  1. I have been doing pre-op for a week now and I am just not hungry. I have been replacing my meals with the shakes and have a small healthy meal in the evening. I am still nursing my shake from lunch and it is now 5:45!:wink2: I have lost about 10 pounds since I started but I am concerned if I should still force myself to eat ( or drink) when I am not hungry.

    Newbie In North Carolina!

How is your recovery time? I'm just beginning my journey by researching everything and learning as much as I can. My boyfriend and I have decided to do the surgery at the end of the year because we have a 10 day vacation. Is that enough time to be able to go back to work? We have very physical jobs.

OH I did not go to a Dr that has the "prepay admin fee",,, I found out that some of them will then include fills... this is one you have to check on....

    Bc/bs Federal

I have bcbs fed and it took me about 10 days to get approved after I submitted everything.
  5. When I dine out, I order off the kids menu when I really just want to save money and I don't really want left overs lol but you could also share a plate with someone. Me and my boyfriend tried that last time we ate out and it worked out pretty well. Our bill ended up being 10 bucks! I think you should be fine for vacation in October, by 6 wks out you should be past most of the pain, if not all of it and your energy level will be alot higher because you will be eating solids again
  6. This is exactly what happened to me. I have been planning for sleeve since September. I got my insurance approval couple weeks ago and Monday I changed my mind to RNY. My surgery is Jan 10 and I am soooo nervous but I am happy with my decision.
  7. I've lost over 200 pounds and I feel incredible. I'm so happy I decided to have this life changing Operation done. For many years I felt that I gave up and I was passed the point of no return finally after having the surgery it gave me my life back now I work out every day I eat right and I am so excited that I can go into regular department stores and get the clothes that I want, exercise the way I want, it truly is amazing. whenever you feel that you can't do it anymore you can't give up. One thing that I really regret is that I gave up and lost 10 years of my life feeling that I wasn't good enough for anything. I can't get those years back but from this point on I look at it as a new chapter in my life to where I can move on and really enjoy the things that I've always

    10 Days Post Op

Congratulations on the new sleeve and welcome to the loser's bench! When I started working out again, it was more of just getting into the habit of walking and just going to the gym. The goal is not to be sore or winded after every workout. Get into the habit of going first. I started with walking for about 10 minutes in the morning and going to the gym for about 20 minutes four times a week. I started by just doing 20 minutes of cardio at the lower levels and no weights. As I got in the habit of going and started seeing results, I enjoyed working out longer and pushed myself a bit more every month and added weights. But I also did not overdo it because I didn't want to burn out. Now I go 4-5 days a week and do cardio + weights for about one hour total three times a week and cardio only for 45-60 minutes on the days, depending on how I feel. I gave myself a cap of 60 minutes because I'll burn out if I go more than that. Best of luck to you and continued success!
  9. Oct 12 update. Doing okay had some random sharp pains in the right hand side so started taking Tylenol again and it has improved. Had an issue with the incisions so went to back to surgeon and spoke to his pa. Turns out i was allergic to the glue..they removed all the glue and put steri strips on the open wounds. Still sooo itchy...trying not to scratch. I feel I can eat too much. I’m on the puréed stage and I ate 3 oz of beans and I know we shouldn’t eat more than 1.5 at a time. My weight loss has been slow. Most people Lose 10 lbs a week per my anecdotal research on this board. On oct 1 I weight 284 and today I weighed 277. Of course on Oct 2 I weight 294, lol. I will weight on Oct 15 which will be exactly 2 weeks. I’m happy with the loss, but really want one of these 10 lb weeks. Still really happy as I’m down 30 lbs from my high of 307 🙂 So far getting protein in no problem. Getting 64 oz of liquid a bit harder need to step it up......
  10. K well, i didn't eat the whole cheese burger. Lol, i ate half, and only the meat and toppings. Not the bun. My second oldest and i went to Nic's Grill in OKC it was features on "Dinner, Drive-in's, and Dives" it was good, and i could have eaten the bread if i had desired, funny thing is i didnt really care. So, what is my point? Well, yes there does come a time after surgery when u really can eat whatever u want. Both physically and mentally. Its a great place to be. Notice however i mentioned this was my 1st burger. 10 months out and 12lbs below goal. So, i read a post here and there where someone is saddened that they cant eat this or that at 5, 10, 12 weeks out. My thoughts on this are (no i dont think i am an expert or know everyones circumstances) we made a choice to force a change into our lives. Sticking to a healthy eating plan should be a given! Why try to eat burgers and queso and cake and all that when u have not made goal, this tool is amazing, it works. And it works even better if we are focused and diligent. Did i cheat here and there? Heck yes, margaritas are a weakness but if I paid for it in a stall, or a pain in the gut, i understood why and how to correct it. Now, here i am fighting the old demons as i order my with splenda! Did i mention im 12lbs below goal? I run 3 miles 3 times a week an 10 miles on saturday, the truth is i can eat whatever i want now. And mostly what i want is good clean fuel for this new amazing body i woke up in!! You can get there, you can find that place where u can eat whatever, just in smaller portions. But it takes some time and work. It takes remembering that nothing tastes as good as thin. I know this isnt as feel good as my normal encouragent post. I mean for it to be, i also mean for it to be a positive way to view where your headed and motivation to stay the course. If your just starting out push forward dont give up, refocus when u lose track and fight for the beat version of you to crawl out of your old self! GodSpeed Pasquini

    WHAT Is Going On ???

