Carbohydrate intake?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to retzlpa's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was given a Protein target. That, in conjunction with avoiding starches and added sugars, keeps my carbs fairly low naturally, especially when I was early in the program. I track my food in MyFitnessPal but don't really pay attention to the carb number. My driving numbers are my protein and Fluid targets. I avoid Pasta, rice, bread, potatoes and starchy vegetables like corn. In addition, I choose foods low in sugar and completely avoid anything with high fructose corn syrup (as explicitly directed by my surgeon). Pay attention to the carbs on specific foods by carefully reading labels. For instance when choosing a Greek yogurt I make sure the protein number has at least 2 digits and the sugar number has only 1. -

You're fine. Too much liquid with food (something I still can't do without yacking at 2.5 years out) isn't good. You've not damaged something, I'd guess, but you are not teaching yourself good habits by doing so. I was at 2 spoons of yogurt at 6 weeks out. Go slower, eat less at a sitting. I still eat every 2-3 hours but only a 1/2 cup at a sitting max.

Pre-Op from LONDON! Early 20's! January Date, Advice on EVERYTHING!
winklie replied to NovaL's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@NovaL Glad to help. And not being distracted while eating is HUGE. Post op, you have to learn the signs of being full, it's not always obvious. Stick to measured portions, get a food scale and weigh and log EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth. I recommend a Fitbit, as you can track your exercise and see your activity level and watch it improve. This is very rewarding. In addition, Fitbit comes with a full featured food log. Track your Protein and Water, along with a lot of other metrics. But never eat while distracted, no television, no driving and eating. Meals are a time to sit, savor each bite, and quite literally learn how to eat again. You'll be surprised how your eating habits change when you are sitting alone, or at a table with company and slowly eating a meal. It is very different than the disconnected eating we are all so used too. The only time I eat while a television is on, is when I have a yogurt at night. It is a measured portion (Oikos Triple Zero!!) and I allow myself to eat that while watching the very limited television that I watch. Best of luck, get the book! I have it right next to me and have read it twice along with several others. Alex is a good writer, he combines just enough technical aspects along with making a complex surgery easy to understand to really make the book a great read. -
I got sleeved 12/10. 7 day clear liquid which ended 12/7 after my one week check up. I was scared to try soft foods but my mom insisted saying she doesn't want me to become malnourished. So I tried Triple Zero Dannon Oikos Yogurt..I was drinking water before hand and during. I got 3 half spoonfuls in before it came back up. It was the worst stomach pain I'd felt in a while. It was all white and yogurt. Now I'm afraid to try it again and I'm afraid I might've damaged my stomach in someway. Someone give me some feedback please. I'm 21 and extremely scared I made the wrong choice.

BonitaF replied to wif3ysince08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Homemade soups, purred, ricotta cheese/marinara sauce, Oikos GREEK yogurt, cottage cheese, all types of purred beans, lentil soup. I've just been cooking things I love, omitting things off limits (lasagna w no noodles or meat), and creating great variety and flavors -
Here is a link to some pureed recipes. My favorite was Ricotta Bake. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html I ate a lot of Soups, fat free refried Beans, pimento cheese (southern thing if you haven't heard of it), yogurt (with Protein powder added), sugar free pudding snack (with Protein Powder added).

I do eggs, cottage cheese with sugar free fruit preserves. Greek yogurt, bariatric pal cereal or oatmeal, low sugar oatmeal mixed with a half scoop of unflavored protein powder, protein bars (if/when I decide to try them...then tend to make me dump). Sometimes I have non breakfast items for breakfast too if I really want to. Why not? I also make waffles out of protein powder and cook in a waffle iron and top with sugar free syrup.

Updates on December 2015 Surgeries
tappingmom replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1 week post op and I can have full liquids! Never thought I'd be this excited for 2 T. yogurt and a protein shake. -
Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with fruit, eggs ( I like mine scrambled w/ a tiny bit of cheese and salsa), Black beans with a sunny side egg & avocado, I also like steel cut oats w brown sugar & cinnamon. If I go out I get a vegetable omelet. On days when I'm not super hungry I'll have a cup of miso soup with small diced tofu.
-
I eat Greek yogurt pretty much every day for breakfast (usually with a few berries on it - although I'm not sure at what point I added the berries - it may have been a month or two into it). Cottage cheese would be a great choice, too. I eat it for lunch sometimes - it's loaded with Protein.
-
Well, I eat chicken breast for breakfast most days, but that is probably not appealing to you I would suggest: Greek yogurt with some PB2 or peanut butter stirred in, cottage cheese with salsa, salad dressing, or peanut butter, any kind of eggs (my favorite!). A small amount of refried beans with cheese is a little higher carb but filling and has good protein, too. I also like veggie burgers (the kind from Morningstar Farms and similar).
-
I'm only 10 days out , and am allowed mushy foods now. I can eat a whole egg or 4 oz yogurt without discomfort.
-
Because, I haven't had time to post what I eat. I eat: String cheese Dannon light and fit yogurt (2 a day probably) P3 (for breakfast) lunch is usually a small chili or bacon chicken ranch salad from Wendy's with light ranch. Or a Subway Turkey chop salad with fat free ranch. banana berries mandarin oranges hummus apples with cashew butter or almond butter I don't do well with meat. I started putting it in Myfitness pal today as per the request of the NP.

Homemade protein frozen yogurt
songsmith replied to cindyw41's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you want it creamy, you'll want to use a mixer. I think the mouth feel will be more like the real deal. You'll also want to add sweetener in order to minimize the formation of ice crystals when you freeze it. Well, not sure how that works with sugar free. Sugar crystals do that job, but I'm not sure if it's the crystal or the added ingredient. This person gives some great tips on making frozen yogurt. -
Homemade protein frozen yogurt
Sophie74656 replied to cindyw41's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Homemade protein frozen yogurt
BelleCurves replied to cindyw41's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You probably don't need an ice cream mixer for that recipe. With that recipe you probably just blend/process the yogurt with the protein powder and freeze. I'm sure it will taste great! -
I asked for an ice cream maker for Christmas. I found a recipe for frozen yogurt.. 6 oz yogurt 1-2 scoops of Protein drink mix Has anyone ever made it?
