    Vegetarian breakfast ideas

Well, I eat chicken breast for breakfast most days, but that is probably not appealing to you I would suggest: Greek yogurt with some PB2 or peanut butter stirred in, cottage cheese with salsa, salad dressing, or peanut butter, any kind of eggs (my favorite!). A small amount of refried beans with cheese is a little higher carb but filling and has good protein, too. I also like veggie burgers (the kind from Morningstar Farms and similar).

    Eating

I'm only 10 days out , and am allowed mushy foods now. I can eat a whole egg or 4 oz yogurt without discomfort.

I eat: String cheese Dannon light and fit yogurt (2 a day probably) P3 (for breakfast) lunch is usually a small chili or bacon chicken ranch salad from Wendy's with light ranch. Or a Subway Turkey chop salad with fat free ranch. banana berries mandarin oranges hummus apples with cashew butter or almond butter I don't do well with meat. I started putting it in Myfitness pal today as per the request of the NP.

    Liquid diet preop ?

This is my routine....I have to have strength All liquid is not going to work because I am hypoglycemic and on meds,He prescribes a soft food diet 2 to 4 shakes You can have cottage cheese or non sugared Greek yogurt or high protein cream of wheat...must be watery. For dinner I have soup ( no lumps,no sugar)or steamed spinach in broth with a small piece of steamed fish in miso broth. The first 3 days I could literally die...I am approaching the 5 th day and ok...no headaches but body aches and sleepiness ...drinking as much water as I can.
  6. If you want it creamy, you'll want to use a mixer. I think the mouth feel will be more like the real deal. You'll also want to add sweetener in order to minimize the formation of ice crystals when you freeze it. Well, not sure how that works with sugar free. Sugar crystals do that job, but I'm not sure if it's the crystal or the added ingredient. This person gives some great tips on making frozen yogurt.
  7. I think that would be great. I've put yogurt into my ice cream maker before and it came out great. I did just a vanilla greek yogurt and some chopped up strawberries. It was great
  8. You probably don't need an ice cream mixer for that recipe. With that recipe you probably just blend/process the yogurt with the protein powder and freeze. I'm sure it will taste great!
  9. I asked for an ice cream maker for Christmas. I found a recipe for frozen yogurt.. 6 oz yogurt 1-2 scoops of Protein drink mix Has anyone ever made it?

    Cereal

I just hit (and am now below) goal, but For a couple months now I have had a couple tablespoons of granola on my Greek yogurt almost every day. I buy either "Bear Naked" or "Kind" brand granolas that have higher Protein and lower carbs/sugar than most and are not as processed. Now, I usually have my yogurt for an evening snack, so if I had something earlier in the day that put me higher in calories and/or carbs than I would like, I cut back or leave off the granola. For me, regular Cereal with milk is a huge trigger, so I am not planning on having that anytime soon, if ever. But I do fine with the granola.

    Cereal

I add grapefruits to my Greek yogurt for crunch. I also eat shredded wheat dry. I snack on it occasionally (handful). wheat thins - that's a favorite and I stay away from them.
  12. Hi Tera1982 I didn't know we could have cottage cheese at this time. Maybe I misunderstood but I thought it was supposed to be liquids only for 2 weeks. Could the cottage cheese be doing it? If not I would love to eat some cottage cheese @ this time I'm on the liquids only. Protein shakes, jello, yogurt (no chunks of fruit), broth, isopure & strained cream of chicken soup. That has been it for me. Hope you get better soon.
  13. Last night I looked at my loseit app and saw I was at 55 grams of Protein for the day. I quickly downed a Protein shake and some Greek yogurt. Afterwards, I was thinking about pre opt. Being a guy who ate salads all week, I'm sure I went several days without getting 72 grams. How come I need to worry about it now?

Appetite suppressants (prescribed) 2 years out...

So far acid has not been a problem for me but I know from my lapband days how much that discomfort can contribute to bad choices. I would have an afternoon ice cream or frozen yogurt to soothe myself..... there are better ways to address it so really glad to hear your surgeon is investigating that. In the meantime, are you on a PPI?

    Dairy stops weight loss?

There is something about Greek yogurt that is so beneficial...

    Dairy stops weight loss?

If it weren't for dairy products I would likely starve (or at least I would have in the first few months postop). I eat 1-2 cheese strings daily, Greek yogurt every morning for breakfast, and my daily protein contains milk. 6 months out and hit my goal weight this morning! 103 lbs lost, so I'm going to keep eating dairy here!!

    OCTOBER 2014

Weight wise I'm at 151 and don't seem to stop losing weight. I was happy with 160. I do try to eat more but I am so busy with all the holiday stuff, I noticed lately I eat even faster. We are talking 5 minutes. In desperation I have tried to eat while I drive because i am sitting there I figure it will naturally slow me down. But my car is going to get (is already) messy. Try eating yogurt and drive. Not easy. My new thing is nuts because I can chew them slowly while I drive. Now my floor looks like a squirrel has a storage facility between my seat and the center console. Some do fall, lol. Lots of peps that have not seen in a while comment on my amazing transformation. That does feel good. I still love my surgery but need to manage my eating a little better.
  18. I am 3 1/2 weeks post op. I have never been one to nap and usually have good energy. However, for the last week and a half (since I went on pureed foods) I am struggling. Yesterday I slept so much I missed a meal and some liquids. I am bone tired. I am out of work until the beginning of January so I have time on my hands. This morning I slept until 1030. Usually I'm up by 730. I am taking all my Vitamins. I admit Protein has been a bit of a struggle so I have gone back to one Protein shake a day with added greek yogurt to up the protein grams. I am pretty close to 60 grams a day as recommended. I have been Water jogging with weights every day except today when I went in to lie down for about a half and hour and wound up sleeping 3 and a half hours. This is so not me. Anyone else experience this?

