    💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰⏰ 🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔 *TMI TIME YAY* 🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔 For my revision surgery, my BF pretty much stayed with me non stop to help me recover. Prior to that I cleaned my refrigerator thoroughly. It was completely orderly. Because I wasn't always cooking he usually ordered out and my refrigerator was wrecked/stuff to the gills with things no one would have eaten for leftovers. B-Side Questions: How often do you clean out your refrigerator/pantry? Anyone in particular that ruins it?

    May bypass

Hello everyone. I’m so glad to see this forum. I’m planning a revision to the mini bypass as well. I was originally sleeved in 2013. As with everyone else, I’m plagued with heartburn and weight gain. I’m planning to self pay and return to my original surgeon. I’m hoping to have my surgery sometime this summer.

    May bypass

I am scheduled for sleeve revision to bypass May 2nd. Who else is having surgery and would like to support each other?
  4. So, back in 2006 I had a band put in....I did pretty well, went from 235 to my lowest was about 148, but I was throwing up a lot. Last year I started just not being able to tolerate the constant throwing up, etc, anymore and back in Feb. they had to take all the Fluid out of my band because I could not keep anything down...AGAIN.....Of course my weight has been up over this past year with my struggles. I'm at about 170 right now. I guess I just wonder if I was puking my guts up nearly every day, and weighed 160ish, how in the world is the sleeve going to work for me if it's so 'much more comfortable' than the band. I'm scheduled for surgery with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico at the OCC July 7th and start my liquid diet June 16th. I'm scared but optimistic too from reading these posts. Even if I just could maintain at about 160ish I'd be content, I just don't want to gain it all back, you know? I just hope and pray that this is the tool I need and that it's not a bust, especially since I am so financially and emotionally invested.
  5. Hello, I am having revision to sleeve 28 December. I am ready because my lapband slipped last year and stopped working. Also the closer it gets, I am eating more even though I run and cycle. My current weight is 210, I have the working out part down, just need and want to lose weight so I can feel better about myself and be lighter on feet and on bike. Want to look better for a 51 year man. I want to run the New York Marathon next year. Good luck to everybody.

    Plastics in Mexico

I am about 7 weeks out from having a lower body lift and a medial thigh lift in Tijuana Mexico. I flew to San Diego and was picked up at the airport and then a week later I was taken back for my flight home. I went to Dr. Victor Gutierrez. who not only is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon but he also has a specialty in Micro-Surgery so his incisions and sewing are the best I have seen anywhere. I spent a whole year going to 10 consults with surgeons in Beverly Hills and LA even talking to a well known surgeon deep in Mexico. But was not happy with the results or the prices. Results of course were the main thing, but a couple that I really liked as in the case of the BH, PS were $40,000 so that knocked that one right out the window. Then I saw some of Dr. Gutierrez's patients reviews on another site and checked out his clinic. I found out he was trained in Israel where the standards are some of the highest in the world and also that he is a micro-surgeon so I started reaching out to his previous patients and really liked what I heard, so I took a leap of faith and went with him and I am so pleased. The year before I went to another TJ clinic, it was a big fancy clinic with white marble and glass, and it turns out 2 of the three procedures that were done need to be revised so I was a little gun shy of going back to TJ, but now I am so happy I did. Dr Gutierrez will also be doing the revisions that I need in the future...
  8. Hey everybody!!! I hope you are all having a fantastic day! I am about 1 1/2 weeks out form surgery (surg date 1/7/16) and yesterday I started to get this weird feeling in my stomach. I am a lap band to sleeve revision and did not have alot of pain. Most of my pain is the incisions. This feeling is hard to describe but it is a combination of tingling at the base of my esophagus and light pulling in my chest/upper stomach. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if I should contact my surgeon or not. I have stuck to my post op diet and have not eaten anything I shouldn't. Should I be concerned?
  9. I had a revision on May 17 2016, also from band to sleeve. I can drink fluids but I have to do it slow (like a turtle), so I'm doing it every hr almost, to get fluids in. Can you try that method.? We both are only 5 days postop, and everyone says it will take time. Hope you feel better!
  10. I had a band to sleeve revision May 17, following a second hiatal hernia (first hernia repair Dec. 2015). When I consume liquids, I can feel the liquids hit my stomach, which results in pain that is nearly intolerable, even with pain meds. Has anyone else experienced this? And, if so, how long did it last? History: Band installed May 2003 - gained 25 lb Diagnosed port leak June 2005 Port replacement 2005 - lost 160 lb Band drained for pregnancy - gained 90 lb Port replacement 2010 - lost 60 lb Band drained for pregnancy - gained 50 lb Sept 2012 - Feb 2015 - lost 50 lb Band drained Sept 2015 due to massive reflux Dec 2015 diagnosed with hiatal hernia & repaired same month Band filled March 2016 Bad hiccup April 2016 - confirmed hiatal hernia

    2nd Band and failing again...

