helped you stop. Thanks!
