  1. Its a long story, and I wont bore with the details, but basically this is it. I was banded in Oct 2009.. Have had LOTS of sensitivity problems with band, the nurse who did all of my fills (the only one I trusted to access my port) left the practice and myself & a bunch of other patients followed her to the new practice. I saw her once there and had a fill at 4 cc's.. Then went for my next fill and found out she left that practice too. Its now been about 9 months or so since ive seen anyone at either practice, and I still only have 4 cc's in my band. I always have had a very hard time eating anything and have not been successful at all with my wieght loss. I have 2 young kids and frankly just dont have the time... So anyway.. Last week we went out to eat to a hibachi restaurant for my husbands bday. I didnt eat much, but adterwards violently vomited. That night & the whole next day I was very very sick. Nausea, passing out.. Even diarrhea (sorry, tmi) I developed a high fever too. I eventually got over it but never found out the cause... But ever since that vomitting episode, I have had absolutely ZERO resistance in my band. Its like it emptied itself or something! Is this even possible?? Should I just go back to my original surgeons office? Someone please help..

    Insulin Pump Settings

Hey Audrey, I also have Adult Onset Type 1. So much fun, isn't it? I had the sleeve before trying to start with the pump so I'm not much help on settings and such, but my endo is the one who suggested this surgery and gave me list of how to take my insulin before the surgery and after in the different stages of feeding (liquid, mushies, soft, etc...) I'm 5 weeks out and I will say the results so far have been amazing! I went from taking between 60-90 units of insulin a day total to about 2 units every other day. Now that I'm eating more solids, I'm just taking a nightly dose of 6 units of Lantus and it's keeping my blood sugars stable all day. This is surgery is truly a miracle! Good luck! P.S. I've never met another Adult Onset Type 1...apparently we are pretty rare! Nice to meet you!
  3. So this was humiliating, I know I am overweight but I have always been looking out for my mom who had always been overweight and older of course. Back track one year and she had her gastric sleeve surgery, I went with her to Mexicali and she had her sleeve done by Dr. Aceves. I went with her but at the time was not convinced this was something I needed to do. Ha! As she lost weight, got more active and looked and felt much better I started debating more and more about it. Even my husband was on board before I was, a little stubborn I am , I know. A month and a half ago I had surgery with Dr. Wilhelmy in Mexicali too. I had already been there once and knew this was the place I was to have my surgery done too. I am only a month and half out of surgery and have already lost 34.5 lbs. I still have a lot to go but feel great and really feel I will get to my goal of losing 140 lbs. So this weekend I am with my mom and we had to either climb 3 floors up or take the elevator. Feeling energized and motivated by my weightloss I am all for the stairs. Well, I guess I need to try them again in a month or two. Let me just say that I do walk 2-3 times a week and it is not the same to walk around the track and to climb stairs. By the 2nd flight I am out of breath and feeling dizzy, my mom??? doing great, ready to continue. I could not take the elevator at this point, a pride thing, so I sucked it up and kept climbing LOL I can't believe what my pride made me do! I was lucky I did not faint, I felt that bad. Felt really prod of her, she has lost over 100 lbs and deserves all she has accomplished but still felt pretty bad. if I look at the bright side I did make it which I am sure 34 lbs ago would not have been possible. Still have a long way to go and catching up to my mom will help me keep on track!
  4. I was okay until I fell about a week and a half ago. We had to walk my daughter into school to talk to the teacher. Dusty, slippery floor, and a four year old sort of under foot. Next thing I know my feet slid out from under me. Got my little one out of the way but ended up spread eagle on the floor. I actually debated if I had cracked my ribs. (I did that in a fall before) I have fibromyalgia so I knew it would hurt. A week later I still hurt. Saw my primary doctor on Wednesday. She felt around. Asked when I see the surgeon again because I am about two months out. I said another month. She said call his office she would like him to check. Now I am nervous. I had pain before and the surgeon said it was from the hernia repair. Unfortunately my daughter is having some major health issues. I had to take her three hours away to the children's hospital Thursday. Got back earlier than expected and tried to call the surgeon but never got a call back. Of course my surgeon doesn't see patients on Fridays. Now I am stuck until Monday when it's supposed to snow. In the meantime I am still in pain and it's worse when I eat. Ended up vomiting once today which didn't help. Sorry this is long I'm just a wee bit terrified. The only good news is that after I fell I was able to get up by myself. I'm still a big girl just over three hundred pounds. So has anyone else fallen a couple months out? Were you okay? Thanks
  5. I was banded last Weds (May 30). I've had the assorted aches and pains with the incisions and the pain with my port. Over the last 48 hours, though, I've been having very sharp, stabbing pains in my upper right abdomen. It's above where the incisions are, and it's inside my body. It sort of feels like the painful, stabbing side stiches you get when you exercise, especially after eating. It's painful enough that it takes my breath away. I have not exercised, and I'm still on full liquids and have been very careful with how many ounces I've taken in. I spoke with the surgeon's office, and they said it could be from the port. I just don't feel that it is - I believe I've had that pain, and this is a different pain. If it gets even worse, I'm going to call them again. Have any of you experienced this? '
  6. Hi scooby..yes i experienced the same thing...i explained as a cramping feeling u get when u eat and the swim...i waited like three days and saw the dr who sent me for ultrasound and i found out i had small gallstones n gallbladder will have to come out...the pain stopped ironically the same day and i havent had it since. My doc said if i have another attack i would have to have it removed. I was also a week post op and just didnt want to do surgery again...hope u feel better!
  7. My doctor has me on two weeks liquids, two weeks puree, and two weeks soft. I get to start puree this Thursday and I'm so glad.
  8. I had planned a few things I wanted to have "my last" before my pre-op diet, and then my surgeon's office called and since my insurance approval came back so quickly they moved my date up by two weeks and I had to start my pre-op diet that day! No regrets though, I know some day if I still would like those things I will have them- just smaller quantities.
  9. Hi all, I got my surgery date of 3/17 last week and I have been having such a hard time ever since; eating like the there's no tomorrow and rarely exercising. Self-sabotage? Nerves? Both? Did/does anyone else have this reaction at first? I'm really trying to get back on track today.
  10. I had something a bit similar. I was given my gastric sleeve procedure date for the 18th (next week!!) last Friday. So since then all the way up to the day of my surgery, I have to be on this specific liquid diet. And it's killing me!! I want to have so many food funerals at so many places!! But I can't. So now I just feel miserable because this diet leaves me feeling hungry all the time. But I don't want to risk my doctor telling me he has to post pone the surgery. I'm done fairly well except for one setback last night. I'm back on track now and hoping to stay on track this time. You will get through to it!! Just be strong! Keep reminding yourself that this procedure you're having is something you want and it's to change and better your life!
  11. Hi again- I forgot to say on my other thread that a big reason I bought the Bodybugg was that I saw how the Biggest Loser TV show uses it. The contestants wear a Body Bugg and work out until the Bugg shows a certain number of calories burned per day. I saw Bob tell one man that he had a long way to go to get to 3800 cals burned. If you figure that a man uses 2500 cals per day and exercises to 3800- he will be 1300 cals down every day. THAT's how they get those big weight losses every week. Excercising enough to burn 3800 cals is about 6 to 8 hours of exercising for me and that's what they do on that show. I think it is unfair that they do not tell you what the contestants go through to lose 5 to 15 pounds a week. Makes the rest of us dieters look like we just don't work hard. The Bodybugg does tell you how many cals you are using and it has been extremely helpful to me- see my other thread on this board. Sadie

