    Disappointed Post-Op By Pass

Thanks everyone. I did the liquid diet pre-op diet yesterday, walked 4 miles, and as of this morning I have lost a half a pound (could be legit, could be water weight). I think this is just going to be harder and slower for me than others and than I was hoping it would be. I’ll talk to my Dr. at my next check up and will do whatever she says. I’m hopeful the nutritionist will give me a menu to follow because I seem to do better when I follow a rigid restricted menu, clearly. Mostly, I needed to vent my frustration to people who would understand and sympathize. Thank you for all for reading, lending some thoughtful advice, and having my back. I was really hoping for a bigger loss by now and just haven’t had the same experience as other testimonials I read. I’m losing, even if not quick. The disappointment overcomes me sometimes... *I am weighing at home. It is linked to my Dr’s record via an app. Batteries are good. **I eat 1 or 2 dried prunes occasionally to keep regular because my bowel movements are few and far in between. ***I have a mobility-limiting degenerative spinal birth defect so many physical exercises are off limits. It is a contributing factor to my weight gain over the years and limits my exercise options. I do as much as I can within my limits. In addition to walking, I have a Wii and do the bike ride, marches, yoga, and balance related games. My job involves walking all day, across a large campus, and going up and down flights of stairs all day. I only wear my Apple watch when i walk at the park. The miles I list here are above and beyond the usual 1-2 miles I do in the course of a day at work. I’m not sedintary but I don’t do Zumba, ya know? ****I don’t measure inches, but clothes all fit exactly the same and nothing is looser.

    Jealousy and weight loss!

for the last twenty years I was over weight, whey bigger the my older brother! now im alot smaller now he just hates it. I have thirty pounds to my goal weight of 180.in the past i was down to 190 and took a break from any thing to do with weight loss, after two years of living on a low calorie diet and walking I, just needed a break to clear my mind. I had a problem and a fear of weight gain and I let my self gain a few pounds back and i m happy to say that I can gain a few pounds and I, can lose weight as I want.........I have the power to lose and the knowledge to do it. as of today I, will start watching my weight and start counting calories again. I hope every one out there is taking time to lose weight! good luck I, will be talking to you soon as I start to come closer to my goal weight! JOHN
  3. I just had surgery a month ago. I'm not in a relationship currently. I'm 30 years old. I don't have any plans on ever having a child, but if I did... I have a huge concern now given the bypass. My mother gained 100lbs when she was pregnant with me when she was 22 (she ate very healthily, but her hormones went nuts). She is just now losing that weight... 30 years later. I am terrified that would happen to me and destroy any potential weight loss success I've had. Has this happened to anyone that has gotten pregnant? Is this a concern for anyone?

    tense in tennessee

Wow things are so different from place to place. Here in NY it was a six month process of seminars, exams, nutritionist, losing 10% of weight, psych consult, etc. Very strict, any weight gain they'll cancel your surgery. Best of luck hope your process goes smoothly.

Loosing weight but not feeling like it !

I can relate to how you are feeling Janie.. Right now I'm feeling real fat and bloated even though the scales show NO weight gain, but and my clothes are still fitting really loose I know it is from my monthly cycle getting ready to start any day now..I always feel thisway right before my cycle..its in my head I think!
  6. Hi everyone i have a question. When you are loosing weight and you feel like your clothes are looser , and you see it in your face . You feel like your hanging down stomach is smaller ,You start feeling your ribs you look down at your legs and they look smaller. All the little things that you notice whereas other people might not notice. Guess i am rambling but You feel like you are loosing some without even getting on the scales. Do yall know what I am talking about? WELL since I have started loosing I have felt like it, except for this week. I was sure i had gained this week and was really surprised when the scales showed a half pound drop. But I am uneasy about how I feel. I am wondering if anyone else has felt this way. I dont feel like I am loosing but gaining even the scales say differently. I read on another post that a weight gain or loss could take up to 10 days to show up on the scales. This maybe one of the silliest and vague posts yet But anyway thanks...Janie

    Anyone at goal and maintaining?

