  1. NSV – Non scale Victory (ie: smaller clothes, compliments, climbing a flight of stairs etc…) From: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/34175-frequently-asked-questions/page__hl__%2Bnon+%2Bsleeve+%2Bvictory__fromsearch__1

    Frustrated

Comparing yourself to others will only frustrate you. There are so many factors you don't know. We all have different starting weights, ages, heights, medical issues that affect how quickly we lose. You can only focus on yourself. Make sure you celebrate NSV(non-scale victories) as well! Measure yourself, have your cholesterol and blood pressure checked and progress in those areas will motivate you. Remember, we did this for our health, not just to look great! You are not a failure! You have already lost 15 pounds in 2 months! On the stretched pouch issue, it is possible to stretch your pouch 2 months after surgery. But, usually only if you have been consistently overeating and Pbing. Find ways to keep busy and distract yourself when "hungry". It may pass if it is head hunger.

    NSV for a newbie WOOHOO!

Your picture made me laugh, because I was also happy when I could sit like that again! Just sliding into the car without smacking my knee on the steering wheel was nice, and now I can have the steering wheel all the way lowered and it isn't rubbing against my thighs. Your NSV's will keep coming- enjoy!

    Sharing a huge NSV 😊

Isn't that a wonderful NSV Enjoy your well earned vacation
  5. My insurance requirements were 6 months Dr. Visits. Psych eval. Amongst other things. My boss was the only person who knew. When I got my approval just after thanksgiving and got my surgery date. Day after Christmas. (Merry Christmas to me). I told my family the week of Christmas. Plus a lot of coworkers had found out. I am totally fine telling anyone. I workout at the local YMCA. So people have really noticed. Some ask others just compliment me. I lost 65lbs pre-op and as of yesterday. 14 weeks post-op. I have lost another 105 lbs. Total of 170 fine. I share it with many people. I am going to do an interview with YMCA and local newspaper. I also told surgeons I am willing to come their seminars to tell my story. I feel if I can help 1 person even look at the potential to get headed in the direction of better health. It is all worth it. I believe in sharing this journey with whoever wants to listen. I live the you took the easy way out. Then I go into education mode and explain what I had to do pre-op and what I have to do for the rest of my life. I love seeing their jaw drop when they realize just how much it takes. The look is priceless and my NSV for the day.

    Shopping!

I know that a number of you lucky Canuckis come down to Toronto to have the operation and to have your fills done. I also read that you like to shop while you are down here in The Big Smoke. Then there is this business of hitting a NSV and as we all know, a lot of those Non Scale Victories have to do with our clothes falling off our backs (or our bums, more like). And most of us who are posting here are women and most women do like to shop. I was shopping in a Winner's store today and I managed to strike pay dirt. This put Green in a good mood. Now it strikes me that it might be fun to have a thread devoted to the subject of shopping, the good, the bad, and the ugly. There is much that can be said about the bad and the ugly, especially when a grrl is not a size 12 or less. Green has been feeling bitter about the lack of choice in interesting clothes in larger sizes for years now. I also have a bone to pick with shoe sizes since I take size drag queen! This is another ugly issue. But I continue to want to shop, and sometimes I find good stuff. It ain't all tears of frustration, ya know. And this is why I thought that this thread might be both a way for us to vent and to have fun. Alors, voila le thread shopping, eh.
  7. Hey, I love the fact that my rings are looser, a NSV for sure, especially as I can now wear my engagement ring and wedding ring together!! I am also loving the shoe thing... and in particular wearing heals in work ... I am also looking forward to getting a nice pair of high leg boots where I can do the zip up...lol I think the docs are more interested in the health side of things but ladies, the rest is a real bonus and boost isn't it!!!!

    My first nsv!

Excellent, enjoy those NSVs! And set yourself tons of mini-goals, they're fun to achieve and can really help keep you motivated!
  9. another piece of advice is to stay away from the negative threads on this website about band removal.....not knocking them but why read them until needed. They are there for good information when you need it. I always read the positive ones. I love the NSV(Non scale victories) thread. Also the before and after pic thread. Stay towards the positive and dont let the negative creep in. good luck you will do fine!!

Fitting into smaller clothes is juch a great NSV. Congrats to you. I was at Banana Republic and took size 2's into the dressing room (they run 1,2,3). They were all too big! I needed 0s and 1s. It felt awsome.

A big Thank You to all

I am 6 months into my journey and i can definately say this would have been a lot harder if not for all I have learned from this forum. Who knew what a PB was????!!! When I finally had one i knew what it was and did not panic - swore a bit - but no panic! I have learned that no matter how different we all are, we all have had some of the same experiences and it is nice to know that someone else is experiencing the same things as you. I have lost a bit of hair, plateaued, PB'd, have trouble sometimes with chicken, have had some of the same ( and different ) NSV's ( have i told you about the pr of capris I bought in Apr and could not pull over my butt that I am wearing to work today?!:clap2: ) and try to stick to 1200 calories a day using Fitday ( which I learned of here) when I remember. So, consider this a personal thank you to everyone for paving the way for everyone by sharing your experiences! Gayle

    Kathy's Slow Loser NSV List

Excellent Ms. Vicky! Now, you go and start your own NSV Tracking Thread so that your NSVs don't get lost. It is so very important to keep track of them. They are what give shape and color to your scale victories!

