  1. Hi Ladies...I have a question for you... I have been banded for almost 10 months now and have only lost about 40lbs. That comes out to about 1 lb a week. A WHOPPING ONE POUND A WEEK! No matter how hard I try. I was wondering if it had anything to do with my birth control. I have the Mirena IUD. Have any of you ladies experienced trouble losing weight because of your birth control? I'm considering getting it removed to see if I lose more weight.

    6 months after surger

Heba, Welcome! This is a great place for support. Some of us here are just slower than others but the weight will come off. Just keep it up. It is hard but just think how much healthier you are now for your little girl! I bet she is beautiful! Good luck and feel free to ask any questions you may have. Are you doing a high Protein diet?
  3. It is a gastric roller coaster, indeed. You had me laughing like hell at that description, man. Accurate and funny. Could be either. I remember my pre-op diet very well. It was calorie deficit and also put me into ketosis after about 4-5 days. It was no surprise, as I'd been there-done-that during my many weight loss attempts in the past. I was comforted with the knowledge that the feeling puny only lasts a day or two if you'll stay the course and get through it. If you cave in and have carbs, then, you'll simply prolong the struggle and keep on feeling like hell. Stay the course and gut it out. You'll get used to the ketosis quickly and your body will adapt. You'll amplify the weight loss, most likely, too. Enjoy feeling those pounds drop off and know that you are underway. Your ship is sailing already.....plotting a course to a sunny beach somewhere where you'll enjoy strutting around nekkid.....or closer to it than you've dared think about. The magic is already happening. Go with it.

    Next Step

Well, I'm definitely within that 3rd week stall. I'm trying to focus on the fact that there's no way to maintain the weight I have, with the food I'm taking in. Sent from my Nexus 6P using the BariatricPal App

    Who Here Is On Twitter?

Hi everyone: I think there must be only ONE other person who's undergone WLS and is a fellow Tweeter (That stands for user of the Twitter.com website BTW) and he's a Lap Bander. Just to be in the balpark of people on Twitter who've undergone weight loss, I've had to settle for people who've done so WITHOUT undergoing WLS. So this begs the question WHERE FOR ART THOU FELLOW WLSers??? Where (Not to mention WHY) are you hiding from Twitter? Twitter is a GREAT way to communicate. It's also a GREAT tool for announcing meetings and other activities too. Don't have an account yet? CHECK IT OUT - twitter.com (I don't work for Twitter nor do I have ANYTHING to gain (Except some fellow WLS followers of course ) or lose from posting this, so this isn't a spam attempt (If it were, it'd be a terrible one at that) so GO CHECK IT OUT!!) You can also see MY Twitter page in my sig below or the link to it on my blog page also in my sig below. See ya on Twitter! Cheers

    Another fun thing

Hey BillOh. If you go and say you lost it, you can get a new one. You will have to pay a nominal fee for it, but it might be worth it to put your new fabulous weight on it.LOL

    Quick Question...

Don't be discouraged--we just have to be patint. I had my surgery Oct 2nd and I also started at about the same weight (223). I am now at 199. I lost the first 18 lbs during the first 2 weeks post op and then things just slooowed down to where I was afraid I'd never be able to reach my goal. At one point I even gained a lb - very discouraging seeing how I followed all the rules exactly as was told to do. I won't give up--I get on this forum daily and see where others have had this type of slow weight but eventually reach their goal! This gives hope and courage to keep on track. Today I finally lost a lb after over a week of being the same--hooray! Don't give up, have faith and you'll get there.

    Lab Band & Birth Control

I have the same IUD and I haven't had any trouble losing weight. Surgery date: 1/25/10
  9. Since October 11th, I've only lost 5 pounds....is this normal? I'm nearing 4 months and see that 6 months honeymoon stage getting closer. I thought I'd have lost more by now. To date, I'm down 32 pounds. Am I going to have a greater weight loss? I started at 224 lbs.

    Psych Eval

The first time I went for my psych eval, the therapist was a wackadoodle and talked about Chinese medicinal weight loss for a long time then told me my hour was up and and that I would have to come back for a second appointment. I was so frustrated to learn that a second visit was totally atypical and was also upset at the money I wasted with this lady. I quickly cancelled my appointment and went to another therapist. True enough, I did have to pay for two separate appointments but I really liked the second therapist, she wrote my letter after one visit, and I didn't have to give another dime (or listen to the crazy rumblings of) the first nut job!!! By the way, she had even told me that I should be lucky she "understood" my time crunch and that's why she thought she could complete my eval in just 2 sessions opposed to the 4 it usually takes. What a load of crap!