I asked my surgeon about getting unfilled at goal, and he said "no way". He gave an example of one of his patients who insisted on being totally unfilled, and who was back two months later and 30 kgs heavier. That completely freaked me out. Of course, he was talking about a total unfill, and I doubt the patient he was referring to was doing any exercise. In fact, it seems like s/he must have just gone back to the exact same eating habits that made him/her fat in the first place. What concerns me though is that I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life being tight and eating minute quantities, but does it mean that as soon as you start eating a bit more, you're bound for weight gain? It sounds as though you're committed to a new lifestyle that includes a lot of exercise. For that, you also need to be consuming an adequate amount of calories, and if that means getting unfilled to a certain point, then I'm sure that's what you need to do. It would seem that it would be a question of finding the right level of restriction (like when you were trying to lose) that enables you to eat enough to maintain, despite the amount of exercising you do, but not enough to gain. BTW, your weight loss is completely inspirational. Congratulations!
  8. So I went to my Dr today to start my 6 month diet plan and i have to go to a new doctor since i'm in college and can't make it back to my hometown doctor. and talking to her she wants me to start all over with the diet and exercise and diet medications! I tryed to explain to her that i've already been there done that didn't work! She just kept on how i should changed the current medications i'm on like the depo (because i get really bad migraines and cramps that put me out for days) to something else and my migraine medicine and my depression medicine because the side effects are weight gain....hello i wouldn't be on most of them if my obesity wasn't causeing me to feel depressed and down and then she tells me that she doesn't want to fill out the papers for my diet plan because she doesn't feel qualified....all it is gonna be is her signing the papers saying i'm trying to go to the gym and eat right yadda yadda.... She flat out said to me she doesn't support weight loss surgery! what should i do i feel like if i switch docters again it'll look strange and i don't wanna push back getting my surgery since i'm in my senior year and will only have insurance till december! I'm so upset I've been eating good for more than 2 months and no change in fact i gained 5 pounds and exercising i just don't understand i feel like i'm lost and the doctor just doesn't get it! any advice or words of wisdom i could really use some

    Anti-Depressants

I'm really happy to hear that you don't require his support to proceed with the surgery. Wellbutrin is an ok antidepressant and weight gain isn't a side effect like many other antidepressants but if you have been managing since your father's death with therapy alone that is great. It's so hard to get off antidepressants once you start, trust me I know! And congratulations on quitting smoking since that would definitely get in the way of getting the lap band. I know what a struggle that is too! Congratulations on taking control of your life and proceed without the Wellbutrin. It sounds like you may need a new PCP, but in the end you will be happy with your decision. Good luck!

