  1. I sounds to me like you are pretty much doing the right things. Some people lose weight in fits and starts even when doing everything right, but rest assured they still lose weight. Give it time and keep up what you are doing and I'm sure you will start dropping pretty soon. Getting out and doing more exercise is only going to help you lose lose more quickly.
  2. Lema

    Exercise!

When I was at that point, I was told to walk. I did but not as much as I should have. Now that I look back, with very little effort, I could have lost a lot more than what I lost. As time passes by, the weight loss process slows down and you have to work harder to lose. If I was smart enough, I would have walked whole lot more.

    Exercise!

Walk as much as you can, don't lift anything more than 20 lbs. That's what my doctor tells me. Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: - 71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). My profile picture is not me. It's my "FitSpiration" body.
  4. Thank you that is very encouraging! I take metformin but yeah, obviously I am not eating the way a person with pcos should:embarassed: It does seem like the only times I really lost weight was when I ate hardly anything and followed a low carb diet. I just get sooo hungry at night that I eat way too much fatty and carb-full foods. Did your doc give you any idea of how much weight pcos'ers can expect to lose in a week or month?

Band replaced after slip. can't find sweet spot.

The bigger bands take forever to get to your sweet spot. Weight loss seems to be a lot slower because of this. What if you get your next fill under fluoro so there is no more guessing? Just get to your sweet spot?
  6. At today's weigh in I was 238 lbs. I have not weighed that since 2005. My highest weight was 291. That's a loss of 53 lbs. Slowly losing but keeping it off. 220's here I come.
  7. Hello,I too am struggling, but I thought maybe we could support each other. I was banded in 2010, lost 60, have gained back about 30. Eating has been unhealthy-also emotional eating, late evening eating, stress eating. I hope talking about it with someone who's been there can be encouraging!

    Yesterday was the day! YAY

Nice - Calories really don't change my weight loss to much per week, although i do not weigh myself much at most once a week. Some people set a goal of say 900 calories per day and get it down to they are exact every day, Me Im to dang lazy to be recording calories all the time, I run low on calories about 600 a day and will adjust the excercise to make me feel better. However i have found that not much changes on a weekly basis in terms of weight loss, I hit between 3.5 and 4.5 just about every week.

    Starting to wonder...

You've already done the hardest part - realizing you needed this and now going through with it. Don't try so hard to convince others. Most of them (especially ones that never had weight problems) will never understand. Keep doing what you're doing, don't talk about it much and be proud of yourself. You're doing this for you - not anyone else.
  10. He doesn't do the fills in the office; he does them in the hospital under flouroscopy. He counsels all his patients in the beginning that the reason why he does it this way is because you have fewer "misses" and he can ensure a positive experience that way. I know my original post sounded a bit whiney...I'm so excited I did this and this 20 pounds I'm down is the fastest I've ever seen any type of weight loss on any type of program. I'm just so frustrated in not seeing the scale move at all for 2 weeks straight. I'm following their guidelines strictly with the help of all the fabulous recipes I found here and I get all my Water in and my protein/drinks. I know we are only supposed to lose 1-2 a week and I'd be so happy if I saw that in the past 2 weeks. those of you going through something similar have you gone back to mushies to give yourself a boost???

    Immediate stall?

Two weeks out you will still have swelling, don't weigh until one month out. You will lose, it is next to impossible not to lose but your body is still healing. I gained 8 pounds of fluid after surgery and did not drop those 8 pounds until day 9. Just hang in there.

    Very scared and nervious

MTVLMOM - It's absolutely normal to be nervous about the surgery. ANY surgery is scarey stuff and you really do have to think about the entire package when having it. But...I can tell you it's the best decision I ever made for myself. We mom's don't always do things for ourselves...instead we do it for our families but, you know what...you need to do this for YOU. Reason being....lapband is just a tool...you'll still need to work at it, make good food choices and yeap that swear word...exercise in order to lose the weight. Sure some will come off at the beginning no problem but, it slows down and we need to adjust our movement to get the weight to move downscale again. I was nervous too...but even more nervous that I wouldn't be here for my son or if I were...I wouldn't be able to function without pain and/or being more sick etc. The nervousness doesn't really stop about the surgery until after the surgery is done...then you know what? WE end up nervous about other things...will this work, did I screw it up, am I eating right....I can only tell you to take one day at a time and it gets easier I can remember two days before my surgery crying my eyes out because I was scared not only of the surgery but, whether or not this would be the answer for me and the biggest thing that got me upset was.....WHY THE HECK DO I HAVE TO DO THIS TO MYSELF IN ORDER TO LOSE WEIGHT? Well......then I came to the realization that I needed help...I needed a tool to keep me on track and THIS was it for me. I'd do good dieting for the first few weeks...then hit a plateau..diet a bit more than blow it because the scale didn't move. THIS tool keep you going because you can't quit (well yea technically you can drink ice cream shakes, eat chips etc if you really think about it but, even then you can't eat as much as you used to prior to banding)..it keeps you on track long enough to kick up the eating right again. I too used to be so out of breath having to take a flight of stairs or walk any distance to my car or store etc...but, that's so much better now Clothes fit better, I have more choices in those too. You can do this! You can definately do this for YOU and for your kids! The best way to get over the nervousness is to ask all the questions that come to you....doesn't matter what it is....nothing is silly or stupid when it comes to Your Health and Your Life so ask away. i wish you the best on your band journey. Goodluck and best wishes!

