  1. Oh yeah. From week 5 I think it was. There was some language in there, now I want to look it up in the lil binder I got from the hospital ... ... awww, that was a welcome revisit to a little book I used a LOT. It actually feels like a hundred years ago now. I forgot how they even have 3 different plans you can choose from for the weeks after surgery to make sure patients find a path through it (looking at you, endless pre-mixed shakes that I hated). And meat starts 14 days after surgery, I was looking forward to that! Anyway, it's just on the plan from Day 21 and forward to satisfy sweet cravings as "a little diet soda". So nothing particular about it. --- I don't drink a ton of it. It's just not that interesting anymore, to be honest. But there's nothing I can't have, and that's kinda important to me because otherwise, we're back to living in black-and-white as so many people battling obesity and eating disorders do.

    You will be fine at 3 weeks out. Nicotine is out of your blood rather quickly. Usually they test for cotinine. It’s out of your blood by the 10th day. I would not smoke or use any nicotine products while healing. You don’t want to hinder that process. I wouldn’t worry. Good luck :)

    Your tummy is still healing & the sensitivity, intolerance to certain foods on certain days will continue for a while. Treat it gently. Eating a little less one day won’t harm. I still have days I can’t eat everything on my plate at a meal or something I eat regularly doesn’t seem to sit as well & I’m almost three years out. This morning I ate left over rolled oats from my breakfast yesterday (added some fresh to get to about my usual portion). It all balances out across the week. If I’m a bit low on my protein today, I’ll have a little more tomorrow. Same with fluids. Listen to your body. It’s a good habit to start now about your eating. You’ll discover your real hunger signals, your I’ve had enough signals, what you need versus what you want, etc. All the best.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    Hello everyone! Happy to see that you are doing well! My surgery was on November 24, I lost 57 lb, which is 70% of my weight loss goal. Felling great, no issues at all. I had couple stalls, the last one was almost three weeks long. Last week I noticed that I can eat bigger portions of solid foods without feeling restrictions. Do you guys feel less restrictions too? How much of solid food can you eat at once, like one cup or less?

    Anyone have a blood test for the nicotine clearance? I have never heard of it. I’m nervous since I socially smoked 3 weeks ago. I was a smoker when I started this process and I wasn’t a heavy smoker anyhow. has anyone ran into issues 3 weeks or less getting a negative result?

    Squatty Potty did it!

    So happy to report I finally got some Bowel relief. The Colace, Miralax, and fluids were definitely a factor but what really made it come along was using my squatty potty. I forgot I had one because pre surgery it wasn’t that helpful but I guess post surgery it will be now. Lol 😂 💩 I never thought I would get so excited about a BM I was always regular.     6 weeks out and am happy as a clam I did this. Down almost 50lbs. 4 weeks post op was a huge goal of being able to eat fish. The shakes soups and yogurts were starting to get to me. Now 6 weeks out I’m still not hungry and eat 3-5 is of solid food chix, fish, chopped meat Turkey , sausage, beef!!!shrimp is actually the easiest for me. So good luck and follow your plan. Also walking and weights 5-6x a week.
  10. Didn't know what CFA was but...I can do this Classic lemonade using three simple ingredients: real lemon juice—not from concentrate, Splenda® No Calorie Sweetener, and water. I'll order some splenda.

    What do you do when you get sick?

    I am 8 weeks post op and I get nauseous almost every day. Don't worry there are a bunch of meds that the doctor can prescribe you. Don't want to take meds? That's fine, but that queasy feeling is a stressor on you. Get them, and keep them handy. Otherwise? For me it was cheese crackers. One at a time very slowly...it may have been the salt in them.

    May Surgeries - check in!

    I'm down about 80lbs. I've been stuck since the end of December though and I'd really like to lose another 20. Especially because I'd really like to try for another child in a few months so I'd like to get to my lowest before I risk gaining any with pregnancy. I finally made an appointment with my dietician for later this week so maybe he can help me get things moving again. I'm working on exercising more but with that comes an increased appetite so it's a hard balance.

  14. Hey Yall Im new But i Just recieved my Surgery Date to! April 18th i am having the Gastric Bypass anyone else? Nervous is an understatement not sure how im going to do the liquid diet 2 weeks but im gonna try!
  15. So first day back to work after 6 weeks off from the sleeve surgery and maybe 1/2 way through my tour I had to drive myself to the ER. Had excruciating pain on left side of my lower back to me lower stomach. I haven’t had 1 issue in last 6 weeks and I have been working out and walking 6 days a week. I even told the Surgeon on Thursday that I felt 2 more weeks would have better for me to return to work since I just started eating real solids. Anyway waiting on a few tests but everyone thinks it could be a kidney stone. So I have that going for me!!!! I’ll keep you posted!!!

