Waking up suddenly ....what is this?
bonita19 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am about 17 days post~op and doing great for the most part. I am on week 2 of full liquids. Tonight I woke up two times suddenly with this rushing/gushing feeling in my mouth. Not sure how to best describe it but it almost felt like a burst of bubbles rushing up my throat. It startled me awake and scared the living day lights out of me! I didn't feel like I needed to throw anything up and there didn't really seem to be a bunch of liquid in my mouth although it made me want to sip a little water. Anyone else have this? What is it? -
Previous DVT? High risk I know..anyone else get sleeve with this prior diagnosis?
HeatherSchwartz posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a DVT years and am supposed to be on coumadin but havent taken it in at least a couple years. The PTO was never right and I couldnt afford to go see dr. every single week. Im told this makes me high risk. I know blood clots are serious business. Anyone else out there that has had the surgery and previously diagnosed with blood clots? -
Darcey, I am so glad that you were well taken care of. This has really shaken me because I am 6 weeks post- banding and I am going to be filled next week. But my appetite is out of control and I'm eating way too much. I don't even know that I have a band.
-
DeeJay, I was surprised, too at just how small a sip had to be. Don't worry, you will be able to guzzle again soon enough. Just give it some time. A sippy cup will work great! Or you could just use a small liquid med cup. Holding that little thing helps you to remember to slooooow down! Darcey, how are you? Feeling okay? I, like others, am concerned about my own risk for slippage. Anything you can post here would be SOOO appreciated! Right now, my fill is pretty tight, even after my unfill. It's $200 for another unfill, so I'd rather avoid it. So my plan is to just eat around the band for a little while longer, like doing mushies and soft solids for a few more weeks until things loosen up a bit. I keep trying to eat like a big girl bandster with my solid protiens and end up stuck or PBing. Too tight!!! I know that things loosened up post-surgery enough for me to need a fill, so I'm banking on the same happening with this fill. But your slippage DOES have me concerned for myself. I'd much rather spend 200 buckaroos on another small unfill than to lose my band by not thinking with my mind, as you said, and letting the band bite back several times a week with a good PB. I dunno. Hanging on your every word and any piece of advice you want to pass along for us!!

samsmom replied to Lucabelle1313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lucabelle, my stall lasted 10 weeks....altho the scale didn't move, my clothes were fitting looser so I know I was losing inches. I was 6 months postop when that stall happened:( Hang in there...you're only 3 weeks out! -

Today I'm 3 weeks post off which means I am now eating soft foods. Every time that I eat beans, I get a pain in my back right underneath my shoulder blade. I've also noticed this pain if I have eaten too fast. What is it? Gas? Thanks!

It’s never too late to try something new and exciting! Make It a Healthy Autumn: A Few Tips for Parents – and Other Busy RNYTalk.com Members! Okay, we know that the autumn is a busy time of year. If you’re a parent, your children are back in school and their activities are in full swing. You may be juggling work with your chauffeuring, catering and cleaning business – aka, taking care of your family! Most of us are pretty busy even if we’re not parents. It’s easy to use not having enough time as an excuse for getting off track with your weight loss. You might eat foods that you know you shouldn’t because you feel you just can’t squeeze in the time to prepare a healthy snack. We’ve all done it. You rush out the door in the morning and are busy all day. Some of these happen along the way. You are starving by lunchtime and grab a few truffles that give you severe dumping syndrome. You go by the vending machine for a soft drink that’ll make you feel sick within minutes. You realize at the end of the day that you haven’t stopped to drink for hours, and you have a headache and your stomach hurts. You know you should be eating lean Protein, but the closest thing you can find is pepperoni from the company’s pepperoni pizza – so to be polite, you eat the entire slice and it causes an obstruction. You start to depend on Protein shakes because those are the closest thing to a healthy meal that you can find at the company cafeteria. You don’t have to let a hectic schedule get in the way of your health! What can you do about it? Here are a few tips to make the most out of every day Prepare some of your meals and Snacks at the beginning of the week. Wash your fruits and vegetables so they’re easy to prepare when you need them. Cook some your Proteins - chicken breast, fish, seafood, lean beef and/or veggie burgers – and freeze them in single-serving baggies or containers. Cook up bigger batches, put them in single-serving containers and freeze them so you can defrost them when you’re ready to eat them. This is a great option for healthy side dishes, such as whole wheat Pasta, carrots or Beans. (You don’t have to make too much, since your single portions post-surgery are pretty small). Place snacks in single-serving bags if you buy a multi-serving package Plan your Breakfast the night before so you don’t have to think about it in the morning. Take the time to make a grocery list. It’ll save you time in the end. Using a list will keep you from forgetting foods and needing to go back to the store during the week. You’ll be faster in the store because you won’t get distracted. Sticking to a list will keep you from buying foods you shouldn’t. Buy ingredients for breakfast Buy snack foods Make sure you drink enough. Stash Water bottles in your car and at work and keep them filled. It’ll encourage you to drink throughout the day and you won’t have to take the time to run to the kitchen each time you need to drink. Stick a pitcher of water in the fridge so you see it several times a day. Keep healthy snacks at work so you never find yourself starving with nothing healthy to eat. Beef Jerky and canned tuna, chicken, beans, vegetables keep for months. Frozen foods to consider keeping around include grilled chicken and fish, veggie burgers and vegetables. Yogurt, low-fat cheese, cottage cheese and deli meats are high-protein snacks to keep in the fridge for a week or more. The more you plan, the better off you’ll be. You’ll save time and be more likely to eat well. And remember – you’re worth it! We suggest picking one or two strategies and working on them until you master them, then moving on to a new tip. Let us know how helpful the tips are! That’s a lot to chew on for this newsletter, so we’re going to end it here. There’s no end to the news, tips and conversations over at RNYTalk.com, so come on over via your computer, smartphone or Kindle! I went away for a week and a half and was terrified to get on the scale. I knew I had eaten pretty well but hadn't worked out at all. To my pleasant surprise in 2 weeks I had lost 4.5 pounds. I hope you get a nice surprise. If not, as said above, just get back to what you were doing before vacation. Best wishes! Let us know how the scale treated you lol.

