Hi Alisa - I usually get about 1200 calories in a day. I was at 900-1000 for a while but I just wasn't losing and my nutritionist suggested I increase my calories, that has made a huge difference. While it's not specific here's what I usually eat for my meals: B: 3-4 ounces of Protein or 1 square of eggbeater egg bake 1/4 to 1/2 banana L: 3-4 ounces of protein (beef, chicken, fish, etc) a dairy (low fat yogurt) D: 3-4 ounces of protein 1/4-1/2 c of veggie Now that I have restriction my amounts have decreased a bit, but I still have no trouble reaching my calories, usually 1100 is about the lowest for me. Hope this helps some. If I can help further, feel free to message me!

Junkntrunk; Hey there thanks for the reply. I am doing well, sometimes I have to remind myself that "I" have been banded... I feel so good! sleeping well, started having proper 'BM's" again (thought that wouldnever happen) and now I am on the pureed DIET for 14 days. It's o.k. I had mashed up meatballs and scalloped pototes/broccoli for supper last night and it tasted pretty good. At work I sometimes still take a Protein shake, its just somuch easier + a yogurt or applesauce. I've been making pumpkin pudding too... eggs, evap. skim milk, eggs, pumpkin pie spice... I bake it in rampkins 1/2cup servings... YUM!!! What are you eating? How is your PORT healing? and where was your's placed? (Mine below my navel off to the left)

I am terrible for boredom eating. I do things like Lynda, especially playing on the computer. Sometimes just chewing a piece of gum helps satisfy that need to chew something. If I do end up eating something, I try to keep it "healthy" junk....cause really, most of us don't want a celery stick! So I will have greek yogurt sweetened with vanilla stevia and a tbsp of chocolate chips, or stove-popped popcorn with just a TBSP of oil and salt. The biggest challenge with the sleeve is our brains. They can't take it out, so we just have to deal with it!

Help with the full liquid diet
Lola.in.OKC replied to bugsandpie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi bugsandpie! Wow, can I truly relate to your statements! From what I experienced and have read, your comments are completely normal for 5 days post op - everything hurts! The overall pain keeps you from wanting to do much of anything but it will help the gas pain if you can walk every 2 hours. You don't have to go far but you do have to keep moving and gently swing your arms. I am now 4 weeks and 2 days post op and it makes ALL the difference in the world. When I was 2 days post op, I told my sister that I had made a "major mistake" and wanted to talk to the doctor about reversal. Fortunately, I didn't and can now say I'm glad I made the decision to have the surgery. By Day 5, I could no longer drink the Protein shakes without throwing them up so I got creative and made me some protein soup, pudding and yogurt! Campbell's condensed cream of chicken soup with Water and an unjury protein package became MY source of protein as I ate it 5 times a day! And my water had to be chilled but not ice cold or room temperature. Most of all, you must remember to take it slow as this was a major operation that you had. Give yourself some time to get adjusted and then try some new things. And don't forget that you have a whole community of friends here at the Bariatric Pal site who will help you. Best wishes . . . and prayers! ~Vicki -

Hi Jaime, Yes I had the Midband. So the instructions are different. On page 12 of the hand book it says: The day after the operation: liquids only (water, milk, tea, broth) The 3rd, 4th and 5th days: semi-liquids only (thinck soups, purees, yogurts, baby foods) Then eat as normal but: 1- Stop eating as soon as you feel satisfied. 2- Everyday you must have some animal Protein. 3- Drink between meals, and never fizzy drinks. I think it may have to do with the fact that the midband is flexible and it is not a rigid ring placed around the stomach. I was also sent this great CD that goes through the entire procedure. The CD was made for physicians because it does get technical as well but I got it through my dad who is a doctor. So instructions are different from band to band and also from one doctor to the next. I have been reading other posts and I do notice that my instructions were not as rigid as others. May be it was because I did not have as much weight to lose so they didn't need to put me on such a restricted diet after the surgery. I don't know.... Mary

Week 1 & 2: Clear Liquids AND skim milk, thin yogurt, Protein Drinks for Protein Week 3 & 4: All liquids; plus runny oatmeal, pudding, blended Soups Weeks 5-9: Soft foods After 9 weeks: normal food! It seems like ages since I was going through all that. I had to look at the handout to refresh my memory about how long I was on each stage.

