  1. Just wondering how many cc's it took those with 11 cc bands to reach their sweet spots. I currently have 10.2 ccs and am not sure is I am there yet. I get still eat a fair amount until I'm full yet I have a tough time eating baked or grilled chicken (my favorite.) Will another fill put me over the top? I have yet to experience PBing and know for that I don't want to. Please share your own experiences so that I may gain some insight. Thanks!

    This cant be a stall......

Hi, I have seen some of your other posts so I know that you have been struggling... I know you don't want to diet, but for me, I have to, in order to be successful... If I don't know the fat and calorie content, I look it up so I know whether it's worth it to eat it, basically I just try to watch what I'm eating because I know if I graze or snack alot, it all adds up... I'm probably eating between 600- 800 calories a day but maybe a little more some days. I don't go crazy trying to count carbs or calories but I do try and keep up with my protein so that I make sure I'm getting enough. I have been working out fairly hard (at least 45 mins of cardio and some weight traning) so I know that really helps my weight loss. I'm sorry that you are not getting the results you wanted and I know how frustrating it is, I was a bander also and I went through it with my band. Don't get discouraged, I know you can do this! Try to get back to basics and you will see the weight come off... best wishes!
  3. I was sleeved 4/18/11 by Dr. Jawad in Ocala, FL. Not sure exactly what I have lost since each scale weighs different, but including pre-op diet, around 25-30 lbs. , maybe 20 of it since surgery. When I read what you are doing, first of all, make sure you gets tons of Water. Sounds like you are good on Protein but is it high quality and low carb? I love Jay Robb--too many of the shakes are full of chemicals and artificial ingredients and simply unnecessary carbs. Jay Robb is really tasty and mixed easily with anything and comes in lots of flavors. Sweetened with Stevia, a natural no calorie sweetener, but does not have the aftertaste of some Stevia sweetened products. Plenty of availability--on line, Vitamin Shoppe etc. And, you may be like me--I have always succeeded best at weight loss by varying calories, protein/carb content, and exercise intensity. Read up on interval training (going hard for a few minutes then backing down, over and over). I have added some full fat dairy because it is actually beneficial to blood sugar and weight loss to a point. Greek yogurt is usually packed with protein, and mixes well with the Protein shake powder I use. Don't get discouraged. Throw yourself into it, get off the couch, and record what you are eating and doing to keep moving. I am humbled by your great success to date, and know you will experiment with some of these suggestions you will find the combination which tricks your body into letting go of this comfortable plateau and finding a new, healthier one.

    No restriction?

The more dense the food, the more you'll feel restriction. Liquids and soft stuff never really triggered mine, but once I was on solids, it definitely kicked in. One bit of advice...weight and measure your food, don't rely on that 'full' feeling or restriction to do portion control for you. Portion your food, sit down with it and eat that portion. Good luck!

    Stretched pouch?

Yes, there is a way to find out if you've stretched it. Have them do a fill using Flora - that way they can see the pouch. Mine is slightly stretching, which the Dr. felt may mean I'm too tight. But I'm not filling any restriction either so go figure. The good news is you can reverse it. Check out this website. Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test
  6. Some docs do a slight fill during the procedure but I dont think I have heard of anyone getting one before at least four weeks after...plus it will take several fills to get to real restriction so this part is kind of a long haul where your band isnt really helping you. I tell people if they dont gain during these months they are ahead of the game..good luck!

    Need help please

If your surgeons office doesn't have a nutritionist on staff I highly recommend you find one. They will let you know what you should eat after surgery (and before if that's needed, I didn't have a pre-op diet either, I was 225 when I started this process). My surgeons office had a NUT on staff and she's fabulous, if I ever have a question (like can/should I eat this) I email her, she's always available and it's been such a huge support!! Good luck to you, it's a big decision. I was just about where you are weight wise when I made the decision to have surgery (oct. 12th) and it wasn't easy, I had a ton of people telling me i wasn't fat enough and shouldn't I be able to do it without surgery. The answer was always no and I'm so happy to be and feel healthy, for the first time in my adult life I fit in jeans that have single digits for a size
  8. Just home from having my sleeve converted to bypass on Friday at the Northern General in Sheffield by Mr Ackroyd who did the original sleeve, severe reflux and gain. Feel amazing compared to last time around. Good luck and plenty of health sent to anyone on a revision journey [emoji3] Kim Sent from my SM-G960F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Called out!

