    February Exercise Challege

Okay, went to the fill forum for research. Based on the owners manual for the lapband, I am way overdue for a fill based on my progress and eating. So it is decided! I am going to make an appointment on Monday to get a fill as soon as possible. It has been over four months since my last one, so I don't think it will be an issue on getting one. Maybe even an aggressive one. I keep telling myself that they only do them under flouro, so I am not too concerned with an unfill any longer. I'm going to run with this logic and see how it pans out. Also, a couple of NSV's to share. 1) I was at Walmart grocery shopping when I asked a gentleman where I could find yogurt covered raisins. He looked and looked and looked, but they just don't carry them. He finally said, "Well, as healthy as you look, I know you want exactly what you are asking for. I'd try Tom Thumb." I told him that saying I look healthy was the best compliment I'd ever received! And it's TRUE! It feels good to know that it meant so much to me. It's confirmation that I am not just doing this for asthetics. The asthetics are the gravy! 2) I took my measurements today and I lost half an inch off my bust (which I really think came from further fat loss in my back), half an inch off my hips, an inch off my abdomen...and I GAINED a half an inch in each bicep! (All other measurements were identical to January 15th.) So while I didn't lose as much as I like, I'm happy that I gained in my biceps, lost where I did, and happy that I didn't gain where I shouldn't.

    Frustrated!

honey, ill be 54 this summer and while i didnt have any weight probs until i turned 30, l know that being overweight and frustrated is difficult at ANY age ! Instead of venting about what you HAVE"NT done, how about venting on what you HAVE done ?? do you feel better, look better, less meds , etc ? Got any good nsv's to tell, or a nice compliment or two that came your way ?? Any advice for the newbies that might be reading this ? You've made alot of progress so far , just think where you'll be 3 months from today !! Keep up the hard work and you'll get there ! Good luck !
  3. @15k, my pulmonologist sent in an order to adjust my range. Currently 14-8. And have it switched to an auto adjust so that as my weight drops and with physiological changes the pressure will adjust accordingly. The bi-pap is amazing. I had a cpap yrs ago and had a lot of trouble. Went to a new pulmonologist and she told me about the bi-pap. How the pressure is greater when you breathe in and less when you breathe out. Making it feel more like normal breathing on the exhale. I found it to be much more comfortable. And this self adjust mode is amazing too. Very handy for dramatic weight loss situations. Though I miss the quality of sleep, I may have to play it safe and wait a little bit, days, and let my healing progress. I think this all may have set me back a bit. This, too, is near the top of my list of goals. 1st NSV, lower my weight to decrease the chances of my cancer returning and 2nd NSV, get off this machine, for good!!!

    3 pound weight loss

One of the meds is an inhaled steroid, but I believe that it is not prednisone. I've been on prednisone so much that I have a standing prescription for it. I cannot even begin to express how much I hate it. That's one of the reasons I gained weight before my surgery.. I had to do a couple of different courses of it between the consult and the surgery. It's beyond frustrating when they tell you that you must loose weight, but then put you on drugs that are garenteed to cause you to gain weight. Oh, and 60mg is notthing compaired to what I would need to take. I suppose to chose weight gain over death. Funny how it got to the point where my weight was killing me. Maybe I don't own a metabolism any more. Thank-you Becky for your kind words. I hope you are tracking all your NVS, along with their date. My list of NSVs is often the only thing that keeps me going, the only think that keeps me from giving in and giving up.

    Complications and NSV's

There are SO many answers to both of those questions. May I suggest you visit the complications subforum and/or do a search for "leaks" "infection" "complications" "stricture" "GERD" "ER", etc. As for the second question, do a search for "NSV" and you will find several long threads with dozens of examples. As for me, 1) no complications 2) starting a couple weeks out to the present, here are a few of my NSV's....My rings fit (then got too big). Had to buy a new saddle to fit my tiny butt. My horse is happy. Can wear tall boots. Went from size 22 relaxed fit stretch jeans to 5/6 skinny jeans and I can shop in regular stores for clothes. I feel GREAT and haven't taken any pain Meds or NSAIDS since surgery. My BP is normal. I have no nutritional deficiencies. My feet don't hurt, my knees don't hurt, I can can wear skinny leggings (and they look good). First normal PAP in 7 years (healthy diet boosted immune system and cleared my HPV infection), Everything I do is so easy now.....climbing stairs, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, riding bike. I can fit in an airplane seat with room to spare. I can cross my legs and sit Indian style. My true weight is 50 pounds less than what my drivers license says. Shaving my legs (and other parts) takes a lot less time. My grocery bill and restaurant tabs are a fraction of what they used to be.