Slimmap, according to my doctor, it's the weather around here, and they seriously think that's what starting causing it. The barometric pressure in the air, as it drops, it can cause the band to restrict. After getting more fills, then having too much -- as the yo-yo started, I realized that I wasn't stopping eating at a 1/2 cup. If it was there, I was eating it whether I felt full or not (I usually did feel full). So I was overfilling the pouch and that can cause it to stretch out and ultimately cause a slip, where it's wanting to basically "spill over" and lay over the band. Just before my revision surgery, I knew something was wrong. I found myself drinking a lot of cold Water to see if I could feel it going through. When it was normal, I can feel cold going through the band. For the longest time, I couldn't feel that. When I went in and they checked it under flouroscopy, it was not only stretched, but had started to go over the band -- so since it wasn't "straight", things were just barely dripping through. That's when the dr. said it was time to do a revision and basically start over. But I know now, that this is my last chance for this -- for several reasons. One, is we no longer have the insurance we had when I got it in the beginning and had revision surgery in April. My husband changed jobs and we can't afford their insurance, plus from what I understand, insurance companies won't pick you up and cover previous lapband procedures. Also, I know that the stretching was MY fault. I allowed myself to go back to bad habits instead of babying my band and treating it right. I know my biggest issue is overeating -- when I feel full, if I still have food on my plate, I want to eat it regardless. So that's why I've joined OA to help get a grip on that -- it's basically a disease and I have to learn how to control it. So if you don't think it's the weather where you are affecting the band, could it possibly be bad eating habits? That's why a lot of us are overweight to begin with and were able to get the band. If your band feels fine for a while, then it's suddenly giving you the restriction problems, then there's got to be another factor that influencing it and causing the restriction -- i.e. weather (you may have developed a sensitivity to it) or even hormones, that time of the month, stress, etc. Start a journal and see if you notice if things are happening around the time you start having the trouble. It's worth a shot. I had my fill Saturday. I'd gained 10 lbs. since April and I'm almost within 30 lbs. of where I started when I first had the band. So I'm ready to do things right and figure out why I don't want to stop eating, why I depend on food so much, etc. I've done everything to a "T" since Saturday like they told me. I've been cranky and testy and I know that is why -- it's hard to give up a vice you've depended on for so long. But I have to realize that I only need food to sustain my body -- not for anything else. That's a tough lesson and it'll be a life-long lesson. I wish I could give you more answers -- just realize you have to figure out what the outside factors are that can cause your band to tighten up one day, when it was fine before. This is a foreign object placed inside our bodies, and since everyone is different, it could be anything causing your sudden restrictions. When it happens, go to clear, warm liquids for a couple of days and see if that helps. Also, as I mentioned before, try journaling and see if you notice any patterns, etc. Good luck, sweetie and let me know if I can do anything else for you!

How Long Before I Can Drive?

My surgeon's rule of thumb for everything was "if it hurts don't do it"... and of course not to drive if I was taking my medication (which I only did for a couple of days). I found that the first time I tried to drive it was uncomfortable, so I asked my mom to take over... BUT I drive a standard car, so I had to use both legs and both arms and it wasn't just brake and gas etc. Since I am short I also have to actually extend my foot to properly reach the clutch and that pulled on my lower abs, which pulled on my incisions. Around day 10 though I had no issues at all pain wise. At that point my drain was also removed which made everything easier lol. I truly think it is individual. If you feel comfortable and you aren't taking any narcotics then go for it. Since our surgery is laproscopic we heal much faster so we can go back to our normal lives much quicker.
  13. Went for my post-op visit yesterday and got moved to phase 4 puree! Although I still haven't felt a hunger pain, I was starting to feel sloshy and waterlogged and was super excited to try some food. I had tuna, greek yogurt, chicken, and a Protein shake and managed to get all my Protein and Fluid in...i feel so accomplished I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks and lots of inches. My surgeon said I should expect bigger loss now that I am adding food and i actually lost 2 more lbs this morning. Enough about me, how is everyone else doing from mid-August?
  14. willowee2003

    Hello Puree!