    New to all of this

Nubbybuddy ON the pbing - i read last night where someone who doesn't have a fill pd'd eating chicken - reason too fast not chewing so I guess it does happen to people who don't have fills - but since you aren't on reg food you don't need to overly concern yourself. Are you eating heathly request (low fat soups) or regular - are you making them with Water or skim milk (up's your protein) - I think you are fine and you are beings satisfied - which imho is a big deal. the way i look at it is that we are eating so much less than we use to - that we have to lose weight - I just saw the word juice - what kind of jucie??? Not regular - it's full of sugar - you need stuff that has splenda or whatever. You need to make smart choices - low fat - low sugar Nubby it doesn't sound like your dr has given you a lot of info?? Like what kind of diet you should be on or how much protein you are suppose to have (Minimum 60 grms) Do you have any clear liquid Protein drinks. I guess i am lucky my doc sells all this stuff and also gives me sample. Also I was on this board 24/7 prior to surgery and learned so much. Keep reading all the post - go to crazy ates - that's the support group for August banders - you can also ck out Lucky #7's that's my group - read from page one - there is tons of info (even how to get your ticker)- also ck out how's weight for people over 50 - read post by "wasabubblebutt" her writing style is a bit abrasive but she truely is a nice person - but i think she has alot of good info - she's a nurse - her diet is only 600 - 8oo calories but she has some problems with spasams (sp) and need to get weight off quickly. There are tons of people here who have lost `100+ - read those post - Just keep reading and the more info you have - the better you will do. Good Luck and if you need anything - Just ask...

    Psych Eval

I had to see my therapist twice. The first time was mainly introductory while the second was more in depth and he basically "quizzed" me about the surgery to see if I understood the ramifications of it, the mental, physical, and emotional. It wouldn't have been a good idea to lie about being depressed. It'd be like lying to a mechanic about what's wrong with your car. Therapists and doctors are there to help you, so being truthful about your issues is what will benefit you in the long run. I told my therapist about my depression (heck, I even cried right there in his office) and I was approved for surgery. He didn't recommend I see him after surgery, but he does want me to go to some of the support group meetings specifically for weight loss surgery. It has helped.

    Negativity

I really hate the ones that say I have had family that has weight loss procedures done and they really messed up and died because they couldn't control their eating. What the hell!!! You know I have been doing research on this subject for about 6 months. People got to understand that we as people are all not doomed to failure. I am fully aware that If I don't follow rules of pre op and post op especially. I am opening a really big big can of worms. I know that I probably land myself back in the hosptial with a leak or worse.. I just don't get that people just can't be there for support. I talked with my boss and he told me that I should tell everyone at work. I just don't know if I am comfortable with this.. I just don't want to get back from sugery with a million of questions of people asking me if I am sick or dying..I Think I am going to write a letter the day that I leave and tell everyone at my plant so they will all know what is going on.. I have picked my best friends and I am going to tell them personally. They just don't understand that we don't really want their opinions we just want to be heard and understood.. Nothing more!!!
  14. I tried all different types of eating disorders back in the day to loose weight. I've since have never considered the thought of doing it again. I even went to a therapist about it a few years ago. Will this hinder me in my approval process from uhc? I'm wondering if I can use my meetings with my therapist as help for my approval? Or if my past eating disorders will hurt me?
  15. Hi everyone! My surgery date is set for December 9th. I am starting my prop diet on November 25 th. I don't have all of the details on it yet, but know that it will be 800 calories max per day. I am super nervous about this. I was thinking it would be great if I could lose some weight before the prop diet, so that the honeymoon phase of the sleeve could focus on not the first 20 lbs but the second and third 20 . What do you all think? Any recommendations on diet for the next two weeks? I'm meeting with my nutritionist again on the 18th. Thanks!

    I'm hungry!

It's been 10 weeks since my surgery. I've lost a few pounds (I weighed 221.6 at the time of surgery and I weigh 209.2 right now), but I'm eating way too much. I'm also making poor food choices. As a rule, I do fine during the day, but in the evening is when I falter. I had fill #1 on 6/12 (.5). I had to go back 2 weeks later and have .25 cc's removed as I was pb'ing too much. Then my second fill date was 7/9. When I went in I just knew the scales would either show I'd gained (horrors!) or that I hadn't lost anything! Actually, they showed an almost 7 pound loss! I had weighed on my scales at home before I left and typically, they run 4-5 pounds lighter than Dr. Schmitt's do. However, that day they were 6.3 pounds heavier! I even told the nurse I didn't think that was right. So I came home and ordered some new scales. When those came, they read almost identical to my old scales, so I feel certain those at the doc's office are wrong. I don't feel any restriction right now, but hope that changes as the month goes on (which I've read does happen). I'm eating like a horse and making poor food choices, at least at night. My next fill date isn't until August 7th; not soon enough if I don't tighten up! :help:

    Help!!!

