Anyone Else Having Problems With Milk?
Squisha replied to PiggyPantsPaige's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 months now, i can do cheese and yogurt with no problem, but Tuesday was the 1st time i drank milk and didn't have to run to the bathroom, I just kept trying it every few weeks just a little at a time. Tuesday i was able to drink 1 cup of skim. -
I had a full Bypass back in September. I am only able to eat less than 1/4 cup of food and that is pushing it. The only time I can get to that much is if I eat yogurt. For some reason my grouch pouch makes more room for yogurt. I would definitely check with your doctor. I am not familiar with how much room you should have in the mini bypass vs. a regular bypass but if you are worried, I would certainly follow up with your team. Good luck!

Hey everyone. Ill be starting Mushies and soft foods in 2 weeks and I wanted to know what you all think. My doctor has me roomed applesauce, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, even finely chopped eggs.. Would you consider chilli to be part of this phase?
-
Good! I have not really felt sensation of hunger but more tired of having little options so that is probably why the short temper. I go to doctor on 6th and can't wait hoping u can move to soft foods. Yogurt, chicken broth protein, and isopure you can only have so much if and in variety. Any suggestions on what you all ate during the full liquid stage? Thank you all for responding.

Anyone from Pittsburgh?
claddagh66 replied to claddagh66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your so funny. Yep I can only imagine! Oh the simplest of things...Never taste so good I do have a shaker ball cup. It's meant for the shakes cause I drink instant Breakfast often since I'm not a breakfast eater. If I get up at like 5am I usually have s cup or 3 of coffee, a yogurt or oatmeal around 1030ish and don't actually eat lunch till around 230ish. I'm just not quick to start eating. Actually upsets my stomach if I do. May have something to do with the hiatal hernia I'm not sure but I've never been a breakfast or should I say morning eater. I'm not a morning person period! Lol Right now I'm on synthroid for my high scores in my thyroid levels. We're supposed to be .04-.40 and I'm at 25.7! I'm way off. So I'm taking that and Vitamin D since I'm way low on that too, methacarbamol (muscle relaxer) tylenol#3 and Motrin coated with malox all for my neck and back. I have a bunch of herniated discs in my lower back and neck. I also have a broken bone in my foot right now I'm getting doctored for and a severed tendon there too. My last test is the stress test and they will have to do it in a bed since I can't wak/run the treadmill like they need. They'll just give me an injection to induce my heart level. Last thing I gotta do So back to the Vitamins. I take D, calcium, multi and I think that's it. I will ask what they require. Did you get any of the Biotin for hair (yes I know your a guy lol) and also did you get the miralax and gas ex tongue melts? -
Just had three sample cups at Menchies frozen yogurt( I'm 5 WLS post op) and not sure how to track it. It was very tasty but did not need my own serving

plain nonfat green Yogurt, sometimes I mix with sugar free jello, cottage cheese (I put in a little pineapple juice to make it taste better), eggs! including hard boiled, over easy, omelette, and scrambled. snack pack sugar free chocolate pudding, tomato soup, ricotta cheese and jello (make sugar free jello and just when it is starting to set, put in blender with 16 oz of low fat ricotta cheese and blend--put in container(s)--great treat!!!)

Yesterday was the big day! I can't believe it is behind me now. I'm quite sore, but already so much better today than yesterday. Yesterday my left shoulder was my worst complaint (as I've heard many times and thought I was prepared for). Felt like someone had vice grips on my trapezoid muscle! Man, it really hurt. Today it is hardly anything though. My tummy is pretty sore today. I just took off my bandages...that left me a little weak in the knees, I must say (I'm kinda wimpy in that area). I really felt like I was going to pass out, so I put off my shower till after my 2nd protein shake thinking that I might feel a little stronger. I walked the house yesterday a lot to help the gas. It must have worked because I feel the gas is 95% gone. I know tomorrow will be a better day than today. Hard to get 64 ozs. of liquid in, especially with all the napping I'm doing. Yesterday I really fell short - today is going better. I just had about 1/3 of a frozen Yoplait "Whips" yogurt...it really tasted good (saw a commercial for freezing them). I highly recommend them for a little treat. I kinda felt like I needed the sugar as I literally had no calories yesterday and thought that might help with my energy for a shower along with my 2nd protein shake. I lost of total of 16 pounds on my 2 week preop. I'm sure I won't be losing much more this first month. I'm going to focus on healing and getting my protein in and I really don't care about the scale at this point. I'm having reality checks like, "I can't believe I actually went through with this!" I feel so optimistic...like it all makes so much sense. I know I made the right choice. Even after reading that recent post on LBT (the night before my surgery) about the woman who died from complications. I'm sure there is a lot to that story and we don't know all the facts. I just focused on the facts that I knew for me...I had done my research, knew the facts about lap band surgery and stayed focused on my goal. Looking forward to my progress and getting through the next month of healing so the real party can begin. Thanks to all who post on here for getting me through this decision!!!:tt2:

Sleeved Monday, 3/12/18 & struggling!
logicwand replied to gkhtoys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Couldn't take my meds either. It was at the point where I would hate yogurt and pudding for the rest of my life if I continued to mix my meds in them. Doctor said it was okay to forgo the gallbladder medicine. I called my shrink to get my usual prescription in an orally dissolvable tablet. My insurance didn't cover it and they wanted $800 for a month's supply. I'm off two meds so far until I can swallow tablets. I've got 2.5 weeks to go. It's insane. I hear you!! Gas X strips were useless on me too! Started taking children's dose of milk of magnesia twice a day and my cramping and bloating finally went away in about two days. Wasn't getting enough water in either. I started drinking out of a 24 oz tumbler with a straw (big no no) and found that I drink my crystal light water like it's Diet Coke. LOL For some reason the tumbler and straw have helped me reached my water goals. I didn't think it would be this difficult. Once I think I have something down, I need to figure something else out. Everything feels so up in the air - Well, I'll try this, and ok, let's see what happens if I do this..nope, gotta try something else. It's such new ground and there's no way for us to predict how our bodies will react to anything right now. It's very frustrating when at the same time we need to follow guidelines from the surgeon. -

Calories - Getting Them In Without Guilt
Imabeskinny posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started regular foods last week and I am struggling with eating all of my recommended calories (1000-1200/day). Here is a sample of my diet (710ish total calories): Breakfast: Protein shake (160 calories) Snack: cheese Stick (60 Calories) Lunch: Turkey and Cheese Stick (160 calories) Snack: Yogurt (80 calories) Dinner: Chili or Fish (250) Snack: Beef Jerky (80) If I eat more than this, I freak out and think I am overeating. Today I was at an offsite meeting and had a 1/4 of a bagel as a snack and a Fresco chicken taco from Taco Bell, I felt so guilty about it because it wasn't on 'the plan.' Does anyone else do this to themselves? I am also currently in a stall, I know it will pass, but it certainly doesn't help with my feelings about thinking I am overeating! *Sigh* I am also afraid to try new things and am trying to just stick with protein rich things...I am driving myself crazy with the same food all the time though. Interested in your feedback! -
One Week post op appointment and soft foods
califmomto4 replied to Princess Sarah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had any problems with foid but I've played it safe! I went from liquid to puree. I stuck with greek yogurt, tuna fish, occasional refried Beans. When I went to "soft" foods...I ate a lot if fish. -
One Week post op appointment and soft foods
Princess Sarah posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor was very happy with my progress so far and said that I can start exercising and driving now. Very happy about the driving part because my husbands driving scares the crap out of me! Does anybody have recommendations on the first soft foods to try such as yogurt, soup, or cheeses? I'm a little worried about how my stomach is going to react but also really excited to eat food! How were some of anyone else's first soft food experiences? -
One Week post op appointment and soft foods
terry1118 replied to Princess Sarah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Foods I tolerate well are greek yogurt, tilapia, salmon, scrambled eggs, pea soup w/ham, chili, cheese, meatballs if they're moist, shrimp, chowder, hummus, and Peanut Butter. Fish has been my 'safe' food - it rarely bothers me. Foods that make me painfully sick are tuna (three miserable times - I'm giving it up for a while), pot roast chopped in the food processor and moistened w/broth, wonton soup, re-heated anything, and pills bigger than a small tablet. Everyone is very very different. Introduce new foods slowly, small bites and chew-chew-chew, and learn to recognize when to stop. One last little bite will mean the difference between satisfied and suffering. Always follow your own doctor's advice. We all can give advice but your doctor knows YOU better than we do. :-) -
Post op issues
TheDude84023 replied to TheDude84023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its been a pretty rough ride but I will give a quick rundown on the turn of events.(note that I am feeling much better now) Days 1 - 5: I was unable to take down more than 8 oz of fluids per day. Had to even be put on a feeding tube to try to force some down. I was extremely tight(inflamed). During this time whatever I consumed would come out in my sleep. Another issue I had was hypersalivation which prevented me from sleeping at all and extreme dehydration. Day 6: At this point band rejection had me very scared but all of the sudden in the mid after noon of day 6 it felt like a bathtub cork was pulled in my stomach and all of my fluids drained into the intestines. So what I am thinking is the anesthesia still partly had my stomach shut down where it would not pump the contents of my stomach into my intestines. Magically my stomach started working with fluids and my inflammation around the band started going down dramatically. A few hours later my stomach started to get really tight as I was heading to town. Again I started thinking "great now it'll quit working" but after I made it over the mountain pass 8,600ft or so the tension eased. Interesting thing is when this happened I was starving! So I had my first bit of solid food(jello). Since that point I've been working broth and yogurt. I've had my ups and downs but I feel 100 times better than I did the first few days. The only issue I've really had sense was I am having issues with night coughing. Overall its been a 1 day at a time recovery. I've lost more weight than I wanted to just short of time out of post op but I'll live. -
Peanut butter + plain greek yogurt + honey = happy bandster!

