    Starting over with the Sleeve

Hello, I am in your same boat x2 I originally had band place in 2005. Then revised in 2014, however it failed me again. Converted to sleeve on 02/18/2019. Hope it goes well for both of us post lap banders.

How’d you Choose? Sleeve v.s. Bypass?

Thought I would post an update! I decided to go with the bypass. In the long run I think I will find the most benefit from the surgery because of its effects on diabetes. I got a call from my surgeons office and my surgery is tentatively scheduled for March 19!

    Intermittent fasting

I would say don't worry about the calories you are doing great, you will see, stay the path! Wouldn't worry about starvation mode, if you go back and look up IF and that subject area, you will see body really doesn't go into starvation mode until 2-3 days... They say that was kind of a myth to go into it so soon, and you are EATING. In reality starving is getting NOTHING with calories, lol... Go 2 weeks as you are and see the weight fall off... I have been doing IF for 5 weeks and weight is falling off, down 15 of the 25 pounds I trying to lose that weight gained back after 3 years post sleeve... Great thing about IF is that you eat whatever you want and as you said you really won't eat much but all cravens for whatever you want are met, even if you only get a few bites of it... It sure beat 10 small meals a day and all other diets, which this really isnt! Loving that I don't snack all day because I'm just drinking coffee and water and know one knows what I'm doing, lol.. Just my 2 cents...[emoji16] Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Sizing drives me crazy too!! My advice is to find a brand of jeans you like and find out what size fits you well and stay with that brand. For me it is Seven7 which I started buying at Lane Bryant in an 18W and can now buy at regular stores or even online in a regular 14 which is a 33 per their size chart. I scored a brand new pair at a thrift shop last week for $10 which is amazing since they generally are $70 to $80. Did not even need to try them on since this brand always fits my body very well. They are good quality and do not look like "mom/old lady" jeans.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Thanks Dub and Britt. Day before yesterday I had the idea of making Tiziki. I had all of the ingredients except for mint (I make a Persian version that requires mint). 2% Fage yogurt, cucumber with no skin, lemon juice, salt, pepper. I put everything in the vita mix blender and blended the heck out of it. It was freaking delicious! 10 seconds after this I was doubled over in pain. So I’ve been scared any vegetables ever since. I may get brave and try a little sip of this. Hopefully things go smoothly! Britt is this the tomato basil soup you tried?

    ❤ FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

A burpee is an AWFUL exercise move that blast the air right out of you! Just to do 5-10 will feel like death! (really good for you) Stand up, arms up, jump down into a plank, do a pushup, jump back up and jump, rinse, and repeat.

    October 2018 Sleevers

I think you all are doing marvelous! I wish I was down 45+ lbs. I had surgery 10/17, and like my Surgery Twin stated it's my own little journey, but I should be down more...only 32lbs since surgery and that fluctuates 😡 My surgeon stated she is good with my progress because slower is better and fewer chances the weight will come back. Her goal was 10lbs a month, I am not terribly off of that goal. I am 5'9 and 278 day of surgery. I believe I am an inch girl due to my height because my pants are extremely loose and tops are trying but I am a 44F so that may take a while, I have not dropped a size yet, really havent tried a smaller size either. I do know I couldn't fit any of my clothes in my closet and now I can....idk, I still want more progress. You guys rock, one day at a time! Side note, is anyone in the DC area looking for a workout partner.

  13. hey guys..... been a long time.  Update:  We are nearing a conclusion on the propery settlement with my ex.... it's been two longggg years.

It will be two years March that my beloved Tina (my band) has been gone.  Not going to lie, keeping the weight off has been HARD... but still chugging along.  Weight is at 155ish.... but I joined Crossfit and my body is becoming more leaner and stronger.  I didn't realize how weak i had become.  I really thought id die doing crossfit.... but i have really started to love it.... I know... but i do.

Two weekends ago... i bought my very first wedding dress.... (picture attached).  I know i was married twice but both were when i was prego... and never had one.  This is the last time, so im doing it right.  We are going to Jekyll Island Club Resort.... Looks like September 2019....

Thursday the 7th we leave for a short mini vaca to San Pedro.... and then the Honeymoon May 15-24 is in Italy.... Venice, Florence and then Rome.  I know we are doing it backwards, the the trip was planned first.

Miss you guys..... if anyone wants to fb me or Instagram or email.....  Christina Callahan Cenac (fb), christinacenac (Instagram) or christina2315dd@yahoo.com (email)

P.S.   Yes the dress still needs adjustments... hehe

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Hi all! New here! Had surgery 12/10/18. Still trying to figure it all out and have an unhealthy obsession with comparing my progress to others :(.
  15. I am now in the 150's.

    159.7 lbs, to be exact.

The 150's has historically been my weight loss nemesis.  In the past 15 years, I've dieted down to the 150's three times only to gain back what I lost and more.  So getting under 150 will be a huge symbolic accomplishment for me, and in my mind solidify that I can get to goal.

Here's looking to lose the next 10-ish pounds!!