Bad Bad Girl...
Sassygirl06 replied to michelleooo513's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find that I can eat anything that I want, but I have defiantly slowed down in weight loss. I just broke a three month stall and lost nine pounds this month so I am thrilled! You can have anything you want, but just don't go overboard. -
BAD stall- almost 5 mths out...
lessofmevsg replied to mi75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I literally feel like I have stalled since week 2. I'm now week 7. I lost 11 pounds week 1. Then 4 pounds week 2. Weeks 3-7 I've lost 7.8 pounds. I know I should be happy but honestly this has been 4 weeks of the scale not moving then moving down a pound only to move up 1.7 etc.... UGH. I'm truly wanting to throw away my scale. I've had the thoughts like, ok I lost a bunch at first and my body is catching up. But honestly. It's so frustrating seeing the scale say the same thing over and over. I have gotten smaller. I wish I had taken measurements ????. I started a size 22 and wore a size 18 to work today. My heaviest weight was 264 Surgery weight was 259 Current weight 237.2 I eat every 2 hours, mostly all Protein. I do have granola in my yogurt. Is there too many carbs? I have fish or chicken for lunch and cottage cheese for snack. I've quit Protein shakes (unless I can't get food with a busy schedule) as my literature from my surgeon says to try and stay away from drinking protein. And I really do get enough. 60-90 grams a day. I'm wondering if anyone out there is having struggles like mine? Will I eventually see a significant drop??? I'm happy don't get me wrong, I have no regrets. I think I'm impatient is all. -
Good luck on yor first day back to work. I am a nurse in the ER. I took one week off and hen went back. I also work over night. Make sure you have a glass or bottle of water and every time you get a chance drink a few sips. Make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Also remember you can not eat as fast as you use to. Those were a few things that I ran into when I went back to work full time. Hope your shift ones well.

Sounds pretty normal. Week 3 is pretty fresh in my mind (week 6 for me) I had days just like you describe. For me, I think those days where a result of my body just not having enough calories in the previous days and wanted a rest. Usually I was up and able the next day to start on getting my liquid and protein in. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

Tired of Explaining
bmooney364 replied to LollyMoe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain. I am constantly being ask how much weight have you lost now? Sometimes by a person who ask me the same question 2 days ago. I have just started telling those people I don't know. I don't weigh every day and leave it at that. They usually let it go. It is annoying esp. since I seem to be at a stand still. I think if I were losing 5lbs a week I would probably be more than happy to tell everyone I meet. -
My tummy sometimes gurgles, but not anything too crazy or loud. my burping only occurs after I've eaten, and not really all that often (maybe once a day). Immediately after surgery for about two weeks I did burp A LOT, but that was due to the gas they fill you with. I did get my first case of the hiccups yesterday, which for some is a warning sign that your pouch is full. I am 23 and got banded last month. Recovery was pretty quick and painless. Right now I am "dieting" (weighing foods, counting calories, etc) because I am pretty unrestricted and could probably eat anything. I have lost about 35 since a couple weeks pre-op and feel great.