    Nsv How I Love Thee!!

Awesome! Congratulations. Hope more NSV's in your future!!!
  8. At 6 weeks post op I noticed that my contacts weren't fitting right anymore, and my glasses seemed blurry. Went in for an exam, indeed my eyes had changed and i bought two new pair of glasses, and new contacts. Now at 4 months post op, my eyes have changed again! I am a type 2 diabetic, and my blood sugar was really bad before my surgery (A1C was 10.7). My blood sugar is now under control and A1C is in the 6's. The optometrist says that affects the eye shape and I have become less nearsighted. Now I need all new lenses! That's for two pairs of glasses and contacts! Fortunately, it's not going to cost me that much, as the optical store is going to cover the new lenses for me. I will pay again for the anti-glare coating. So not really an NSV, as it is costing me another $200. But I wish I'd known my eyes were going to change that quickly!
  9. The last month has been a pretty long plateau and I've been getting down on myself about the scale not moving. Today I reminded myself that it isn't always the scale that tells the picture. I did a little shopping and not only was I able to shop in the Misses department, but I bought a dress I would never have touched before. Completely out of my comfort zone, or so I thought. Couldn't wait to get home to try it on for the boyfriend. Big success. Can't wait to wear it. I feel a nice evening out in my future. I find that I enjoy shopping now, trying on clothes and pushing my own boundaries. I have painted toes, that I can see, and feel more feminine than ever before. I don't know if it makes sense, but instead of trying to 'blend in' and not be noticed, I want to say "look at me here I am". Looking forward to the next stage in my journey. I will reach goal that is a promise I've made to myself that I don't plan to break.

    Sleep Apnea Anyone?!

I had it, about 170 pounds ago. I did NOT bring it to the surgery although by rights I SHOULD have. I was traveling alone and the thoughts of lugging that thing around AND my luggage all by myself on the return trip just made me worry. I have issues with getting to sleep anyway and true to form I hardly slept at all the few days I was there. Post-op the headgear started to get really loose and my hard to fit face (I have to use a full face mask) got even harder to fit as my cheeks went away and the fat melted off. The mask would leak awfully and keep me awake. I should of gone back for a sleep test but decided to just wing it and am seemingly fine now. My wife used to hear me stop breathing pre-op and that's what really got me on the sleep apnea / CPAP trail to begin with. She now claims that I breath easy and don't stop and snort, so I guess I'm OK. I also don't snore like I used to either, which is a big NSV too.

    ABC September Chat

Oh Libra...be careful. You don't want that brand new band to slip. I'm so glad you feel fine now. You'll probably be able to have pizza a little later. I am so jealous of those of you with less conservative doctors than mine. He's such a stickler...two weeks of liquids b4 surgery, 4 weeks of liquids after surgery and 2 weeks of mushies. Ugh. I feel absolutely no restriction right now, either....so I'm going through the Soup pretty fast. I try so hard to eat slowly but it's not a natural thing for me (understatement of the century). I've been trying to keep my cals at about 1,000. Anyone else keeping track of their cals on Fitday or some other way? What do you guys think you're consuming cal-wise? BTW, I read some of those hateful posts on the other threads & I kept thinking to myself - "where's a thread killer when you need one?". So glad it's over and done with and really glad we have a haven of sanity right here with the ABC Club. :clap2: I had a NSV last night. I went to a fancy sit down dinner at a country club down the hill. When everyone sat down to dinner, I got in my car, came up the hill to my house, heated up soup, ate it, got back into my car and drove back to the club in time for their dessert. No one was the wiser. Pretty good, huh? I was really sweating that, and it turned out to be nothing. On top of that, I went to a huge bar b que today and stuck with my soup. Carried it around in a mug and other than drooling on a few people's hamburgers, I was fine. I can't say I didn't lust for their food, 'cause I did. I just lived through it and came out unscathed. Pretty nice feeling. Later!

    May Bandsters~March Chat!