    Cereal

Yes cereal for me is not a trigger food. I think I am just missing the sweet crunch. I may just add some granola to my greek yogurt for now and eventually if I want a serving with some Fairlife milkor something I will have it. I was thinking more in the long run anyway. Right now I'm only 4 weeks out and still on softs. Was more of a just wondering kind of question but thank you everyone! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

    Smoothies

Genepro protein powder is the best! It is odorless and tasteless. I order mine from Amazon and I make smoothies with it and I mix it in my yogurt and hot chocolate. Doesn't change the taste or texture at all.

    Cereal

I went through a phase where I added a little Kashi cereal (the highest protein option) to my Greek yogurt in the afternoons before I worked out. The little burst of carbs helped me get through my run, but it was still a high protein snack. A bowl of cereal with milk? Seems like a big waste of space with not enough protein.
  22. Ughhh, I was sleeved 12/08/15. I was having a rough time with fluids and protein but the past few days was getting better. Yesterday, I threw up...ALOT. I tried to just concentrate on staying hydrated and thought my new tummy just didn't like something I ate and figured I try again tomorrow(which is now today). I did good with fluids and breakfast and now, shortly after lunch, vomit-city! I called my surgeon immediately and they said to skip dinner and focus on fluids, it is most likely something I ate not agreeing. I'm starting to think my new tummy only likes Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and sugar-free Popsicles. Anyone else have issues like this? It sucks. Although, I have lost 14 pounds in 8 days(went to another doc appointment today).

The fear of regain is REAL!

Sleeved Oct. 14: Having so much trouble trying to find healthy food that i can tolerate. I've been living on veggie beef or veggie ground turkey soups, hot cereal, legumes and grits. Other than that I can seem to tolerate only crunchy cracker/cookie type foods. I have tried and tried to learn to be able to eat yogurt/cottage cheese without hurling but i have not been able to. I tried tofu too. I can't eat raw veggies yet (will i ever be able to?) I did manage a cucumber sliced very thin and chewed to infinity. I know that eating peanut butter crackers is not going to get me to goal. I wish I could tolerate eggs again. I miss them. I do eat hard cheese in small amounts but find myself reaching for the crunchies because I want something quick and innocuous to eat. Any suggestions? I just want to eat like a normal human being #sotiredofdieting

    Dairy stops weight loss?

No, no, and no. Read all the pseudoscience and quack natural theories you want, no legitimate science will ever link dairy and stalls. Not only is dairy okay (if you are lactose intolerant, you can get lactose filtered milk, and yogurt/cheese go through fermentation that can reduce lactose reaction), but it's a GREAT way to get both calcium and protein without the carbs.

    A few pre-op questions

    1. First question may be a bit silly and I know everyone has their own unique experience, but I'm wondering what to expect on the actual day of surgery. For some reason the surgery itself doesn't make me nervous because I know I have an excellent doctor, but being put to sleep makes me a little nervous. Also, I'm nervous that I'll wake up into excruciating pain.. Is this the case ? Either way I know eventually it will all be a minor detail but I'm just curious to see how others have reacted to surgery. For my surgery, I was wheeled into the operating room, had a few pleasantries with the staff, then bam woke up in the recovery room. No mask being put on my face, no slow fading out . . . I was just there chatting with people one second, then the next second woke up. When I woke up I did have pain in my shoulder (from the surgical gas) but I wouldn't call it excruciating. My team did an excellent job on pain control the whole time I was there. It wasn't a big deal. 2. My second question has to do with hair loss. Is there anything I can do from now to prevent my hair from falling out/ thinning. I know getting in my Protein is key, but is there anything else I can do? No, there isn"t anything you can do to prevent it. Don't waste your money on massive amounts of biotin or some sort of special shampoo. It will either happen or it won't. There are good ways you can cut and style your hair, as well as cosmetic tricks, to hide hair loss if you get a severe case of it. Usually the hair loss starts around month 3 and stops and the hair starts growing back somewhere around month 6. 3. My third question has to do with excess skin. Again I know each person is different and there are many factors to this. My question is did anyone find that toning exercises or any kind of body butters/lotions help at all? No. If there were some sort of magic trick to prevent excess skin, no one would need plastic surgery because word would spread and everyone would do it. The thing is, you already have the skin you have. You can't prevent it, it's already there. If having excess skin is going to bother you a lot, start saving your pennies for plastic surgery now. 4. My fourth and final question has to do with pregnancy after being sleeved. I don't plan on starting a family for another 4-5 years but I'm curious if the sleeve has affected anyone's pregnancy.. Did anyone find it hard to take in the proper nutrients ? Was it hard to bounce back from pregnancy? Did any complications that may not be obvious arise due to the sleeve? I haven't had personal experience, but my sister (a physician) says that pregnant women require an extra 300 calories per day to nourish the fetus, plus a prenatal vitamin. It's not hard to get 300 calories per day. Make a protein shake with whole milk and a tablespoon of peanut butter and you are just about there. Or eat a handful of nuts twice a day. Instead of having yogurt for breakfast, have scrambled eggs with cheese and avocado, plus eat a couple slices of dried mango for an after-dinner snack. Trust me, once most sleevers get a year or two out of surgery, they don't have trouble adding in 300 calories. They have trouble *not* adding in 300 calories when they don't need to! You'll be fine
