    Anyone here?

It has been pretty rough. I am just looking forward to a healthy recovery and a period of more than 1 month of not being sick! That would be fantastic. I am frustrated today though because I am still showing an 8 lbs weight gain on the scale, and so bloated in my midsection. I also haven't gone to the bathroom yet...since Wednesday. I cannot imagine that as being good. I am going to the doctor's office tomorrow to meet with the nutritionist, so if the situation does not resolve itself by then I'll let her know. The problem is that I return to work tomorrow...what in the world am I going to wear!!! I have been getting by with sweats for the last few days since those are the only things that are not form fitting, but I might get looked at funny if I show up tomorrow in head to toe fleece. lol wish me luck!

    Steady Losers 4ever!

Steph- if I am filled to a spot where I lose weight I cannot even eat 1/2 cup at a time. You will get used to it. As far as the gas, try some Gas X before bed. Also may need to increase the fiber, which could cause more gas intially but got make sure things are moving thru there well. If you get constipated, it really backs things up I have noticed Update on me- pg is going well, except i have a horrid rash and I am allergic to my own progesterone!!!!!!!!!!!! Unbelieveable! Sometimes it just makes me cry! Oh well onlt 28 more weeks to go! My weight has stayed the same even with my unfill. I thought I had gained a pound but as of this morning I am still at my lowest weight ever! YEAH Made it thru 1st trimester (almost) and no weight gain. So how much do you think I will gain on this cruise coming up in may??? LOL I will probably make up for it there! Jill
  3. The band won't do it's job until you're filled and have restriction. Until then, it's on you. Don't freak over weight gain. Gaining weight doesn't mean you're gaining fat. I gained 6 lbs since lastnight, and ate maybe 800 calories yesterday, but drink over a gallon of fluids. Of course I'm going to weigh more until those fluids work themselves out.

    Coming out of hiding...

I just wanted to add that any weight gain could mean we need a fill, don't you think?
  5. I'm still here

    Anyone here?

Hi Angyl - Ohhhh, I am sorry to hear that the test didn't go well, but I have to tell you - GIRL YOU ROCK!!! I can't imagine even TAKING a test a day or two after surgery. Surely your professor will work with you on it . . . Keep us posted. Any weight gain that shows up on the scale at this point is Fluid, so don't let it worry you one bit. I did the same thing after my TT - I guess it is a lifetime of watching the scale that makes us torture ourselves like that, I don't know, but there is NO way you've gained any in the last few days. And about being able to eat 5 Ritz crackers . . . that (in my opinion) is not too much. Now - understand that there was a time I would have rushed like a crazy woman to my band doctor insisting I needed a fill if I'd been able to eat 5 crackers, but after 2 different episodes of being way tooooo tight, I now understand that it really is okay to be ABLE to eat, moderation really is the key and the band (when properly adjusted) will help you with that. I would say that for at least the first year I had the band I had no concept of how much I really should be eating. I thought if I was physically ABLE to eat, then my little silicone buddy must not be tight enough. In my case, nothing was further from the truth . . . So, without trying to sound like your mother  - don't think just because you can eat 5 crackers that you don't have restriction. I would say give it some time because your band may be in a little bit of shock after your surgery. I chose not to get an un-fill before my TT and have had some very tight days since, but in the long-run, I think it is going to be okay. My thought is, as the swelling goes down, hopefully it will return to my pre-TT state, that was PERFECT for the first time in a year. Have a great Sunday - Happy Easter . . .

    Sex Life

As a guy, my sex drive has gone way way way down....I have gained like 90 lbs the last 4 year. since the last 6 months, i could go without sex for almost 2 weeks. Before that I could go like 3 times a day and almost everyday. I know it has somewhat to do with the weight gain and somewhat witht he pinched nerve in my back. Hopefully these 2 problems will be taken care of after the lapband. Cant wait to get lapbanded. Did any guys have this kind of experience?

