    Tired after eating

Struggling with getting my eating/drinking balanced here (eating here being soup/yougert/cream of wheat/etc). I would love to do what you are suggesting, it's dang hard to "eat" for me. But then how do you balance the drinking? If you can't drink 30b4/30after....I am having a heck of a time. If I ate a couple of bites every 20 mins when would I drink? I was so proud of myself getting in all my Water Sunday and as soon as a started "eating" it got much harder! You are right. That was confusing. Let me clarify. Let's say I take my lunch at 11:30. I would have ensured I had at least 20 oz of water by 11:00 because I am so good with that. So, let's say I have 3 sliced ham with cream cheese wraps. I'll take one out of the fridge and take a bite. Chew it ridiculously putting it down after my first bite. For the ham I use, this roll will take about 4 bites. Takes me about 10 minutes to eat it. 20 minutes later, I head back to the fridge and grab another one AS LONG AS I AM NOT REMOTELY FEELING FULL. (or whatever my new definition of full is) So, I repeat the process. Yes, it does mean I am usually eating at my desk, but that is fine, for me. Continue to repeat this process until you BEGIN to feel the restriction. Doesn't matter if you are half way through one of the ham rolls, STOP! Just because there is food in front of us doesn't mean we have to eat it. I know ... that was a new one for me, too. 30 minutes later, resume drinking. On the rare occasion I go out with co-workers for lunch, the process isn't much different. If I am not sharing my surgery with others, if I am asked, I say I am just not that hungry right now but will probably have another bite when we are back at the office. I've been doing this for well over 2 years and it really isn't a big deal. I thought it would be at first, but then I discovered it really isn't all about me. We're learning new habits here. It is a good thing. I love the fact that I don't have to or want to power down food the way I used to.
  2. I am so glad I'm not alone!!!! I had my surg on 01/02/08 and lost weight the first two weeks. Now?? I'm at a stand still on the scales and am HUNGRY!!!! I told my husband I don't even feel like there's a band in place. I feel some relief knowing that this is normal. I just thought it was my imagination. I thought I had already failed, just like I did with all the yo-yo diets. Now I can't wiat for my fill on 02/14. It can't get here quick enough. Thanks for a great post!!!!
  3. I can't speak to the suggestion to gain 10 lbs (am 398 here) but I do know I find myself going up and down.. (consult is Dec 1). Somedays are 'bandy' (eating good food) other days are crazy bad (1/2 gallon of ice cream, a whole pizza, high carbs, etc...). I think this is just normal for me....
  4. Anyone else who did binge-eating and making every bad food choice possible prior to starting (and delaying starting) the pre-op diet? I feel disgusting and actually am getting turned off to the sweets and junk. What predicated the bingeing in recent weeks was my bariatric group telling me I might want to GAIN 10 lbs prior to surgery (to be over 200 lbs)---really crazy. Was this just to increase my medical necessity in the eyes of the insurance company?
  5. Hate to say it, but the VST site is dominating by threads about slow losers. You hardly ever see a thread about a fast loser. So it is hard to say or answer your question. I would say a new VST reader would form the wrong opinion if all they read are all the slow loser threads. A lot of these people are losing 10, 15 or 30 lbs in 30 days! Come on, how does that even qualify as slow losing? Anything more than 2-3 lbs a week should be considered perfectly acceptable. Later on, 2 lbs a week is very good as you get closer to goal. Sometimes a whole month may go by where the scale does nothing. People need not be so hard on themselves. Take one day at a time and celebrate on the small successes along the way!! And when weight loss does slow down, change is required. More water, more protein or more intense exercise for example.

    Unplanned meals away from home

Hi I was banded on 10/19/06. I just got back from McDonalds and had a grilled chicken salad. I ate the chicken first, very moist. After I ate about 50% of the greens. Don't forget, they have yogurt parfaits, skip the granola.
  7. I got banded on 10/27 so i've Bern on solids for a while and not at my green zone yet. I sometimes get that lump feeling too while i'm eating. Any ideas on what that, means?
  8. Hello everyone, I hope this is the right place to introduce myself. I had surgery on the 8th of January and am doing quite well actually. I've been battling my weight for just about all my life. A chubby baby and chunky adolescents. My first diet was at the age of 14 with Weight Watchers. My last successful diet was Low Carb. Which i would suppose wasn't all to successful since i opted for surgery. I chose the Sleeve procedure because of the lifestyle i was already use to. Low fat and low carb. The tools i learned with that went well with this tool "The Sleeve". I am almost 5 weeks out and 26 pounds down since surgery. My daily intake is protein first of course and chew chew chew. I was required by my surgeon to lose 10 lbs. through the holidays and was at surgery weight the day of surgery. I'm on track with my supplements and still working ever so diligently on my fluid intake. I usually hit the 64 oz mark but not always. My protein intake is good but still not at optimal. I find eating small meals through out the day is helping with that. I have to remind myself to eat because i generally don't have much of an appetite. I'm in it to win it! I look forward to meeting folks here and getting to know you. I'm sure i'll have plenty of questions for all the Vets here. Perhaps there's something i can share with you in return. Here's to all of us losers. Sincerely Sherri
  9. HAd surgery on December 10, I was able to lose the recommended 10 lbs before and have lose 10 lbs after. Don't recommend having surgery at the end of a cold . I never felt so thirsty. So far so good . I see the surgeon this coming week and I definitely am beginning to feel hungrier . I weight 220 and it's been over 20 years since I was under 200. Trying to keep on track
  10. I'm so sorry to hear all of the issues that were created for you by an unknowledgeable surgeon! My first question is have you able to keep the 75lbs off that you lost 60lbs pre band diet and 15lbs while with the band? If so, it's not useless, think about what would've happened if you didn't have the band there. Speaking from experience on previous diets I was able to lose 126lbs but then gained it all back plus 21lbs to eventually hit my all time heaviest, so even though a majority of your weight was lost in the pre-op diet stage your band has still provided you the ability to lose a little more but most importantly to maintain your lose after 10 years. What condition is your band in now? You had said that there was a slight slip, has it corrected it's self? Is there any fill remaining in your band? It sounds to me like if you got a hold of the right dr. they would be able to work with what you have and work for you and not against you. You're right in saying that you didn't fail the band but in what I read here the band isn't what failed you, your Dr. failed you. the band wasn't allowed to do what it was "promoted" to do because it sounds to me like it was never properly filled, monitored etc. so my words of encouragement are to find the right dr. find the right "restriction" for you and proceed with your journey. I wish you all the best!!!
  11. Piercedphoenix, I read that you are having surgery May 7th, so that's a 16 day pre-op liquid diet? I heard some people have 3 days, I was told two weeks, so I am not sure if that is 10 days or 14 days, hopefully I'll find out more this week. Good luck to you and 16 pounds is a good amount of weight! Good for you and good luck!
  12. Hi I am post op week 6 from RNY on June 25 and feel that weight lost has been very slow for me. I feel frustrated and defeated. I am doing and following everything and exercise 30 minutes daily if possible but not weekend. My weight lost has been the following: Start o my journey : 248 lbs After 2 weeks liquid diet: 237 lbs 10 day post op appt: 225 Week 5 post op: 215 My primary care doctor who I seen over the week end told me my weight lost was kind of slow compare to most other weight lost surgery. My bubble was busted and I cry all day. I have my 6 week follow up with my surgeon on Wednesday August 5,2015. I admit that I was hoping to be down to 200 lbs but I don't think this will happen. So I just need someone to help guide me through this and give encouragement. Thanks
  13. I was having the same challenge, decided to shop at thrift stores as I do not plan on spending a lot of money for clothes that will only fir for a couple weeks. Once I get within 5-10 lbs of my target, then I will be more open to spending for long term.
  14. Hi folks! I am 6 weeks post surgery and having my first real stall- scale hasn't moved in 10 days. :-( I knew this would happen eventually (from these boards and my surgeon also warned me) but it is still bumming me out! Anyone have any tips to help get through a stall without getting too discouraged or anxious that it will last forever?
  15. Sleeved July 17, 2014 Total weight loss in 4 months is 105 lbs. Number of stalls in that time frame: well over 10 I was told by a good friend who had gastric surgery before I did to "Expect the stalls. They are part of it." The key aspect to remember is that weight loss and healthy living is an aggregate measurement over the long term - stalls are temporary, short term pauses while your body makes a corrective change. Your job is to keep doing what YOU need to do to allow your body to help heal/shrink/repair/nourish itself. Don't sweat stalls...they are coming- just like your weight loss is coming. The only difference is the stalls are temporary and the weight loss is long term. You will do fine... relax and enjoy the ride

    Removed Band After Goal Weight?

I don't know of anybody who has done that... probably because one could achieve the same thing by having the Fluid removed without the risk of surgery. I've sort of experienced life as a non-Bandster for a long-time... longer than I've been filled and Banded, actually. In my first 18 months of being Banded, I lost 95 pounds. Then I became pregnant.... three times! Each time I've tried to fill after the pregnancy, the Band hasn't worked the same. So I've had to be unfilled again. Up until the start of my third pregnancy, I had maintained a loss of 60-65 pounds of the 95. It's the first time in my life I've ever maintained any weight loss for more than a day. Seriously. I was not one of those people who lost 100 pounds and gained it back. I was the person who never loss more than 7 pounds to begin with... and always gained it back + 10. I just had my third baby... so we'll see how my final attempt at a refill goes in about 6 weeks. I can't imagine not having a tool to use... so I'm looking into a VSG should I need a revision. I really wish the Band worked as promised, however... as I really don't want to go through surgery again. It's such a different decision when one is single vs. when one has three little people to care for.

    Starting To Get Really Anxious!

Yea I wrote the dates for everything I went to, like December I put application in the all my appts at the hospital, when I met the surgeon and it was a longggg list I can't believe It took me 10 months to get sleeved and underneath I wrote all the reasons why I'm gettin it done! It felt good even writing it down! 10/9 is gonna be the best day of my life besides my wedding anniversary
  18. I remember reading this article Jillian Michaels wrote. She said to dig down to the deep rooted issues of why you want to lose weight and what healthy means to you, not just for healthy? I know Healthy for me is so many things, getting off my cholesterol medication and metformin for pre-diabetes and PCOS and metabolic syndrome. It's seeing my toes, it's the ability to walk up the street without getting out of breath...etc.. I made a list: 1. Not seeing the doctor so much! 2. Being able to wear what I want in a normal size! 3. A better quality of life where I know I will live a longer life! 4. Getting off medications I don't need! 5. Squeezing into tight spaces! 6. Not taking up much room in general! 7. Not minding having my Photograph taken! 8. Consuming food that is nourishing! 9. Riding on an airplane! 10. Looking into the mirror and knowing I did it!!! Those are my top ten...what are yours? Lisa

    lap band

No special diet at all before surgery. Actually, I had many last suppers -- all of my favorite foods. lol. My surgery was at 10 am and, of course, I couldn't eat anything before the operation. Well, when I finally got home and settled in, I had a cup of chicken broth and who would've thought it would taste so good. I remember thinking mmmmmm this is heavenly then passed out for the night. Later that week I begin to eat tomato Soup with 1/2 can of skim milk. That really seemed to fill me up more than the broth based Soups. And thank heaven for wal-marts' sugar free popsicle's for 1.50. I think I bought 4 bags and still have some in my freezer. I just went in for my first fill and Dr. Terracina hit the port the first try--Thank heavens! I'm up to 5ccs now and I noticed I could only eat a half of a tomato sandwich instead of the whole thing--yeaaaa! It's working and I'm not hungry anymore..... Good luck with your operation and healing. For me the worst part was the next day I had to return to the hospital for the Barruim (I think that's how ya spell it) ex-ray and couldn't drink anything before, which meant no pain pill. But I survived.

