  1. I love sitting with my legs crossed again after almost 10 years. I weigh less than anyone in my house now, My waist is now 33 inches and my skinny butt husband wears a 34. (he's 6'2") I can wear smaller clothes I feel sexy now for the first time in years. I feel more comfortable now when sitting on the couch or driving my car. (just got a new one) People are really starting to notice that I've dropped 58 lbs and comment now because they see the difference and not just because they know I had surgery. There are so many good feelings. The biggest is that my self esteem is really coming up because I feel people are noticing me for the right reasons and not just because I am fat. It is funny how when you are bigger that people don't really approach you to talk or look you in the eyes as much. I didn't think people were so judgemental about people who are overweight, but I am finding out that they are.
  2. Hi there! I would really like some advice / feedback from a few who might have had the same experience. It's now 10 weeks since I had my band fitted & have lost 24 1bs so far). I had it filled 3 weeks ago because I stopped losing weight after 4 weeks. I was on liquids for first 2 weeks then mashed food for 2 weeks after which it felt as though I had no band really and could eat pretty normally, the band was not filled when it was fitted at the op. After the adjustment with a 7ml fill, I had 2 days on liquids and 3 days mashed food. Since starting to eat normal food again I often have pain when I eat the first few mouthfuls, like gas in my chest or that the food is stuck, although not always. It's worst in the morning, so I have a Protein shake for Breakfast which is fine. At lunch it could go either way, sometimes fine or painful, so that I either have to take a break and walk around a bit or have to throw up a tiny bit (not nice). If this happens I might be able to eat after a while or if it continues I give up and don't eat, which is one way to lose weight I guess! By dinner it's usually ok and I can eat a small portion with no problems, but not always. Basically some days are better than others and I don't really know why, sometimes even mashed food can hurt, but more solid food goes down just fine. If I can manage the first few mouthfuls ok then the whole meal is usually fine. I know all the basics like not drinking at the same time, eating slowly and chewing everything a lot but this does not seem to make any difference. Has anyone else had the same experience? It would be great to hear from you.

    Bald and depressed...

I have gotten a minimum of 70 grams of protein since week two and it made no difference- I started losing hair big time around three months out and though it has slowed the average seems to be losing until 8-10 months out and then slow regrowth. I had thin hair already and now it is pathetic. It is so funny- I look at my before photos and though of course I do not miss being that weight I also always notice how much better my hair looked! It does NOT help that I am in the pool five days a week. Oh well, if I go bald at least I will be skinny and bald!

    Feeling discouraged!

all of the above posters are correct. With hospital weight gain, it's from the IV fluids. Some people come back from the hospital 10 lbs heavier than when they went in. It can take a week or so for it to work its way out of your system.
  5. Hey, my name is Auburn, I'm 19, and I'm considering taking on the emotional, physical, and financial investment that is the Lap-Band system. Right now I'm in the flirtation stage in terms of commitment. I'm making an effort to learn as much as I can about the procedure and the risks and benefits of it, and for me, I can't think of a better way than to hear from those who've actually had the procedure themselves. I'll admit, there are many things about the Lap-Band journey that terrify me, but hopefully over time I can grow more comfortable with the logistics of the operation and the lifestyle changes that I would have to make. Who knows? I might become so comfortable that I'll actually do it! It's probably not surprising that my interest in this system comes after New Year's, which is a time to make resolutions. While I am not a fan of resolutions, and losing weight is not a resolution, my obesity is something I need to start acknowledging, and what better time to start? (I'm really sorry if this introduction seems impersonal or flippant or too long; I've been going through a lot of emotions due to my decision to finally do something about my weight after being a 'fat girl' my whole life, and sometimes my thoughts on the subject tend to spill out all over the page.) Anyway, this seems like a kind and supportive community, and I hope to gain some insight.

    How Different We Really Are

ok this sounds like a fun post. I'm 5'3, started my journey at 195lbs, wanted to lose 70 lbs and weigh 125 lbs. at 195 lbs, i wore a size 14 to 16 in pants, and a 1x in tops. I reached goal in 6 months and 10 days. lost the 70 lbs I even have lost another 4 lbs since then, now weighing 121 lbs. Now, my pant size is (adult) 2 or 4 or (Juniors) 3 or 5, and i have a few 1's. and tops are small or mediums. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine I would be this small, and I must say....It feels awesome. Stick with it, follow your dr's nutrition advice, and it will work for you also.

It Seams That My Weightloss Has Stoped

Hi,at 5 month and 2 weeks I entered my first stall. It lasted 7 weeks but then I started losing again. After the stall I now lose nothing for a few weeks and then 5-8 pounds overnight. When I average it still comes to 7-10 pounds per month even thoug it drops in only a few days and the res of the time the scale stays the same. Be patient. You are not done.Do the right things.Stick to your calories, carbs and Protein limits and exercise and it will come off again.

    Banded in Boise

Hey all! I've seen a few posts lately about Dr. A or Dr. V. I don't know of Dr. V, so I can only speak from my experience with Dr. A I was banded by him 11/18/10. He has a lot of requirements, but honestly if you are willing to have these appointments and lose 10% (I lost most of that, he didn't keep me to the full 10%) you are at a place in your life that it is all worth it. These are things I had to do: Nutritionist Lose 10% (they give you a special diet to help with this, and the diet also is to prepare you for surgery by helping to shrink your liver) Psychiatric evaluation (making sure you are a good candidate mentally) EKG (I had taken PhenPhen in the past) sleep Study (was advised to ask for a "split" study, this meant that if they discovered in the night I did have signs of apnea they would come in and put me on a machine and monitor that, this way I didn't have to go back twice) Blood work (he has other things he likes to check beyond a usual bloodwork, a list was given at his seminar) Last papsmear Referal from my primary Dr. Mamagram (hadn't had one.. blah I don't like those...lol) 5yr weight history from my primary Dr. (not sure if that was his requirement as well as my insurance) I have really good insurance, they didn't require me to do a 6 month anything. My requirements were: BMI 40+, Diabetis, over weight for last 5yrs. I had done a lot of research and have a cousin that was 2yrs out from having her LB so by the time I went to his seminar, had all my tests, had everything faxed to him from my primary Dr. I was in surgery 2 months later. He offers support group meetings at St. Al's every 4th Monday of every month. I have had 3 fills from him and he is an amazing person. I have asked him a ton of questions, things I have read here, things I need clarified etc. and he has never hesitated to answer them. He is a very knowledgable person and has done banding here in the Boise area for 5+ years I believe. I had never had surgery before and I wasn't nervous at all. My scars are not bad and I have been totally happy with my experience. Also, he see's me at my appointments, not an assistant or just his nurse. Just thought I'd share, since I'd seen a few posts out there. Best of luck on your journey's. Would love to 'friend' up with you all around this area. Having a big support group has been really helpful as well. There are quite a few Idaho bandsters at another website called band2gether.net too.
  10. I am a size 18-16 and my last weigh in I was about 222-221 lbs. I am 5'10". My sister is 185 lbs, 5' 7" and is a size 10. We are similar in build and muscle - except I have more muscle bulk than she does. But since she has finally gained some weight it is all in her legs and butt (and yet amazingly proportionate, grrr, lol) - I have to rely on muscle for definition in my legs and butt, as all of my weight is in my stomach and arms. I am curious to see how I turn out...
  11. Hello all, My name is Bianca. I received my lap band on 10-06-08. I am going through a bottle of emotions right now. I didn't do well the first out and I hope that I am going forward in positive way. I hope this forum will help me to stay focused as I reinvent Bianca.

    banded 10/5 by Dr Kirkland

When were you banded? What type of list do you have for restaurants? I love to eat out & that sounds like a great idea! I would love to have some ideas as to what is good to get while at a restaurant. I was banded 10/5. My 1st visit was 2 weeks later, I did not get or need a fill then. But I am needing one now. I have an appt on 11/5 & he said he wants to fill me then because of thanksgiving. He also wants me to come back in Dec to get one before Christmas.
  13. Hi, I kind of stumbled onto this site. I was looking for an answer to the question what should I be doing to shrink my liver before my surgery in 10 days? My surgery is on the 17th. I am 280 pounds, nervous, yet excited. These sites are offering me encouragement so that I can fight back the nervousness. So its a pleasure to meet you all.
  14. Hello, all the way from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. My name is Yumna and I'm Canadian/Pakistani. Living in UAE since 2008. I've been obese my entire life. Thank you, mama and Papa genes! I have the same story as all of you in my position. Did 100000s of diets, activities, prepared food subscription, spent thousands of dollars on things that just DIDNT WORK! I also suffer from PCOS and it's not been easy! I'm honestly so tired of trying and now that I am married (since 2019 January) I want to start a family. My PCOS is the number 1 reason why I've resulted in looking into gastric surgery, I knew the option was always there but to be honest I never felt uneasy in my skin. Growing up chubby made me comfortable with who I am. But now that I had a miscarriage and want to start a family. All i am seeing at the end of this dark tunnel is another thousands of dollars, needles, and suffering for years to try to grow a family. JUST BECAUSE OF PCOS AND OBESITY! Ahh, my frustration now is beyond I've ever been with my weight and PCOS. So here I am looking through this forum and trying my best to get all the information i can for 1. Gastric mini bypass 2. Gastric sleeve These two are what I'm stuck between, I've visited a very qualified surgeon here in UAE - he has recommended the mini gastric. however, the idea that not only will my stomach be sliced but also my intestine is scaring me. So i ask you gastric sleeve and bypass recoveries to tell me which option is best and why. When you were deciding why did you choose what you did and how has it helped you and failed you throughout the years post-surgery, I want to know the good the bad, and the ugly! I would like to make a decision in the coming 2 weeks and set my mind up. Till then ill continue to go through the millions of threads here! If you've read this far, THANK YOU! 😍
  15. I started feeling fine when I hit around 160, but I didn't consciously try to stop because I'd read a 10-20 lb rebound weight gain happens to most people during year 3. So I just continued with what I was doing and I eventually drifted down to 138, where my body naturally stopped. And yep - rebound happened. Up to 150 by the end of year 3 (which is perfect for me), and I thought I would end up stabilizing there - but no - I gained 10 more lbs around year 5. Trying desperately now to get back down to 150, since I felt like I looked and felt my best there. so in short, if you're sure you want to stop there, then that's totally fine, of course - but just keep in mind that a 10-20 lb rebound after hitting your low weight happens to a lot (probably most) of us. I'm glad I let myself keep going because I eventually did end up where I wanted to be (although again, I'd like to be able to get rid of the last 10 lbs that I gained!!)

Goal weight - just a number?

People started telling me the same thing when I hit about 150. I’m 5’3.5”, so a little shorter than you. I’m also a sm in tops and size 6. I’ve now dropped to 140ish, glad to have hit “healthy” BMI (just barely!). I’m comfortable here and am working to maintain in a window of 140-145, which at the high end will technically be overweight but I’m ok with that. BTW I lost 19 lbs since my skin removal surgery in January. According to the doc 11 lbs skin was removed so I’ve dropped a little more via diet and exercise since.
  17. Hello, I am on here because I recently had the Lap Band. Just 4 days ago. Im doing awesome. I have a few questions in regards to the diet as of now...the liquid diet. Im not sure if im suppose to be only eating like the broth and jello 3 times a day or does the 3 times a day rule come into play like after the 2nd week when you start to add the pureed consistancy foods. I feel fine. I think the majority of the inital pain was definatly the gas and the swelling. The gas was brutial. I was very glad that I was expecting this. If not I would have thought I was having a heart attack. WALK WALK WALK...that is definately what I reccommend, the walking really does help. Once I finally got to my house and walked up stairs, that really helped release some gas. I would strongly suggest if you have steps near to use them, if not use the hospital steps before your discharged. I am going to strongly testify that walking really got me thru this. I have 4 co-workers that also have been banded so I got lots of advice from them. I believe this issue was their worst. Day 3 for me, I was having bm's I never had to use a laxitive. Day 4 so far, the swelling as gone down and im not near as sore. Day 3, I could really feel the incisions that was the majority of my pain. I also had more energy and it was hard to stay in bed, I was getting bored. I had my shower yesterday and it definately tired me out. After that it was very easy to stay in bed. Im just so glad that I did this and cant wait to start exercising to get this moving. Im still unclear about the first two weeks...if Im suppose to be like eating the broth 3 times a day, or is the 3 time a day rule kinda like ignored during this period since its all liquids?? I need to find that answer out. I dont want to stretch anything out. I havent been wanting to call the doctor since its the weekend. I suppose I like to be as low maintaince as possible. Well thats my story in a nut shell!!
  18. It took me 10 years to come to the decision of having surgery. I would waffle between "Am I ready?" and "I'm never having surgery because I can do this myself!" Personally, it took me multiple times of real hardcore effort of losing, only to find myself regaining, to finally accept that I cannot do this on my own. It is not something to be rushed into, so take your time, do your research, give it a real honest to goodness go on your own and go from there. If you do decide to have surgery, you will know when it is time.
  19. Craved some Japanese food, so I had 4 small gyozas, and I was fine with those. I also got 4 steamed pork dim sims to go, and had them many hours later. I think I ate them too fast and broke the no fluids for 30 mins after food, as I had to take few large tablets about 10 mins after I had the dim sims. Had that stuck feeling in my oesophagus, and I could feel it spasming a bit. I just sat down, waiting for this unpleasant feeling to go away, next thing this huge slime ball comes out of me ..... No nausea, just slime and more slime. Yuck! It just shows that at 8 months post op, stuff can still happen! I was too busy to eat, so I got too hungry and ate too fast. I am not sure if the light Pasta like wrapping had something to do with the sliming, although gyozas have a thin layer of pasta like wrapping also, and I was OK with them. I normally would have my regular Protein meal, but frankly I had enough of it, and wanted to try something else. Anyone else, further down post op still sliming at times? What sets it off for you?

    omg! 1 year out...

I'm 14 months out, and I'm also stuck. I have been for two months, and I track every bite - religiously. I am over some days at around 1800, but most days I'm around 1100. I would be happy losing 2-3 pounds a month at this point. I really think I only have about 10 pounds to lose, and I think the rest would come of with plastic surgery - about 15 pounds. No advice for you, only commiserating. My plan is to just keep doing what I'm doing, and not stress about it any more. Except for one thing, I've not been exercising, so I'm going to start that again and hope it makes a difference. If not, I'm way better off than I was. Sometimes our bodies defy what we think we know to be true.
  21. I had gastric sleeve on 8/20/19. Every now and then i feel like im hungry. Or at least my brain is telling me i am. Has anyone else felt that way? Sorry i am new here. Thank you. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    How much protein/sugar to eat

Just seen my typo. Sorry! My plan wants me to eat 5 to 6 meals a day. Less than 10 fats, less than 10 sugars, more than 10 proteins. Following that I'll get more than the 60 protein a day which is recommended. Hope this helps :-)