    Hi from Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Titus Duncan is a lead surgeon in this field; based in ATL. Teaches other docs around the world. Also, I live in Roswell. We might be neighbors :-) I'm contemplating the LapBand. Have full confidence in Duncan; I'm just worried about the psychological aftermath. I LIKE eating. I LIKE drinking LOTS Of water. But psychologically, I'm now terribly depressed due to recent 40 pound weight gain, and I already needed to lose 40. I'm now 240 pounds. female.single. Not good.
  8. Could you have put some lead weights in your pockets to look like a weight gain????
  9. It might make you feel better to know that I didn't find out I was pregnant until around 4.5 months the last time. During that time I: 1) was on Jenny Craig and getting only 1200 cal. per day 2) drank like a fish for a week when I was on vacation 3) took provera (a hormone) to kick-start my period and my kid turned out fine! :wink2: Also, I was still overweight so my doctor told me to keep my weight gain down and not gain as much as a thin person would during my pregnancy. I didn't count calories at all. I counted RDAs. I had a list of what I had to get in each day -- so many servings of Calcium, so many of Vitamin A veggies, so much of Vitamin C foods, etc. So many servings of Protein, etc. If I got that in, I was happy and didn't worry about how many calories it was. My baby was born 9 lb. 1 oz., too so it's not like she was deprived.

What to do when you can't sleep?

They probably thought you had a helluva night!!! Do you take any other medications that might be causing this as a side effect? They link weight gain and inability to lose weight to lack of sleep, isn't it amazing how many of us have those problems? Mine is nowhere as severe as you speak of---mine is more of a natural time clock being at odds with my schedule!! If I could stay up til 1AM and sleep til 9AM I would not have a problem. Instead I stay up til 1--go to bed, freak out that I have to be up in 4 hours, and then cannot fall asleep--finally falling asleep only to have to be up 2-3 hours later.....repeat....repeat....repeat!!! The few times I have used anything to sleep I used benedryl....not a great long term plan though, I was a space cadet all day following it. Hope you resolve it soon! Kat

    Help!!! I need help, please

Shortgal - I agree 80 pounds is great and the size 10's I'm in now are already smaller than the size 14's I originally hoped for. My biggest problem lies in the fact I'm still sitting at a 10 pound weight gain nearly 6 months after plastic surgery. There is just NO WAY that is all from swelling this far out and even though I shouldnt be focusing on a number on a scale I just can't seem to see my way to being happy with myself unless I can take off those 10 pounds plus at least another 5 pounds to account for some of the 10+ pounds of skin they removed. It also doesn't help much that one day my DH will see me trying to watch my food and comment that he really doesn't want me losing any more then the next day he will see something I'm eating and ask when my next fill is as if he thinks I'm pigging out. I don't really feel there is anything wrong with my current weight being my goal. And I've met plenty of women even heavier that I consider at goal. The problem lies in my recent weight gain and whether or not it is a sign of my falling down an all to familiar slippery slope. I'm just afraid if I allow myself to be too comfortable with this weight it will only lead to my continuing to rationalize even more and more weight gain until I'm back to square one.

    Hypothyroid

Hypothryoid here! The meds are for life. As for weight loss- for me the band has worked well. The little pill slips through my stoma without any problems. Although I have notice my weightloss happens in odd stages. No weight loss for 2 weeks and then whammy I put on my fresh cleaned jeans and they are loss. I hop on the scale and I am down some many pounds. Then nothing for awhile again. It can be frustrating at time- but it is a nice feeling when everything is baggy again. I have learned to put my focus on "no weight gain". Wishing you the best.
  13. Hello Everyone, I was given the address to this forum form a woman on my same hospital floor almost two weeks ago. I have been on the OH boards, they are wonderful, but I thought I'd find some "chat" with bandsters only. My BMI was 30. I had a few co-morbidities, but mainly just wanted to stop the up 40, down 40 pattern of weight gain and loss. After gaining back my last "weight watchers" success, I finally decided I would never diet again, because no matter what, I gain it all back plus more. Enough already! As a lower BMI bandster, I have faced some rolled eyes, but I am okay with that. Noone knows me the way I do and I knew/know that this is the highest level of self-care I can implement. For ten days now, I have stayed within 800 calories per day with 60 grams of Protein. I am trying out all different kinds of protein powders and practicing slow sipping, eating (yogourt). I am down 13 pounds, which I know will plateau very soon. I am walking every other day and already seeing positive changes. My skin is smoother and more "rosey." I sleep better. I am practicing the art of "not trying to get everyone's approaval" for my choices in life. I am so going to benefit from the band!!! Yeehaw! Cindy P.S. My incisions are 90% healed.
  14. What happens is.... once you reach your goal determine if you continue to lose weight/gain, or what. If you determine that you still lose weight you would go to your doc for a slight unfill. Somewhere between .2 and .5cc depending upon many factors. After a while, like 1,2,3, or 4 weeks you reaccess...are you gaining again? If so, go back for that fill. Are you losing still? Go back for a slight untill. Are you maintaining? Then you are done. I've often wondered what happens now. I met goal and had an unfill in January of the .3cc. I'm maintaining. I see the scales go up a few pounds but they tend to come right back off without dieting or exercise...just a fluke of sorts. But those extra pounds, like those w/o WLS...tell me to watch what I eat or drink. When I gain a few pounds the first thing I do is watch the soda pop intake. That usually does it for me. Fill Centers USA called to check up on me as they haven't heard from me in 3 months...but all is well. I'll call them when I need them!