How long can you expect to lose weight

Your skin shrinks for a while maybe up to six months then it is what it is. You can lose weight as long as you put forth the effort! No limit. But you've had great success! CONGRATS

Any pointers anyone? Please Respond...need encouragement

My husband has Blue Cross Blue Shield and they paid. It has to be presented as a medical issue. We had to give them a five year history from the primary doctor showing he has been over a certain weight for 5 years or more. Plus he has high blood pressure, sleep apnea and diabetes runs in his family. If you have medical issues over your weight, I do not understand how they can turn you down? Did your doctor present the case properly? My husband just had his surgery this month, 8/10. But it took us a good portion of the year to get the packet together for insurance approval. Oh.. one more thing his primary doctor had to write a letter of recommendation as well. Not sure if this helps.

    Excess Skin?

I had some slightly sagging skin a few months ago after the rapid weight loss, but I can't tell that I have any now. I think the muscle building back up and the skin (elasticity) meeting it halfway has helped me.

Less than one week till the big day!!!

Well only 5 more days till the day. I am so excited & scared both at the same time. I don't think I was nearly half as excited as I was for my wedding day. I of course am not into being the center of attention. I am the caregiver and don't have much time to care for myself, that is why this surgery is so important to me. IT IS ABOUT TIME I START CARRING FOR MYSELF!!!! :frown: At my preop appt on June 18th I weighed in at 236 with a BMI of 44.1. My highest weight after nursing my son was 243 on May 31, 2008. My husband has been supportive throught the preop process by going to appts with me and asking questions that he was concerned about. I have chosen to tell some people and haven't really decided on others, but you know how people talk, so I am sure that I won't have to tell many more people because the will have heard it from "the grapevine". This weekend will prove to be a busy weekend. There is the birthday part on Saturday for my lil cuzin that is turning 1. Then Sunday another big day "my future niece's baby shower, can't wait to see you RaeLee!). Not to mention Sunday may last day of eating... At least preop. I start a clear liquid diet Monday-Wednesday and can't drink anything after midnigh on Wednesday.... I hear this can be one of the hardest parts, I am excited to start the process. My husband won't be able to go with me when I get my surgery. Which in the long run might be better as he tends to get anxious very easily and if there were to be any complications it may be harder on myself. 5 more days and counting!!!!

  18. Well, abstract of an article, anyway. Here is a link to it. It compares results of all the major surgeries. I thought you guys might be interested. It may require you to register, but it's free. If you do have to register, it should take you directly to the article afterwards. The authors reviewed all reports published in English journals up until September 2005 that had at least 3 years of follow-up data. It shows that Lap-Band and RNY were statistically equal in the mid-term (>3 years). There weren't any long-term results (>10 years) for the lap-band procedure, but the authors did note this: "Mean %EWL for standard RYGBP (RNY) was higher than for LAGB (lap-band) at years 1 and 2 (67 vs 42; 67 vs 53) but not different at 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 years (62 vs 55; 58 vs 55; 58 vs 55; 53 vs 50; and 55 vs 51). There was 59 %EWL for LAGB at 8 years, and 52 %EWL for RYGBP at 10 years. Both the BPD+/-DS (biliopancreatic diversion with or without duodenal switch) and the Banded RYGBP (banded bypass) appeared to show better weight loss than standard RYGBP and LAGB, but with statistically significant differences present at year 5 alone. The LL-RYGBP (longlimb bypass) was not associated with improved %EWL."
  19. From what I have read, it is normal to gain a bit when you go back to eating real food again. It seems that you are doing the proper things to follow the protocol...one additional thought to consider is that with exercise, you build muscle, which burns more calories to maintain. Muscle is also heavier than fat...so your level of fitness may be increasing your muscle mass, which is good. I was banded around the same time as you were, and I have just started "mushies"...I promised myself to make good food choices, and not weigh myself every day. Just stay focused on compliance with what I am supposed to be doing. Going through the banding surgery has some additional psychological impact on us as well...you may be experiencing this. You are just a few days away from your appointment to see your doctor...try not to obsess about the weight, remain compliant, and then discuss your concerns with the doctor. Good luck, and keep your focus on the reward of improved health!