    Rigorous Pre-Op Eating Plan/Diet

I had my RNY July 2, 2013. My Preop was Prtein drinks for 2 weeks and Postop 4 weeks of Protein drinks. To be honest I was so ready to stop my merry go round I really didn't have a hard time either pre or post. I was honestly afraid not to follow my guidelines because I didn't want him to decide not to do my surgery. postop I was terrified I would do something that would undo it. I am so glad m mind was at this setting. Good Luck

    good fill, bad fill??

Hi Elizabeth - Sorry no one has addressed any of your questions. It sounds to me like you are tight enough based on your description of how you feel. Have you really looked at what you are eating? How many calories are you getting in per day? If it's lower than 1200, you probably need to eat more. How's your activity level? I guess we'd have to know some more details to help you troubleshoot your plateau. I'd be hesitant to say you need another fill based on your current physical feelings, regardless of what you are eating. If you are getting in around 1200 calories a day, exercising 30 minutes a day about 5 times a week, that should put you on the road to weight loss. Many people use www.fitday.com to track their calories and exercise. Perhaps that will help you analyze that side of it. I don't know how many people experience the discomfort you describe, but I tend to have a little pain my first two bites and then I'm usually okay. I think my first two bites are a) not chewed as well as the rest and  are eaten too quickly. Let us know the answers to the calorie/exercise question, and be sure to take it easy! But it does not sound like you need another fill.

    Beach Time? Or Not?

My instructions was no swimming (immersion in water) until my incisions had completely healed over -- no scabs or holes. That happened by my fourth week. Now if only the weather would cooperate I am cleared to swim.

