    Pre opt diet

I know what you mean! BUT stick to your preop diet to the letter (and even more importantly the first 6 weeks or so of the post op diet)! Don't cheat...it's just for a little while and then you should be able to eat most foods again, you'll just (as you get restriction) be able to eat less. This is the hardest part but hang in there so your liver will shrink and you will have a smooth operation! :tongue_smilie:

    Just Banded 11/12

Hello all. I am new to this site, so I hope I am doing this right. I am getting "banded" next Tuesday, November 20th. I am a nervous wreck!!! I know I have made the right decision, but that doesnt make it any less scary. Anyone getting this done next week? Any words of wisdom?

    Just Banded 11/12

I did drive, when I went out but I probably shouldn't have. I got air in my tire, went to the grocery store and went to the craft store. I thought, the more walking the better. But the bending over to get air in my tire really messed me up for a while. I did no check to see if I was really allowed to, I guess I should have. I am still swollen. I think I still have some gas, and I have not had a bowel movement since last Thursday, so about a week. Yesterday I started releasing some gas. I took two weeks off from work, but I like to keep busy so I am afraid this down time will only encourage me to do more than I should. I really need to rest a lot and do some walking.

    Newbie; start Unjury tomorrow

The rules sure do vary from doctor to doctor... I have to have 4 unflavored unjury mixed with 1 cup juice each day, 2 cups of broth each day. Can drink crystal light, water etc. And also I can have sugar free jello and sugar free popsycles. Thanks goodness I only have to do this for 3 days (I start this on Oct 4).

    Hit a stall

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all stall and most of us experience our first stall about three weeks post-op. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. And, stay off the scale. 8. My knees have hurt on and off for a few years but never anything too too bothersome. But oh my gosh, in the last 3 months they have killed!!!! At first is was like a pressure when I had to bend my knees. But now, it's a dull pain or pressure constantly (like a 2 or a 3 on a pain scale) and sometimes when I sit for a while (20 minutes or more) they are very stiff when I bend them. Also, the pressure is so intense sometimes when I need to bend my knees it feels like they might pop like a balloon (like a 7 or more on a pain scale). Sometimes when im standing or working it feels like they are locking up and maybe I'll fall. I couldn't get in to see my doc so about a month ago I saw an arnp. She told me she thought my knee caps were moving or something. I don't know. It didn't feel right. I am just hoping and praying that this will alleviate itself after my surgery March 12th as my weight drops. Has anyone else had similar knee issues and did they resolve? Lord, I hope so because at this point the pain is getting in the way of everyday life.

    Stalls

My stall ended. I did lose 4 more pounds this week. I strictly diet. Low carb. Low calorie, veggies and some fruit, protein. I put everything in my app. I’m way under the guidelines my surgeon asked, but doing my best to up my calories and carbs. Struggling still with digesting most foods.
  12. Good afternoon ladies!!! Well i went to see my surgeon on Friday and although i hate that he makes his patients wait 20-30 minutes to see him, he was more friendly this time around and seemed to be ope to any questions that i had. his receptionsist is awesoe, she is super nice and asks lots of questions to make sure you are on track and just makes you feel like soeone in the office actually cares. she inquired about the surgery date, wich i told her i did not have yet and hoped to get that day. so far all i knew was January, she immediately said we can do january 17th and that was cool but i said if you have anything earlier i will take that. And what do you know January 4th is wide open. I can definately blow off any liquor on NYE in exchange for getting my surgery! so i left there feeling pretty awesome. she did mention that my insurance company would want me to be seen for 6 months prior to surgery (which is something i dreaded especially since i have seen just about everybody with Aetna on here only having to do 3, but i drilled it in my head that this was a possibility so dont be too upset if it came to this) however she said if i saw the dietition twice instead of once then they tend to approve it with the 3 months, so i will definately see her twice. I was down by the end of the day though because i forgot to get a referal from my PCP to see the dietition today, so i have to reschedule. i also have to make appts to see my pulmonary and cardio dr for clearance letters, so i thought i was little ahead of the game, but not really i still have lots to do. but with a surgery date set i am definately motivated to not drag my feet.

    Howdy!

congrats On Your Surgery George. Glad You Are Doing Well. I Was Banded June 29, 3 Days Post Op And I Am Feeling Pretty Good. Best Of Luck On Your Journey To A Healthier You. Keep Us Posted On Your Progress.
  14. Hi I have had the VST surgery Feb17th and today is my 10 week postop. I started off at 329lbs and as of today I am at 263lbs. But here is what I have noticed. Post op before I went back to work I was losing a pound a day average and sometimes 2. The first day I went back to work everything stopped moving for about 10 days. Why? I thought about this and here is what I came up with. Stress, Water retention, change of environment, and sleep patterns are different. At work is a more controlled environment with high levels of stress. So I started watching for patterns. My diets the same everyday 60-90g Protein, 25-60g carbs, >25g fats. This is clockwork so this isnt the problem. After 10 days the weight started coming off again but now its at a pound every 2-3 days and it stayed this way until I went home. Upon arrival at my home I weighed myself and marked it. Then for 7 straight days there was no loss at all. Then all of a sudden 3 lbs fell off after a nights sleep. I continued to lose a pound every day or two. Before I left to come back to work I noted my weight again. This time it was 269.2. Ok once I get back on my vessel the next morning I lost 2pounds. From that point on there was nothing for another 10 days. After the 10 days I suspect my body adjusts to the changing environment and I lose the water retention, stress calms down and my sleep pattern adjusts to the 12 hour pattern. 12 hours on a boat is actually 8 hours on and off. But to conclude since the 10th day I have lost .5/day bringing me to 263 as of today. So inretrospect I can assume that stress interrupts fat loss.

