Why am I still holding on to those clothes?

I guess I'm just the opposite..............I LUV purging the closet, bagging things up and moving them out. I feel such a sense of accomplishment when I'm done. One of those NSV's for sure. I've been buying cheaper "transition" clothes from places like Cato's and have even found some designer pieces at our local Goodwill to get me thru the falling sizes.

    What is your NSV?

I was banded Thursday and came back to work yesterday (Monday was a holiday for all of us in the US). Everyone said "I thought you had surgery last week!" I told EVERYONE in my office, and made a flyer that shows what, generally, got done. (PM me if you want the flyer) Not exactly NSV, but it makes me feel good to know that my color is good and my mobility is normal so there isn't anything out of the ordinary.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

I’m with the rest of you on the mojo stuff! I have often marveled at how so many of us in this group seem to be having the same thoughts, feelings and behaviors at the same time. I’m wondering if there is just a “normal cycle” to the banding weight loss process. It kind of makes sense because there are normal rhythms to attention, grief, and activity – so I guess we are in the “no mojo” part of our cycle. It also seems like it’s really important to try not to succumb right now. So what have you all been trying to over-come this? Today I went through my closest and tried on a bunch of clothes. I was rather surprised to find out that several things that fit a few weeks ago – are getting too big. So-I took them and gave them to the Goodwill. I think that helped a bit. Maybe this is one of those times where we are losing some inches – and less on the scale? I also had another picture taken in front of the frig. That’s the first time in 2 months. What things are you doing to find your NSVs? Are there people out there who are reading? Please come in and post. It might help all of us find our energy.

    What is your NSV?

I have 5 NSV's to share today! My pants are falling off, and shoes are loose! I feel more energetic - no naps Walked around the Canadian National Exhibition for hours yesterday People are very encouraging; you look great, your skin is great, what have you done Taking public transit now and walked home from subway; no bus for me! I have been a little sore, like I pulled something for the 2nd time. These 5 things make up for that! First fill next Monday! So what is making you happy outside of what your scale says? (I am weighing myself next week) Kim
  5. ME TOO! 50 seems to be a curse to me. It's when I truly feel a difference and start to think I'm "cute" and so, I let myself be a little more lenient. Pound by pound it creeps back and voila! I am starting all over again. boooo! I am getting a fill this Thursday and am going to recommit myself for getting the rest OFF! Join me! Here's the kick in the ass part (and I am listening to myself)--We took a major step to change our lives and our health. This is the rest of our lives...and now, that life can be a long one. The band and all of the rules are not PUNISHMENT--they are the REWARD!! You gave yourself a GIFT. Why? Because YOU are so worth it and deserve everything good. It's going to be better than you even dreamed about. Look for all of the NSV, no matter how small. Make a list! Today I realized that the "shelf" on top of my tush is GONE! Jump back on the bandwagon, TX. We're here to pull you up.

What's an NSV? I know the feeling of feeling good! and surprised... I pulled out some clothes I had sadly put away in a suitcase because they didn't fit anymore and were hardly worn ... got out the suitcases ready for my vacation and came across these clothes and tried them on! and they fit better than when I put them away! Whoooooooot! how happy am I? All new gear for my vacation and didn't have to buy any! Ah just found it.Non scale Victory!
  8. there are so many responses I want to give to each of you, but emotionally am drained. tucker had LAR-PAR surgery this afternoon. He came out all right, but postop problems of bleeding and infection are still possibilities. Unfortunately, he is not out of the woods. They found he has a hiatal hernia (between esophagus and stomach...probably all u nurses already know that:closedeyes:) and he would be at high risk of regurging into his lungs and getting aspiration pneumonia. so he will have abdominal surgery on tuesday to correct that. so please, once again, cross all those appendages for the boy...god bless him, he is the sweetest guy and is being very stoic through all this...not so much for the mother. I am a mess. hello to you all...congrats on losses, tatts, nsv's, etc. glad to see some lately absentees back....i will update in a couple of days.
  9. Deb ~ I am sending healing thoughts to your sweet Tucker. Dee ~ Congrats on those NSVs, girlie! You are so inspirational to me. Lap ~ I am definitely thinking of those states in the path of Gustav; we already have some evacuees here in Georgia. And now we have to worry about Hanna... Michelle ~ I know all have missed you around here, I hope you hang in there and find your happy medium. :frown: Happy long weekend to those of us fortunate enough to be off tomorrow. I never associated fireworks with Labor Day but apparently some of my neighbors do...good thing I plan to be up for awhile. :wink2:

    July Butterflies Master Thread

I'm still floating around. School started, I'm a school bus driver, so I've been busy. I'm on mushies untill friday and friday cant get here quick enough! I cheated though this past friday . I had a party at my house and ate a few chips with salsa and a 1" brownie, It could have been worst in my oppinion. Normaly I would have eaten the whole pan of brownies I've had a few NSV's! I can now walk down the bus isle with out zig-zaging between the seats! I almost did the happy dance in the bus yard! (I saved it for home instead!) and my belly no longer touches the stearing wheel.
  12. i forgot to ask: what does NSV stand for?
  13. Wow, it has almost been a full month for some of us and now it is time to venture out into the real world of food again. Great to hear how well your lunch went. It is nice to see how people are handling these real world situations. It is great that you like fish - I can't stomach it. I am hoping my taste will change with the surgery, I've heard that does happen. Great NSV! Keep up the good work!
  14. OK, so I go in to donate blood, riyhh? As I'm answering all the questions (what the hell IS babesiosis, anyway?), I see a big poster on the wall for O+ donors to consider "2x" red cell donations--so I asked. It's apheresis (30 minute procedure instead of 10-minute procedure), and you get credit for two donations instead of one, so maybe I get my 10-gallon pin in this lifetime. So I say, "Sign me up!" Nurse doesn't move, doesn't even shift in her seat. She mmm-hmmm's me, as only Southern women can, and says, "You have to be at least 5'5", (which I am), "and you must weigh at least 150 lbs" (pauses here to look over her glasses at me, as only Southern women can), "and we WILL weigh you first". So: not only am I TOO LITTLE to donate, I'm OBVIOUSLY too little to donate. Happy dance! Happy dance! :wink2: :tt1:

    Slow loser...NSV

Hey everybody! I'm checking in at 10 months post-band. I've lost 36 lbs. I just finished my first 5K and it did not kill me! Yeah. I feel so strong and have so much more energy. Tonight is my 5 year wedding anniversary and its the first time I've worn a dress since the wedding. I actually feel pretty. 40-80 more pounds to go and I feel successful and though it has been slow going. Slow losers take heart!
  16. As a soon to be bander, I've been following the August banders posts frequently, to help me anticipate what I might expect. What a fabulous business lunch, and a great NSV to boot. Congrats!!

    My first business lunch experience

WTG it sounds like it went great! That is a great NSV! I wish I liked seafood so it could be part of my diet!
  18. So, although I was nervous about it, I went for my first business lunch with a senior executive from our head office in Toronto. Reservations were at a swanky restaurant on the beach in Vancouver. I agonized over what I would eat and what I would wear... I checked the restaurant's website and decided that the BC grilled salmon and greens w/b best and that I just wouldn't eat what looked dubious. I haven't had a fill yet but have restriction so need to be very careful about what I eat and how I chew. As well, I found an outfit that I hadn't worn since 2004 and that fit me albeit the pants were a bit loose (that felt good!). So I got to the restaurant and ordered a Water with lemon while I waited. When I rose to greet him he gave me a hug and said "wow, you look fantastic, what have you been doing?" I couldn't have been happier. When the food came, I ate very slowly, took small bites, and chewed well. The salmon melted in my mouth...good choice...can't go wrong with fresh BC salmon. Although I couldn't finish the meal, it wasn't awkward or uncomfortable. I simply left what I couldn't eat. I must say that this was a great NSV!!! I managed to get through my first business lunch without any mishaps and had a great time.

    Twenties NSVs

I guess a NSV that we really dont think about is self confidence. I was on the phone with one of my best girls the other day and she was like you know I have really seen an improvement in your self confidence and at first I was like is that bad and she was like no its awesome the old Kanina is coming back to us!!! Even though I'm not back to what I was just pulling old clothes out of the closet and being able to wear it again is an awesome feeling! I was posting before about my bathing suit...well I couldnt find any suits ANYWHERE its like everyone stopped selling them period. So we went out in the boat a few weekends ago Ive been trying to learn how to kneeboard...I couldnt do it bc everytime we'd start to go my bottoms would come off...no one could see me but it was so embarrassing but deep inside I was like heck yeah no more lanebryant bathingsuits for me!! I ended up having to tie my bathing suit with hair ties...lol
  20. Munch~ Oh my.... I hope you are feeling better. Please update us on what your PCP says. I am worried for you. Deb~ Awww poor Tucker. I am sending all my healing vibes his way. I hope he is strong enough for the surgery and that he recovers quickly!! Dee~ Congrats on the NSV's!! Those are the best!! Sometimes we all tend to focus a lot on the numbers, but how you FEEL is SOOO important. Yeah you!

    I didn't die today!!!

Glad that you did ok...any nsv, is a good one in my opinion!
  22. ( laughing) I guess you could call this a NSV. I had to go in and get a stress test today and all that blah blah blah. ( just standard stuff) I was dreading it. Talk about being stressed over a stress test! My only thoughts were "I'm gonna die":scared2: When I went in I kinda made a joke to the ladies about knowing CPR and having the oxygen ready for me. My only goal was not to have my heart explode on the treadmill doing 90 miles an hour. I was pleasantly surprised when my heart rate reached 154, they got me off the treadmill and did their after treadmill thing and....I was breathing, as dork as this sounds, it made my day!

    My happy little NSV

Woo Hoo! WTG! NSV are sometimes better then the weight loss!
  24. Hey Folks! I had two great NSV's this week! In 2005, I had my achilles rupture and since that time, I haven't been able to stand on my tippy toes! I didn't have surgery to correct this, I wore a brace. Anyway, yesterday at Whole Foods, I was trying to reach the Brown Rice pasta and I just stood on my tippie toes and got it! Then it hit me! I had stood on my toes! I got tears in my eyes and just stood there for a moment of silence! Then today, I went swimming at Lifetime and I was able to get into the pool by way of the ladder! That's amazing! I usually have to take the steps! The ladder! Me!! The simple things in life that others have taken for granted! I am blessed to have achieved! I'm thrilled!