Every week, I take a class at my gym (LA Fitness) called Body Works Plus abs. It is what I term a fast and light weight class. Fast enough that you get a cardio effect while doing it, along with high reps (as opposed to the slow and heavy stuff I do in the weight room). The class has 2.5, 5 and 7.5 lb dumbbells in it. Stronger people (usually guys and super fit broads) can go out to the floor and get heavier bells if they want. Normally I take a pair of all three. Last night, Florence, the instructor, walked by and called me out about the 2.5s! She said I was strong enough to stop using them. The high reps do exhaust me! So I took that as a challenge, because normally I do use the 2.5s on some of the shoulder work because I am weak like a kitten in the upper body. I basically only used the 5s and 7.5s for the class. I didn't die. So I guess Florence was right. If this is worst of the problems in my life, I have it pretty good.

    Help! Feeling jiggly!

To try and minimise loose skin as much as possible you need to make sure your majority of weight loss is fat and not muscle. Two ways to ensure this eat enough calories each day and eat lots of protein.

    3 Days PostOp

You are unlikely to feel full when all you are consuming is liquids. Just wait until it's time for real food . . . you'll be amazed at how soon you feel full and on how little food. I know it's early for you both, but the first month is amazing for weight loss, generally--although I'm not sure I appreciated that, given how miserable I was the first month. I found that things improved greatly when I was able to eat again, but I'm still, six months out, consuming very small portions. Today I had a banana and a yogurt for breakfast and an omelet (ham, onion, and cheese) with some rye toast for lunch. I have not been hungry at all today. I may have a protein shake for dinner--because I need more protein. Hang in there . . . it will work out.

    Weight Loss

They probably gained 3 lbs of Water weight after surgery. You're on an IV and that puts water weight on some or probably even most. Don't freak out about this surgery. Be realistic about your expectations an keep remembering it's a tool not a miracle and don't expect it to be easy.. You got a lot of work ahead, this is just the beginning. My daugher had Dr. Garcia on Jan 23rd. We loved him and his staff in TJ. She's down from an 18 to a size 8-10. She like me struggles with the food addiction. We were just saying, "well you can't eat a whole gallon of ice cream at one time, but you can eat a gallon in a day!" Some days it's just hard.

    Tom!

I finally hit 179 after being 185 for 3 months and TOM hit the day after and now I'm back to 182 ugh! How much do you usually gain during TOM?!

    My Journey

What finally decided me to get banded was that I watched a documentary on obesity and heard the statistic that less than 4% of obese people who lose weight will keep it off. After all my yo-yo-ing I just knew that I would never be in that small percent. Once I made the decision, one of the biggest things I had to deal with was a certain amount of mourning for the change in my relationship to food that I was going to encounter. Once I was banded, however, I was so occupied with working the thing that I lost that sense of "loss". Welcome and good luck with your decision.
  15. Hi! My name is Irene and I am 25 years old. I was banded yesterday, January 9th by Dr. Bessler of NY Columbia/Presbyterian. The surgery went fine, or so I am told. My starting weight yesterday was 200.7, and my ultimate goal is to get down to 124. My doctors goals are a little higher, at 145 lbs. Well, we shall see. So far I have not experienced too much pain, but I am hungry! Is this normal? Right after surgery?
  16. I am on day 1 of my two week pre op diet. So far so good it takes me a while to eat my protein bar so that kinda helps with the head hunger. Protein shakes I found to be delicious. Premium protein from sams chocolate flavor. I also have the nectar sample pack so I can change it up a bit. I have gained weight since my consultation so I'm doing all that I can to get it off. Any ways here I go!!! June 5 th baby!!!! Oh also a bit nervous about the surgery. It's funny if I was going in for my ankle surgery I don't think I would be so worried, but I am about this one is it because it's an elective surgery. I just want to be here for my 2 beautiful girls.

    Long term results

If I had a nickel for every time a "well-meaning" soul has told me about someone who had WLS and gained it all back I'd be a fricken millionaire! Quite frankly it really peeves me because it's like they want you to fail and thus prove them right in all their mistaken and uninformed ideas about WLS. Most of us do struggle at some point to maintain our weight loss. The surgery isn't a cure and one must still work at keeping the weight off and deal with all the emotional and behavioral issues around food and eating in order to have long-term success. The majority of people who've had WLS do keep most of their excess weight off.