  16. The pictures on top were taken today at 193 lbs, I'm 5'9, so it may still seem high but I'm thrilled. Once I get to 175, I'm officially at my goal. I'm sure I have at least 10 lbs of excess skin thatll eventually be removed...but no rush. The pics below were 2 months preop (so around August 2018 and I weighed somewhere near 300lbs). In 6 months , I'm down over 100lbs and feeling fabulous. Struggling with the excess skin on my belly and inner thighs. Any spanx or waist trainer recommendations to conceal the pooch Lol! Hope everyone is happy and would love to see updates on my fellow October sleevers and how everyone is doing in general! Xoxo! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Help! Am I CrAzY?!

I revised from band to bypass on 17/01/19. I have lost 7kg so far and am now back in the healthy weigh range. You don’t have to have a high BMI when you are revising because of complications. Im really happy with my decision so far

    Before Surgery

Congratulations! I'm a newbie myself and my surgery date is March 19. When I went to my dietitian she had me to start my multivitamin now. And she also had me to try out some protein shakes to see which ones I would like. I am so excited right now! I wish you the best in your journey to come.😊

    Help! Am I CrAzY?!

I had lapband in 2012 and had it removed and went to gastric bypass on 2/15/19. I weighed 201 when i had surgery. I personally think it was the right choice for me because I know i would just gain and gain. The bypass forces me to eat healthier. So far I think it was best. But thats my personal opinion.
  20. My surgeon told me to walk an hour a day, or 10,000 steps. Also told us to get a step tracker. We also got a little book to log our food, protein, calories, exercise, fluids - really helpful. I plan what to eat the night before. This gives me an absolute plan that could change a little but I know exactly what I am eating, how many calories, and how much protein I am getting. I also walk my 10,000 steps a day, and climb 10 flights of stairs a day. Your friend needs to use this time to establish new lifestyle changes. If she doesn't, she won't lose the weight or will gain it all back when the appetite returns in the 2nd year, She needs to adopt an attitude of "I'M NEVER GOING BACK!" That kind of determination is what separates those who keep the weight off and those who don't. (Not that this is a totally blanket statement, but research shows that once cheating and compromise begins, weight comes back.) Your friend needs to get moving and embrace the new lifestyle opportunity she has been given. Surgery is not a magic pill - it is only a tool, but we still have to do our part.

    Liquids

I was a daily coffee drinker for a long time. I switched to decaf about a month before surgery, and afterwards, lost my desire for it altogether! Now I enjoy all flavors of herbal tea. Even green tastes sweet to me now - not bitter like before surgery. I drink broth - bone broth has 10 gm protein per cup. The best is a mixture of beef/chicken/turkey. Or I make my own, which tastes a lot better. Sometimes I drink naturally flavored, unsweetened seltzer water. I open it up and let it sit overnight to de-fizz. But my all time favorite is my green water! I have a large vegetable garden, and I am not allowed to eat any of it yet! Bah humbug! My post op instructions said to drink clear liquids that do not have calories or caffeine. So I put lots of my garden greens (kale, spinach, turnip greens, broccoli leaves, bok choy, arugula, etc) in my blender with water. I strain the sloppy mixture and then filter it with a coffee filter. I then have a vitamin rich, tasty (tastes like fresh salad) drink that I sip, add to soup, and add to my smoothies. My doctor about came unglued at my 2 week appt when she saw it - she thought I was cheating. But I pointed out that it was clear with virtually no calories, and a heck of a lot healthier than Crystal Lite, Diet Jello, or anything with artificial sweetener or colors. Besides, it made me much happier psychologically to be using something from my garden. She agreed it was OK. I make up a bottle of it every few days and keep it in the fridge until ready to use.

Anyone get their sleeve February 2019

The bloating is very miserable. I used the infant gas drops and had a tiny amount of milk of magnesia (consult with your doctor first). It took about day 5 post op for me to begin to release the bloat. I walked around my house 10 times and when I able to tolerate protein shakes, that really helped. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

I was given heparin injections before surgery and while in the hospital, but did not get the Lovenox injections for two weeks after, like some of you have related. For any future major operations (and I hope there are not!) it will be something to definitely bring up! I wonder if the fact that I have varicose veins increased by risk. And maybe that I am older - 63? Who knows. Just glad it is resolving. Just got 11,000 steps and 10 flights of stairs in!

    Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

Oh AZhiker, I am so sorry this was your experience post-op! There are already so many other changes and challenges to deal with to heap on more like a DVT. You are trooper and I commend you for forging on. You did and are doing all the right things. My surgeon also sent me home with 14 shots to be administered once daily. I hated them but understood their importance. My husband for whatever reason has a proclivity for DVTs. He is also fit and active. A few years back, I thought I was going to be a young widow. They are scary and we know the drill well. I am so thankful you caught this early. Unfortunately, Xalerto was not effective in preventing his third clot this past summer - So he is back on tired and true Warfarin which never caused him problems. And, yes he eats greens, salads and other good veggies. He monitors his blood with a personal blood test kit every 2-4 weeks. If you are required to be on this medication beyond two weeks, please research and understand your options. I say this out of care, not as an alarmist just incase also understanding every body responds differently. 31 pounds and counting! So happy for you. Do keep me/us posted on your journey! ;] I am 10 weeks out now and 13 pounds to onederland! I have not been under 200 in twenty years. There are still challenges, but I go with the natural ebbs and flow of this process. It requires a determined patience and grace for oneself. In your case, an extra dose of courage, indeed. You would have every reason to feel discouraged. I am at awe. So thankful for this opportunity to re-set and refresh my body back to normalcy. Take good care and be well, AZhiker.