    Anti-Depressants

Had you already been on antidepressants? And was he just changing your meds? Reason I am asking is because wellbutrin is not suppose have the weight gain side effect that most antidepres. do. And if you could lose the weight by switching meds without going thru surgery, awesome. Or he may feel you gained due to depression and that is why he prescribed them. I have gained 50lbs in 15 yrs due to my meds. That is why I am thinking this way. My doc agreed after I had no alternative(wellbutrin didn't help my anxiety). Good luck.
  12. G'day from Melbourne, Australia! (sorry - I'm a metric girl - 140kg or about 315 pounds) (sorry also for the long first post - there's a lot to say to begin with....) I am SOOOO glad I found you all on this forum - reading your posts over the past week, and viewing all those inspirational before / after shots has helped me in my decisions and plans immensely. God Bless you all for sharing and caring so much:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: - I hope that I may contribute to the forum as well as the benefits I'm already enjoying. I'm 34, a mother of one boy (who's 5), married to a WONDERFUL man (he always cheers me on, and thinks I'm sexy however I look! Bless him!). I work part-time as a consulting environmental scientist. I have been thinking of getting banded for over a year - but only just started to discuss it with my hubby. I got a referral from my GP this week, and will meet with surgeon later this week (with Mr Chris Hensman at EndoSurgery Victoria, Mulgrave).:nervous I have fought the battle of the bulge since I was 16 - when my mum joined me at WW - since then I've been the classic yo-yo ride of WL support systems, diets and pills. Depression and control issues with food haven't helped either (Man! How do I relate to some of the stories posted to the forum!) I want to GET OFF THE ROLLER COASTER - NOWWWW!!!! My weight has hovered around 135kg since just after my son was born. My hubby was made redundant from his job at the same time, so my emotions and eating were all over the place for a LONG time. I maxed out at 138 - 140kg during last year.:omg: I'm currently around 132kg. (I'm so ashamed...) The thing is, until recently, I've never felt big or heavy. Because I'm a pear-shape, and therefore most my fat is on my legs / hips / rear end, it's kind of "out of sight, out of mind". Only this year have I felt too big / fat / tired / slovenly / unfit / "insert any other of your favourite self-depretiating terms here" (they'd apply here) to get off my but and do things - even things I love to do like play with son (who can run like the wind) or gardening. Cleaning the house even feels like too much effort... I feel like that a lot of the emotional baggage I've been carrying around has been put down over the past year, and is now GONE FOR GOOD. :clap2: Hubby and I have a stable, Christian marriage, we have a loving home life and good jobs and career prospects. It was a long struggle. I also feel like I'm able to finally put down the bags I've carried siince school days, feelings of insecurity and inadequacy (God knows why I have them in the first place, but the mind is a beast...). I honestly feel that if I can make a break in the weight gain-loss cycle, and lose the excess weight once and for all, that I'd have a great chance that the fat would also be GONE FOR GOOD. I guess none of this is new to many / most of you in LapBandTalk land. Anyway, it's these new feelings about myself that have shocked me into doing something more to lose the kilos- enter the LAPBAND - dadadadaaaaaa!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: My hubby & I REALLY want more babies - but right now I'm too scared of complications / dying to contemplate getting pregnant yet. I can't seem to lose the 15kgs and 5 years of age I put on since I had my son... The desire to make some new people for our family to love is also contributing influence to my decisions right now, but not the main motivation. Initially, I'd like to get down under 100kg before trying for another baby, and then after that continue on towards an ultimate goal of 60kg - 70kg (would be nice on a 5ft 4inch girl...). I think I was about 15 when I last saw my weight defined by a number lower than 70kg.:cry :faint: :help: I'd like to hear from anyone who has conceived / had a baby after LapBanding (how soon after can we go for it - I've heard 2 years, but that's too long!). My GP suggested we had a baby (or two) first, and then the LapBand - the way I feel right now, I don't think that would be sensible - I can almost feel diabetes or a heart attack at the thought of it!:sick Also, I am really nervous about how I will adjust to the Bandster's lifestyle given how much and how often I eat. Feelings of hunger / fullness / satiety etc are almost meaningless to me right now. I'm looking forward to changing this, but for now, the thought of restricting food volume and types fires up those old feelings of rebellion!:hungry: :angry Thanks for the inspiration so far - looking forward to chatting with you again soon!

    Loosing too much weight

Are you eating your maintenance phase food instructions to slow/stop weight loss? 1000 calories will keep you in weight loss mode. Glad you are slowly increasing them. 14. I actually had an appointment with my therapist today, (thanks to everyone for encouraging me to get in with her sooner rather than later) and after a lot of talking and processing, I went no contact with my sister and 2 other acquaintances for my own mental health. I know I’m going to need every ounce of it in the next 6 months. It sucks, but this is for ME!! I have suffered from chronic Panic disorder since I was in a severe wreck, so when I feel like I’m being insulting, or mean, or anything like that I start to freak out, so I just try to avoid confrontation even if it’s something that hurts me (talk about unhealthy). But that’s something I’m working on. I’m learning quickly the thinner I physically get, the thicker my skin needs to be. My weight has never been a joke per se, but the people in my life have told me my wreck (and 7 major reconstructive surgeries), my hypertension, and the medicine I’m on (serious serious weight gain implications) (125 lbs in 18 months, eating cucumbers and balsamic for almost every meal) isn’t an excuse to have gained this weight nor a reason to have surgery to rid myself of it. So to them it’s just always been invalid. My therapist also mentioned that the reason I’m getting so many negative reactions, comments, and people walking away after telling me I’m an idiot, ignorant, going to be a failure, and am “ruining my life for one year max of looking good” is because almost everyone in my life is either obese or morbidly obese. And to them it’s seen as “not fair” and “the easy way out.” This board has provided more support to me in 13 days than anyone in my entire life. I’m so grateful to have found it and to be a part of this community. Thank you for taking the time to respond and provide me with some more insight and encouragement that I can do this! I know I seem like a wuss complaining and seeking advice and encouragement, and so many people do and have done this “alone.” Thanks again, I appreciate you. I’m gonna start practicing the BCABD way of life and tell people sayonara! I really hope I’m not being a burden on anyone. I know I’m long winded. I’m sorry!

