What are your eating habits? honestly?

I'm also a band to sleeve revision (slipped band) and I'm 7 weeks out so eating regular foods now. I honestly eat about 7-8 times a day cuz after 4-6 bites, I can't eat anymore - but then I'm hungry 90 minutes later. My dr said I should be eating 3 meals by now but how can I live on less than 450 calories forever (and thats including my Protein shake)? I've added up my 4-6 bites x 3+ my Protein shake and it totally less than 450 calories. That can't be right that he wants me to eat so little. So I eat when I'm hungry, which is more often than with my band. I've been bouncing between the same 1 lb fr 2 weeks now. Maybe I'm eating too much? Plan on kicking my cardio up on Monday and hoping that helps cuz I can't eat much less. So I understand why 3 meals sounds so daunting. not sure someone can actually live by eating 5 bites 3x a day??? Good luck!
  2. I’m so sorry. I went through this too but I didn’t have the lap band. but your surgeon should have told you the sleeve only makes the reflux worse. My surgeon did and suggested a revision to bypass instead because of my severe GERD.
  3. I am revision from band to sleeve in Dallas next Tues, 12/15. Nervous but eager to get it done!
  4. Hi, I currently had the lap band and am getting a revision to the sleeve on October 2. I have had the lap band and if I had to do it all over again, I would not have it. It is very hard to comply with the rules of the band. You have to cut up your food in the smallest pieces you can imagine. I could not eat many foods. I could not eat dense foods like chicken. I could not eat one bite of chicken for lunch; yet I could eat a bunch of crackers. I had vomitting issues, pain like you would not believe. I never felt full, only stuck or unstuck. I would not recommend the band.

I am scared to get GERD, please give me advice

Prior to my VSG 2 years ago, my acid reflux was minimal, not everyday. I had experienced reflux when I gained weight. I was a yo-yo dieter for years getting low as 130lb to high of 310. At my pre op testing for surgery, my surgeon says I have mild gerd. He had recommended gastric bypass. I didn't want bypass and told him if I lose the weight the reflux should go away like it has done in previous years. I was reflux free for 1 1/2 years post VSG. By then, i was 100 pounds lighter. By Dec of last year, I started having reflux here and there but not everyday. The ppi medicine was working but fast forward to this year. I was still experiencing mild acid in my esophagus after eating even with taking a ppi using with nutrition dense foods. My surgeon again recommended gastric bypass to get rid of the acid reflux or stay on ppi forever. I was leaning towards staying on ppi medication and losing more weight. However, I am still reading those with gerd/VSG and have reached a healthy BMI under 25 still experienced gerd. I will be moving forward with revision surgery from VSG to Gastric Bypass on the 19th of Sept.

    Second surgery!?!?

ouch that really sucks! I am hoping and praying that things clear up for you before it becomes necessary to revise it so soon!
  7. I had a band and lost 40lbs but was always slimming and was disappointed with my weight loss. So, I had a revision to the sleeve. At first I lost 12 lbs, and then stopped dead. I followed the diet, exercised intermittanly but still didnt lose. The nutritionist where I had surgery had me take Metformin as I take anti-psychotic meds and they are known to cause weight gain. It didnt work. I have been in touch with the doctor that did my revision and he feels the problem was due to too much scare tissue from the band.He has only had this happen one other time. I am going back on Dec 6 for a "Re" revision. I am not going to name the doctor as everyone I know, or have seen on the boards have had excellent results. I am fearful that the same thing will happen again. I know I will have to lose weight if my stomach is smaller, but I am not sold just yet. Oh, the doctor is doing the new surgery for free. I cant get much better than that. Has anyone else had this problem?

    It's finally here...SURGERY DAY today!

@@Fatty McFatster sorry you had problems with your band in my "biased" opinion - the sleeve is the greatest!!! having revision surgery shows your determination you are brave enough to go through MORE surgery you want to get it right/successful with weight loss you are starting all over most of the rules with lapband are same/similar to sleeve??? you are a winner, but i'll save you a seat on the "loosers" bench!!! good luck speedy recovery kathy
  9. I was sleeved March 13, 2013 and lost 98 lbs. Then I gained 50 lbs back over the last 5 years. Had a revision to gastric bypass on September 4, 2018. My doctor and I discussed making the limb longer without performing the SIPS procedure. I feel great!! The pain was minimal compared to my 1st surgery. I've lost 7 lbs. since my surgery date. I really wish I would have done this procedure the 1st time.
  10. Hi Sarah, I have thought about this same thing. I had my plication back July of last year. Actually start out exactly at 233, like you. I have lost a little more than you, 65 lbs. But have seriously thought about revising to a gastric sleeve. Not because of the slow weight loss but because of the not knowing what is going to happen to my health down the line because of having the plication. They don't know the long term results of this surgery and it does concern me. Also, with the gastric sleeve they take out the grehlin. If I could do it over, I would defiitely get the sleeve. So expensive though. I can't justify going to Mex. again and paying more money. I have 18 lbs to go so I am pretty happy. I has been sooooooooooooooo slow since Christmas, I only have lost about 12 lbs since then. Were you this nervous for your first surgery? What country are you from? You did it the first time and you are ok, right? Why not finish what you started? You will be happy you did. I wish you well. Julie

