Not sure if I should go through with it

It is a very big decision emotionally, physically and financially. You should not take this lightly. It is something that you will not be able to undo once it has been done. I found it helpful to write down a list of pros and cons. What do you have to lose and what do you have to gain? Are you happy with where you are at now? For me I know that I was literally killing myself with food. I couldnt walk far at all. Even two and half weeks later I can walk further and am in less pain. For me it is all about health. What will be the reason that is most important for you? 😊

    Pain after surgery

I had the sleeve and the pain on the left where they removed my stomach HUUUURT. Had pain for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm exactly 3 weeks post op today and I finally don't have pain anymore. It definitely takes time to feel better.

    May 2022 surgery?

Protein Pudding. Sugar free jello pudding mix with isopure zero carb protein unflavored and 1% milk. I’m in love 🥰 It will perhaps be a short romance when phase 2 or 3 rolls around My doctor said keep monitoring blood sugar and pressure but I can stop the meds. What?! Hooray!

I love the no rush vibes though isn’t phase 3 the regular food phase?

    Blurry vision after surgery?

I was under a major anesthesia cloud for a little over a week postop, including the blurry vision. It was difficult to keep my eyes open, even when I was not sleepy. After eight or nine days, the fog lifted, and my vision returned to baseline.

    Blurry vision after surgery?

Yes, was told it's due to the anesthesia, lack of vitamins. I'm 3 weeks post op and I still see blurry, hopefully after I start my pureed diet and start vitamins, etc later this week, things will change. If you're way out of surgery I would contact doctor. Not sure if I should go through with it

To be honest with you having the sleeve was the best and worst thing I have ever done. I am about 7 weeks post op. Let me explain. I have lost about 60lbs and been able to get off some meds. I really needed the surgery in fear I was headed for a heart attack, diabetes or name any other bad condition. The surgery it's self was not painfull at all. The hard part begins after surgery with the stages of liquid diets, then soft foods, then more regular type food. Some foods are 6 months out advised. It's not easy inconjuction with the vitamin supplements needed throughout the day. I can probably eat about 4 ozs of food right now and it is difficult to get in all your fluids for the day. You have to be vigilant and dedicated. Would I do it again? Yes because it's for my health and I don't need to eat the amount of foods and choice of foods I was eating. Ultimately it's up to you and how much you need it from a health standpoint. It is great to get on ghe scale and see hard work pay off. Hope this helps you in some way making your choice. Dr Sanborn - Chattanooga TN

Hey! Yes, finally got a call back. I have a new coordinator which is super nice. My last weigh in is in a few weeks then will be scheduled!!! So happy you’re on your way as well. Thanks.
  11. So i had my surgery last month. I am self pay as insurance will not cover. I paid around $18-19K. I had to pay before i could have the surgery. A couple weeks after surgery i notice there was a claim from the hospital on my insurance for that same surgery for around $40K. Which they denied since its not covered. I called the hospital to find out what the heck is going on. So i gave them my receipts showing i paid the Surgeons fee, Surgeon assistant fee, Anesthesiologist fee, Hospital facility fee, complication coverage fee, Pathology, psychological exam, and nutritional evaluation. all coming out to about $19K. So they told me they would figure out what happened and why my they did my insurance instead of self pay. Today i get a email from the hospital that they switched me to self pay and that i am owed a refund of over $3,000 which was odd because i am not owed anything. So i called and they checked and checked and said they gave me a discount since I paid cash lol. So i was like... ARE YOU SURE... Because once i get this money i am paying off my credit cards and you wont be getting that money back... and they checked and said i am good. So i should be getting some moolah back here in the next couple days lol. So thanks for that mistake haha.

    Dreaded hair loss - question

Hi!! Yes, I spray apple cider vinegar (3 parts cider : 1 part water) on my scalp right before washing - each time. It has made a world of difference. Please try it and let me know if it worked. I think it is the answer for all my scalp issues - hope it is for you, as well!

    Pain after surgery

Week 3.5 from sleeve to bypass and still having pain. The internal stitch can be painful up to week 6 is what I hear.
  14. I had sleeve converted to bypass due to severe GERDS and H/h on 5.20. I spent weekend in hospital and wondering if anyone has struggled with a lot of pain on the right side. Weird I had pain in my back as well but the tenderness to stand up and sit down is hard. I can't lay in my bed yet, have to sleep elevated on my back due to the extreme tenderness on my side. Did anyone else struggle. I have 1 week follow up appt with doc Friday, but this pain is pretty rough. I am walking and have finally started passing gas but no BM yet. If you had pain, how long did it last? Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app

    6/6 Pre Op Liquid Diet

The two week pre-op diet SUCKS but once you make it through that you're golden. Also it's much easier to follow the plan once you've gone two weeks eating nothing, just having half a scrambled egg feels like you're indulging yourself. I also use Myfitnesspal, just make sure to keep up with it every day post-op.

    May 2022 surgery?

Post op may 18th, I feel like I’m right there with everyone! Pain on left side feels like my stomach is hanging down and pulling. Last couple of days have been more intense pain but not horrible. Tomorrow makes officially one week since surgery. Clear liq diet sucks but I can see a difference already so it’s keeping me motivated. First pre op poop is heaven! Lol good luck everyone!