Protein powder
CalicoskiesNC replied to disneymom1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Pure from bariatriceating.com too. I don't like it in hot foods or clear liquids. I use it in applesauce, yogurt and pudding. I try to eat 2 scoops a day. The rest of my protein I am able to get thru food. -
Welcome and congrats, Venus! I love the soups from Trader Joe's - they are creamy and delicious but still low in fat and calories. Also, my doc allows yogurt, and I've become addicted to Fage Greek nonfat yogurt - yummmm. Then there's delicious sugar-free pudding and sugar-free jello that helps tide me over. I was surprised at how many delicious liquids are out there, it just takes some time and effort. Good luck!

You did not mention how much you were eating, or how often. Without that information, it would be impossible to say if you are eating too much. I hope that you met with a registered dietitian pre op to educate you about proper food choices and the amount you are allowed to have at each meal. For me, I was instructed that every meal was to have 3-4 oz of lean Protein and 2 oz of a Fiber carb. I am also supposed to be having either 2 cups of 1% milk, or SF and FF yogurt every day. I have not been able to meet my daily Calcium requirements through the dairy products, so I was told to increase my calcium supplement. Though every doctor approaches their practice a bit differently, if you have not been provided with clear guide lines to follow for your meal planning, it would be helpful to get some.

Sleeve Stricture Or Obstruction?
lessofmeismore replied to Capt Kirk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay. Bless her heart, she is still very fresh in her recovery and has already been put thru it. My diet at 5 weeks was only mushie puree foods. Things like soups and oatmeal, yogurt, mashed pot.... I did try some moist canned tuna with a lil mayo and it hurt my sleeve at that stage. I still drank two proteins shakes a day and a few bites of food was pretty much my days intake. I would see if she can SIP some pineapple juice. Tiny sips. Wait a while then try just clear liquids for 24 hours and then a very mushy diet for a week. If this helps. If it doesn't she should seek help for hydration. Try and avoid meats for another week. Please keep us updated. She is very lucky to have such a loving husband! -
I have a 1.8 cc fill also. I have hot coffe or tea first thing every morning before anything else. In fact, that is usually all that I have. Around 10:00 I have a protein drink and then yogurt for lunch. By late afternoon I am usually able to eat protein and vege's or pretty much anything (except bread or tortillas). Also, I know they tell you not to drink with meals but I often have hot tea with me evening meal to help me get it down. I don't pb very often but if I do I stay away from anything solid for several hours. It took me a while to figure out my "system" but this is the one that works best for me. Good luck and don't give up.

I've been lactose intolerant most of my adult life and can tolerate cheese and yogurt but not milk or much ice cream (now I don't eat it at all). I have been drinking the Premiere shakes recently and haven't had an issue. Your mileage may vary. You may want to try some protein powder in your yogurt or mixed with crystal lite. That's a bummer. Hope you feel better soon.

And all of a sudden my shakes make me sick. I drank them since day 1 post op and only the past three days, after only 2 or three sips, it sends me flying to the bathroom in a sweat and coming out of both ends (sorry tmi). I've heard of lactose intolerance after surgery, but I've been fine with skim milk, cheese, yogurt, and all other dairy. Thoughts? I use the premier protein shakes from Costco.

I am super tight in the AM, but also pretty hungry. The 2 breakfasts that work for me are" 1 - Carnation Instant Breakfast (made w/ skim milk) 2 - Greek non fat yogurt, with a mashed banana, sweetened with a little honey (sometimes I can add a little crushed, high Protein, flax Cereal for crunch) Of course, you could always do a Protein shake, but I think I "overdosed" on them in my immediate post-op days.

My typical Breakfast is FF yogurt w/ granola & fresh berries. A scrambled egg, oatmeal w/fresh fruit, or EAS Carb Control Shake are my other options.