It is very common for peope to react to staples, the skin gets red and can be quite itchy. The concern is if you have any drainage from the wound that looks purulent (yellow/green/creamy), if you are running a fever, or if the wound is hot to the touch and inflamed . Did the doctor tell you to put antibiotic cream on them? Usually they are best left alone if they are healing well. Covering them in Neosporin and bandages just makes a "soup" out of the bad stuff. But if s/he directed you to do that, then I'm sure it's fine. Though staples are not my favorite, the surgeon I consulted with this week described to me the surgical technique for skin closure and why staples are preferable to other methods. The center I'm going to has had only one infection, and that was a mild one at the port site that cleared with oral antibiotics. I'm going to have to trust him. But I still dont' want staples...

Sleeve Post-Op Experiences?
aug62012 replied to Kris10b's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had surgery 4 weeks ago, I have lost 30 pounds and would do it again in a heartbeat. You can go back to work in 2 weeks but I decided to take 4 weeks off. I stayed 1 night in hospital. Took pain medicine for 5 days then stopped. Worst part was the hour after surgery before morphine kicked in and gas pain in shoulder. -
My boyfriend and I have been sexually active for a little over a month now. This is the first time I've been active since I was 17 and I'm now 27. I'm not a very "experienced" person. I just recently had a fill on 4/3 and I'm already now starting to eat more. Before I was active, I wouldn't notice an increase in my eating until about a month after my fill. It's already 4/21? My weight has stalled for the past week now. I get kind of confused with the EPT home pregnancy tests where it tells you to take so many days after your missed period. I've been irreglar for as long as I can remember so I really don't know when to take it. I've tried taking the test a week before my period and a week after my period and it gives a negative. I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I feel bloated all the time and I feel like I've gained all my weight that I've already lost. Is that some of the early signs of pregnancy? I don't want to be pregnant right now but would be happy if I turned out to be. I'm not on any birth control. I had a bad experience when I was younger with birth control and wound up gaining a lot of weight so I vowed never to take the pill again. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Back to work
Reigo replied to stephanie.ahring0505's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am fortunate to feel great. I went to work one and a half weeks after surgery (had surgery wed, returned to work on a mon). I think the fact that I can consume 800-1000 calories helps my energy levels and I eat throughout the day so energy doesn't dip. I am going to bed earlier (10pm) but I used to stay up until 1-2am so that's my most notable difference. What is your calorie intake? -
Tricking ourselves back to weightloss land
Mrs Husker replied to Jeni 85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know that it has been awhile and I wanted to send you all an update. I really don't remember what I posted last, so this might be a recap also. I did my 5 weeks of 5 days a week radiation (it sucked, it just zaps all your energy) and I did one day of chemo each week. That infusion was only 3 hours long. After that was done, I continued with chemo, but it went to only once every three weeks and was three time as strong and took 5 hours. I was giving Adivan to make me sleep through it and that was nice. Two weeks to the day after the first triple infusion, I lost all my hair. This includes my eyelashes, eyebrows and the hair up my nose. When I say all hair, I mean ALL of it. I just started wearing hats since its gone cold but before I just went around bald. You get the best service when you are a bald woman. I mean it. At restaurants there is no wait, in the store everyone wants to help you. So in a why it's been kind of fun. I still hate looking in the mirror, but soon my hair will be back and I will look like my old self. Had my last chemo on Sept 24 and will be going in for scans on Oct 23 getting the results back on Oct 26. Keeping my fingers crossed that it they show no evidence of disease. Still working, but I gave up cleaning my house. Was able to do some canning this year and that makes me happy as I love gardening and canning. Granted, I had to cut the garden back by half as I knew I would not be able to keep up with it. All, in all, I think I am doing fine and kicking cancers butt. I will let you know what the scans show after I get the results. I was unfilled at the beginning of this process and I've put on about 15-20 lbs, but with all the drugs and the fact the only things I could eat were not the best choices (mashed potatoes with corn became a staple because everything else tasted really bad), I don't think I did too bad. Once all the drugs are out of my system I am hoping to start walking again. I have to build up my strength and stamina. Brightest of blessings, Barb