  17. Tomorrow I will be three weeks out from bypass surgery. For the past six days my surgeon's diet program has had me eating soft, moist proteins, with a target of eventually getting to 3oz per meal before adding in non-starchy vegetables. I'm really surprised at how sensitive my stomach is to food capacity. Sometimes I can eat 2.5 to 2.75 ounces of food and feel fine. The next day the same amount makes me feel awful as though I ate a pound of food. It's really something how sensitive my new stomach is as it heals and how even 1/4 ounce of extra food can create all kinds of discomfort.
  18. HI! I'm a 46 year old female from South Louisiana. I will be having gastric sleeve on 3/16/22. I'm currently 5'3", 245lbs and my goal weight is 145lbs. (if i lose more, that's a bonus but i felt 145 was a realistic goal.) I am insulin resistant with HBP. Thyroid disease runs rampant on both sides of my family, as does diabetes. I'm borderline Type 2 and my TSH levels are also borderline. I've tried for years to lose weight through diet and exercise. I think i tried every fad diet out there. While i would lose weight initially, the minute i was left to my own resources, the weight just piled back on. Exercise was a whole different issue that my PCP just couldn't understand. It didn't matter what i was doing or where i was doing it, after 15 minutes i began to overheat and 2x had to be taken for medical attention. (one of those times was doing nothing more than walking in my neighborhood.) My PCP always said it was my BP causing that and if I would just lose weight, it would stop. Well doc, how do you propose i do that if i can't exercise without passing out? When my employer finally started covering bariatric surgery, if certain comorbidities were met, i jumped at the chance. That is when i found out i was insulin resistant. I'm about to hit the clear liquid stage of my pre-op diet and am very stressed. Yesterday I had issues with nausea and vomiting every time i tried to drink a protein shake or protein water. I just couldn't get it down. I hear that is normal the 1st 48-72 hours of the liquid diet but yesterday was day 5. (i was able to find the Fairlife portien shakes and those didn't make me gag.) I'm really nervous about the clear diet. Any suggestion on clear protein drinks that taste good and won't make me gag? (I have tried the Gatorade g2 in fruit punch and the blue one. The blue was one the only one that didn't make me gag as much. I also have tried the Protein2O and those were just awful as well.) I have found some good broths that i will try and i have the Isopure unflavored protein powder. I tried adding the powder to warm broth and that was a disaster. Thanks in advance for the tips. I'm excite to start this new phase in my life and get healthy, not only for me but for my husband and kids. I beat cancer, i can't let obesity be the thing that kills me.

    Update please! @Lela Clark You are going to find out what works for you. Both of them are right in some ways, and not in others. You'll find your groove. I suggest journaling or at the very least keeping a real food diary so when you stall (and you will, it's just natural) you can go back and reflect on what worked well and what didn't. My nutritionist says 3 meals and 2 snacks (a shake included as a snack or meal), 1000-1200 calories, 60-80 gm protein (doc told me go to 100), and less than 100 carbs. It's working pretty well for me (when I follow it!).
  20. Mine was 3 shakes a day for 10 days before. Then my surgery was delayed so it turned into 19 days. Then it was meant to be 2 shakes a day for ten days after surgery. Which I couldn't do. I literally began to gag on them. The reality is, you don't need to have the shakes if: you make something to drink that's just as thin and smooth and preferably with protein (although the short term protein requirements are overblown, a week with sub-optimal protein does nothing and no you don't lose muscle either). So you could blend Greek yoghurt with water, protein powder and skinless cooked pears for example. Just make sure it's as thin and smooth as a shake and you'll be fine.
  21. Last week I had breast reduction and panniculectomy surgery, which all seems to have gone well. However… I was a 42H and my surgeon promised me a DD cup. I know that I can’t really see where I’m going to end up because it’s so soon, but I look like a B or C cup, and I think it looks ridiculous on my still heavy figure. (My daughter took one look and joked that I’ll need implants!) I have hated my breasts since the day they grew in looking down at my feet, and I was SO excited to have breasts I would finally feel good about. I primarily did it because of neck and back pain, but I just can’t believe how bad I look. Added to that, now that the belly is gone my thighs look hideously misshapen. They’re floppy. I’m just so depressed. I’m trying hard to not complain to others and to also accept what can’t be changed. But I just had to share with someone. I’m never going to look “normal.”

They are designed to increase blood flow throughout your body and warm up your muscles prior to any weight training. These exercises are not hard, but rather intended to get your blood flowing through your system, loosen up your joints and prepare your muscles for the upcoming workout. You can perform these exercises before or after your workout.

    I am approaching a year out and I suggest that you don't buy a lot of anything. It's a bad habit I got myself into. Yes, you want to be prepared, but I am exiting a two month stall because of my newly formed addiction to Quest products (damn, they're awesome!). Instead, I recommend you learn to menu plan and gain a dependency on fresh foods, not pre-packaged items if that is at all possible. Lean meat, fish, and veggies are the way to win, not relying on packaged, processed food. Like others have said above, your tastes will likely change, or you stomach will. On my pre-op diet I looked forward to my chocolate Fairlife shake. Now they taste awful to me and cause unbelievable gas.

    What do you do when you get sick?

    I am almost 4 years out. I still get nauseous about 5 times a week. I buy Meclizine by the bottle on Amazon. When the nausea is really bad I just take a couple of sips of ginger ale. I buy the 6 pack of small bottles so we can keep the rest for the next time. This is really weird but I have also found the eating a spoonful of raw oatmeal settles my stomach. There have been a few time that I have actually thrown up but that was because I ate something I shouldn’t have.