I too had to have my band replaced with another and they gave me a 14cc band. (after having a 4 cc band) The explanation they gave me was that on revisions they always used the largest bands because of the possibility of scar tissue. It look a lot of time and a lot of fluid to fill that band! I gained back 30 pounds while I waited for restriction... It sounds like you are not to the sweet spot yet. Is there any way you could find a more agreeable doc? Would he even be willing to do a fluroscope to check to see if you have any problems? (although problems are usually caused by being too tight, and if doesn't sound like you are) If he won't check you, I'd find a new doc, even if it meant traveling. Your health is important. The guy sounds like more of an ass then most surgeons. (mine is a sweetheart, I'm lucky. If you are around Ohio let me know) Don't be so down on yourself. It sounds as if you had a complication, yes, but it was out of your control. Now you can step up and find out what is going on. If you have another slip, it's not your fault because you haven't been throwing everything up (that's what causes slips). Just find out the facts and go on from there. Please keep me posted. I wish you the best and I hope there is nothing wrong and all you need is a little fill to go on your merry way to weight loss. If there is something wrong, there will be a way around it. Good luck,
  12. Hi all. Just curious and wondered if anyone had similar experience that could offer input. I have Anthem BC/BS Ohio. I have a leak and surgeon wants to do a port replacement. Insurance said they needed a letter of medical necessity and that was sent last week. Anyone have the same situation and if so, how long did it take to get approval. According to Anthem's website and the rep I spoke with, this is covered under my plan. Thanks for the input!
  13. Crazy days, indeed! I never thought it would happen to me as my first surgeon told me that slips were rare. My current surgeon showed me the xray, the band is now parallel to my spine. Whoops. Well, the good news is that an endoscopy showed my esophagus is in good shape and in two days I'm having a revision surgery. While the good dr is in there, he's going to put in the updated band which is supposedly is better for fills and tweaking amounts. I never had more than 1 cc in my old band and that was way too tight. Totally looking forward to having the new band. I really hope that things improve. Living with a slipped band isn't fun. Overall, I don't regret getting the band. I'm still 65 lbs down and that's really something.
  14. Coming to a VSG board, you're probably not going to get many unbiased answers. With that being said, see below in blue. Obviously this needs to be 100% your decision, but knowing what I know now, if I were paying out of pocket, I would go with the VSG or DS. I would not self-pay for a lap-band. I have 0% confidence in its integrity as a long-term solution. If it had worked the way it was marketed it could've been the perfect solution, but people just don't seem to be able to keep it in, and functioning properly, for very long. If I'd self-paid for my band, I'd be pissed. My complication was considered a "mechanical failure" and the different band manufacturers do nothing. I'm amazed it's still as sought out as it is. BTW, having had both is called a "revision" (one proedure revised to another). There's an entire forum here for band -> sleeve revisions. Check it out if you want a comparison. But to be fair, also check out www.lapbandtalk.com. There's a complications forum there, you can see what's going on.
  15. Hey Johnathan One of the reasons I was against the band was because it would need adjustments for LIFE! Some surgeons charge per adjustment. To me that seemed like a lot of money! Plus, considering these things are supposed to be for life, they have an awful lot of revision surgery's! I know the sleeve may seem scary, since it removes so much of your stomach. But it calmed me to know that people live very healthy lives after having complete gastrectomys for other reasons (cancers, ulcers, trauma, etc). Plus, with this surgery our stomach still behaves the same way and the way the food enters and exits is the same! It is simply smaller. Yes, there is a small chance of leak, but there are less worries long term then the band. Good luck with your decision! Also, since we are so biased over here (in the best way of course!) you should check out the "lapbandtalk" website as well to get some other opinions as well

    UK Sleevers

Hi Jane, I'm having my sleeve surgery on July 13th. I am having revision surgery from a slipped band...Just a few questions which i haven't been able to find the answers to so far - How long does the surgery take? I will probably be having open surgery as I only had an operation last year but I guess the operation duration will be similar to laparoscopic won't it? What sort of pain can I expect (don't worry about telling me it all!) and will I be on my feet straight afterwards? Were you tested for leakage in any way before you left hospital? I could do with a step-by-step guide of everything to expect including my diet afterwards etc.! Many thanks for you help and hope you are doing well. Helenxxx
  17. I had my final meeting with the surgeon today. My surgery date (removing lapband and revising to sleeve) on July 19th. My doctor said that there will be a drain tube in place and should be removed right before I am discharged. Has anyone had a drain tube immediately after surgery??? If you did was it to prevent the port incision site problems everyone is discussing???? Had my band since 10/2009 and my port flipped and band slipped. I opted to have it removed and revised to the sleeve instead of repairing the band.

    Re-sleeved

I'm not sure re-sleeved is actually a thing. I've never heard of it. I've heard of having your sleeve revised to an RNY, but not a re-sleeve as in taking your existing sleeve and making it smaller. I honestly can't see that the benefit from that would outweigh the risks involved in the surgery. The original surgeon already cut out what s/he considered the disposable portion of the stomach.

    Yaaaaaaay vsg!