Hello Everyone! Hey, Kim, I live in NE Wyoming. March and April have always been the worst times for blizzards. But when the snow melts, it is so GREEN! I had a NSV on Sunday. We went up to Billings, MT (about 3 hours away) and since we were up there and they actually have a mall and clothing stores, unlike here where all we have is Walmart, I decided to look for a dress for my son's wedding. I found a beautiful skirt that was a large that actually fit without being tight or anything. Then I found a shirt that looked good with it. The sales lady brought me the shirt and another one with a bit different style. I tried on the one shirt and it was too tight across the chest and they brought me back an XL in both. I tried on the one and told the sales lady, "hmmm, no, I don't like it...." and she said, "well, no wonder, it's too big!" Too big??? AN XL too big???? It made my day. Needless to say, I found a nice white shirt to go with my pretty sage green skirt and I'm set for the wedding. The wedding theme is "a casual summer picnic" so the skirt and shirt are perfect. Now I just need shoes. We have to go back to Billings at the end of April and I will find my shoes then. I didn't do my walk/run yesterday because I was building a chicken cage for my 6 chickens I bought last week. My DH isn't very happy with my chickens and they are getting too big to keep in a large tub in my laundry room much longer. They'll go into the storage shed in thier new enclosure until all the snow melts, then I will build them a chicken house. I wonder how long that will take since just building a 3x3x7 cage took me all afternoon and into the evening and I'm STILL not finished. I have to make a door for it still so I can get in and clean it out. I just read back a few pages (I missed some with my internet down) and saw that we have a new challenge! I'll join in. May 1st is my bandiversery. That's about 6 weeks. So a pound a week will be 6 lbs. Sounds doable! That would get me under 190. Have a great day!

  21. Can you believe we all have tini-tiny stomachs now? What a week its been. Some have had remarkable painfree success and some have been downright miserable. At this stage everyone is in totally different places as far as food/liquid/nutrition. For those on Clear liquids for awhile longer, if you didn't know, Isopure makes a clear drink thats 40g Protein. Its sold at some GNC stores. Might help get some protein in while being kind to your new stomach. I hope by the end of this week everyone is feeling fantastic! Here is the run down! I have an idea, let me know what you guys think... What I can start doing next week after we all lose the excess surgery Fluid... so everyone can see easily how much everyone has lost, is each week we can weigh in Mondays and I can put it after your name on the new Tuesday thread. It would be great to be able to see how everyone is doing at a glance - ie (lylabelle -6). It will be fun the first few weeks when we will probably all be dropping really well (except week 3 is typically a stall). You guys can message your number to me if you want so we keep our thread clean and filled with tips, tricks, recipes, annoyances and NSVs! Let me know what you think. Love this group! April Exercise Challenge

So, as I've noted the past couple of weeks, I've been in a low point on my band journey. I plateau'ed for about 2 weeks now and can't get off about 271-272. Just haven't been feeling "right". Last night, I think I came up with the reason, finally, for both. Friends I've talked to have been asking if I am doing everything the same as before. Answer: YES! Therein lies the problem. My cardio has been the same for about 6-7 wks now. Nothing different. I hop on the elliptical, set the resistance @ 8 and go for at least 60 minutes. No interval training, very little running, just elliptical at the same resistance/pace. I honestly think my body got too used to the routine and I've been stuck in a rut. This morning, I meant to do interval, but started hitting buttons and didn't want to do it all over, so I set it at resistance level 9 and picked up the pace. My HR still was in weight loss range for 53 of the 65 minutes I did this morning and I feel BETTER! I can't believe it took me this long to see the problem. Oh well, hopefully, I am back at it again with renewed vigor. Now, for a nsv. Last year I umped for the first time in my cities adult softball leagues. Wasn't very good at moving from behind the plate. Last night I got a call to sub for the co rec league. Went out and was running down the first base line every time there was a close play at 1B. Moved around the field the whole 2 hrs I was umping. Both teams were surprised to see an ump doing that much, especially at 1B and mentioned it numerous times.:coolgleamA: Now, I'm set up to ump every Monday night out there. Also, I have played against and umped for most of these players before and I don't think hardly a one recognized me. At least, they didn't mention it to me that they did.:cool2:

    Disappointed with weight loss progress

I just had my six month check up. My surgeon is pleased with my weight loss. I'm finally in the gym and taking Zumba classes. My weight loss has been really slow the last three months, only eight pounds. It's frustrating to see the scale moving so slowly. Meanwhile, shopping for size 12 is fabulous. The NSV are so many, I'm trying to keep them in the forefront, like jogging up the 4 flights of stairs to the Zumba class, when a few months ago I was stopping each floor and panting when I finally did reach the class.
  25. Pamela...lol NSV stands for Non Scale Victory. And hell yes you want some!
