I'll be 8 years out this June!! I was doing great but have struggled with a 25 lb regain over the last year since I had covid. ordered some new protein earlier this week and plan to get totally refocused over the weekend (once it arrives)! Was doing keto for the last 6 years and did great initially but have realized that I'm not losing anymore with it because my fat intake was just too high, so going back to a strict post-surgery eating plan.

March 2022 Surgery Buddies

So glad to hear good news from my surgical twin. Yeah, sleeping in my own bed in my natural position is the highlight of surgical recovery for me so far. I had my one-week clinic checkup today, and the news was almost all good. Unfortunately, I can't get my drain removed yet -- still draining too much fluid to take it out. Maybe Monday on that; we'll see. Another highlight: Pureed diet starts on Sunday, and I'll finally have some food (albeit mushy). Really looking forward to it, especially ricotta bake. I'm very much a cheese lover. -

I had my surgery 17 days ago. I dealt with a lot of pain initially, but I'm fine now. My autoimmune issues have been flaring, so that was likely the cause. I started solid food back today, though I had a few bites here and there that I shouldn't have. I've basically been non-stop starving, which I didn't expect at all. Emotionally, it's hit me a few times, but I just tell myself good things and move on. Now that I can eat food again, today has felt fairly normal. I don't feel like I'm starving. I can eat more than I thought I would be able to, but I'm doing good. I was told not to start my calcium chews and b12 until 6 weeks, but my chews came in the mail today and smell delicious lol. -
September Surgery Buddies!!

Hey. I had my surgery in Sept too. My weight loss has slowed quite a bit and at one point it stalled. What I found is that even though I didn't think I was, I was eating more than I had been and drinking more. My body had finally gotten used to the new stomach and I think adjusted itself. So I went back to the basics.... Making sure I had the correct portion sizes, weighing my food/snacks, drinking zero calorie drinks,I also added in weight lifting. Everytime I hit what I think is going to turn into a stall I retrace my steps and also add just a little (and I mean a little) more activity/exercise into my routine. I also make sure that if I'm only going to eat a little it's protein. Also, I remind myself that I'm trying to maintain my muscle and build more while losing fat so if I've lost a lot of fat since surgery it makes sense that the further out I go, the less there is to loose and the longer maybe harder it will take. You will get out of your stalls I promise! -
WLS (sleeve) schedule for 4/26th 😁

Has your hair stopped thinning out now? I've started taking high dose of biotin and a good multi vitamin. I'm hoping that getting it in my system before surgery will help. That might be wishful thinking. I'm coming home the same day as surgery and my dr said I could go back to work in a week but I planning on being off 2 weeks. When you say the first 4 weeks were the worse. What do you mean? -
Pre-op diet day 4, Zero appetite?
Maurej replied to tristynftw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be thankful you’re not hungry. I’m on day one of my three week pre op diet and I’m definitely hungry. I’m hoping this gets better. -
I'm 3.5 months out and two inches taller than you, and I've been averaging -10 pounds a month. My 3-month checkup was last week, and my NP was very happy with my progress. As others have said, your starting weight will make a difference. Any loss is good loss; sometimes it'll be slow, sometimes it'll go faster. It's mostly about whatever your medical team says is healthy. I'm happy with my rate: I won't be able to avoid loose skin entirely, but I'm hoping to minimize it!

Congrats! I am glad you are doing well overall. Take it day to day, my team told us there is no way we would hit fluid goals right out of surgery but we should be there within a week. Just keep pushing, that's all you can do. Good luck! PS: I am from MD too (Baltimore) Where are you located. (If you care to share) -
Only 22lbs lost 2 months post op - what is happening?
catwoman7 replied to Zerofuckstogive70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you're fine. First of all, you're at a lower weight than a lot of us are, so you're not going to see the huge drops that someone over 300 or 400 lbs is going to see. that said, I was over 300 lbs - and I'd lost 28 lbs when I was eight weeks out, so it wasn't much more than you - and I started out WAY heavier... -
Pre-op diet day 4, Zero appetite?
catwoman7 replied to tristynftw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my diet was all liquid plus four protein shakes a day, so first of all, consider yourself lucky that you can have a meal! secondly, since your eating very few carbs, your body is likely in ketosis. It usually happens after three or four days of ultra-low carb eating. It was that way with the all-liquid diet, too - after about four days, it got easier because I wasn't so ravishingly hungry. -

We really understand here, because we're going through the same things. You've just been through major surgery which has changed your way of life, and tears are an entirely normal reaction to that. Just remember to treat yourself kindly with lots of loving tolerance, and remember that this is all temporary. A few weeks from now you'll feel like a whole new woman, I practically guarantee. -

