Psychiatric Evaluation done... Finally.
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to liveaboard15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
650 & 200 questions??? Jeez... I had my psych appointment last week and it was nothing like that. I filled out a couple of papers and talked to the psychologist for about 20 minutes, that was it. She said I'm good to go and she doesn't need to see me again. -

I am 3 months out and have 3 small meals and 2 snacks. Breakfast - 75 gms low fat Greek yogurt and some berries or passion fruit Lunch - 1/2 cup soup or meat stew Snack - 25 gms ham or some deli meat rolled with cheese or cream cheese Dinner - 50 gms fish or seafood in a homemade sauce Snack - melba toast or thin cracker with pate or blue cheese or 20 gms cashew nuts I drink milky coffees and am mostly getting up to 60 gms of protein. It took me about 10 weeks to get to this goal. { I also detest protein drinks. } I am overestimating my calories because I don't usually manage to eat all my food. I estimate it to be 600 - 800 a day. Hope this helps -
After surgery am I doomed to a life of throwing up???
phoenixillume replied to Jersey Girl in Tampa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My love I am about 4 weeks post op and as of yet I haven’t thrown up. Only time I felt nauseous was eating my multivitamin chewable. I eat small bites and take my time. -

Why round three? Did your surgery get cancelled? That’s worse then doing it once. I know we will be on liquids after so I have to keep drinking. I just made some broth because I think it’s the sweetness that’s getting to me from the protein shakes. -

I have to do 5 shakes a day with nothing else. 800 calories, 75 g of protein is what the shakes equal. Round three of doing this liquid diet. Day three of this round. -

I’m supposed to have four protein shakes per day. I can have up to two sugar free popsicles and low sodium broth. I just have to tough it out for three more days. -

I am 7-8 weeks post-op. I never get enough protein! The shakes were no problem before surgery--but I cannot find one now that I don't take one swallow and not turn green! Personally- I figure a routine is further down my life's road. I'm trying to figure out what hurts when I eat, what makes me nauseated, etc. Time for a regimen later. I think if you are losing, you are ok (for now.) Do you want to set a goal? Wait until fall. Your tummy will be healed by then, your doc will tell you how your labs look, and you can set a goal/regimen for getting through the holidays... Just my 2 cents worth. (one more thing-be kind to your tummy.) -

Okay--here I am, the "fly in the ointment." I am 7 weeks post-op. I get nauseated quite a bit, really every day. My doctor says it isn't unusual, some people do. My advice? There are a TON of different meds for that. Had me on a patch when I woke up, then gave me pills. which didn't help a lot, so then he changed it, and I'm all good! He said it would eventually go away. But as long as I have meds to counteract it, I'm fine! -
^^^ I can't believe I didn't catch that! I just re-read the OP's message and ...yep!...right on time for the infamous three-week stall!
-
I too had the same issue. About 3 weeks after my surgery I stopped losing for almost 2 weeks. I googled and found out that it is common to have a stall 3 weeks post op. After the stall I have continued to lose weight at about 1lb. every other day. Hang in there!

I am 4 weeks PO now, but feeling very worried, since last week I started taking vitamins, it may be a coincidence or not but the scale is broken, it was very nice to see one pound or half of one gone every day but for the last 8 -10 days the scale does not want to move, I even gain one or 2 pounds, it is driving me nuts!. I finally can take the 64 oz of water, I am eating 2 ounces of food 3 times a day and my snacks are liquids or 2 oz of yogurt. I am walking 60 minutes in the treadmill every other day. I am making the 60gr protein per day even taking those horrible tasting protein drinks. What does the scale want from me?! -

Hi. I'm not in your target demographic, but I dislike seeing posts asking for help that don't get a response. At 3 months my program was 3 meals a day, no snacks. Meals consisted of 3oz protein, 1oz veggies, sometimes with a smidgen of a starch. The protein was usually chicken, pork, beef, often with a touch of flavorful sauce, but in a pinch things like cheese, beans. While I didn't do snacks, if I got hungry I would do SF popsicles, this way I had flavor and 5 calories to give my stomach something to do. SF popsicles were a life savor for me early on, so I tended to lean on them a bit later too. Gosh, I think I'll by a box next grocery trip. There was a time at about 2 years post-op that I was binge running (about 90 miles a week) where my plan was increased to 6 meals per day plus a protein shake. I hated it, I felt like you that I was constantly eating, about the only time I wasn't was when I was running. Oh, I'm not saying you should do my plan. Many people I knew back in the day did 3 meals and 3 snacks. Many did protein drinks for a meal or even two. I think the primary thing is they ate to plan to be successful, just as you're trying to do. You have a good goal working to conform your eating to plan. keep at it. Good luck, Tek -
Revision... distillization of rny
Nifer72 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So, I am scheduled for my rny revision on March 21st. Had my pre-op today. It's going to be out patient, a simpler procedure than my original bypass. Still have to do the modified liquid diet pre-op for 14 days: 2 meals protein drinks, 1 light meal (3 oz lean meat, 1 cup veggies) or another protein drink. Have to get pre-op testing... bloodwork and an ekg. I'm excited and ready for the 21st to be here! I quit smoking two weeks ago as part of my surgeons requirements. I am making the changes needed to make the most of this. I know weight loss will be slower, but I'm also in a better place to stick to the plan. My revision is not due to regain, just a boost to get to goal and to help with digestive and slow motility issues. Original surgery was over 21 years ago,I starting weight was 475. I lost 100lbs down to 275 gained some weight when I got pregnant but then lost that regain, and kept it off. Last 17 years I've bounced between 245 and 275. Due to medical/digestive issues, I go through periods where I can barely eat and then go back to maintenance diet. This surgery is not only to help me get to a goal of 175ish but also to help settle the digestive issues. Any other revisions going on this month? -