    Fat Loss And Stress

Stress causes me to lose weight. I lost about 35 lbs when my husband died. (a long time before I was sleeved) I wasn't eating differently. If anything, I was eating more because I turn to sweets in times like that. Recently, around Christmas, I had a big family emergency and I was stressed out for about a month, and I lost 10 lbs. During that time, I went to Disneyland, and ate junk food for a week. Unfortunately, once the problem was resolved, I gained it back. I was not overeating or anything. I just went back to my normal weight.
  16. Well I'm on day 2. The surgery went very well. The Dr also corrected a hernia that I had no idea i had. I felt pretty good yesterday. The incision where the port is placed is swollen today. My dr said I can ice so that is helping a little. Ice has become my new best friend. I love chewing on ice. The cold feels good on my sore throat and it helps to keep me hydrated. As far as gas pain..both sides of my neck hurt. I'm not sure if that is normal. My upper back hurts but the dr said it would because of the hernia repair. Breathing is a little tough. That is also from the hernia. Im using a spirometer to help with that. I'm pretty sore all over. Legs, arms, neck, back and incisions. liquids are going well. I can't really have more than 3-4oz at a time but I feel very satisfied after that amount. With all this being said I am glad the surgery is over. The pain is manageable and completely worth it to me. Congrats to my fellow June bandsters and good luck to those with dates coming up!!

    Weight loss 3 weeks

My doctor filled my to 3 ccs day of surgery
  18. Three shakes aren't enough to promote weight loss. Don't get discouraged! I was complaining about the same thing for weeks then my doc pointed out that because I was consuming so little calories that my body had lowered my metabolism so as not to expend too much energy. Once I started mushy food and upped my calories a little I started losing again, plus I've also started gym so I'm losing more consistently. So don't lose hope it's normal and you will start losing just be patient and follow your dr instructions

    Weight loss 3 weeks

It's common after surgery for the body to go through a healing period which tends to stall out the weight loss. If you are eating or drinking between 1000 to 1200 calories the loss will come.... Just keep doing what you are doing and don't forget to drink lost of water... That alone will help tremendously.
  21. I've struggled with my weight since puberty. When I was younger, I was always in state of weight change - I was either losing or gaining. I never learned how to maintain my weight. I'm in my early 40's now and I have been losing and gaining the same 25 pounds for over 10 years. Like many of you, I have tried so many diets - Weight Watchers, Atkins, Jenny Craig (on which I gained weight), Slimfast. I've tried walking, Pilates videos, gym memberships. The only physical activity that I enjoy is swimming/water aerobics. I can stick to a diet plan, but not to an exercise plan. I have learned so many ways to talk myself out of exercising. In the recent past, I have had the most success with an appetite suppressant which my PCP prescribed. For many good reasons, he will not prescribe it for more than 3 months; nor do I want to be on a dangerous medication. I recently changed jobs and my new health insurance may cover WLS. Since I did well with the diet pills, I think that the Lap Band will be finally be a solution for me. If my physical hunger is under control, I can overcome the mindless eating due to boredom, the emotional eating, and stress induced carb binges. Next week I have a sleep study to confirm a diagnosis of sleep apnea. (My prior health insurance's meager contribution to that test had made it unaffordable.) The morning after the test, my husband and I are attending the WLS surgery seminar at Cleveland Clinic - Florida.

    Stalled!

I didn't lose any weight while I was transitioning into the new food stages. I know it's frustrating because you lost all that weight at the beginning and now you're not, even though you're eating next to nothing still. I went for 2 weeks without losing (or gaining) any weight. So don't worry, it's normal! What actually helped me was eating more calories...I know it sounds counterproductive, but my body goes into starvation mode very easily. If I consistently eat less than 1,000 - 1,200 calories a day, I stall out and don't lose any weight. So make sure you're getting in enough calories and plenty of Protein. You can also increase your exercise routine, or start one if you haven't already. Best of luck to you!

    Stalled!

Definitely make sure you eat your protein. That has happened to me before. I eat almost nothing and then I don't lose weight. But you have to keep in mind the body will go into starvation mode instantly if it's not receiving enough nutrition. So often I eat less than 1200 cal but as long as I get my protein intake I'll still lose the weight. Also every so often I eat something with a little fat in it just to release my leptin. It really just comes to finding a healthy diet with a lot of protein. You're only four weeks in so it may be time for your first fill. When I stalled, I stalled for about three weeks around 240. And then I got my fill and and started losing 2 pounds a week. So don't feel like you're alone in this, we've all been through it. This too shall pass.
  24. I had my surgery Friday and I am back to work today, Monday. I would have liked to have had 1 more day off. But I'm doing great and I feel great. My Dr. wants to see me a week after surgery. I hope that helps
  25. I myself am newly banded 5/7/09 and have not had a fill yet: I am not pregnant but a grandmother. I have had at least 3 patients who were banded and did great in pregnancy. Some gained more than they should have, but so do alot of nonbanded pts. All did great medically. Most had some fluid released from their bands..I hope this is encouraging to all of you.
