  1. Thanks everyone! I'm having a really hard time with sausage and bacon and scrambled eggs being cooked here for hubby and the kids this morning for Breakfast...but k had my shake. I am second-guessing my decision about 10 times a day right now! But anyway, I'm having bypass done. I forgot to mention that in my intro post.

    Over It

@@Olivia12215 I can understand your frustration. I started at a higher BMI. I thought I would be down 50lb by now. I am not losing as fast as I hoped. Still I am losing, and more than that, I am not gaining. I don't feel deprived, I am not living with constant hunger and I lost in 6 weeks what you have taken me 4-6 months in the past. Currently I am sitting at a weight I haven't been able to get below in 10 years of trying off and on. I am just hovering in this area for 2 weeks. Right now I feel like if I don't get below this point soon, the whole thing is a failure. Even though I know mentally that isn't realistic, that is how I feel. That doesn't really help you, but I just want to say I understand being frustrated.

    1 year Surgiversary!

At one of my support groups recently the surgeon on hand told us that it's impossible to stretch your pouch. That they have done various research and test on plp even 10 years out and the pouch is the same size as day one. What does open up a bit more is the opening in the bypass you intestine is still 25 feet long and xan hold a hole bunch. And because the opening to your intestine opens up your food leaves your pouch quicker which is wgy you can eat a bit more. Also this still isn't that big of a deal untill after 2plus years cause that's when the malabsorbtion stops or slows down.

    Any success stories?

I was banded 10/16/14, and I was 250lbs.... To me my story is a success....but I have to work at it every day. Exercise, what I eat, drink, ect. and it is rare that my band acts the same every day. It's like an unpredictable child...lol. never quite know when it will act up, but do your best to steer clear of the things I know will throw it into a temper tantrum.... But being over 100lbs lighter, and healthier....I can say I would do it again in a heartbeat....
  7. The Protidiet products are very good if you're looking for something different. They do have a liquid fruit concentrate that you add with water...no lumps, no fuss and it tastes great. If you go to this website www.ishophere.biz you can look products up by name or form etc. If you click on the item you get nutrional values so you can see how much protein is in each product. They sell numerous brands and with your (I believe $20 purchase, might be a little higher) you can get 3 free samples of anything you choose (some exclusions but not many). They offer 10% off certain totals as well as free shipping and handling. I love the hot chocolate multi-flavor packs. Have fun!

    Need some encouragment

Hey hun, Number one you sound like you are doing great. Secondly your body an fluctuate up to 7 pounds a day, due to the water in your body so no worries on that. I know for me it helps making smaller goals, but not basing everything on those numbers. I make like 2-4 pounds goals that way 10 doesn't seem so out of reach. The scale is just a number, base your success on how good you feel, how much better your clothes fit, but dont worry so much about all the other stuff. Go on your trip regardless of the number on the scale, u never know if the relaxation can jump start your weight loss, and those 10 pounds melt off. Good luck hun.

    Need some encouragment

I agree! I mean, you have lost 45+ pounds. That is awesome!!! So, don't beat yourself up over it. The one thing that I would think might be holding you up is that you probably need to get something in the mornings - skipping meals just slows down your metabolism. I bet if you keep adding those Protein shakes in each day, you'll see the weight come off because your body won't go into starvation mode. Especially if you're working out. I have read SO many nutritionists articles, etc., and the early morning is the most important time to fuel your body because it jumpstarts your metabolism for the day. You'll hit that 10 lbs soon and then blow past it! Look how far you've already come! I hope to see that someday soon! (in the next few months)

My boobs are my best friend.

Well I've lost 22# since the 10 days before the diet to now (5 days after surgery) and so far I can tell in my face and my "pooch" so maybe it'll all be in my stomach!

    6 Days Post Op

I am hungry sometimes too, I'm 5 days PO, banded 8/10. Last night I had a little too much soup (I think I ate about 3/4 of a cup) and I was sooo full. I was miserable! Even tonight I'm hungry. Aargh. I start mushies on Friday. Pennie
  14. What is the pain?? I am just under 3 weeks post op ....I started soft solid food this past Thursday. Up until last Tuesday I was doing great. Tuesday I started having some pain at the incision area.... met with my surgeon & she said it was totally normal healing. However on Friday evening I started getting stomach cramps. I thought maybe I ate too much or too fast or maybe had water too close to a meal. Yesterday (Saturday) I could not eat. I probably got in about 10 ounces of water, a half a cup of chicken broth and a couple sips of a protein shake. Its 4 a.m. on Sunday morning in my stomach really hurts.... it feels like achy painful cramps in my intestines. My stomach is actually growling a little bit but the pain in my intestines makes the thought of eating impossible. What do I do? Is this normal? Will it work itself out? Should I go to drs? I just don't know what to do.... I haven't had a bowel movement since yesterday afternoon around 1 p.m. but I took stuff to clean myself out and do not think it's constipation. I've taken gas-x and pain meds to no avail....has anyone experienced this? HELP!!

    Wow, getting excited

@@Nurse_Lenora Congratulations! I have to give you a lot of credit, I could not do the liquid diet for that long. I did well on it but geez, 10 days later I swear my brain was not functioning at 100%. Granted I got so sick of the cloyingly sweet Protein shakes and everything else I was allowed was clear sf liquids.
  16. There's an odd phenomenon I see on WLS boards: People who are newly sleeved, still recovering from surgery, not eating all foods yet, and with just a few weeks or a few months of experience at being sleeved for some odd reason assume that their current condition / experience will be their permanent condition / experience. That's not true. What your experience is 10 months post-op has little relationship to how you felt / what you could do when you were a month or two months post-op. I suppose it's no different than being a teenager and thinking "Life will always be this way." No, it won't.

    Gallbladder and lapband surgeries

Ok, so i had my GB removed years before my LB. I have to still agree with Mis73. I ate and still do eat: Dairy Products Especially cheese Peanut Butter Red meat Raw Vegetables (i don't eat these because i don't like them. and now because of the band) Caffeine Alcohol I removed the fried and high fat, because those are correct. I also had trouble in the beginning with eggs & corn. Each person is different. I have a friend that still... 10+ years later still has to take a power every day or she will have diarrhea. some doctors will remove the GB at time of LB surg. due to the weight loss, most people will develop GB problems. But, the LB it self does not cause GB problems....
  18. Can you have gastric bypass and then do the sleeve years later? Just curious as my mom had gastric bypass over 10 years ago.

  20. I am super excited!!! I had my psych eval on Wednesday this week and was cleared to see the surgeon. So it was scheduled for October 16th that was the first available. I was kinda down because not being able to loose any weight what's stressed me out. Then about 10 minutes ago I got a call from the office. There was a cancellation so they want me to come in next Wednesday. I'm thrilled beyond words. The nurse let me know that they will submit my paperwork to insurance after this visit and that my surgery should be in October. I don't have anyone here to get excited with so I had to share my news on here. I hope the appointment goes well and everything gets submitted quickly. I'm also thrilled that I will be able to start walking daily and build up some strength prior to surgery!
  21. Hey all, I had my pre-admission testing this a.m., and then went to Dr. Abkin's office for Pre-Surgery Class. I'm not sure if all Docs have this class, but mine requires attendance. The Nurse Practioner was fabulous! Honestly, I didn't learn anything 'new' that I haven't learned on this board. What I did learn was pretty much a step by step of what I can expect at the hospital, what my specifics are for eating after surgery, what meds to take and hold on 1/30, etc. The best part for me; was definately having the feeling I was so much more educated than anyone else in the room. At the same time, was kind of shocked to think there are so many people out there who elect for this surgery - but don't gain the knowledge. There were minimal questions for the most part (Other than mine). There was one man in the class who, IMHO will fail. Not for lack of eating; but for his lack of awareness and COMPLIANCE. He will certainly not follow bandster rules. Said so himeself. "I don't like soft cheese", "I have to have my caffeine from soda...I don't drink coffee...I don't want to get up and be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m., I don't like dairy products, Can I fly the next day, Can I go in a hot tub, Can I jet ski. Oh yes....I am very serious. THESE were his concerns. Honestly, I'm not trying to have no value in his concerns, as they are his. But seriously man...isn't there anything MORE important you should be asking? About your meds, Protein supplements (of which NO ONE in the class is prepared with!). :omg: I think what it comes down to is this board, and all of you have SO incredibly well educated me going foward...I'm spoiled. :clap2: Anyway, I left the class feeling great. About my decision for the band; which I did doubt here and there - but no longer. I felt great about my new HEALTHY future; especially when the nurse said how HUGE of a difference just 10% of weight loss will affect/improve my recent diabetes diagnosis. And I felt great, knowing that I am going to finally have the tool to help me beat down these beasts of fat, hunger, obesity and illness. Thank you for playing a huge part in my preparation!!! :scared:

    Looking for support

Surgery complete! It went well, My surgery was at 10:00, I was in the car to go home at 2:00. I was very groggy, and slept most of yesterday. I am breastfeeding, so I have decided to not take any pain medication (tylenol if it comes down to that), so far so good! A little sore, but certainly nothing like recovering from a c-section. Thanks for checking in on me! Jenn ps I was talking with a women waiting to get a fill (she got compelety de-filled to go to Disney) - she lost 130 lbs in a year! With a 4 and 5 year old!
  23. I am on day 10 of my diet and have lost 10 pounds. Only allowed 2 Protein shakes and some raw or steamed veggies daily. Yesterday I had a bit of watermelon. At the movies I had 3 gummie candies and today I had more watermelon. I feel so bad. I hope this doesn't affect my surgery!!

    Scared and confused

I just had vsg surgery on Tuesday 10/14 I also went thru all of the same emotions as you did prior to surgery. Again as stated if you didn't I would say you weren't ready. I like you was also scared of the surgery itself, and the unknowns, well I can tell you from my experience only i went in to OR the anesthesiologist gave me my calm down meds and put a mask on me I dont remember anything else after that until waking up in recovery feeling groggy and sore and extremely dry mouth. I will not sugar coat the pain I was in a lot, no nausea just felt a lot of muscular pain trying to lift myself out of the bed and lie back down. I stayed in the hospital for 2 days. They were ready to release me the next day I was not ready I just wanted that extra day.. Once I came home I was also very sore, took my pain meds and rested a lot the first day. Today is my 3rd day at home and I am still sore it does get better every day, I have gone for short walks, focusing on getting fluids in and cannot wait for this to be a distant memory.. Hope that answers some of your questions please feel free to ask anything else. Best wishes to you