Pre-op appointment today. 2 week pre-op diet starts Monday. I've got to get some blood work and an ekg. My surgery is a revision. Distillation of my gastric bypass. It is out patient, I'll be home same day. They aren't doing anything with my pouch which is why it's out patient. I'm excited for the 21st to get here. -
My Upper GI, Chest XRay, and clearance with Primary Doctor on Tuesday went well. The Upper GI wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. The Pre-op coordinator called today and said she was passing me now to the schedulers and warned that they were slammed and scheduling now for April and May. I told her I was being a patient patient and going with the flow. She emailed some lab work that I will have done at the end of next week. It’s good to have this over and done and now waiting for the ducks to get into a row. Now I’m focusing on the daily goals of watching my blood glucose numbers, closing my Apple Watch activity rings, and getting good sleep.

I also am six months (almost) out and have some of the same feelings. Slider foods—ones that you can eat a lot of without feeling the restriction—are real. So what I do is I tell myself if I still want it in two hours, I can have a little bit. Then I put a portion in a bowl or on a plate and only eat that. No taking the entire container or package out of the kitchen! Carbs are NOT the enemy. Your body needs carbs for energy, and the more active you are, the more carbs you need. Fat is NOT the enemy. Your body needs fats for hormone balance, especially for people who are AFAB. I finally went to a nutrition program where I have a coach who helps me once a week. I plan my meals and sometimes things happen and I go off the rails—but just for a meal or maybe a day. Then it's right back on the horse. I am still losing about 1 pound a week, and I'm around 15-25 pounds from my ultimate goal (how much exactly will depend on the results of next Wednesday's DEXA scan, since my goal is sub-20 body fat percentage, not a scale number). It might take me six months or more to lose it, and that's okay. The longer it takes, the more eating the 'right' way feels normal. For reference, I'm only a little taller than you but significantly heavier. I am extremely active (workouts, running, coaching, working outdoors) and I am losing a pound a week on about 1700-1800 cals a day, split pretty evenly among protein, fat, and carbs—about 140P, 160C, and 60F. Every body is different. Just rein in those habits now.

Still pain at incision site
SummerTimeGirl replied to Ccosta0425's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup. I had that stupid pain at that location until about week 3 or 4! Up until that time I had to sleep semi sitting up in bed because I dare not lay down flat or on my side cause if I did, YIKES, that pain! LOL Anyway, it was a pain in the you-know-what but it should be giving you some relief soon, I'd say. -
A shameless plea for support
SummerTimeGirl replied to NolaJay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Interestingly enough, I had an appointment with my dietician today and we spoke about portion sizes. Oh, I also had my surgery last May (19th). Part of the reason for the appt. was due to a VERY long stall I've been in. Anyway, one of my concerns was whether or not I was eating too much at each meal and she assured me I was not. And I'm typically eating around 3-4 oz of meat and 2-4 oz of veggies. She said at this far out we should be eating around a cup's worth of food. Of course this may change due to the type of foods you are eating. She said you may be able to tolerate a little more or less than that depending on the type of food. Of course her answer was to STOP eating when you start to feel full regardless of the amount you started with. So, if you measure out 4 oz of chicken and 1/2 cup of veggies but get full after the chicken or after the chicken and SOME of the veggies (but not all), then just stop, of course. Anyway, I was worried about the stretching out of the stomach too since I can eat more now and told her as much and she said no, based on my food logs I was NOT eating too much for where I am right now post surgery and that a cup was a normal amount. So, I doubt you are either. -

Hi Everyone. I am suppose to advance to solid food on Monday and for some reason it scares me, doesn't feel like my stomach could handle even soft foods, is that normal? I have been only doing mushy this week and I did eat some yummy refried beans yesterday about 1/2 cup or less and believe I ate them too fast because they kind of sat in my upper belly and when it finally hit my belly it felt bloated. Maybe it is just getting use to it. I do have a tendency to eat too fast especially if I am hungry. I was at the time, at least I think I was or maybe it was just something that was good. Thanks for the tape measure advise, I am gonna do that. -

Hi everyone. Had my surgery June 5 2021. I’ve lost around 93lb and feeling great. Physically had no problems with the surgery which I’m very very grateful for. Over the last maybe 6 weeks, though, I’ve lost nothing. I can feel myself getting back into bad habits. I go to the supermarket and, instead of picking up chicken, I pick up chocolate or crisps. I also have found that my portion sizes are slightly larger now over the last couple months, even with protein foods like plain chicken with vegetables. A few times last year, maybe 3-4 times, I ate too much and was sick. Often I would feel that really full feeling like something is stuck in my throat. But this year, I haven’t had that. I don’t seem to get it anymore. All this to say I’m really bloody worried. I’m so worried about slipping back into my old ways. I’m worried about my portion sizes going back to normal and gaining all the weight back. I would appreciate any support or advice you can give. Did any of you feel like this and get yourself back on track? How did you do it? Can any of you confirm that eating more at this stage is normal healing and that my stomach hasn’t stretched back to normal?!? Thanks in advance NJ x
