  1. Very happy for you! Congrats!! I too, am hoping for a revision to the sleeve. I got my band in 2008, then a revision due to slippage in 2013. Not sure if I will be able for the conversion to the sleeve. I want to be free of my band too!!
  2. Hi. I had my initial band surgery in 2008. Needed a revision due to a slippage in 2013. I am now hoping for a conversion to the sleeve. Has anyone ever had this done after a prior revision? Thanks.
  3. I had the band for 8 years. Revised almost 6 months ago and haven't pb or slimed once. It's a much easier surgery in my experience. You will be well prepared to eat properly.

    Help! Advice needed

Thanks for the replies. I did check out the band to sleeve revision forum (thanks for the tip) and didn't realize how many complications the band had. I guess I have a lot to think about. My BMI is high enough to qualify if I also have sleep apnea and I am having the sleep study done on 1/5. After that, I will know more. I also have the 6 month waiting period for insurance so plenty of time to research. Thanks for all of the replies. I would love to hear more, if anyone has the time to share their stories. ????

    Who Are You?

Hello all my name is Carol I live in Michigan and I have been married for 18 years and have 4 children 2 boys 2 girls 20, 18, 15, &13. I have the Gastric sleeve on December 5 2011 and I only lost 50 pounds and then started gaining it back slowly but surely. I then went to a different doctor to see what the problem was and he suggested to do a scope to look at the sleeve. He did that and suggested I have a revision called Duo Denal Switch. I just had this surgery on November 18, 2015. It was not as bad as I thought. Yes I was scared and almost said forget it but my doctor was the best ever. Once surgery was over my doctor told me the original sleeve was not done correctly so he fixed that and did the switch and he also removed my appendix and gall bladder because after these surgeries a lot of people end up back in hospital to have one or both removed due to issues song thank him for that. I have only lost 25 pounds so far. I have to get on a schedule because I find if I eat every couple hours I loose more weight than when I don't eat. I can eat just about anything but only a couple bites of what I eat so I must eat good choices. I have been eating a lot of chicken and fish no fried but I am kinda sick of it I need to find creative healthy meals. Taking the vitamins really help me have energy because after surgery I had no energy and slept a lot. I don't go back to work until January 11. The doctor kept me off longer than I expected because he is so careful and wants to make sure I'm great before I go back.

    Help! Advice needed

I can't offer much, I'm only 10 days post op but originally that is what I wanted. After research I decided against the band due to complications, always getting fills, and having a foreign object. The first doctor I went to was opposite as yours. I wanted sleeve by that point he suggested band but was willing, I found a new surgeon as the only reason was band was that surgeon's specialty. I researched alot on here and after my initial thoughts band was never an option. Keep reading and be sure to ask the people who had band to sleeve revision Also to had there are success stories with the band for me though sleeve was the better option.
  8. I had a revision I'm always starving and over eat. I'm not losing much weight but really don't care just trying to get protein before I go completely bald but I hate shake they literally make me gag!! Need fellow revision patients experience please!!!

    360+ pounds?!? help!

This is why I am going for a revision from lapband which is pure misery to bypass.I definitely will not be sitting in the group of 3x is a WLS charm.I have developed so many issues thanks to lapband which is a failure and has done its share of damage...I can't afford to cut 85% of my stomach.no way... I am getting a revision to bypAss December 28.Cant wait to start my new successful journey...
  10. I wanted to have the revision from band to sleeve done at the same time. My surgeon said he wouldn't know if he could do it at the same time until he got inside and saw how much scar tissue and adhesions there were. He opted to remove the band and clean out some of the adhesions, and let my stomach heal before doing the sleeve. Some people are able to have the revision to sleeve all in one surgery... maybe it depends on the extent of damage the band has done. He should do what his doctor advises and considers common protocol for his practice. My surgeon explain that the band leaves a thinned section where it has been around the stomach, much like when you take off a wedding ring and the finger is compressed smaller... and he prefers to let the stomach heal before doing the sleeve.. especially if there is extensive scar tissue and/or damage from slippage.
  11. Hi Gigi, I made the revision from lap band to gastric sleeve recently. My doctor required a three month wait between band removal and sleeve surgery. He said a lot of the callous tissue that builds around the band will subside if given a waiting period. It made sense to me, and asking around in my area at seminars pre-decision to do this, all the doctors (under my medical coverage) in my local area were of the same opinion. They said simply, waiting was safer. The band removal was quick. I was in surgery and out same morning. The port site, removal, was the most painful area for a few days. The sleeve pain levels were less than the band removal, however new eating rules and such of course have been a much bigger event after the sleeve. Best wishes to your husband, and you. It's great to see your support already in this, as My husband has been terrific supporting me.
  12. I had a band to sleeve revision on Nov 5th and I have never experienced pb or slime.
  13. You have to check with your own insurance, but it's my understanding that most insurances will cover a revision even if they didn't originally cover a wls. My mom's insurance doesn't cover any wls but will cover a revision if you are having complications because it would be deemed medically nessacery.