Surgery Scheduled For April 12Th!
NWgirl replied to Passionatehrt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jay Robb is usually said to be the best tasting whey Protein. I stocked up on a lot of broths before my surgery, and drank a minimal amount of them. I also stocked up on yogurt, which I was not able to eat fast enough. Definitely try the sugar free Jello pudding cups, they have some nice flavors. Make sure you have a heating pad and adult liquid tylenol. -
When Did You Start Protein Drinks
NYCMom41 replied to dar36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started on protein shakes two days after I was banded. Although, I've been cleared to start regular solid foods as of last week, I am still drinking one protein shake for breakfast. I am tired of eating eggs, don't like yogurt or cottage cheese and have come to actually enjoy the shake. It keeps me feeling fuller and there are so many different ways to prepare a protein shake you can't get bored. -
It is working, what is working for me!!!
CruiseGirl2011 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, banded on 07/14 and am now down 19 lbs!!! I'm tired of messing with the ticker so will go with the old fashioned way. Just wanted to let you know what is working for me. Am getting close to Onderland! I had my first fill on 08/15, which was 5 CC's -- the doc came in and said, you ready to turn this thing on??? Since I was down 14 since banding, that was very exciting. I can feel restriction and go back for a second fill in two weeks from that date which will be 08/29. What do I do during the day? Breakfast shake -- have fallen in love with Synthra vanilla Bean and Fuzzy Navel (Peach), I mix with ice, splenda, and benefiber, and fruit. I also have JD Robb's chocolate power, it is a light chocolate taste and wonderful. Why did it take me this long to figure this out?? Snack -- either Greek Yogurt with fruit or cottage cheese with fruit or salsa lunch -- lunch recipe from Eating for Life Snack -- another Protein shake, I will blend it all up without the Protein powder, don't mix until ready to drink dinner -- dinner recipe from Eating for Life How do I handle "cold things" during the day? I am extremely busy in my job, so I bought a cute cooler bag at Target, my actual bag is a bit larger that this: Snacks and lunch in and they stay cold all day, I go from floor to floor for meetings. I do have to travel some and on those days generally take a shaker bottle and protein powder and mix as needed. I am going to the gum several (3 - 4) days a week, even am up there at 5 a.m., but I am succeeding!! Will keep you folks posted. -
Am on day 18 today 6/23/13 and was upgraded to purée on 6/20. I thought that I would love the upgrade but the thought of cooking or making something soft and end up eating two or three spoon is tiring for me. So, I'm sticking with my pudding, yogurt and protein shake especially at work. I tried ice cream at work today out of greed I guess and it just came back up when I'm almost at the last spoon. Any ideas on something interesting that I can make/cook without filling the whole pot? By the way, I'm not impressed with the amount of weight that I have lost so far. Only 10 lbs from my surgery weight on my 2nd week. My coworkers are noticing the inches lost but I'm not. I still look the same even though I walk before lunch and after work. Any words of encouragements? Thanks all for listening.

I'm taking the Greek yogurt and light&fit yogurt.