Only 22lbs lost 2 months post op - what is happening?
Zerofuckstogive70 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG I am 8 weeks post op and 22 pounds down and I’m so confused. Shouldn’t I have lost more weight by now? I’ve been exercising and working with a personal trainer everyday for the last 3 weeks. I’m really unsure if I’ve stalled or if the sleeve has failed or if I’m right on track. So frustrating. Please help. -
Working out and eating too much
catwoman7 replied to MaureenA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm definitely hungrier when I've been doing intense exercise - and Crossfit is intense! Your body is burning up a ton of calories with that - so you'll have to find the balance where your body is getting what it needs - and you continue to lose weight. I agree with the person who suggested you have a chat with your dietitian. I don't think 1600-1700/cal a day for someone doing CrossFit 4x a week is too much, though. Are you still losing weight? If so, this may not be a problem. But talk with your dietitian. -

I had my op 15 Sept - and was doing so well for the first 3 months. Weight loss slowed in Dec and on a stall since Jan. I started at 93Kg - and sat at 73Kg. So lost around 44lbs. I have at least another 10Kg to go - but am also worried about the length. Feel like it just stopped working. Other seems to have lost double and who started at same weight so a bit disheartened ☹️Will need to see dietician. -

Bypass revision after sleeve? 8 years post op Sleeve
Tufflaw replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was sleeved in Dec. 2016 and did extremely well at first - I dropped about 120 lbs in about 6 months, reaching my goal weight. I had some personal/professional issues including losing my job, starting and losing my business, health issues with my kids, etc. and I slacked off and just started eating like crap again and gained almost all the weight back. I had GERD both before and after the surgery but was maintaining it with esomeprazole. I got the revision to bypass in Nov, 2021 and as of today am down a little over 65 lbs. and the GERD is gone. As for your questions: 1) Your reasons for conversion from the sleeve to bypass. - My doctor said I was eligible for a second surgery and that he needed to do an endoscopy to see if the sleeve was dilatated (enlarged). If it was, I could resleeve or switch to bypass. If it wasn't, I'd have to go with bypass. They checked and it was enlarged so I could get either one but he recommended the bypass due to the GERD and potential future complications with long term use of the medication or effects to my esophagus from the GERD. 2) What was the post op period like compared with sleeve? - About the same. I think I felt a little worse right after the surgery because it was longer. My sleeve surgery was 26 minutes, the bypass was about 3 hours. It was supposed to be a little over an hour but there was an issue with one of the stapling devices not being able to reach a certain area so the doctor had to suture by hand which took longer. I believe I felt much groggier and a little more nauseous, but after the first day it was pretty much the same as the first time. 3) What is the best and worst part of having the bypass? - Best part is losing weight again and feeling healthier. Worst part was having to go through the surgery again due to my own screw up. Also this time they put a drain in my stomach for a week which wasn't fun. 4) Any dumping issues? - Not even once. -
If you had had surgery in my program, and we assume you're a woman, you would've been recommended to go from 1200/day to 1600/day at the 6-month mark. And that's with mild, 30 min a day, exercise. They do this to make sure your metabolism doesn't get used to living on nothing (the Harvard Health Biggest Loser Study does confirm our metabolism has the ability to get a lot more efficient, aka able to live on little). So maybe you're doing it exactly right! Edit: I eat on average 2600-2800 a day with daily light exercise + lifting and HIIT training 2-3x week on top of that, and I'm adding to the higher end of that right now because I don't want to lose anymore. Just to give some perspective.

I definitely understand how you feel my friends and family eat regular foods around me and it makes me sad sometimes because i have to be on liquid diet for 2 weeks but just know eventually you will get to eat the same things they eat . Keep trying to find food that you can. Tolerate that make you full that’s what i was told certain light food might not fill you up but meat and cheese dishes might or something similar . So keep trying until you find something and know that we all are going through the same thing it’s very difficult but it’s so worth it. -
Hi all, I’m six months post VSG and 85 pounds down. I started working out (CrossFit 4x a week) about three weeks ago and find myself STARVING during the day and eating too much (about 1600-1700 calories) not sure if anyone else has had a similar experience when starting exercise. Lmk!

Isn’t that weird? I find it very strange. My dr said I should be on soups until next week, then soft Solids. I swear, I’ve been told 2 different not things by my dr. Office. I made puréed chili and cheese, was able to sip 6 oz, and finally felt full. That felt amazing. -

Hello, any veterens around?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
No mostly just GERD. I never made it to my goal weight with the band, so hoping to lose more weight with the revision. I just had my first appointment about a month ago to start the process, and I have one more visit with the dietician next week and then I see the surgeon for a pre op visit and I'll get my date then. We're thinking it might work out for the end of April tho.