    New energy-----New agendas

2010 is just a few weeks old and yet things are off to a great start. I actually look forward to getting exercise and trying new forms of exercise. I can go into GNC now and not feel like a fish out of water. I am taking care of myself and striving to be the healthiest version of myself that I can be. I have determined that this year I am going to complete projects that I had started long ago. I now have a renewed energy that kept me from seeing things through. I hate to admit it but I have neglected so many things because I was always tired or sluggish. I am going to paint my kitchen, finish some quilting projects, maybe even plant a small garden(if winter ever decides to end) I find that I'm no longer content to sit down and just read all weekend. I want to see my goals achieved. If I can repeat myself just one more time ..... I am so very happy with my decision to have this surgery and I am going to encourage others to do the same. It truly IS life-changing!!!!
  16. Trust me when I say, you'll all get through this time. I have found adding apple juice to water and not drink it icy cold was helpful in the first weeks. Consider looking at recipes like wonton soup, and just have the broth of that. It's got more flavour than normal broth, and you can add tasteless protein as well. Within a couple of weeks you'll be having puree or mash, and you'll find things far more palatable. Mashed pumpkin with butter and cracked pepper, leek and potato soup etc. Remember you've had major surgery, your body will tell you when it wants more or less. Keep smiling and know that in a short period of time you're going to start feeling so much better, not just physically by mentally too. 🙂
  17. Yes I am feeling like you describe.. i am one week out. Went to work today. Did ok but very week.
  18. HI, I had my band placed on June 8th. I was very scared about the operation but I have to say it was very easy. I went to sleep at 8:25 and I woke up in recovery at 10:05. I had no pain. I was very cold but they gave me alot of blankets and that passed. The first week was very tough for me. I was very tired and I was having some emotional issues. every day gets better. I am down 46 pounds and feeling good. Good Luck to you

    Feeling a Bit Overwhelned!

You're going to be fine! Is it easy? Nope. Not at all. But you can do it! The popsicles are going to be a little slice of heaven. How about broth, can you have that? I loved making homemade chicken Soup (giving the solids to the dog, LOL) and savoring the hot broth. Now's a good time to experiment with different herbal teas if you like that sort of thing. Before you know it, the two weeks will be over and you'll be joining us on the loser's bench. Be well…

    Thoughts about slowish loss

You've lost 31.8% of your excess weight in 7 weeks. 1/3 of your excess weight in less than 2 months. I lost about 13% of my excess weight in my first 2 months. I made it to goal and past goal, and am still at a normal BMI. You've convinced yourself you are not doing well when, in fact, you are doing extraordinarily well. Get off the scale. It's the devil. Continued success and good luck. Tek
  22. ok can anyone help me, I haven't read a ton about stalls after the first 3 week stall which lasted almost 3 weeks for me now i am on another stall at 2 months, and i have been stalled for 2 weeks, what is going on?

    How long off work?

There is no way to know how long it will take YOU to feel comfortable going back to work. That said, here is my story: I was sleeved on 10/19/11, released from the hospital on 10/21/11 and back at my desk job 10/25/11 only because I don't like my jerk of a boss and decided I needed Monday as a "me" day. My doctor said he wanted me out for at least two weeks but I cannot just sit at the house for that long (especially since my time off was unpaid). I heal rather quickly though. The biggest challenge for me so far has been my emotions. I was not allowed to take my birth control (hormone balancer), my mood stabilizer, or my antidepressant for three days. This threw me WAY out of wack emotionally. I am just starting to get back to my normal self. Another challenge has been that I work in a large room of cubicles with about 200 other people who all seem to have great smelling lunches. Oh and there were back to back pot luck lunches yesterday and today. Smelling all that food and then drinking my lunch is tortorous! This too shall pass once I can actually chew something. At home, I don't have a problem. I hope I have helped you or someone else in some way with this post.
  24. My doctor refuses to do a first fill before 3 months post op. I have been doing well in using will power to lose weight. Am I at any disadvantage or will the fact that I have to wait 3 months affect my long term treatment?
  25. I kept telling myself that I wasn't going to be that person that freaks out if i had a weight loss stall. But here I am.. Only 5 days out and freaking out about only losing 1 pound!!!!!!!!!! In my peop diet class they said that there is a small percentage of people ( 1% or something like that) that WLS doesn't work for them! What if I'm that 1%?? I mean.. 5 days ago I had this surgery and I've only lose 1 lb?!? I know I'm being stupid.. Sorry, but I'm just a little scared of it not working for me. :/