    Travelling to get DS Surgery

Thanks to all that answered and gave advice etc. I screwed up and said I was getting a DS when inn fact I am looking for the best price (self Pay) for a Sleeve to Bypass revision. I would very much appreciate everyone's knowledge and help if you know a good place with low prices for this surgery. The closer to the west coast as possible is best as I am in Seattle. Looking forward to hearing from this great forum community! Thank you all! David

    February 2021 Sleeve Surgery

I had the gastric sleeve 9 years ago and now Im having a gastric bypass revision this tuesday feb 23rd. Gerd issues and I gained 65 lbs back throughout the years.
  13. Good to hear that the revision surgery was approved. After you have an initial consultation with a lawyer you'll have more info to help you decide which legal route to take, even if that decision is to not pursue anything at all. Good luck!
  14. Anyone had the sleeve and getting a revision due to having no restriction and weight gain? I was Sleeved April 2015 and only lost 60lbs. I’m scheduled for revision on Sept. 4th. I lost my restriction with my sleeve 6 months out and could eat regularly. I don’t have GERD issues. I’m nervous for my bypass because I keep seeing soooo many stories of people not losing enough weight or really slow. My highest weight with the sleeve was 330 in 2015. I’m currently 320. Anyone loss 100+ lbs after revision?

Has anyone heard of or used Dr Niazy Selim?

Hey Fran, Gennifer from Higginsville, MO here! I was banded by Dr. Selim at the weight loss surgical center in Overland Park, KS. He is very nice and he does a good job. I have not had any problems so far (knock wood)! I did have to have a port revision because it had flipped over. But that is just something that happens sometimes, not really a reflection on the surgeon. He was good to me and I would recommend him to anyone. Go for it! and Good luck!!! --Genn
  16. Hi everyone. I've been a lurker for a couple of months now, learning about this procedure. You guys are tough and have been through so much, and I truly admire you. My boyfriend (of only 2 month at the time of his surgery!) had a band to sleeve revision the 21st of June. I'm a nurse, so I was skeptical (having cared for some patients with some pretty gnarly complications) , but I read and read --and read and researched some more about the procedures and felt pretty okay with it. I was and told him I would be supportive, regardless of the outcome. His surgeon chose to do the revision and removal all in one day. He did great for two weeks and was moving forward perfectly on his full liquid diet, just about ready to graduate to softs. Right around day 15 or 16, he began getting nauseated with some vomiting. Then fever, so I told him not to ignore it anymore. He went in. Was dehydrated. They did an upper GI series and abdominal CT. Was seen by a gastroenterologist. They sent him in for IV fluids to rehydrate him. And they also did an endoscopy. All of this within 3 days. They found nothing but did widen/ dilate his esophageal sphincter a bit due to the appearance of some narrowing. By the end of that week, he was in the hospital. They did a CT there. Gave him IV fluids, IV antibiotics and came home 3 days later on oral antibiotics. He got through a 10 day round and started vomiting again, violently 2 days later. He went BACK in to the surgeon and he ordered another round of antibiotics, but he could not tolerate taking them in and by the time Friday rolled around this weekend, he was hardly tolerating very small sips of water and was vomiting several times an hour. The did another Barium swallow and found what they thought might be a small abscess, but the doc on call didn't want to treat it with his surgeon out of town, and then ordered the antibiotics again and told him to follow up in 1 week. One week and he would have been dead! I talked him into going to the ER Saturday morning. He called me to tell me he didn't want to do that because he didn't want to be admitted. I did a little nurse magic, and told him they couldn't make him do anything. All he had to do was tell them he wanted to be hydrated only and go home. Luckily, when we arrived, they popped him a bag of fluids, zofran and a dose of pain meds and did a CT of his abdomen. They found the "abscess" but later determined the original CT on 7/15 (at the hospital) had been misread and he had a leak with some minor pooling outside of his stomach. So now he has been in the hospital 5 days. He has a PICC line in for TPN, tons of IV fluids and antibiotics, is NPO. The gastro doc did the stent this morning, but I wasn't able to be there. She said she would be putting an NG (nasogastric) tube in as an alternate feeding source (in case the docs don't want to keep him on the TPN). He called a bit ago and has been vomiting pretty violently and the Zofran hasn't helped much. Is the vomiting after the stent normal? He was doing it too much earlier to do the scan to check the stent's placement, so they are holding off until the AM. Someone tell me that this will get better? They found the leak without any major infection in his abdomen. No pain. No fevers. And it wasn't an abscess after all. Just vomiting. So, I certainly think that is a good sign overall, but I'm scared for him. Thanks for listening-- to this book!!! ~worried girlfriend~