I'm excited that everyone is excited for the puree phase! I was sleeved 8/20/12, and my post op isn't until 8/6, but I'm already fantasizing about tuna and chicken and basically anything that isn't a protein drink. I'm down 12lbs in the 10 days since surgery, and I'm feeling great! I didn't expect to be up and about and ready to get back to life so soon.
  15. Hi Gail, welcome aboard! My name is Gail also. I'm on day 8 of a 14 day liquids only diet. I'm down 10 lbs. Yay... the liquid diet ain't no joke but its getting better each day. My surgery is scheduled fot th 10 th so i m also to the loosers bench. I know u will enjoy this forum.
  16. sweetjam69

  17. jalleyne1972

    Anyone getting sleeved 12/18?

finally got a confirmed date of 12/19, which is on a Sat, due to the Dr. trying to get everyone in before end of year, found out no pre-op diet for me because of BMI (only if BMI over 60) now the nervousness has set in.

    Nerve Damage

YES! Same situation with me. My right thigh hurts daily and my surgery was 10 months ago. I just bare with it tho because I also have chronic fibromyalgia and pain meds make me ill.
  19. So people talk about rest days and all that. But this video is for 30 days in a row. Is it ok to do it? People exercise everyday right? I hear you are supposed to switch up routines so you can give certain muscles a rest but this is set up so you do the same video 10 days in a row. Is this ok?
  20. I already have started doing the exercises they demonstrated in my class. I'm doing 10 exercises 2x a day. A minute for each. Can't wait until I can do more. I've had 5 back surgeries which makes this more difficult for me, but I'm hanging in there great! ☺

    HELP!!!

Hi hun , why not try some warm clear apple juice. You will feel the warmth of it going through. Are you still taking meds as they will make you that way. The longest I went was 10 weeks. Xx
  22. That is so neat! Maybe we can talk back and forth about ideas, experiences, etc... Makes me feel so much better to talk to someone with the same doc. Other people have amazingly different experiences. Anyway, I was so incredibly lucky as far as the appointment timing. I went to the preop, talked to Tishler for about 10 minutes...basically just about any concerns I may have. The nurse came in just after and said "well, we actually have an appointment open 11 days from now. I pretty sure my jaw dropped! Alba had let me know that the norm would be about 2 to 4 weeks after preop for surgery. I was so excited and suddenly scared out of my mind at the same time. Only because I was not prepared to hear that and you do go for a physical with your primary care doc as well as a quick, no fasting blood test within the week before surgery. And, of course, I suddenly realized I need to go food shopping, grab a heating pad, hibiclens, get babysitters, start the liquid diet and so on and so on. Anyway, I hope you get just as lucky! I'm all set now and happy to be getting it over with sooner rather than later. I should tell you that you really do get used to the liquid diet pretty quickly. It wasn't as bad as I thought and two nurses have called from the hospital to make sure I have all questions answered and everything ready. One of them was so nice and we talked for over an hour. She really put my mind at ease about the surgery, etc... Any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask. You're welcome to email me directly too: LAURIESMAILBOX2@GMAIL.COM TY for the support!

    Feeling sad :(

My partner does not support my "radical and crazy" idea of surgery and that I have not tried "eating less and exercising more" My mum supports my decision.. And I've been too scared to tell anyone else. My surgery is booked in for the 15th dec. going to make Christmas Day pretty horrific but I get 1 week paid office shut down between christmas and new year so fly down to melbourne on the 10th have pre surgery appointment, and surgery on the 15th.. Hospital for 5 days.. 10 days of go slow and hang out with my mum for a bit and fly home on the 2nd jan. My friend who I went to school with wrote a ebook called about nutrition aval at: www.nutritionforweightlosssurgery.com I still have not told her im having surgery.. Im 100kg and don't look huge but still need to get this under control. Im shit scared about living on milkshakes for 2 weeks!
  24. I was sleeved on 10/28. So far I am doing really well. No pain what-so-ever. No problem getting in my Water and Protein. I do get tired easily. I think that my calories are still too low. I'm averaging 600-800 calories per day. I'm also walking a bit, about 7500 steps per day. I do experience hunger sometimes. Usually it's when I see something I really enjoyed before. I think that it's head hunger. So far I've been able to ignore it. I am really looking forward the next food stage.
  25. I had surgery on 10/27/15. I am doing well. It's a real chore getting my water and protein down, but I'm doing it. I am rarely hungry. Even when I am I don't think it's true hunger, I think it's just moments of food nostalgia. I went back to work on 11/02/15, did fine. I walked on the treadmill for the first time today and was amazed how quickly I got tired, but I'm sure that will continue to improve. I am not really excited about starting puréed foods, I'm not hungry and bowls of paste don't tempt me at all.
