    Cant sleep// scared

Hi KeKe, I was feeling like this and the day of my surgery I was relieved and scared at the same time. My highest weight was 316 lbs I'm 35 years old and I have tried everything but surgery to loose weight, and even though my lifestyle is different I don't look back a single day . The sleeve is the best surgery I could have ever done. My wife had it as well and the smile and look on her face every time she talks to me,and the excitement she has now about going out with her friends makes me smile even more. I knew that if we both had the surgery we could share a closer bond than we had,and we do.... So sit back remain calm and get ready for the best lifestyle change you will ever make.
  3. Hey everyone, I am one week post op and still in the full liquid phase. My weight is kinda creeping off and I think its bc what I'm eating isn't all that high in Protein (tomato Soup, Jello, pudding, etc.). I do drink a protein meal drink for Breakfast but that's all my surgeon wants me to drink as far as Protein shakes go...I'm looking for ANY suggestions on full liquid options with more protein... Hi! Newbie here!

Hi Bully Momma! First I'd just like to say that I am also a proud bully momma ! Lol Anyway, my boyfriend and I will be going in for surgery together. He was approved right away about 6 months ago however I was not and my insurance required that I do 6 months of support groups. My boyfriend decided that this was something he wanted to do together and began to go to the support groups with me so that he could also educate himself as much as possible before the big day. So here I am about 6 months later finishing up my support groups on January 7th, going for my work up on the 13th and then waiting to hear from my insurance company. For a while I couldn't decide between the sleeve and the band but with the help of these forums I decided that the sleeve would be best for me. I was told I'd be going in for surgery around mid February but I'm hoping for early February lol.. Either way I'm just so happy to begin this journey and I feel so lucky to be able to share the ups and downs with someone I love! Good luck to you I can't wait to hear more about your journey I definitely want to connect with other women as I'm sure men and woman probably have different experiences! xo. Btw I'm 5'4 and my starting weight is 275
  5. Thank you for sharing your story and congrats on your weight loss! keep up the hard work and keep us posted!:crying:
  6. I agree with putting the scales where they are hard to use. I don't have scales at home, but I work in a clinic where there are scales in every exam room. I have one specific scale that I use for my "official" weight and it is not always available. Not to say I don't get on it a couple of times a week, but I officially weigh every Monday morning and that is my guage of weight loss. That is when I update my ticker. It is about health, but I've been skinny and I've been fat, and skinny is better. I can't wait to get there again...not skinny, but much smaller than I was Kathe
  7. yes. I'm hypo. I've lost 157lbs from my recent high of 287lbs. I'm in normal BMI and weight range and am my final Goal #3.

Im down 50 need to lose 30 fast!! HELP!!!

People can lose quickly on a liquid diet, but then you aren't allowing your band to work for you to help eliminate hunger. Cutting out carbs also helps for fast weight loss. Drinking tons of Water and spiking up with the exercise routine can help as well. 30 pounds in 7.5 weeks is not really a reasonable goal. That is 4 pounds a week . . . and the optimal range of weight loss is between 1-2 pounds a week. While it is possible to do it, it is not the healthiest of alternatives. Out of curiosity . . . what happens in 7.5 weeks? It must be something special :0)
  9. Awwww good luck in ALL u do....sorry to hear about the C but u can handle every thing thrown your way...With positive energy and prayers all will be well...I'll keep you in my prayers....i had a good laugh about your pant...thats a good thing... Continue success in your up coming surgeries...and see you on the skinnier side....Am five weeks out and the weight is falling off slow but sure....heres to my pants falling to my ankles

To Fill Or Not To Fill!

I think you need to evaluate your recent weight loss and your hunger in between meals. ( if you are still in the weight losss phase). How long does a meal that is solid food keep you satisifed. Are you making sure to not drink for one hour after a meal? How much did you lose since your last fill? Do you think you lost enough stomach fat that your band might have loosened? 6 oz of food depends on THE food. Six ounces of pizza is different than a meal that's 4 oz of meat and two oz of veggies. Be honest with yourself and I think you'll have the answer to if you need a fill.

Havent Worked Out In 2 Months

Many years ago I lived in a country other than the US where I had to walk everywhere. I hated walking in the snow and the rain but I was in excellent physical shape. After moving back to the US (driving everywhere), I gained 40 pounds in a year. I think that it helps to have physical movement an inherent part of daily life. So I do take the stairs rather than the elevator. I do park farther away and walk. It does make a difference. But I still find it challenging to push myself to go to the gym!

    Still waiting...