    Cant make a decision

I am on my 5th month of my dr supervised diet and I am still on the fence. Somedays I am like wow I want this surgery soo bad, and then the next day I am like what are you crazy! I worry about all the changes in my life too, and the quality of life after the band. I also know at this rate of weight gain, I won't have to worry about quality of life, because I won't have one. Just like everyone said you have to read the posts on this site with an open mind and remember this is not what happens to everyone, but it is good to know all the facts before doing anything. This site is great and you should use it everyday to help you sort out your emotions and doubts. Also keep in mind most people who do make the decision to be banded have thought about or researched it for a while so don't feel rushed to make such a decision. Good luck!
  16. I am so frustrated. Right after surgery I lost about 15 lbs. Now, 15 days post op, I weigh myself and I'm back up 4. I just started mushies so I am having some foods with more sodium, but I'm not hardly eating. How could I have possibly gained weight? Does anyone know the reasoning for this or has this happened to anyone? I'm incredibly discouraged.

    Up 5 Pounds?!?

Thanks, Shawn! 5 pounds of muscle, I wish! LOL! I meant to say that I'd stressed the weights so heavily that I was retaining water-weight to cushion those aching muscles. I have more obsession than umpph lately...I really want to eat what I want to eat, and then over train in the gym, which is my "quasi" trade off, with benefits  You're absolutely right, Wheetsin! But when that weight gain is staring you in the face, it's very hard to be rational. Sigh. Salsa, you crack me up...how funny! I used to do the drive thru, and haven't in so long. My weakness was the filet o fish and the hottest, greasiest fries available! And those 99 cent double cheeseburgers. Just typing it now makes me wanna choke! I think you are right also. 30 lbs. ago my rings were loosening. For a few days here, they wouldn't spin. Yep, t'was Water weight, and it went away by this morning! I did get a small fill, .1cc. I am leary at this high level, but wanted more help from the band as my willpower and choices were starting to slack. If restricted enough, my choices don't include 'bad' ones. Thanks to all for holding me up thru this rough spot!
  18. I have been stressing over the 6 month weight loss program requirement from my insurance and found this explination on the Cigna website. It does make it a little easier to consider why they require it. But I still hope I have already met the requirement! Here is the reference: http://www.cigna.com/customer_care/healthcare_professional/coverage_positions/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_bariatric_surgery.pdf The benefits of a preoperative weight-loss program include all of the following: • identification of those individuals who will be committed to and compliant with the short-term, long-term and lifelong medical management follow-up, behavioral changes, lifestyle changes, and diet and physical exercise regimen required to ensure the long-term success of this surgery • reduction of operative morbidity and surgical risk • improvement in surgical access with weight loss • reduction of the severity of obesity-associated risk factors, such as blood pressure, glucose intolerance, cardiorespiratory function and pulmonary function Access to a multidisciplinary team approach, involving a physician with a special interest in obesity; a dietitian or nutritionist; a psychologist, psychiatrist or licensed mental health care provider interested in behavior modification and eating disorders; and a surgeon with extensive experience in bariatric procedures, is optimal. Realistic expectations about the degree of weight loss, the compromises required by the patient and the positive effect on associated weight-related comorbidities and quality of life should be discussed and contrasted with the potential morbidity and operative mortality of bariatric surgery. With current state-of-the-art bariatric surgery procedures, patients lose an average of 50–60% of excess body weight and have a decrease in BMI of about 10kg/m2 during the first 12–24 postoperative months. Most long-term studies show a tendency for a modest weight gain (5–7 kg) after the initial postoperative years; long-term maintenance of an overall mean weight loss of about 50% of excess body weight can be expected

