  1. Advice ? Yes, give yourself a big hug and a pat on the back !!! You have lost 25 lbs in 5 months, or an average of 1.4 lbs a WEEK ! !! That is very healthy "normal" progress, as 1-2 lbs a week is usually whats recommended. CONGRATULATIONS ! Keep up the good work !

    How much water?

I'm about three weeks post-op and still not meeting the water goals. I generally get from 32 to 40 ounces a day (although my doctor doesn't count protein shakes into that total). Thank goodness for protein water--double duty, getting both protein and water. But it's a struggle on the water front every single day.
  3. Thanks everyone -- I guess in my mind I had gotten myself thinking INFECTION! It's so hard not to go to one of the big time problems that sometimes happen to people. I have to remember -- 2 weeks out. When I had 2 teeth pulled - 2 weeks out my gum was still so raw. This guy had a knife cutting through my interior fat! :smile2: It's just I feel good and I'm back to normal in the regular part of my life ... Thanks everyone.

    Bad Back Pain

Gman: I had the exact same problem! It was horrible! The only thing that worked for me is when they removed some fill. I had no problem with food going down either. I was very worried about gaining weight so I put it off for to long. If I would have known what I know now I would have done it sooner. I had some removed, then 6 weeks later they put back in exactly what they took out, and I never had the problem again. Doctor has no clue to this day why, but it worked. Good Luck!

    Pregnancy and diarrhea

I am 37 weeks pregnant and I had the same issue during my first trimester. I could almost count exactly 4-5 days without a bowl movement and a day of diarrhea following. Just keep on taking your vitamins and I'm sure there is nothing to worry about. You can always ask your OB or surgeon if you're worried about it.

Be Careful What Your Drinking (Calories)

Oh, gosh me too! I just want to shake them by the shoulders and say "WHY?" I think a lot of it is that so many people really don't understand what it is the Band does and how the restriction works. I don't see how you can have something so major done and not find out everything you can about it and have a clear understanding of how it works before hand. When I was looking for a surgeon, I knew that I was going to need someone who would work with me after the surgery, who had a team approach with a Nutritionist and Counselor/Life Coach. The surgery is just a small part of being a bandster. It's the aftercare - and not just talking about fills here - that I think can make the difference between success and failure. (lol Listen to me talking like an old-timer, and I'm not even at 3 weeks Banded yet )

    Staying regular

probiotics were not for me...I ended up with dry-mouth etc...but I just use Miralax a few times a week and that works fine for me... good luck

    Frustrated!

I have gone through all requirements and the Doctor has changed his status with my insurance. He is now out of coverage. So he a week before surgery I'm left trying to find an in coverage Doctor that will take me. Very frustrating!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Who is this person???

Thank you for sharing readysetgo! I am 38 as well and am getting SO excited about being banded 1st week in December! I know the beginning will take some time to adjust but after I know it will be amazing to finally reveal the thinner healthier me that I know has been inside me ALL along. I weigh 246 lbs and would love to be back in onederland! it's always been a struggle staying there... But from all the posts I really think the band will be the long term tool I need to get there and most importantly stay there! Can't imagine how great it will feel to weigh 175 (or less hehe) I know my joints and knees and feet and back oh yeahhh and my heart..will thank me!!! Keep on keeping on!!
  11. Since having lap band surgery about 6 weeks ago, I've noticed that if I drink my Protein shakes or tea or really anything, I have to burp but it sometimes comes out like a MAN BURP! Seriously!! LOL!! I don't think I've EVER had this type of burping before and I'm a little scared to be around people after I eat because I might sound like a big, hairy old man! OK - it's a little funny but please tell me this is not completely just a ME thing! Mary P.S. Where ELSE could I pose a question like this other than HERE!!!
  12. My first appointment with the surgeon was October 17, 2011 and she told me she wanted me to lose 20 lbs. by January. I started my new way of eating on October 18 and never looked back. I had lost 40+ lbs by the appointment two weeks prior to my surgery date (3/21/12) so she said I didn't need to do the two week liquid diet prior to surgery. She said I did not need to lose more weight but not to gain any weight. I turned out being 50 lbs down on the day of surgery. I know that my surgeon truly takes each individual's situation into account and no two of us had the same dietary prescription prior to surgery.

    No Post-Op Special Diet!

The reason why so many doctors say liquids, thick liquids, soft foods the regular foods because the stomach is new and is prone to leaks until healed. I would be scared as hell if my doctor said that you could go on regular foods after day 3. Are you sure you are having the vertical sleeve? If you are the best chances of getting a leak are within the first 4 weeks. There isn't any way I will be putting any food solids into my sleeve until after 5 weeks of surgery..You might want to double check with them and make sure they are giving you the guidelines for the sleeve. I am so glad that I have the restrictions like I do. i really dont' want to borrow any problems..
  14. Hi My op date was October 19th 2012 ...@227... I have lost 20 pounds the third week in. Next weigh in about four weeks. Still a lil tired.
  15. My surgeon said in one of his presentations that at least once a week or so someone bursts into tears after surgery and says they've done a horrible thing and they regret it. He says these same folks usually do just fine and within a few months they're happy with their choice.....but YES, it's an emotional time:) Don't feel bad if you find yourself double and triple guessing yourself and wondering if you did the right thing....it's very very common.
  16. I had sleeve surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago. I’ve been back on birth control for about five days. I’m getting terrible cramping in my lower abdomen. It could be gas but it feels more like menstrual cramps. Anyone experience this and does anyone have a remedy. I’m really doubled over at some points. Hurts so much that I’m sweating
  17. Honestly, I'd contact your surgeon's office. It's one thing to have reflux, and quite another to feel sick when you swallow. And vomiting when you hadn't before is also a new symptom that shouldn't be ignored. Did this start after you saw him for your three-month followup?

    Calories = Money

I have noticed a new way that I look at calories. I equate them to money. Before the band, I had a vague idea about needing to eat around 2000 calories a day to maintain my weight but I never really counted them, it was like a checkbook with an unlimited supply of money. Now when I get up in the morning I think about how I have 1200 calories in my "account". If I eat (spend) more than that my account gets overdrawn. I can make a deposit by exercising, if I choose to. Or I can just "live within my means" and choose my food wisely. Obviously the band helps tremendously in this with portion control, but I often look at something and decide it just isn't worth the "cost". Just like if I were shopping, I would never buy something without seeing how much it cost, now I would never eat something without seeing how much it "cost" in calories. So here is my food budget, 250-300 for each of my three meals, and 150-200 for my snacks. If I want to spend more, I have to work harder (exercise) and make more. So keeping a journal of my food is similar to keeping a checkbook journal for me, and equally effective.

    unexpected self control..Pep Talk

You have a great attitude, keep it up!!! Seriously, take a picture of yourself front and sideways and look at it a bunch as you go through the next weeks. The other thing we learned at one of the support group meetings? Write two or three reasons why you are losing weight, put them on sticky notes and keep them where you can refer to them (computer screen, refrigerator, car wherever). You will do fantastic! Congratulations on your success already!!
  20. Hello all! I'm in the beginning stages of going through my journey to lap band. I was just curious as to how many of you had to take an h. pylori urea test? I am having difficulty following their NO ANTIBIOTICS for 2 weeks prior because I am frequently on prednisone and antibiotic combinations for a recurring lung infection. How important is this test?
  21. Hello all, I have a few weeks before my final NUT appointment. My boys, ages 7 and 14 have no idea that I plan to do this surgery. My oldest son has watched me struggle for years with my weight, exercising, eating healthy, but I have never made a point to say that I am struggling, or make negative comments about my weight. I want their self images to be positive, and not focus only on a scale. How did you all decide to tell your kids? Your thoughts/experiences are welcomed! Heather

Time from consult to surgery - no insurance

Depends on where you go. Mine was two weeks from phone call to surgery, it would have been one week if I called a little earlier in the day and snagged that last appointment one week earlier.

@@jaimelu I have Blue Cross. I got referred early and they approved me after three months because I had done all the classes and was already diagnosed with sleep apnea. I think Blue Cross is pretty supportive of WLS. They know it lowers future claims for diabetes and other obesity related issues. Glad you got approved! Is your pre-op diet bad? Mine was 2 weeks of nothing but liquids...it was rough but I would do it again!

    I am so emotional-12/5 sleeve

Hi Sweetie!! Oh yes this is normal, absolutely normal! I had multiple meltdowns. lol! I cried so many times I was pretty sure I might dehydrate. lol! I called my surgeon's office so many times I was sure they would kick me out, lol! I was so scared of everything, of drinking too much, of drinking too little, of getting the hiccups, of getting constipated, I called them on everything, I cried several times while talking to the coordinator. I cried at work. lol! The first 6 months are full of tears for some of us. And then there are others who the whole thing is a breeze. *shrugs shoulders* I wasn't that lucky. lol! You are only 6 days in, your tummy is like a newborn baby right now, so tears are totally normal. It took me WEEKS to hit my goals. My doctor's office said just just keep sipping, Sipping sipping sipping. And then walking, slowly walking to work the air out that they blew into your system to do the surgery. The liquid and pureed stages are really rough, so tears are totally normal. Once you get past these stages things get a little easier!!
  25. @@sparksrn, I am in the same exact boat! I am about six week post-op and have never met both goals in one day. So, I don't have the answer but I look at it like this - if I don't stay hydrated I will end up back in the hospital and if I don't get in my Protein the worst that could happen is my hair will fall out :-) Of course I don't want either but I certainly don't want to be back in the hospital.
