  1. Keep calm and carry on. Make a deal with yourself - no scale for 4 days. Stalls are nothing.... just dust in the wind Chell it is the long haul that matters. Just remember poo weight is huge in this stage. It will be a while before you can count on your digestive system again. I remember having stalls that resolved themselves with stool softener.

    Waiting

Have you called them? I would follow up. I finished all my stuff and was waiting on insurance and when I talked to them they were like oh yeah we'll get that today or next week. Sometimes they just need a gental nudge and reminder you're a person and not just a bunch of words and numbers on paper. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Im doing better now that I'm in week two. I get a few gas bubbles because I forget I can't gulp water or whatever I'm drinking at the time. I haven't had nausea at all during this whole new life change which is surprising. Hopefully yours will stop soon it gets easier, I think when day 7 came everything seemed to be a lot better! I figured I needed more protein because my body was so week, my friend and I both got some protein shakes so we did that one day and felt soooo much better. And getting to have a few bites of yogurt was a nice change! Things are finally starting to get better!

The harder the cheese... the more protein. An easy way to get protein in with lots of flavor. I have it about once a week it is high in fat.

    Scared to death!

Week 1 Clear Liquids, weeks 2 and 3 full liquids(milk skim 1%,Protein shakes, yogurt drink, juice low sugar, flavored Water etc) week 4 soft foods( cottage cheese, apple sauce, yogurt, boiled eggs ect) after that you can eat everything in 4 oz measurements. stop when you are full, eat slowly , chew like you have never chewed before LOL this is what my doc ordered. I do agree its too early to eat chicken and potatoes at 2 weeks. I followed this and lost 24 pounds the first month. Dont beat your self up about it start fresh tomorrow I can post the complete list for you if you like he gave me a book that he wrote about the sleeve

    Newbie

The first 3 weeks at home was hard for me. Extremely hard. Try to keep in mind what your surgeon said. It will get better in time for sure. It is tough in the beginning however the first thing you want to do is to keep yourself hydrated. Drinking your Protein and Water is more than enough for now. Trust me. If you can't get to your protein goal each day, be sure to hit your Fluid goals for sure. Oh I forgot to mention, I had the gastric sleeve done May 27th, 2016 I'm down 100lbs even at the moment. Hi, from Teresa!

supposed to be clear liquids x2 weeks, full liquids x2 weeks, then mushies/puree but I was doing so well he moved me up to mushies early. So far I am tolerating it but have to go really slow or I get so stuffed I'm really uncomfortable on just alittle tiny amt.

    4 months post op

My first stall hit at 2 weeks post op and lasted about a month. Stalls are a normal part of the process. If the scale is making you crazy, stay off of it. Follow the plan. Trust the process. You'll be fine. The pattern that my body seems to have settled into is, I lose about 3 pounds. Stall for a couple of weeks. Gain back 2 pounds. And then stall for a week. And then it starts all over again. I'm losing on average of about a pound a week. So the scale is going down, but not without going up first. Your body is going to do what your body is going to do. If you're eating in a calorie deficit, you're going to lose weight.
  10. I think I need to stop the once a week weigh in and go to once a month.

    3 days post op

Im 3 days out also. Gas x strips. I dont feel hungry. Hang in there. They say after one week we get significantly better. The hardest thing is trying to get liquids in. Im eating ice and trying to get down a protein shake that ive been working on since this morning. Hang in there hun. We got this.
  12. You know the answer: it's not possible for you to have gained 16 pounds like that. its just a differently calibrated scale, probably along with some travel and time related water weight. I saw my longest plateau around 7 weeks.
  13. My friend, it's a HUGE commitment and a major life change - if you didn't have moments of second thoughts, I'd worry about you! And everything seems so much more difficult when you're hungry. What I CAN tell you is that, statistically speaking, there's a REALLY good chance everything is going to be just fine. All those feelings you've got now are normal. Yesterday I read a story about an agoraphobic woman who left her house for the first time in 10 years and fell in a sinkhole - no joke! The truth is, I kind of went into surgery feeling like that would be me. I'd finally try something drastic to take control, and be the anomaly that ends up with complications or bigger than I started. Neither thing happened, and other than 3 weeks of a nagging pain in my right side and a monster case of what felt like morbid constipation, it all turned out alright. I have two regrets - getting myself in the position of NEEDING surgery, and waiting so damn long to do it. I wish you had someone to go with you. Heck, if I had two nickels to rub together right now and some time off work, I'D go, lol. But if you can get past the jitters and go for it anyway, I think you're going to be really happy that you did!
  14. Alright, I'm going crazy!!! I'm one week post-op and I need some food...mushies will do!! I can't take anymore soup, broth or jello!! Has anyone started a small amount of mushies such as mashed potato or squash the second week of post-op??
  15. I am getting very excited because I am getting closer to actually getting LAP-BAND®...a process in which I began March 18, 2009. I have my surgeons visit December 17, 2009 and then I was wondering what I should expect. I have humana insurance, how long does it generally take to get approval/denial notice. My doc said about 4-6 weeks but is there anyone in Kentucky with humana insurance that has a better estimate of the timeline? Thanks!