    reclaiming dreams

For me, I guess I'd say travel. I was an Air Force brat in my younger years. We lived overseas in a few different countries - but I was a child and I couldn't really see the incredibly opportunities I had. As an adult, I'd love to travel to the places I once lived and to other places I still want to go. Being overweight, I can't travel comfortably and I am embarassed at the idea of possibly having to have two seats or a seatbelt extension. My best friend and I have planned a trip for next year - we're going to Thailand. I am part Thai and I have not been back there since I was 2 or 3 years old. I cannot wait to go back to my mother's native homeland and experience the exotic side of life. In addition, I really just want to be able to LIVE life. I've been overweight for about 10 years now. I wasn't able to enjoy most of my 20's due to my massive weight gain. I became a recluse and a wallflower. I am *so* ready to live out loud and enjoy life to the fullest. :biggrin2:

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Not to change the subject....I know this friend thing has been discussed b/4 but went through it on the weekend and just kind of set me back. I have been feeling pretty good about my weight lose and can tell in my clothes that there is a big change. Went from a 3X top to 1x and that is not tight on me. I have this friend that at one time (about 5 yrs ago) had a super hot body. She got type 1 diabetes a few years ago and started gaining tremendous amounts of weight. She is a person that always says she does not need friends but she makes the exception for me (I'm her one and only). I have always been sympathetic to her weight gain plight, listening to her complaints and what it has done to her emotionally. I am always right there to encourage her when she goes to weight watchers and complement her when she loses. Well, had not seen her since I started to lose weight in Nov. I have lost 46lbs. I figure if I have gone down a couple of sizes, I must look like I have lost a little. NOTHING out of her mouth and I spend 6 hours with her. I brought up my lap band surgery a couple of times but she didn't bite. Either I don't look like I've dropped a pound or she is being really insensitive and jealous. UGH!!!!!!!!.. Jealousy? or did she plain not notice?

    Up 5 Pounds?!?

Sudden weight gains 99.999999999% of the time are just fluid fluctuations. It's weight gain, not fat gain. And fat's what we really care about, right?
  22. Friends - I am shocked. After a 3 day weekend away with no scale, I climbed on this morning. I have GAINED 3 terrible pounds. Unacceptable. What could have happened? All the healthy grilled fish! All the steamed vegetables and green salads! All the walking! All the vigorous anniversary sex! (I warned you) I suspect sodium. Seriously, in a fit of irritation, I went to the websites of the restaurants we visited over the weekend, intent on looking at the nutritional information. I was sure I would find hidden carbohydrates in their salmon fillets, or fat in their steamed broccoli. To my horror, none of the restaurants even HAD nutritional information posted (shame on them!). However, I did learn that you have to ask if you want them to NOT put butter and seasoned salt on the steamed veggies. I also learned that fish is often grilled in butter unless you request otherwise. Sneaky stuff. I have told myself that the weight gain is a result of Water weight from the increased sodium content of restaurant food. Not sure if this is true, but it makes me feel better. I shall not change my ticker. I shall not get depressed and eat a pint of ice cream I shall not try to do a whole Tae Bo DVD in order to burn off those lbs. I shall drink a lot of water today and hope for better thing during tomorrow's weigh-in.

    unfill or?

I have the exact same problem since my fill a 1 1/2 years ago, my girlfriend does the same thing. I don't do it all the time mainly if I go out in public, since the surgery my nerves are horrible, but I know if I get it unfilled or reversed I will be miserable because of weight gain, so what do you do?!!!!!!!!!! Anniemay
  25. I just went from full liquids to soft food this week and I gained 3 pounds this week. What did I do wrong? Is this normal? Has it happened to anyone else? :confused2:
