  1. I did the same thing. I figured insurance was submitted and I did my last weigh in so was a little careless with my diet before my pre-op diet. I think it's normal to have a little bit of a "food funeral" before your diet changes forever. I didn't have any issues. I did the pre-op diet with no problems and lost all the weight I gained back. Sleeved 6 weeks ago and so far, so good!
  2. hi there! I am post banded June 23rd. I work in the ER and was of for 4 weeks. I could have come back about 3 weeks out but I took the extra week because we only have 2 nurses in my er and I didn't want to hurt myself lifting. The whole thing has gone well for me so far I have lost 25 lbs in the first 2 months. I haven't had to have a fill yet either. My next appt is on Sept 9th so I will see if I get a fill then. I think I may need a little bit but not too much. Good luck to you!!

hair loss is fairly common. It typically starts three months after surger and is resolved within three months. There are three possible reasons, make sure you cover these areas and you should be fine. 1.) Protein deficiency. Make sure you are getting 60 grams of high quality protein per day 2.) Vitamin B/Biotin Deficiency. Due to the pre-op and post-op diets and the lower volume of food you could experience vitamin deficiencies. You are probably taking a daily muliple, if not start. You may also want to add a Hair, Skin and Nails formula (easy to find in most stores that carry vitamins). Look for something with 3000mcg. of Biotin. 3.) System stress: many people have hair loss due to "shock". The body has gone through a sudden diet change and a surgery. Sometimes our system will shut down unnecessary functions to focus on the necessary ones. Hair not being necessary for life, is the first to go. Once your body recovers hair growth will resume. I had a lot of thinning and I focused on the above things, my hair loss stopped within three months and now it thicker than ever.

debb_hoff wants to be "big loser" :)

Hello Friends, Thank you for your response. You are all so kind. I had my lapband surgery in Houston three days ago. I had to stay two extra days in the hospital cause my band didn't open up very much. I believe that was due to excess swelling. I had to stay on a drip to make sure I had enough hydration. I am home now without the drip, and I am trying to get fluids down. I think there is finally some trickling through. It has been kind of scary, but I am feeling more optimistic. But, I still feel that I wish I had not gone through with the surgery, but everyone says that will change in a week or two. I pray so. I am around 5'3 1/2" and weighed about 235. I think that I have lost 12 pounds or so in the last five days. I have been very uncomfortable with gas pains and everything coming back up. And I am talking only small amounts of Water until today. I had to miss my son's football game last night. He is a linebacker and had an incredible game...even put his picture on the front page of sports. It was nice to be home in my own bed though. I listened to his game on the radio. Everyone has been calling me and encouraging me. That has boosted my spirits. I want to thank you guys for being there. I know that this slump I am in will pass, and I will be better than ever...Must go now. Debbie
  5. I'm ranting here. I know what I need to do.. Protein Shake for Breakfast Protein shake for lunch sensible dinner DONE Where has the soda and bowls of Cereal come into play. It's like this crazy urge to eat and eat. I know part of it is from the lack of carbs throughout the day and I need my seratonin fix, but SHEESH....FAILURE! Four days to go and then three days of liquid I need some support here. I know I'm not the only one that's gone through this. Any ideas, tricks, techniques to DO IT? Obviously my forte is NOT will-power. Help...
  6. Hi- I was over on the yahoo group, wls_uncensored, and I read some scary stuff about the VSG... Like fat and Protein deficiency and leaky gut syndrome, as well as Calcium, Iron, and B-12 problems. Death/paralysis of the stomach in the long term... Now I know these are just worst case issues, but I don't usually experience buyers remorse, and I would love a little re-assurance here. I am having a minor freak out at the moment. In good news I am 2 weeks out and down 20 lbs.

congrats on the weight loss pre- surgery good job. I think it depends on what your BMI is before surgery and your overall weight loss attempt profile/history. If you have lost weight before only to regain plus more then the lapband is deffinately something you should consider. I think what your surgon is shocked at is such a high rate of loss, but again it depends on how much you have to loose. Do you have over 100 pounds to go? I'd still do your band surgery because the body looses in spourts sometimes and you can rest at a plateu for weeks before anymore weight is lost.
  8. i had alot of shoulder/neck pain for about a week after surgery. sounds strange but i think it's the gas everyone talks about. it should go away soon.
  9. It took a few weeks for all the bruising on me to go away. I am 4 weeks post op.
  10. Rev Me Up!