    Started exercising again

Julie, I reached goal in July 2006 and only began to really exercise 7 weeks ago. I am with a trainer and I had no clue how out of shape I was. I walked my dog everyday and when I began exercising, I wondered where did those muscles go while walking the dog. I think I was stronger heavier than I am now but you know what? You will begin to get stronger and stronger each and every day. The tread mill is excellent for weight lose. You should do that 5 days a week if you do nothing else. If you are going to lift any weights, I go to the gym 3 days a week and work with the trainer for 1/2 hour and then at home I use my tread mill 3 times a week for 1/2 hour. I have become addicted because I feel SOOOOOOOOOO good. I even quit smoking over two months ago. When I started at the gym I weighed 136 and I am now 142 and my clothes are fitting the same so it better be muscle weight that I am gaining because I am not eating anymore than normal. My first month I lost almost 5 inches but because of the excess skin it is hard to measure my fat percentage. I feel incredible and wished I would have done this while I was losing weight maybe I would have had less skin. Keep up the good work. Josephine Surgery 11/10/05 251/142 At Goal 7/06
  21. For Vitamin with IRon I use the Flintstone Complete It has Iron. NOt wild about the taste but is one a day anyway. For calcium I have been taking VitaFusion Calcium 500 mg Gummy - I take two at a time 3 times a day. For B-12 I found it cheaper to get a vial from the pharmacy. There is a 10 month supply and I inject myself. NO biggie. The cost for the B12 is about $11.00 for a 10 month supply and about 20 cents for each syringe.

    Fun Thread 042005

It's been too long since our last fun thread. Hmm, what game could we play here? How about best "busted naked" pictures. If you've never been busted naked, any "busted" story will do. Me: I grew up in sunny Southern California and spent my summers at the beach as the fat kid in shorts and big t-shirts. I never even owned a bathing suit. So when I bought my first home, I decided it's NAKED TIME for me. I skinny dip in my backyard, and if the neighbors don't like it, then they have no right looking over my 10 foot walls! One morning I was stading buck naked inside the house looking out the sliding glass door to the swimming pool thinking about taking a morning dip. Much to my surprise, three young boys were hoovering on top of the wall about to jump into my backyard (they apparently threw a toy over and were going to retrieve it.) Boy, you shoulda seen the looks on their faces staring at a naked 300 pounder!

    STOP IT!

Doesn't it feel amazing to get rid of the "fat" clothes? I've been giving Goodwill bags full. The other day I found more size 16s and I'm a 12/10 now. I don't want that negative talk in my closet. Congratulations on your success!!!

    had my band repositioned

What were your symptoms that lead to the repositioning? My doctor thinks my band has slipped because I was waking up in the middle of the night and coughing up bile and spitting it up like 5 or 6 times a night, so he unfilled me and then slowly re-filled me. It seems to be better, but I may still have problems. If I know what the symptoms are, it may help me make my decision to whether or not I have the surgery to have it fixed because I only have about 20 pounds to go. The surgery is going to cost me around 10 grand since I am unisured and I don't have that kind of money sitting around. I hope you get better and get rid of the nausousness(not sure if I spelled that right). It isn't fun to feel that way. Good luck! Julie

    Day 6 post op

Hon--the Carafate is supposed to be dissolved in water---No one TOLD you that? You make what is known as a "slurry" with it...Place it in like 2-3 Tablespoons of Water...it'll dissolve---THEN take it. I started crushing all of my meds 1 weeek pre-surgery..to get used to the taste (I knew it would be bad...so I mix them all in a bite of pudding) Regarding the post-op gas pains, walking-walking-walking gets rid of it...and I agree...it can be painful. I hope it gets better for you...I'm a new post-op, as well..Just had my surgery Thursday, 11/19/15. Happy Thanksgiving to you! [[[[[hugs ]]]]]