Hello Everyone, I would like to see if anyone has advice for me. I had my surgery on April 22, 2008. I lost 15lb before surgery and have only lost a grand total of 26pounds. They never explained to me that i would still be very hungry after i had this surgery. The first week after i was miserable. Ok fine i got over that. I was never able to eat chicken after the surgery ok fine i am over that. i had my first fill 6 weeks after surgery. It did nothing at all. My second and third fill was the same. I still felt hungry all the time:thumbdown: and could eat alot of food. although my choices are better i am still not loosing weight. I just had my fourth fill and i am at 7cc's in a REALIZE band. this fill has been very hard. The list of foods i CAN eat is very limited as aposed to the list of foods i can not eat. I have a hard time with eggs but if i have cereal for breakfast i am starving by 11am. I throw up alot and i dont ever feel full and i am not loosing weight. I have been eating good foods. i had eggs for breakfast, celery and cheese for snack, salad and yogurt for lunch and steak and beets for dinner. still starving. HELP!!! what do i do?

KNOCK! KNOCK! Lady with a Q for the men...

I came here to see your answers, as my best friend is a guy, he said I cheated when I got the band, because he felt I wasn't trying to lose the weight before. Well, the fact that I am down 50+ since surgery has changed his tune. In the time I have lost the 50 he has gained it, and at 398, 6'4" he is starting to feel the stress on his legs and feet. He is flirting with the idea of the band, but he is a man's man type of guy, big meals, out with the guys, etc so is waffling. He can't cut down on what he is eating. How do I get him to see that you guys were able to do it and be successful? Because while he is now applauding my success thus far, he can't imagine eating the small portions I do now and eating healthy.
  19. I'm on the all liquid diet. I'm on antibiotics (I have a history of staph infection with surgeries) I am very anxious about this. I am second guessing myself. I HAVE to lose weight. I weigh 240 and am 5'7". I played college ball and at my most fit I was 160# and skinny. So I would like to lose 80#. I am a very motivated person but after 3 preg. back to back I have put on wt :blushing: I've been reading and doing alot of research. Anyone else have horrible last minute jitters??? How do I mentally get through this?? My sis and mom both have a band so I'm very familiar with everything....just SCARED!!!!!!

Jason, everyone's body will lose the weight at different time frames. Just know that the weight will come off if you follow the directions of your surgeon by eating healthy. Actually, the one great thing you have going for you is that your a man..... Men lose weight at a faster pace than us women...... So sit back and enjoy the ride and please take your weight loss on a day by day basis..... I know your going to rock that sleeve!

    How&Where

i personally needed the support of dh. he has been my support system throughout this whole thing. i think if he were opposed, i would have crashed and burned emotionally. it is joyous to have it done, and hopefully for you it will be smooth sailing afterwards. physically for me, it has been. (just started to lose weight last week). emotionally, however, that is a different story. i felt very much like someone had forced me into a drug rehab for food. hard to explain until you are there. then again, my doctor did not require a psych eval because i was self pay. i think you should pray and educate, as previously mentioned. then if not, i do not think you should let your husband stop you from trying to be a healthier you. i'm sure when push comes to shove, he would understand.

    Patience is KEY!!!!

I have been at the EXACT SAME WEIGHT for two weeks now and was at the point of becoming discouraged--I mean how can you intake less than 800 calories a day and NOT lose even 1/10 of a pound???!! The Old Me said "To heck with it--just go ahead and have whatever you want because you're not losing anyway" BUT the New Me said "Keep up what you're doing with the eating right and working out and if nothing else happens, you feel really great!" Thanks, Lap Band, for bringing out the New Me...!
  24. It might. It depends on your insurance company and also possibly your surgeon's office. One of the requirements for me getting approved for surgery is that I had to lose 10% of the amount I was overweight. When I started the medically supervised weight loss, I was at 366. At that time, they said I was 220 lbs. overweight, so I had to lose 22 lbs. They would not submit for approval until I lost the weight. That said, every doctor's office is different, and so are insurance companies. Have you contacted Aetna to find out what their requirements are?