    ONEderland!

I hit Onederland without realising it a couple of weeks ago. 196 pounds and counting. Being metric, I had my own metric milestone a while back getting under 100kg for the first time in a good 20 years - now I'm well below and into the 80s, with 14kg to go until goal. Which sounds crazy to my ears, yet here I am. Super happy to reach this point in the journey. One more BMI number down and I'll finally be out of the obese category and into just "overweight".

    Puréed meats

I am week 2 of phase 3, I have had a turkey sausage patty, I didn’t purée it but rather chewed it into nothingness….I have only eaten 2 in the past 2 days but now I am worried….also had imitation crab meat and chewed and chewed it as well…I have felt fine after eating both but now I am thinking maybe I am rushing too much, read something about blockages….thoughts?? I’m going to go back to tuna and canned chicken instead, i can blend those easily and tolerate the taste.
  19. Coming out of surgery i was in a lot of pain. Most of my pain was gas and it mainly hurt in my chest/right side/shoulders. I still got up and walked laps and over the next few days i was feeling lots better. When I got home the heating pad helped sooooo much. Any time i spent in bed i alternated the heating pad from my back to my belly. Again, my pain was pretty severe, but just think… you’re having not 1 but 3 major surgeries! take your pain meds and walk as much as tolerated. I kept gas-x on hand for the first week. Some of the gas wasn’t gas that comes out through “passing” it. And my stomach was bloated for the first week/week and a half. after the first week, you will be so relieved to feel “normal-ish”. Prayers and good thoughts coming to you!!!

    May Surgery Buddies

I sip water with protein powder or liquid IV all day to get my 64 oz in. At meals I was told not to drink any 30 mins before during and 30 after to get your meal in. I mainly just sip all the time to get my protein and fluids in. During my clear liquid week I did not really have meals. I had broth I would sip on. I am on full liquids now. I make a smoothie for breakfast. I had some oatmeal that was mainly water but creamy. I bought it from Proti Diet on Amazon. A packet is 7 carbs and 15 protein. I put a tablespoon of unsweetened apple sauce in it. I did that for late lunch. I am just sipping.

    May Surgery Buddies

Hello Everyone, I’m 5 days post op and I’m doing 4 oz of full liquids plus meals. At my doctors appointment today my doctor asked me if I met my protein and liquid goals. Which confuses me because in Class 3 they were saying to make sure for the first week that you make sure to get the liquids in so you don’t get dehydrated. So in my mind for the first week decided to play it safe and follow the page they gave me at the hospital for meals and liquids. I would rather be safe then sorry I guess.
  22. I had the loop DS / SADI-S in November 2021 (~6 months ago). I have a 300cm common channel (the part of my intestine that can still digest food and absorb nutrients). Since my surgery date I have lost 82 lbs and am still losing about 6lbs a month. I had some complications post surgery that I've had to deal with. Turns out my gallbladder was bad going into the surgery but no one realized it (since I had sludge and not stones). So they didn't take my gallblader out during the surgery and had to go back in to remove it 3 months later. I really wish they had proactively removed it because I was sick for months waiting for the gallbladder surgery and recovering from a second surgery so soon sucked. I still have a hiatal hernia because for reasons, it didn't get repaired. Again, I'd totally recommend making sure that they fix EVERYTHING while they have you open... I also have bad liver function test results that I'm waiting to hear back on, so I can't really comment much on why it's off. I feel fine though. I take vitamins 6 times a day for the rest of my life: 3 calciums and 2 multi vitamins. So far my vitamin levels look good. I eat about 500 calories a day still at 6 months out because I'm not hungry still. I realize some programs want more calories, but my surgeon has stressed that I shouldn't eat unless actually hungry. I don't have problems with any foods really, and my digestion is just fine (though I guess more gassy than before). I had a lot of health problems before surgery, none of which were resolved by the weight loss (total: 133 lbs). My a1c is better, though I still spike super high (200-300) if I have carbs (or surgery!) and even a small amount elevates my blood sugar all day. In my opinion, my a1c looks good because I'm eating so few calories, and zero carbs. In reality I will have diabetes for life and will need to watch that. I am still on blood pressure medication, still have migraines, still have intercranial hypertension, still take statins for my cholesterol, still take heartburn medication, etc. I am off of my diabetes medication for the time being. I did the weight loss surgery to resolve my health problems. So far I am very happy with the results, mostly because it's nice to be able to move around without getting hot and tired, and have people see me as a person and not immediately judge me for my weight. But it hasn't really made me healthier yet. Maybe it will eventually but either way it feels worth it.
  23. Good job! I see a big difference. Mine is tomorrow. Sleeve, hernia and gallbladder too. What were your issues the first week coming out of that? Major pain? Walking? Gas?

    6/6 Pre Op Liquid Diet

I have surgery tomorrow. Two week liquid was rough at first, but got easier as I went along. I did track mine with Baritastic, but I didn't really need to. My diet was 20oz skim milk, 3x day. Same each day, didn't really need to track. Just did it to keep in the habit. Keep strong. You can do it.