    My post-op dietary regulations

Congratulations on getting your band!! Yes, everyone is different and Drs require different things. The main thing is to stay hydrated. I was on the clear liquids also for a week after, my menu had a little more to it-sugar free popsicles, clear broth, and Isopure, clear fruit juice to name a few, and i was required to sip about 6 ounces every hour. I have been on the mushy/pureed for about 3 weeks, its getting old,lol.. Then I can transition to a soft solid diet. Some people are instructed to start a solid diet right after the liquid, it just depends. But stay hydrated, and good luck with your Journey!

    Three Weeks out

Wow, thanks for posting that! Congrats on your banding and your decision to do it and for losing 35 pounds - forever!!!!! My doctor not only requires the 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet (no sugar and lots of Protein drinks), 4 weeks pre-op he requires that you begin getting use to the liquid phase by having 2 Protein drinks a day and only one meal. I keep questioning if I can do this but after reading your post, I know I will, I know I must. My doctor has also subscribed a new med on the market to keep you from vomitting after surgery. He's also one of the few doctors who requires that you give yourself injections of a blood thinning med to keep the possiblities of blood clots down. congrats again!!! and happy banding~ you're doing great

    Need advise ...To be Sucessful

Hi, Are you tracking your calories? If you use a good tracker, perhaps it would give you an idea of whether you are lacking any nutrients and give you a good idea of how to increase your intake. I just started my mushy stage on Thursday. I eat 1/4 c of food three times a day - all low carb and no sugar - plus two protein shakes a day. In the next three weeks I am supposed to increase to 1/2 cup at each meal. Mashed potatoes are probably not a great choice but what if you baked a potato and used fat free sour cream? Dump the butter and milk/half and half. Why did your surgeon give you a fill if you were already unable to eat? Give yourself a week of calorie tracking and then review your log to see if you can make some changes. Best wishes!
  19. So, I'm 6 weeks post op and this weekend all of a sudden, I can't get anything down without being in the bathroom immediately. Been on typical soft food diet - Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, egg beaters, tuna. This weekend had a protein shake and immediately had chills, dizziness, sweating, cramps and straight to the bathroom. Decided to step back and just have unsweetened tea and water. Both give me the same thing. Odd that the water of all things give me severe cramping and immediate need to go to the bathroom. I was at the tail end of a 10 day stall, so not sure if this is all playing a role? Have lost 6 pounds since Friday. Any thoughts?

    Ugh! Where Is My Drive?!

Your in weight loss mode it will pass. There are other ways to keep him pleased and stay in your mode. Your body has gone through a lot in the past 6 weeks give your body time to heal and it maybe better than before. You may feel sexier than you ever have. But you just need more time.... I must admit I do feel a difference in my drive it is not what it was its better. I had to remind myself I just had surgery lol!!! Jenipher
  21. OK since surgery, a few complications and hospital stays after.... I'm 6 weeks out and starting to feel great! I'm down 30 lbs! My HOT husband, who I am very attracted to keeps wanting to get to gettin, bit I just have no frigging libido whatsoever! WTF????!!!! Anyone else go thru this? Is it a hormone issue? I'm 37, in my prime!!!! Grrrr! Please help!
  22. I'm three years post op, and I aim for about 80grams of protein a day. WLS patients need to prioritise protein, so it's just a way of life for me at this point. You just have to focus on each meal being very high in protein. I find it helpful to learn what foods are high in protein (e.g. lean chicken breast, eggs, almonds, beans, chick peas) and always have them available in your kitchen. Even now, I still supplement with protein powder/protein creamers. I will make a smoothie or stir it into my coffee. I do prioritise protein over anything else. I never, never eat a meal or snack with just empty carbs (other than some dark chocolate for a treat). There always has to be protein in each meal. It helps that I'm a bit of a carnivore though. I like the taste of carbs, but I'll have meat with only a spoon of gluten free pasta or rice. The priority is always protein. Sometimes I think of myself like a player in a video game where the objective is to score extra points by having as much protein as possible. I eat so much chicken, it's ridiculous. High protein milk is good too. You get used to reading the labels on everything to check macros and protein. My other tip would be track your food with MyFitnessPal. Even the free version will keep track of your protein. Right after my surgery, I also had a special bowl and plate which marked out the ratio of how much protein should be on the plate. If I'm low on protein, I'll usually make myself drink a smoothie, that's 20grams of protein right there. If you haven't had your surgery yet, it should be relatively easy to hit the protein goals because you're not dealing with restriction yet.