Disneyland NO SEATBELT EXTENDER!
Aggiemae replied to Aggiemae's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Disney Princess Character Breakfast today . Egg white frittata with chopped tomato, cilantro, avocado and lime. Husband ate my hash browns. My sons girlfriend, Gaby at my (4 strips!) bacon. Aaron ate my danish, yogurt and fruit, except on chinch of pineapple. Many photos where taken... I already walked 4 miles today before I can back to the hotel to swim. I fell earlier today so I might need an old lady scooter this afternoon as we will be in the park from 5pm till closing... we'll see. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Hello all! My Dr wants me to use a protein powder to ensure I'm getting 60-80 grams per day. I'm hoping to mix it into foods I'm already eating, like yogurt or anything else mushy. Is there a flavorless protein powder out there? I went to gnc and they tried to sell me chocolate, but I'm just so sick of chocolate shakes! Lol! Thanks for your help! Merry Christmas!

I'm in the same boat. Not sure exactly what you guys are approved for, but I'm allowed greek yogurt and unsweetened applesauce. That helped a little bit today. I also got a cookbook of smoothies so that I can mix it up a little bit. Looking forward to what others say.... Let's hang in there!

I was sleeved on Aug 21st after having the lap band removed. Had my first post op appt today and I'm down exactly 15lbs. It's great motivation to get me through the next week of all liquid diet. I'm excited about soon adding yogurt to the mix. Crossed fingers its tolerated well.

I have been told I am allowed full liquids with no bits in. So that's anything that would tip out of a glass or bowl, nothing like yogurt or custard. I am in the Uk so don't have access to all the protein supplants that you do in the US. I am trying something called Complan if you have heard of that, it is meant to be nourishing and used after periods of illness that's going down ok

At A Loss (Not Weight Loss)
Darktowerdream replied to MrsSpooky's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I understand the situation very well, lifelong chronic illness and disability along with metabolic disorders and inability to exercise at all I fought for gastric bypass surgery I desperately needed the tool because my own efforts were not sustainable. To be honest I had to drastically cut carbs/sugar and calories. Prioritize protein first, find the calories that you start losing weigh at. I only started to increase my calories once I hit goal. Make sure to get minimum of 0.36 grams protein per 1lb body weight. And honestly exercise isn’t really for weight loss, building muscle is. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn. If you can do some resistance exercise some strength training maybe through physical therapy. That might help. For me my medical condition, exertion causes muscle weakness and damage and for me to feel ill. I can understand not being able to rely on exercise. But if you are able to do limited exercise look to building muscle. And that’s also why you need to prioritize protein over calories. Getting maximum protein for minimum calories. Also be mindful of sticking to three meals and how much snacking and start tracking your daily calories and protein along with tracking foods you eat each day to see what helps or hurts. just one example: I like mixing yogurt like Fage plain, TwoGood, or oikos triple zero with 1/2 scoop of PEScience protein powder. recipe example: oikos triple zero peanut butter banana, with 1/2 scoop PEScience peanut butter cookie protein powder = 160 calories, 27 grams protein. I mix it I a bowl with a bit of pink salt and stick it under the freezer 30 minutes and mix it again. A little low sugar jam and it tastes like pb&j polaner sugar free with fiber I think ... these days I add a little low carb granola for crunch. (Sola granola 15 gram portion is 70 calories and 4 grams protein 2 net carbs) And some sugar free land o lakes whipped cream. Overall very low carbs. PEScience http://rwrd.io/c6uus2e -
Ok these are the things I tried. Egg drop Soup, pudding, yogurt shake all on different days of course. How did it go down? Not to great. It made me nauseated all day long. I guess its viscosity was just a tad to much. But as of right now I am drinking the atkins low carb shakes from walmart/sams. Thicker than broth but not near a yogurt shake. I can only handle 1 a day as of right now. The rest of the day is either apple juice , Water, or crystal lite. Thats just what I can handle but everyones different. Goodluck on ur choices