    Suddenly SOOOO hungry!

Every week that goes by is another week of healing and you will notice changes in capacity and appetite. I never really feel hungry, but I can sometimes feel empty - like I need some food to fill up. If you are clear for full liquids, try drinkable yogurt. Lots of Protein. If you are eating pudding, have you tried a little bit of cottage cheese, chewed up really well? You might need to leave the room when other people eat for a while. These frist couple of weeks are the toughest. Hang in there! Lara
  11. In general weight loss slows at an increasing pace as you get closer to goal assuming diet/exercise regimen stay the same. It is possible you are breaking a plateau though and experiencing a whoosh. Dont expect it to last more than 2-3 weeks max before you settle into your new range.
  12. I am in my 7th week, lost 15lb first 41/2 weeks. I started running and have not lost any more. Getting my water in and 3 meals a day. Is this normal?:scared2:

    Any Suggestions Stoped losing

YES. Even if you weren't banded, eating too little can slow your metabolism down as it will adjust to whatever the calorie intake you are eating. If you are under 1000 a day, try adding an additional 200-300 calories with a lot of extra grams of Protein like a Protein shake after you work out. If you are in that range, try going back on the liquid only high protein pre-op diet for a few days to shake it up it bit and continue drinking your water/broth/crystal lite or whatever 600-800 calories a day. Maybe do this one day a week. Also, eating smaller meals/amounts of food more often through the day to feed continuously should help also. Good Luck :frown:
  14. Hi RedSparkles11, My name is DeNesha and I was just banded on 2/24/2011 and to just be honest I have had many thoughts of eating and cheating lol, but the after surgery liquids isnt bad just consume 64 oz of Water and dont forgot your Protein. You will be fine. I did cheat being that I have been on liquids 2 1/2 weeks (just being honest) I felt so bad emotionally because I cheated but then I had to rethink the situation. My surgeon placed me on a pre-op clear liquid diet 1 week before surgery and then 2 weeks liquid diet post op.. Good news is I have only until this friday to move to soft puree foods!! YAY!!! I go to the doctor today to have my staples removed and I am so excited and more anxious about fills.(in a good way) Also please look out for creative ways to incorporate protein into the liquid stage.... sugar free DaVinci Syrups are life saver, they have so many flavors and when you mix these syrups in some vanilla Protein Powder its amazing!!!!!! So good luck to you and keep us posted!!
  15. Yes, you can stall in the later months too. I'm 9 months out, and I've lost only 9 pounds since February. That is about 3 pounds a month, and it seems that those 3 pounds happen within two days and the rest of the month -- nothing. I am exercising and eating right and drinking right. I can feel the muscles forming, and I can see definition in places I've never had definition before. I think the stall is because my body is transitioning. I know I was really worried that I wouldn't show a weight loss with my doctor, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was a 9 pound weight loss. My doctor said that it is normal to lose slower as I get closer to goal. He also mentioned that my body may change and go down in size without actually going down in weight (he's right). The good news is that I haven't stopped losing. When I haven't lost pounds, I have lost inches. I've also noticed that even when my measurements don't necessarily change, the way clothes fit me does. Something is going on as a result of all my hard work even if it isn't showing up on the scale.
  16. Did great the first six months, now haven't lost anything the past 2 months, just losing and gaining the same 2 pounds. I am so not looking forward to my next appt. with my surgeon on June 22. I am so embarrased that I may not even have lost a pound by then. Everyone talks about the 3 week stall and the 3 month stall. Anybody experience a stall in the later months? Help! Ducker

    any loss of energy?