I have lost 54 lbs since my lap band a year ago and revision 3 months ago, it doesnt seem like alot for a year but I equate that to (5) 10 lb bags of potatoes + almost a 5 lb bag. I cant even imagine carrying that around all day long every day. No wonder it was much easier to climb the steps at the theatre last weekend. I am not losing as much as some people after the VSG (only 27 lbs at almost 3 months) but its not a gain and its so gradual, I dont have to come up with an excuse for all the weight loss since no one at work knows about the WLS.

    100+ To Loose

That's great that your hubby is so supportive! It truly is nice to have your best friend helping you along, that I know. My husband isn't banded nor has he had WLS but, he does need to lose weight and when I'm ON he's ON, if you know what I mean. He does better managing his eating when I'm managing mine. When I got my lapband he actually lost about 30 pounds just eating less because instead of two steaks, we cooked one with me taking a piece so he was eating less. Worked! Now you know for sure....to make sure your husband gets that upper GI. I should have demanded mine sooner than I did. I never should have actually had the revision surgery but, of course back then no one told me that so many bandsters that had to have revision ended up losing it in the end. Oh wellsky! Are you talking about the OTHER lapband group that formed after so much trouble was on the LBTTalk website or the Obesity dot com one? I don't care for the format on OB at all...they don't have catagories like this one. I think Alex and his crew (assuming he has one) have done an awesome job organizing these sites for sure. It's makes it easier to navigate. I do hope more will come but, it's fun chatting with you I can't remember my name on the LBT site it's been a while since I've been there. I was a moderator there but, mainly I answered any of the "new" posts because I never did learn how to put strikes on a members account or block them. Working full time plus made that hard but, I felt I was contributing by helping the newbies with their questions and welcoming them I truly appreciate your offer to help with questions. I'll be taking you up on that for sure! When is your next appointment?
  21. Posting for those who would like to participate in research on weight loss surgery. I found this on another site and I thought it would be good if they got some input from here as well. A research study is being conducted through the department of Psychology and Counseling of Georgian Court University, Lakewood, NJ, on quality of life (QOL) outcomes in long-term post-operative bariatric surgery patients. If you have been living with an adjustable gastric band (such as LAP Band or Realize Band, RNY gastric bypass, gastric sleeve or duodenal switch for at least two years, please take the survey athttps://www.surveymo...quality-of-life . If your current surgery was a revision, you're also welcome to participate as long as your revision was at least two years ago. Your responses will be treated with strict confidentiality, and you will have an opportunity to sign up to receive a copy of the results after you have completed the survey. If you would like more information about the study, you may email the chairperson of the department of Psychology and Counseling, Susan E. O. Field, Ph. D., at fields@georgian.edu or by phone at (732) 987-2643. If you have any questions or concerns regarding confidentiality, ethics, or the nature of this study, please contact the chairperson of the Institutional Research Review Board, Cheryl Resnick-Cortes, D.S.W., at resnickc@georgian.edu or by phone at (732) 987-2366. Thank you in advance for your participation!
  22. Jill, No one can tell you what to do... not me & not your friend. I can tell you that I was certain that this would work for everyone but me... in fact, I felt sure that I would probably die during surgery. In the end, I decided that I would rather take the risk of death or yet another failure than to keep my life in the miserable state that it was. I have been amazed at how well this surgery has worked for me. In the beginning, you will be pretty restricted as to what you can eat... but after about 4-6 months out, there is nothing that I can eat... in small portions. I feel better now than I ever have in my adult life. I can't tell you what to do & maybe you should talk to some people who have revised from lapband (Miss Diva comes to mind). But if you are genuinely that unhappy with yourself, what are you really risking? If the surgery doesn't work for you, then you are no worse off than you were before. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck with your decision!
  23. and if so, any problems getting coverage for revisions/removals? i assume if blocked under pre-existing condition, this should not be a factor once obamacare kicks in? thoughts?

    please help

The band can cause acid reflux and esophageal erosion and I have never heard of it preventing it. I am one of the people who got the band and suffered from horrible reflux to the point of only being able to sleep in a chair. I also had an intolerance to a lot of foods. I agree that it's important for people to research all forms of weight loss. For restriction, there's the band and the sleeve. For those who need restriction and malabsorption, there's RNY and DS. I revised to VSG three and half months ago, have lost over 40 pounds, and knew right away THAT was the surgery I should have had originally. I would have loved for the band to work for me but it turned out to be toxic and severely restricted my life for the worse. I have 2 friends who did great with the band and continue to do so. It's about finding the right "fit" for the right person.
  25. My dr here told me he would put in a feeding tube after revision to help reduce the risk of a leak. So for 2-3 weeks after surgery there would be nothing by mouth until healed. this sounds like a good idea, has anyone every done this. Also, I still cant afford my dr so have researched all Mexico drs, but have never asked them about feeding tubes bc I had never heard anyone doing this. does anyone know if mexican drs will put in a feeding tube to help with the risk.. Also, I didnt know there were differenct kinds of feeding tubes. I assumed it would be insertd directly into stomack (never thought about how it is removed) but then I saw the news where brides are having feeding tubes up their nose to lose weight, so now im wondering what kind of feeding tube it would be. does anyone know anything about all this. Im still terrified of a revision, I dont want to be financially devistated if something should go wrong.