I went to see my hematologist last week, and did her tests. The tests came back and based on my understanding of the results, I only need a low dose of Coumadin post-op. yay! I've submitted my update to the dietitian, showing that I'm closer to meeting the guideline. I had a fun moment over the weekend. My nephew and I were sitting on opposite ends of the sofa on Saturday night. There were tons of bonfires and gatherings around the neighborhood. We were sitting there quietly, me playing on my iPhone and he was on his computer. Being funny I sent him a text challenging him to a dance-off on Just Dance. Without speaking, we got up, moved the furniture, and started up the Xbox. I love that game. We played for over an hour. I came close to beating him on one song... however, he stomped me on the rest of the songs. I still need to work up the courage to do the zumba games. As of today, I've been off soda, carbonation, and caffeine a week. In other news, I've lost enough weight to get back into some of my summer work blouses. They are a little snug, but they fit. I was so excited that I wore a blouse and slacks to the office today, however, the blouse is worn under a sweater, to help mask the bulging buttons at the belly. I was informed that I was looking pretty spiffed up and asked what the special occasion was. I was tempted to say something to the effect that I could fit back into the clothes. Instead, it was 'no reason, just felt like it'. I don't discuss my personal stuff at work. I can't wait until I hear back from the doc's office about setting an appointment with the surgeon.
  13. My surgeon says one year, but not because of the band or the surgery itself, but because you'll have a healthier pregnancy if you've lost the excess weight first, and you need that much time to lose the weight. If you don't care if you lose the weight first, I'd put off the surgery and have the baby now. You'll need complete unfill as soon as you find out you're pregnant anyway.
  14. I did it! I did it! During my initial appointment with the surgeon in July, he stated that I needed to lose another 15 lbs prior to surgery. My Pre-op appointment with him was yesterday. I've 16 lbs since my appointment with him in July, and I've been greenlighted for surgery next week. Yes, a week. I'm now at 7 days and counting. My nerves are a bundle, and my excitement is off the chart. I have lost over 30 lbs since my birthday at the end of MAY (in 3 months' time). That is crazy. No other attempt to lose weight has been this 1) consistent or 2) successful. I'm fitting back into my dress clothes that I bought last summer when I returned from working in Central America. Still need to drop another 50 lbs to be pre-knee injury/surgery weight... but I'm getting there. I now have less than 200 lbs before I hit my goal. Sorry, my thoughts are not cohesive today. Lots of things on my mind. I start my all liquid/no solids consumption tomorrow. To do pre-surgery list: 1) start all liquids (8/22) 2) do final blood draw (8/22-8/25) 3) pre-registration call with the hospital (8/26) 4) final pre-op nurse check-in/weigh-in (8/26) 5) get my POA documentation signed/notarized/filed (8/26) 6) review/go through 24 hour pre-op checklist (8/27) 7) pack for hospital stay (8/27) 8) stop all liquids by midnight (8/27) 9) show up to hospital (8/28) My leave of absence from work has been handled. My work is being temporarily transitioned to a co-worker while I'm gone... my nephew will be taking care of the house/dog/cat while I'm gone. I should see if my trainer will get a pic of me tonight when I go workout. That would be fun to see a difference, even from a few weeks ago. Waiting it the worst... patience is not my forte... sigh.
  15. I lost weight every single day for several weeks post op. Many people actually gain "weight" after their hospital stay. But it is literally "water weight". They pump you full of fluids before you go home to try to prevent dehydration because many of us have SO much trouble getting all our fluids in the first few days. In 99% of the time I say follow Drs advice it is for a reason. That is probably the reason. You definitely want to weigh at least once a week. By the time you are a week out much of that extra fluid should have come off. I weighed every morning for weeks or possibly months on end, and it was a really fun ride. I'm 9 months out and only losing 1-2 lbs per week now, but very happy with the resultS[emoji4]
  16. Thanks for the recommendation, i definetly will be looking into it. Another book that i read (i got the recommendation from this site) is Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band by Robert Sewell.

    Slow Weight Loss

Because you lost so much before surgery, it may just go slower for you. The only thing i can say is that i went through a 28 day stall (NO weight loss), and it was very frustrating. I was getting less calories than you and working out 5 times a week for an hour each time (cardio). Both my nut and my trainer told me to eat more and excercise less. I had never been told that in my life so i was shocked and scared. But i added 100, Protein heavy calories and took my work outs from 60 to 30 minutes. Within 3 days, the weight started dropping again. For me after than initial loss of 60lbs in 8 weeks, i slowed to between 5 and 10lbs per month on average. Now keep in mind there were months where I lost 0 and others where i lost 15. What is your current BMI? How close to goal are you? You lost alot of weight up from so you may simply be taking a break. Call your nut and see if she can make some recommendations. At 8 weeks post op i was no where near 800 calories. I simply could not eat enough within my 3 meals per day and ultimately i had to add Snacks like cheese & lunchmeat or shrimp. Looking at my fitness pal i was averaging around 450 so way under and exercising an hour a day. I would also say, i really stayed on the plan until i was about 8 months post op before i would even consider a taste of something I shouldn't have. Those things can certainly cause a stall to happen.
  18. Hi everyone, I'm Alexandra, gleefully looking forward to being banded on August 20. I live in Northern NJ and am an insurance broker, so maybe I'll be able to help with those types of questions. My story is an old one--obese since early childhood I've been over 200 lbs. since reaching my adult height of 5'10" at the age of 14. I've long ago come to terms with my size, but with the birth of my two children in the last five years I have found a whole new reason to lose weight. I'd never considered surgery before but last summer, when I realized I couldn't keep up with my growing children I started to look into RNY with lots of trepidation. Then I found out about the band and have NEVER looked back. A year later through lots of insurance mishegas I'm finally on the road to bandland. See you here! --Alexandra

    exercise and stalls?

Increase water and calories along with exercise. And consider a scale that measures lean and fat. Watching fat percentage go down is more productive than watching weight. Oh, and body measurements too. I'm eating 1600 calories daily now and losing weight. I'm 5'9" and 147 pounds (down from 237). I hope to end up eating close to 2000 per day, with an active lifestyle. I'm 7 months post op. I eat only Whole Foods--lots of veggies, lean protein, fruit, whole grains. Feeling fabulous and only 7 pounds from goal. Daily exercise is key for me.
  20. I lost 16 lbs for 8day post op check up. Then gained 3 lbs and have stopped there for 14 days. I am doing everything to the letter. Excercise 5x week, 4 oz meals, high protien, at least 64 oz water a day. I'm getting discouraged. Any advise?

    Ankle Surgery

Unfortunately today I had to get my second ankle surgery of the year, the first surgery I had back in January for my ankle it fixed my original problem but started a new one. The new problem was that there was a build up of cartilage in between my ankle joint and there was also a pinched nerve, So today in surgery they did an arthroscopy and cleaned out all the cartilage and cut the pinched nerve which means I will not have feeling on the one side of my ankle but the pain will not be there so I am not complaining!! I had surgery at about 7:30 this morning and got home around 11 so my pain was very high but I think I am slowly getting it under control it's just really hard to get comfy in bed since I cant lay my ankle certain ways! On a positive note this surgery will not affect the date of my weight loss surgery since there is enough time between them to heal from this one and get the anesthia out of my system. Also for the next two weeks I will have to give myself shots in the stomach to reduce my risk for blood clots since I have had a history of getting them. anyone who has had these shots before know how bad they burn so I am really not looking forward to it these next two weeks!! Then as soon as get off them I'll have to do them again for the weight loss surgery! Hopefully I won't have to do them as long for that surgery! Well today's entry photo is a lovely picture of my orange wrapped leg! Also here is what I ate and am going to eat today since I am doing this entry super early! Breakfast: nothing since I couldn't eat before surgery Lunch: - Bagel - Cream cheese Snack: - Pretzels - String cheese Dinner: - Spaghetti - Turkey meatballs

    Kaiser Bureaucracy...

I am going through Kaiser Richmond and had my surgeon and psych appointment in two weeks ago. I am at goal weight so I will see the CM next week. So far everyone at Kaiser has been great. I think once you get in to see the staff you will find they are alot more understanding and easy to work with. I was probably at the same orientation as you (Dec 16, 2008?) and I think they try to weed out the people who are not serious at that first appointment. I have not followed everything strictly I have had to modify the Protein part a bit as I don't eat meat. I have probably had more carbs than they would like but I am losing. They didn't get picky about the details with me. They just wanted me to be losing and doing my best to try and follow the program. For me caffiene is an issue and I let them know I have cut way back but not totally. They just give me some ideas and tips to slowly taper it all off. But it was very understanding and not condescending. For me I am 38 years old and am willing to change whatever within reason. I know that my ideas and ways have gotten me where I am. And even with my messing up and not following all the rules I have still lost 15 pounds so they do have a good solid program. But I hear you about debating a major lifestyle and surgery. I am debating everyday but I am about 80% ready to move forward as I am 38 and tried everything.........I am embracing the changes especially since they are working for me. I think there is no shame if your really not ready in deciding not to do it. Better that than to be sorry afterwards and feel to restricted.
  23. my question is for the best way to go about working/building my arm muscles. i like the size of my arms for the most part, but i NEED more tone. i have some saggy skin and am wondering, if i build muscle (heavier weight, low rep, right?) will it help fill that sag? but i also want it to be nice and toned, so low weight, high rep right? any hints/suggestions would be great.

Can get a flat belly but not as expected

You should definitely be trying to build or maintain your muscle during "losing" -- you'll have lots of extra skin if you don't -- more than likely there'd be loose skin with such a big weight loss anyway - but w/out weight training it will be even more -- it helps your body work for itself and burn calories even when you're not exercising. If the stomach is still fat & not loose skin - have patience - it will eventually fall off. Good Luck!