The truth is that yes you will have some energy loss in the very beginning of your journey. While you are on the 2 week liquid diet before and perhaps after surgery. You will feel a bit tired and drag a little as your body detoxes from the "junk" foods and starts to adapt to eating high Protein and quality food. After surgery we are all tired for a bit, we just had major surgery. Once you heal up and your body has adjusted your going to feel amazing and have so much more energy provided you keep your nutrition up and follow your doctors recommended nutrition plan including any Vitamins they may tell you to take. Over all your going to feel better once you lose some pounds.

Looking for a buddy in the Buffalo NY area

Hey no excuses. We still walk. This is Buffalo! I hope we walk as long as possible. I don't think the group has gone through a winter yet. I know I will be there this Saturday at 8am. It goes so fast when there is someone walking with you. We talk lapband the whole time. Last week there were four of us. Consider joining us. I will be at the hospital 3 Mondays in a row for pre op, weigh in, and surgery. Preop work is September 29th. Keep up the good work. I hope I lose 20 pounds in the first 9 weeks! Right now I think I will be afraid to eat anything but I guess if I get hungry enough I will. Any tips for a soon to be bander would be apprecited. Right now I am at the age where I have to stop my hormones before surgery. Not looking forward to the side effects! There is a support meeting next Wednesay at 6pm that I plan to go to also. Are you going? It would be great to see you there.

Looking for a buddy in the Buffalo NY area

Hi Nicole, I am usually on another thread but I like to search around once in awhile and I found your post. I too live in Buffalo, South Buffalo to be exact. My surgery is October 13th. It could have been September 22nd but I was busy. It has been a long process but I think I am ready. Actually I would have said I am ready but I was at the beach last week, eating more than usual and am having trouble getting back on track. I am a "light weight" and don't have a whole lot to loose - perhaps 60 total pounds would make me happy. I go to Buffalo General and will have Dr. Hoffman as my surgeon. It will be interesting to hear the perspective of a patient of another surgeon. Let me know if you want to chat. Linda

    Leaking Port!!

Hi So after a 41/2 years wait, I finally had my band done over a yr ago (Dr Nottle) and for about a year it hasnt been working. Have done all his tests for them to realise it is Leaking not by puncture but port fault (of course i have to get the dodgy one) So i go every 2 weeks have a fill of over 2mls each fill. Every fll it is removed and in 2 weeks i can loose anywhere from 2 mls most has been 5 mls in 3 weeks. So for past 6mths i have sat patiently waiting to have it fixed. 1stly band has a fault nothing i did so i am getting really peeved off im still waiitng. Has anyone else had same happen? How long did they wait etc, my weight is going up and if it doensnt happen soon i will be back at my start weight (......... It just isnt fair...
  21. What about catering it? At five weeks post-op, I still have no interest in food, so being around it doesn't actually bother me. But I still don't like eating in restaurants yet...however, if your family wanted to eat out, you could go along and just get some butternut squash soup or something like that. I'm probably going to cook Thanksgiving dinner this year, but it will be simpler. But I should be able to eat most of the food, in teeny tiny portions, by then. By Christmas, you will at least be able to eat some of the food, so don't worry about that one...

    First Fill

I just had my first fill yesterday and my doctor put in 2.8cc in an 11cc band. I'm hoping also that I have a little more restriction with this fill because I was able to eat almost anything before the fill. I am on liquids for two days and then mushies for five days. He said I could come back in 6 weeks for another fill.
  24. I haven't even started submitting lap band paperwork to my insurance, BlueCross Blue Shield but I have read that they wand the 40 BMI plus a three year history of 40 or more. My friend suggested a write about my family genetic disposition to diabetes (the rarer skinny people insulin resistant kind) both my parents, grandparents, aunt aunts have diabetes and/or heart disease.....and they are skinny! She also thought if I pull out my GERD and joint probs with my knee, I might have a slight chance with insurance yet. Anyone else ever get around the years of weight history thing? Thanks for the responses guys, I am pretty frustrated and sad about all of this...........

I'm nott sure exactly how long it was, but more than anything, I was just wiped out for a few weeks -- to tired to bother -- sad but true. I don't remember my Doc putting any limitations on it though............