One year ago I was rolled down the isle in an 2XL gown, big ole booties and a smile because I knew my life would change. I went in prepared to face the challenges and joy that this decision would cause me. The first month I survived the liquid diet, post-surgery pain and discomfort and lost bonus 10 lbs that I have yet to see again. The second month I noticed my clothes getting looser and another 5 lbs gone, I can eat but the problem was I wanted to eat everything so I was welcomed to Bandster-Hell. The third month I had gotten my first fill 2ccs humm felt tight for like a day then back to eating it up… good thing no weight gain and another 2lbs gone. Month four, I noticed my size 22’s are falling off of me literally and another 2lbs gone, this is going slow I thought time for a fill and off I went another 2cc’s now 4ccs in a 10cc band. Month five another 2lbs goneI am still hungry and my 20’s are fitting loser, food still goes down pretty easily, and I have yet to experience a stuck episode I was so happy. Another .5 ccs in the band. 4.5 ccs Month Six no weight loss nothing, not a pound, I am starting to feel full faster but I can still eat two burritos and taco bell. And my workouts are sporadic time to make an appointment with the doctor .5cc’s he said I say more but I will see. Month Seven, Had .5cc’s in my band I don’t think that will do much of anything for me, but I took the doctor said wait another week and if it doesn’t work out then I can come back however, I got really busy with life and alas no weight loss but bread is off the menu forever, I experienced my first episode of slime and stuck with a piece of pork chop, and then a piece of bread. 5.5 ccs in the band I am halfway full that has got to count for something. Month eight, I am feeling discouraged I ended up not losing any weight this month, I lost 5lbs with my fill and I gained it back. I don’t know why because I can’t eat as much, and I am moving more it is spring and hot around here. I ended up having hernia surgery and couldn’t get a fill until I recovered from my surgery and I finally got the fill I wanted 1 cc’s now I am more than half way there 6.5cc’s and I am really feeling that day to day stuff that I have read about on the boards, feeling tight in the morning, I can eat a yogurt and be stuffed, and be satisfied for hours oh and my 20’s are now gone, I am now in a very loose fitting 18…I can’t wait. Month nine, it has been a few weeks since my fill I lost another 5lbs which is nice and my 18’s are gone I am in a 16 which I haven’t been in since 2003, I still have a ways to go I somehow thought I would have gotten further in my pounds lost but it is not that bad. I would have hit this point without my band. My eating is good I think I have hit my sweet spot but some days I am a little tighter I have learned to eat slow, I can’t eat fries, bread, and dry turkey oh and nothing on the McDonalds dollar menu goes down… so no bad foods for me. Month ten, weight loss has slowed down I think my body is doing the starvation hold, so my goal to combat it is to increase my exercise. Month eleven, I have increased my exercise and I am starting to feel better, I went shopping and no matter what store I went in I fit the 16’s and some were even loose and I lost another 5lbs this month. Now at month twelve I don’t regret my decision to have the band, my life has changed in my activity level my confidence I am still struggling or say dealing with the consequences of not planning my meals, eating too fast or trying those forbidden foods, but I know I am this for the long haul which is awesome to me. I have increased my activity level and plan to keep that up, I will be at my goal weight next year this time and with my band to use as my food tool, and my motivation as my next I will be there… Happy Bandiversary!!!

I had surgery on 10/10/11. I have had 3 fills since then totaling 2.7cc's. My PA initally put in 3 cc's at my first fill, but Water wouldn't pass so she took 1cc out. Then, I got .5cc at my second and .2cc at my third. So far, I have noticed I need to chew well and slow down. I have gotten stuck a few times from eating too fast, but it has not helped with keeping me full for hours. I still get hungry about 2 or 3 hours after a meal. When will the band start helping me stay full? This is my biggest problem. When I force myself to wait for the next meal and struggle through the hunger pains, I find myself eating fast because I'm starving and then I get stuck. My foods consist of Protein shakes, cottage cheese, plain greek yogurt, tuna, chicken, salads, cheese sticks, Protein Bars, and nuts. I think I'm overeating sometimes because I try to eat more thinking that it will hold me over longer. I have only lost 20 pounds since surgery (about 5 pounds a month) and my stomach is still always growling. When will the physical hunger go away??