    Happily Not Looking Back

Hi all, Wanted to drop an update on here. I've run in to some more complications post-op than I'd like. I'm that low percentage of patients who apparently have issues. When I actually had my operation, my stomach pouch leaked, so they did a revision on the spot, which basically just means they stapled more off. This resulted in an even smaller pouch than the standard RnY patient. It also meant some very deep stitches to keep everything from moving around. So, post-op, the stitches (which were sealed in place on the surface with staples) were the source of tremendous amounts of pain. I have a high pain tolerance, and hydrocodone wasn't even touching my pain. I ended up going back in, they ran some labs, gave me IV fluids, took the staples out, and told me to continue to lie low, it should heal on its own. After a few more days of my pain being at a 12 on a 10 scale, it did finally get better. Then, earlier this week, I started having an issue with the pureed food I was eating just sitting in my stomach. The only way I could move it was to throw it up. This was happening with food and liquid/water. So I went back in again, and after an upper GI, they determined my stomach was very, very slow to empty. Now I'm waiting for 2 weeks to have them go in with a scope and balloon open my connection from my pouch to my intestine. In the meantime, I'm back on a liquid diet. So, I guess my update isn't really that positive, but there it is. My weight continues to fall off. I'm down 36 pounds from surgery just over 4 weeks ago, and soooo close to being below 300 for the first time in I don't know how long. Those are positive. But I'd really like to be semi-normal now...
  15. Just want to congratulate all Sleevers on your success and wish you all a Happy Holiday. I am having revision to sleeve on 28 December and I am ready. I will be in hospital alone until the.New Year. Respond back if you would like, if not Happy New Year????

    360+ pounds?!? help!

@ I was 302 pounds the first day I met with my program director. I am 5'2 and that is 160 pounds of extra (unnecessary) weight I was carrying around, all day, everyday. Two weeks into the program I was moved into "group" meetings and there I met women from different points in the same journey. Until that first meeting, I was going towards Sleeve surgery as it seemed less invasive (it isn't), less restrictive (it is but that isn't necessarily a "good" thing) and didn't seem as drastic (umm, you completely lose part of your stomach, that's pretty drastic). During that meeting I met six ladies who had all had sleeve done and were getting revisions to Bypass. When I asked "why?", they all had a similar story. They never reached goal weight, they were still battling comorbidities and they had horrible acid reflux (worse than prior to surgery). Two of them had actually been LapBand patients prior to getting Sleeved and were now faced with a third WLS. In total, there were out of the thirty people on the program (at the same time I was) 12 of them were Sleeve to Bypass revisions. Those revision stories and the fact that I already had horrible GERD, my surgeon and I decided Bypass was best for me. He also felt that due to my obesity, my obesity related issues and my age, (30's) Bypass was a better fit. I have lost seventy pounds since having surgery on September 9th 2015 and have absolutely no regrets. None. Not a single one and everyday I feel better and better. I am off all my diabetes medicine, my blood pressure medicine and my labs are spot on with taking my Vitamins daily. Which is something I (and many others) should be doing regardless of surgery. Many obese individuals were not getting the right nutrition from the foods they were eating, anyway. I am in no way trying to persuade you in one direction or the other. I am not a medical professional and all I am offering is my story. And the reason I decided to have Bypass over Sleeve. Good luck on your journey!
  18. @@courtnojudge90 - I didn't know that was common to start with sleeve and revise to bypass with people of a certain size. I knew it was developed after the bypass, but didn't know about the revision surgery for higher BMI patients. If your insurance allows for revisions then go for it. If in doubt get a second opinion. I probably would but that is me. jane
  19. "start" with the sleeve? Then why not do the bypass now? Are you okay with surgery again for a bypass? does your insurance cover revisions? second opinion? playing devils advocate here...
  20. @@courtnojudge90 - did he explain medically why he felt that was necessary??? is he doing the bypass for free? Does your insurance cover revisions??? Sorry but I see red flags popping up everywhere unless there are good answers to those questions. jane
  21. Well, I hadn't been on here in sometime. I had band to sleeve revision 9 Feb 2015 and, didn't lose much. However, I decided to have plastics anyway. And, I must say, I have never been happier. I had surgery 3 Dec 2015. It was completely pain free. It was uncomfortable but without pain. So, I tell people that everyone is truly different. I also had really good drugs, too. Though I an still quite swollen, I'm so impressed with the outcome. I will update next week. Wishing you ask well. I couldn't figure out how to rotate pictures.
  22. I am revising to RNY because this band is misery....My friend who doesn't know I have the lapband just got the sleeve and she is doing the same thing...slime,vomit and heave....I did my research and I am revising to bypass...
  23. I am going in for a revision, lap band to sleeve. I could not take the PB or slime a few times a week. My band is considered a failure. Do you with the sleeve still have any slime or PB? I hated having to pull over the side of the road or leave from a restaurant because food would get stuck and I would have to vomit. frustrating. Curious if this still occurs with the sleeve. Thanks
  24. 55 male in southern Wisconsin. Was banded 2010 and it failed, had band removed and revision to rny on 10/26/15. I'm struggling with failure fears. I lost 40 pounds quickly after surgery, by 11/19/15, then stalled. Been stalled since then and trying to not lose hope as the lap band failed. Could use some guidance from someone non judgemental who will be truthful through this journey. Thank you!

    Loose stools

I am at two years today and only had loose stools only until I got on soft foods. Prior to my sleeve I fought diverticulitis for years, which caused frequent bouts of diarrhea. You definitely should mention this to your doctor, as it may be totally unrelated to you revision. Even if you have a colonoscopy, you will live to tell about it. They give you a drowsy nap while they are working on you, then you wake up and have someone drive you home