    Band to Sleeve

I had a relatively successful band for since 2009, and this last September I had the revision to sleeve. Hmm, let's see, I had it done outpatient by a skilled surgeon. It was fast, she removed the band and did the sleeve in about an hour. I was released at 4 pm that same day. It was an easy recovery. I followed everything she suggested, and by day 3, other than muscular pain, I pretty much felt normal. Eating wise, it's quite different. Like the band, liquids and pureed food passes through, so slider foods are still slider foods. When I eat dense solids, I get satisfied very quickly. I've had the sleeve for almost 11 weeks, and I haven't slimed or got plugged yet. I did get nauseous once due to eating too fast as I was in a big hurry that day. Luckily with the band it became a habit to really chew my food and not drink after a meal so for the most part, it feels as if I never had any surgery. I can eat fruits, steak, vegetables like I did before my band but due to the sleeve I get full at about 4 oz (depending on how dense it is). I don't regret the revision at all. I did go in to have my band adjusted and wasn't seeking any revision of any kind but the doctor who saw me suggested for me to change to the sleeve to avoid any future complications since I had a history of esophageal dilation due to being too tight.
  18. Has anyone had a revision. I had my lap band taken out in March due to some awful situations and just a huge mess. Now I'm in the process of preparing for the sleeve. I'm excited but nervous. Anyone doing the revision or have had it done? What has your experience been? Thanks in advance! Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    Update on the leak...

So I went back to the doctor Friday to find out that the leak is actually in my band.. something that my doctor has never had happen to any of his patients and has rarely ever heard about from other doctors. Luckily, the company of the Realize Band are willing to replace the band for free, but I still have to pay for the hospital fees and anesthesia.. another $2300 after the useless port revision surgery I had 2 weeks ago. I think that I am really just annoyed at the fact that I had no idea that these types of surgeries (ones that you have no power over) would cost a lot more money on top of what you already paid to have the initial surgery. Not only that, but when your doctor is wrong about a surgery I think he should reimburse you for it.. but I guess that's not going to happen. I pray that none of you guys have to go through what I have gone through because it's taking a toll on me.. I guess I just have to wait to see if I get approved for another loan to have this surgery as soon as possible and I will go from there.. Good luck to all! -Allie

    Acid reflux

Has your Gerd/Reflux cleared up? I had revision surgery in May and still have Gerd and am still on my PPI !!!
  21. I'm home! No more surgeries! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAA! OK, so this one wasn't SO bad. At least it hasn't been thusfar. They didn't start the surgery until about 3 p.m. yesterday and it took almost 6 hours, so it was 9 before I got to recovery! Since it was so late, they wanted me to spend the night, which was fine with me. Got to a room around 11. They'd taken the catheter our -- I don't even remember them doing that, but anyway, they kept pestering me to urinate, so I did, then settled down to sleep until about 5. I slept really well. So, we did quite a bit. We did the implants. I can't tell you much about them yet -- can't see the boobs at all because they're so wrapped up. They feel good, if that means anything at this point. By that I mean that they feel heavier but not too heavy -- kind of like a hug. I'm sure that makes no sense! Then we did a revision to my lower TT, combined with a mons lift. Can't see that either right now and have no impression of it. When he was marking me with a sharpie before surgery, it seemed like there was a lot of skin to take off there, so I'm hopeful. It's one of those things where even if there's just a modest improvement, it'll be a lot better. Oh, yes, and I got a low profile port while I was there. I think that's going to be GREAT. I'm sure there's swelling, but for the moment, I can't feel the port from pressing on my stomach, so I bet it makes a huge difference. TBD. Lastly, we did the inner thighs. OK, pals, this one is painful. The incision for me goes from the knee all the way up into the groin and at the top, it's quite painful. It's not HORRIBLE, but it's definitely the most tender spot this time.... So, pics to come in a few days once I'm feeling better. Take care all, and happy holidays. Julie
  22. Hey Julie - wow you look wonderful, so tiny! I was also wondering about the tt after you lost the 60 lbs. Did it make a huge difference? I know you had a revision but when you say revision was it just a little tightening of the skin or did they have to do the full pulling tight of the muscle and everything?

    Where Are Thenoctober Sleever's At?

You posted on the band to sleeve revision forum - I am thinking you will find alot more Oct sleevers on the main board.
  24. I caution you to rethink getting another band, unless your current band is the old 4 cc band. I don't know of one person who's had the newer lapbands or realize bands who've kept their second band and I know many who have had them replaced. They've, without exception, had additional surgeries to remove/revise.