Leatha, Youve given me a lump in my throat. That has to be one the most moving post Ive ever read. No joking. When we learn to give God the glory (not ourselves) ~ all of our struggles become so meaningful! Im so happy I could just squeeze you! And Im with Kathy - you are too popular of a bandster to be hiding in Kathy's thread! You deserve you own NSV thread.

    Kathy's Slow Loser NSV List

But Kathy, being Obsese IS a an NSV!
  20. Okay, it seems I have been inducted into the Slow Losers Club. Odd, but I guess it's true. I haven't been all that worried about being a slow loser, as long as I am losing. But, my stats speak for me, especially considering I lost 15 pounds in 12 days post-surgery and nothing more for 3 months. So, sigh, here I am. I haven't been a good NSV keeper. I will do my best to keep track and post them here. But I'm hoping they'll have to kick me out of the club, since I really really like seeing the scale move I can cross my legs now. It's easier if I am sitting back or lounging, but if I'm sitting up and scootch sideways a bit onto one hip, I can comfortably cross. WOW! My shirts are just too big. I go to put one on and I'm choosing the smallest one I have because all that extra fabric bugs me. Time to shop, but the budget prevents it right now. I'll do it, really! I need new bras. Forget the fact that the ones I have are stretched and old and ragged, they are too big! The girls just hang, I have no good support with them, and I look bustier than I really am unless I have the Body Dysmorphic Disorder thing going on about my chest size. Some of my bras are 40D's, some are 38D's, a couple are 40C's. I think I need 38, maybe 36D's? I can't imagine needing a 36C but it's possible? Anyhow, time to shop. I got a hair cut and can't keep my hubby from chasing me around. Wait, is that the new 'do or an NSV? Friends at church compliment me just about every week, tell me how good I'm looking and what a difference they can see. Yay! My undies are a little baggy in the butt. Sigh. There goes more money. I sleep better, don't snore anymore, and rolls in the hay with hubby are no longer uncomfortable...I can breathe when I'm laying down!!!! My new pants, something I actually shopped for, are size 18-20W and they are loose. Not baggy yet, but loose. My panni is shrinking a little. It's still there, the overhang above my C-sect scar, and it still looks terribly ugly and it's still in the way, but it's smaller. I even bothered to shave the bikini area the other day. I could almost see it!! My slide on shoes slide off if I'm not careful. My feet have shrunk/shrank (which is it?). I used to trudge up the stairs, but now I can walk right up. If I have my slippers on at home and need to go upstairs, I take them off and almost jog up. Okay, that's it for now. I'll post more as they happen and I promise to do a better job of paying attention to them. Slow Losers...I did it! I posted NSV's!!!!!

    Kathy's Slow Loser NSV List

 Well, I got me an NSV :clap2: that I've been working for 3 years to get up to and that is this. Today, I took myself outside and planned on just mowing a bit of my yard. Well, I wound up spending 4 hrs out there solid getting it! :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: I mowed my entire yard all by myself! I didn't have to quit and rest and I didn't ever feel faint or heck, I don't think I even really broke a sweat! I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF! Remember, I"m a girl, but not only am I a girl. I am a girl who has nearly died from a pulmonary embolism:faint: . I'm also a girl who has spent the last 3 years working up from 10 minutes on a treadmill and hurting so bad I thought I might not make it out of a mall because my feet and legs were killing me. :help: This day has been probably the most amazing I've had since being banded. I am alive, but more than that, I AM ALIVE!!!! And for this, I owe all the glory to God who strengthens me and who has seen fit to restore my health for His purpose. Amen!!

    Kathy's Slow Loser NSV List

I'm under 190! Just baely, but there and holding ground. So, my latest NSV has to do with laundry. I am putting shirts and sweaters in the dryer! Ask my husband what big news this is. We have had a few little tiffs about how important it is for him to NOT put ANYTHING of mine in the dryer but socks and undies. NOTHING! NADA! In doubt? Hang it on the rack. Never, never, never put my clothes in the dryer. Shrunk up clothes are not a good thing for BIG girls. And when I find a sweater that fits and it costs $50, it REALLY better not go in the dryer. So, I put some shirts and 2 sweaters in the dryer. They need to shrink! They are too big!!!! Wow. Now, not all of it goes in the dryer...but one of those $50 sweaters did. Good news.

I have an NSV! For the first time in more than 10 (maybe 15) years, I gave myself a pedicure this morning, including toe polish and all!! Even my 13yr old son got excited...........bless his heart, he has polished them in the past! :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo:

    Kathy's Slow Loser NSV List

AMEN! :amen: "for His purpose" being the operative words. His plans are sooo much better for us than anything we could dream up. And sometimes His plans aren't for something as Grand as we'd like to dream up. Sometimes it's the love of everyday life that is so fullfilling and keeps us going, knowing that we are living His purpose. THAT'S THE GOOD STUFF!!!!! You need to start your very own "Lethal Woman's NSV List" Not that I mind you posting here...you deserve your own thread!!! That is wonderful and so empowering, Leatha! You go, girl!