    New Year looking better

Let me start by saying Happy New Year. This year will be very different for me. How you ask? Well I got on the scale today and since my first visit to the doctors I have lost 55lbs. Since my surgery date on Oct 23, 2009 I have lost 45lbs. I won't officially change my ticker until I go to the doctors on Jan. 13th. In 2001 I had open heart surgery because I and an aortic aneurysm. I also had a valve replacement. That was 8 1/2 years ago. I am already back down to the weight I was when I had my surgery. I go to visit my cardiologist on Jan. 25th and am very excited to see what is said. I will need to have open heart again in a couple of years because they put a pigs valve in last time, which only lasts for 10 years or so. This time around I will get a mechanical which should last for the rest of my life. 6 months ago my cardiologist said that I really needed to lose the weight because I was taking the chance of dieing on the table or at the least risking infection if I did lose the weight. So here I am. I have lost about 1/4 of my goal weight. So here is my New Years Resolution. I am extremely greatful for the support of my family and friends and everyone on here, but I have come to realize that the only person who is truly going to help me do this, is myself. I want to LIVE. I don't want to die young. So I refuse to let food control me any longer. I will however not give up living. I do realize that this is a lifestyle change but it's not a reason to give up living. Everything in moderation. So if I make a mistake I am NOT going to punish myself for it. I am just going to learn from those mistakes and move along. So 'FOOD' move over because I'm taking over. This is MY life, not yours. Good luck to everyone in 2010. I hope you have as much success as I have had and continue down your path of weight-loss. God bless you all and thanks for being here for me.
  21. This is Normal in the Healing Process. I gained weight, and was told it was fluid protecting the injured area, and it would come of. I thought the Dr. was crazy, but,,, he was rite on the money. Your only job now is to heal. The weight loss will start eventually. Once it really starts to come of, theres no stopping it. You came this far ! So give yourself a full blown chance.
  22. Well, I had my first fill on Thursday afternoon and 2 days later, I can feel NO DIFFERENCE. I had 1.5 ccs in a 10cc band. I had gone from January 14 to beginning of March with great restriction from just the band and lost 25 pounds. I lost restriction, started eating more and gained back a few pounds. I know that most people get several fills before they get restriction, but I was hoping since I had restriction and lost it, it wouldn't take much to get it back. Here are my questions...once you lose restriction, how many fills does it take to get it back again? Do you usually feel the restriction right after the fill or does it take a while to "kick in"? I've tried doing a search for old posts, I get hundreds of seemingly random posts that have nothing to do with my search! Thanks for your help!

    Just another story

I am new on the site but have been a member of LBT for 2 years. I have not lost any weight since the inital month of the post op diet since being banded. They would do a fill then have to take it out due to not being able to drink liquids. I was doing that for like 2 years. I am livid!!!! I hate that this stupid thing is in my body not doing what it is supposed to. I have switched insurance due to my husband getting a new job. My new insurance has an exclusion stating that they will not cover anything to do with bariatric whatever. So I have written an appeal to the insurance company and have gotten a response saying that they are going to need a certificate of coverage from my old insurance co. I called to get that. Now what.... I have this stupid thing in my body that doesn't do what it is supposed to do and now I can't even get it out!!!!! I am so frustrated!!!!! What is up with me? Why didn't the stupid thing work? I tried to go on to LBT and see if anyone else has had this problem and of course everyone wants to tell you that you need another fill.....HELLO! I have had fills and unfills for 2 years now.....So the reason that I am posting on here is that maybe I can get this stupid thing out and hopefully get the sleeve put in. I am still considered morbidly obese because of my height 5ft 2in. I just need some encouragement and nobody telling me to get another fill (I have nothing in there now).

    Why am I not losing

Your crazy work hours don't help with the weight loss. I'm a nurse who works 12-hour night shifts, so I get it...you have to do what you have to do. You are only 4 weeks out, and I know this is hard but try to have some patience with yourself. Possibly you've hit your first stall. It is only the first of many, so get used to them. They are frustrating, but my surgeon told me some things that help me get through them: Stalls are NECESSARY. They are your body's way of trying to find a new weight setpoint. Without these "adjustments" you would continue to waste away to nothing and eventually die. Muscle weighs more than fat. As you lose fat and exercise, you gain muscle and it may look like you're not losing, but you are losing fat and gaining muscle. Stalls will occur more frequently and last longer the further out you are from surgery. I had a stall that lasted almost 6 weeks, and then I dropped 10 lb in less than 2 weeks, then hit another stall. That's how it goes. You can't let stalls get inside your head and give you an excuse to fall off the wagon. Stay the course, stick with your plan and the scale WILL start moving again! Good luck and don't get discouraged...the surgery DOES work!
  25. Lisa, if you've read many posts on LBT you've seen the phrase "bandster hell". That's where you are right now. 2 weeks post-op, you're still healing. Don't be so darned hard on yourself! A lot of people gain in the post-op period. I gained and lost the same 4 pounds three times before I actually starting losing post-op. Just keep following your doctor's instructions and once you start getting fills, you will find it easier to do what you're supposed to do and the pounds will start coming off.