19 days later after surgery and this liquid diet sucks

Each surgeon/bariatric group has different guidelines really. Most have you move on to mushies after 3 weeks. Then solids after 5-6 weeks post op. They didn't limit me on my protein brands as far as protein shakes other than to watch the sugar content. Is that the food list they gave you?
  24. Few other things I'm going to add the list in the morning but Dr Sosa requires us to do liquid for a month or so then puree for another and then on 3 month we can have crackers but yeah every doctors diff about strict diet , I cant wait till I can chew ..... We can have 48 hours prior to surgery chicken, veg and beef broth , sugar free jello, g2. 80 g of proteinx, and specific multivitamin specifically made for gb patients,Water, diet cranberry ,diet cran grape ,white grape juice all must be all natural and nor from concentrate and fruit popsicles but AFTER SURGERY CONT ON THAT ^ UNTIL we see nutritionist a week after who says now we can have fat free pudding, plain low fat yogurt,Greek yogurt, sugar free fudge popsicles, baby food solid ,g2, diet cranberry juice, diet cran grape, white grape juice all Must be Not from concentrate, well strained cream of chicken, cream of broccoli and mushroom fat free from can Campbell's and protein must still be 80 g of proteinx yes proteinx is the name of the protein we must uSE FOR NOW well that's all I know of , of yeah apple juice same all natural not from concentrate and we must not have any chucks of fruit or meat in yogurt, food ,popsicles or cream soup

    Not losing weight

You were just like me! But keep reading, there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!! Im sorry to here your frustration. We all have had our ups and downs for sure. I think my situation was pretty similar to yours. It took me forever to finally feel restriction and by the time I did, I had lost all the good habits I had practiced right when I got my surgery. The day of my 7th fill when I finally felt it, it was like a truck hit me! I was like "wait a second i don't like this!" But then I reminded myself that this was what I had prepared for but unfortunately because it took so long I forgot. As far as being too tight. I think you sound ok. If you can get down solid Protein like fish then you should be fine, chicken can be iffy, most of the time if its tender it goes down but sometimes it doesn't. Now as far as your weight loss, I will tell you what worked for me... As far as food goes, you sound like your on par with that. I try to keep mine around 1000 calories a day, and even if your not quite full, stop after 20 or so minutes and let it catch up. So great job with that! But as CRAZY as this sounds, even with a 1000 calories a day, you won't lose weight unless you get in 30 mins of light cardio a day because of that stupid thing we call metabolism. I chewed my doctor out 30 days after I was in green zone bc i hadn't lost a pound. I told him I'm only consuming 1000 calories a day! I should be losing, what is 30 mins on the treadmill really gonna do! Well out of desperation, I finally pulled my old bike out and started doing what he said. EURIKA! It finally all came together! The weight started coming off, and all i did was walk every night for 30 minutes!. I can tell bc the weeks i do it 5 to 6 times, I lose 2 to 5 lbs, but the weeks i get "busy" and only do it 2 or 3 times, i don't lose any . You don't want to really "work out" for hours at the gym though bc you might get burned out and not want to exercise the next day. Keep it light and consistent. The nurse told me that under a "normal diet" 30 mins of walking or whatever might not make that much of a difference because it doesn't burn that much calories but we aren't really doing it to burn more calories ... all the 30 mins of movement is designed to do is to keep your metabolism from going into shock. You need to get your heart rate up for a good 30 mins and it works wonders! To this day, I have never stepped foot in the gym. I get on my bike and turn on food network "haha". Anyways I don't make up reasons for not doing it anymore... my husband and children know that every night at 8:30pm leave me alone for 30 minutes. Moral of the story... 30 mins light cardio, as many nights as you can! If you do it 5 to 6 times a week no more, no less, you will be down 100lbs before you no it! Good luck girl!