    I'm in a fix

Jim K- I had GERD before I got the band, it was control with Rx. I did go from one Protonix to two a day with the band. I am now a little over 3 months post sleeve and I take one every day and once in a while I do take the second one. I have gone over a week with out take any and just started to get the acid, so I went back on one a day. My first surgeon was not willing to do a sleeve on me because he thought I would have all the same problems as I did with the band. I found a new doctor who though all my problems were cause by the band intolerance. I am so glad I fought to get the sleeve. I am so much happier not being in chronic pain. I have people who do not see me every day say I look a 1000 percent better than I did with the band. I had thought that I had covered all the problems I was having, but I guess not. The final decision is yours and your doctor. You can always say that you are following your doctor order to lose weight.
  20. Hi everyone.. my name is Laura.. and tomorrow marks the second week since I had my surgery. I am loving it so far, and have lost 10 pounds. I am a married mama of 3 beautiful girls, I work full time. I had to go thru 6 months of medically supervised weight loss and my husband's insurance has covered most of the procedure. I want to do the right thing and lose 80 more pounds. I am going to begin walking tonight. I am so pumped about this and am ready for this weight loss journey!

    Hypo and worried!

Here is the run down... Had vsg 2 years ago. Lost 180 pounds. Pre-vsg I had a slew of health issues. PCOS, high lipids, high blood pressure, diabetes...you name it, I had it. Now...I am 10 weeks pregnant. I see a high risk ob with consultation from my Bari surgeon. However, I now have to eat every hour or two and for the first time in my life, I am constantly hypo! Docs are ok with 1 hour post meal bs at 70. My body is not. I also had two miscarriages pre-vsg and was constantly hyper with them. I am struggling to keep weight gain at a minimum but loading carbs is zapping me! Any advice?

    uh oh ...

But in the end, I mean really if I do wind up disqualifying myself is that really a reason to BM&G?? I would still be loosing the weight, (and by gawd it wont come back this time EVER) I just wont have that extra kick the band will give me to do it ya know? (I try to not get worked up over stuff that is just not worth it)
  23. Has anyone lost a great deal of weight and not had problems with saggy skin? I am 31, 5' 6", weight 230 lbs, and I am really worried about saggy skin after losing weight from the band. My surgery is Nov. 18th. I'm wondering if I should ask my doctor to restrict me only enough where I can average about a pound a week of weight loss. I have seen many people lose weight and then they have to have cosmetic surgery to remove the excess skin. I'm just wondering how many success stories are out there where skin has not sagged after weight loss, so please share out if you have one...AND please also share if you have had trouble with saggy skin after weight loss...I would like to know how fast you lost it and if you think the speed in which you lost it has anything to do with how saggy the skin can get. On the show, "The Biggest Loser" some contestants have no flabby skin after their dramatic weight loss and some do (when they wave good-bye it's really noticeable, if know what I mean). I'm getting my band to improve my health and it's worth saggy skin, but if there is a way to avoid it, then I want to explore that for sure...thanks for your reply posts and good luck to all!!!

    How Do You Deal With.....

OMG!! I haven't even spoken to the so called friend who was sleeved a year ago. And the other friend who had the RNY didn't acknowledge a text I sent her so I will no longer be sharing where I am at in the process nor will I share when I have the surgery. I did see her the other day and she looks great. She on the other hand kept telling DH that I was crazy that she lost 120+ lbs. in 7 months and where the heck was I going to lose the all that weight. That I was going to look anorexic and blah, blah, blah..... This time it didn't bother me. I appreciate all of your support. I know I can always count on you guys for true support. THANKS!!!
  25. I was hoping to get some input from those of you further out than I. As of yesterday, I've been sleeved for 3 weeks. I've had some problems with pretty severe nausea, but it's under control with medication. As long as I take my prilosec and zofran (an anti nausea med) every 8 hours, I feel great! I had a follow up with my surgeon this afternoon, and he wants to see me increase my calories from 400ish to 800 - 1000 as soon as possible. My primary care doc (who happens to be a weight management specialist) thinks the calorie increase will also help me not be dependent on the zofran. Does this seem a little high for just 3 weeks out? It seems like a lot of people aren't even on soft foods at this point, and are struggling to eat. I don't have a problem with eating more, since I could use the extra calories to fuel my walks and the yoga class I've signed up for, but I want to make the most of my "honeymoon period". Do 800 calories seem reasonable at this point?