    feel like a failure

From all that I've read about the lapband, your band could have slipped, I believe that can cause weight gain and vommitting. You should definately go back to the doctor, you will feel so much better:redface:
  17. Had gastric sleeve surgery 11-29-2016. Went from 398 lb, down to 210. I'm currently 250 and it was what I called "covid" pounds because of staying home and eating small meals but too frequently during the day. Has anyone else had these weight gain issues and how did you address it?
  18. Has anybody gained weight from the time they completed 6 months supervised weight loss to time to get clearances done? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Your favorite pre-band meal

Interesting thread! Well, I owe all my weight gain to Taco Bell My usual meal ~ 1 Beef Fiesta Burrito 1 Nacho Supreme 2 Taco Supremes Totals :Banane20: ~ serving weight 602g 1240 calories 66g fat 140mg cholesterol 2740mg sodium 119 carbohydrates Oh yeah, on top of all that, add an XL Dr Pepper! I can't even imagine eating that much now ... and to think, that was just 1 meal outta the day no wonder I reached 300+ lbs!
  20. I had my surgery last June. I'm at my goal weight and I've lost 85 pounds. My weight has been stable for 4 months. Starting in June my doc says it's safe to try and get pregnant. I'm sure I can take enough vitamins to keep the baby and myself nourished. How did your weight gain go? And of course I'm curious how the weight loss will go after I have the baby. Any stories or advice?
  21. Hello everyone.. I’m new to this group... I had a upper GI the end of April and my EGD this past Thursday.. I’m going back to the doctor on 5/22/19to discuss my next options. I had a sleeve done 8/2013 and of course like I have read there has been weight gain and reflux and sleep apnea. I am still on blood pressure meds and my CW is 227... wondering if this process will be the same as before? Is it a harder recovery? Will I loose a significant amount of weight? I do have BCBS insurance..Just wondering what to expect...Any feed back is welcomed.
  22. Hi everyone, I am 5 weeks, almost 6 weeks since my gastric bypass. I did have an IUD put in on day 9 and haven't stopped bleeding. That might be TMI but it might help explain some things. After week 2, I got down to 261lbs. I was 283 in the hospital after surgery. I did really well. Now I'm up to 266.5. Some daily info on me is my BMR is 1962.85, I use about 2,777 calories a day, I take in about 60 to 70 oz of water, and I eat about 800 calories a day. Why am I gaining weight? I've been around this weight for the last 3 weeks. I've heard of stalls, but a 3 week stall right out of the gate? Am I failing at weight loss surgery? As far as exercise, I haven't been released to do anything besides walk, and I could be better at that. I will get on that actually, going to try to hit the gym tomorrow and get back on track with that. My food looks like this: Morning: Protein shake with 20g protein, 9 carbs, 7g fiber, 2g sugar (I have to use plant based for it to not come back up) I add 8oz of almond milk and decaf coffee. I use very low fat low sugar almond milk with 30 calories. Lunch: either 2 pieces of sliced turkey with 2 pieces of thin sliced cheese or Tuna or Greek Yogurt and a baby bel Snack: light baby bel Dinner: Usually the same as lunch, however, I haven't been tolerating much for dinner very well so I have had two night of cherrios and almond milk for a total of 130 calories. I was released to eat cold cereals as long as they have less than 3g of sugar. I will take any advice, any dinner advice, any work out advice. Please help a momma out!!! Thanks
  23. Theresa, what wonderful advice/thoughts! Thank you very much for taking the time and giving all the detail. I'm sure you've helped many people today. Anthony, I very much hop you can find some relief from you pain without having your band taken out. The distinct possibility exists that removal wouldn't alleviate the pain, and then you'd have weight gain to worry about too. If something had actually been damaged during band installation surgery, there's no reason to think that band removal will help. Only if the band is actually causing your pain in an ongoing way will removal help, and unless that can be definitely proven it seems a very expensive and drastic step to take. Please keep us posted...
  24. Bariatric surgery is every bit as much "weight gain prevention surgery" as it is "weight loss surgery." If you can document a history of morbid obesity, there's absolutely no reason an insurance company would deny you because you suddenly lost a bunch of weight. Your history would prove conclusively that you WILL gain it all back. Conversely, if you don't have a history of morbid obesity, and you just put on a bunch of weight in the last year or so, no insurance company would approve you because it's still possible the weight gain is temporary and your dieting will be successful.
  25. @@Hiraeth That's amazing! I am so happy for you. I have PCOS and the fatigue and weight gain (plus sleep apnea!) were miserable. It feels so wonderful to get your life back. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to hear more on your progress.
