SO Tired of Protein Drinks!
mrs w replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Google best Greek yogurt for weight loss. There's a website, I think "eat this" or something. It compares Greek yogurt and tells you which ones to choose and which to avoid. I've never come across a flavored Greek yogurt that doesn't have a very high sugar content. I'm planning to try doing the plain Greek and adding protein powder to add some flavor and get in more protein. Just wanted to mention not all Greek yogurts are made the same so very important to read the labels. -

Greek yogurt has more protein than regular yogurt. I like Dannon Light & Fit Greek. Just read labels. -

I want to try Greek yogurt. How is it different than regular yogurt? Are there sugar free flavored types I can try with adding my own unflavored protein powder? Thanks for any input. -
Updates on December 2015 Surgeries
Mrs_B_12/16/15 replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi ladies, I'm following your post I had surgery on 12/16 as well and was having a hard time getting in fluids also but I've realized I can drink about 8 Oz in 15 minutes which helps me get closer to the goal. I never received a drain so I don't know if there's a difference there or not but I do have kids also 1,5, and 7 and understand how hard alot of things are. I can't seem to get all of my protein shakes in because they taste weird but I am having Sf popsicles, sf pudding, eggs with Lf cheese, soup, Powerade zero, yogurt, instant mashed potatoes, and tuna which all give me that feeling of actually eating. I also had Pinto beans and cheese from Taco bell today and omg it was the best, although I could only eat about half but it's good protein. -

@@idahoteacher I was a teacher for 18 years I now work at our regional education service center. I support school districts software, other computer support, and PEIMS. I love my job. I was on Clear liquids for 2 weeks then liquids, including yogurt, Protein shakes for two more weeks. I cheated a little at 3 weeks but I did not want to hurt my stomach where it was stapled. Once I started on mashed potatoes and Beans, I had little bites of other food here and there, but soft foods, not meat. I would just be really careful and follow your doctors suggestions. Good luck to you!!!! -
Do You Eat Breakfast? What Do You Have?
JustWatchMe replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I often have reheated leftover meat from the night before. Lately I've been having hard boiled eggs. I like cheese sticks for a grab and go. Scrambled eggs are always getting stuck these days. Why hard boiled doesn't, who knows? Greek yogurt with slivered almonds is also good. -

I always have Greek yogurt with berries or a protein shake for breakfast. I like to begin with protein to help me meet my daily intake goal. -
Do You Eat Breakfast? What Do You Have?

Some good ideas here, and a lot of breakfast eaters! Looks like eggs and Greek yogurt are staples for many of us. Bars and shakes are great, too, especially on busy weekdays. I love the idea of seasoned pre-cooked chicken breast because it’s so easy – perfect for the morning! – and also sometimes it’s hard to get chicken breast to be tasty. Thanks for the answers, and keep them coming! -
Any 12/21/15 sleevers: How are you doing?
NewLeaf15 replied to mabarbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What soups are you eating the isopure with? I tried chicken and vegetable broth with unjury unflavored Protein Powder (not Isopure). It The Isopure that I have is the drink protein and not the powder. It's 40 grams of protein in one bottle. I actually just returned from the supermarket and bought the Oikos Triple Zero yogurt (zero sugar, zero fat, zero artificial sweeteners); it's pretty good. -
Any 12/21/15 sleevers: How are you doing?
NewLeaf15 replied to mabarbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 21st as well. I was sent home with pain medication but I haven't taken any because I haven't felt any severe pain to truly take it. This has been an honest learning process. I tried placing the Protein in the Soups and it was awful. I think I wasn't mixing it right, then I tried to add it to plain yogurt and it was awful as well. I finally bought the Isopure Zero Carb ready to drink protein and it has been the best thing to get my protein in. The Water fluids have been a bit hard to get down. I agree with you on the popsicles.. I bit a piece and it didn't fully go down as liquid and it caused awful pain so now i'm careful. I had posted earlier that I've been able to drink more than I thought without any discomfort (except water), but at times the pain does kick in when it's saying I'm drinking too fast. -
I'm not sure if I'm doing this right... help needed
NewLeaf15 replied to NewLeaf15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your response! I seriously thought I was doing something wrong because I was able to drink more than I thought I could tolerate. I'm trying my best to get in my regular fluids but protein hasn't been an issue. Well I started off with adding unjury to cream Soups and I couldn't get the taste down my throat, I tried in the yogurt as well, it wasn't working for me. I went to GNC and bought the ready to Isopure Zero Carb drinks that has 40 grams of protein so it's easier. Yes, you're right, everyone's journey is different. Thank you for clarifying I'm doing fine -

Hang in there. My surgery is December 28.What is different is my doctor prescribed a soft foods ( no sugar kind of pre op diet.I can have cottage cheese, yogurt, protein drinks and one protein with salad for dinner. Now since my surgery is on December 28 ... Countdown 2 days away.I am going to flush my system out starting this evening.2 to 3 bottles of citrate of magnesia ,Miralax and lemon tea to ensure my bowels are flushed out and clean for surgery.I am also going to get " Hibiclens "antiseptic wash and bathe/shower with it and use in hospital.Too many bacteria in hospitals....germaphobe here. The day before is all liquids...this is important...very important...We are both on our journey...,yahoo!!! -
If you will share a little more specific details and you will get much better advice!! How far out post-op are you? What are you eating for Protein and meals now? Are you taking a PPI? Stomach acid issues can be common the first few months... and can cause a rumbling gnawing feeling that feels just like intense hunger. Might be worth checking out if you aren't already taking Omeprazole or some other PPI. As for overeating... weighing your food can stop that. It takes very little to make the stomach full now... Make sure you aren't just feeding your mouth! For Protein shakes, you may have to try several different types to find one you can tolerate. I love the Syntrax Nectars because they come in fruit flavors that mix well with Water... much lighter than the typical chocolate/vanilla options. Isopure makes a ready to drink clear Protein Drink with 40 g protein per bottle. Premier Protein in chocolate is one of the most highly recommended as tasting good and not being gag-inducing. I don't know what stage you are food wise, but if you are past purees get your protein from Scrambled eggs, chicken/tuna salad, fish, lean meats, poultry, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. The protein should be the focus of every meal and snack right now.

Hello Ashley, I had surgery the same day. I am off my pain meds at home, I took only one dose. I have been walking and resting. How long do you have to do the spirometer for? I am eating a full liquid diet until 2 weeks post-op. I am doing best with yogurt, protein added cream soups and premier protein shakes. I love decaf tea, and sugar free tropical Popsicles. I feel mainly tired and I do fine with portion that are 6oz. Looking forward to our journeys together.

Nucific Bio X4 is a supplement that many of you might be interested in. At 39.95, i think it is possibly a best buy for the ingredients that it contains and the health benefits that it offers. Nucific's Bio X4 contains 4 billion colony forming units of probiotic bacteria in every capsule, it contains 90 capsules in the container, and it has five unique probiotic strains: Laxtobacillus Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Rhamnosus, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Bifidobacterium Lactis and Bifidobacterium Animalis. It doesn't stop there, Nucific's Bio X4 also offers a digestive enzyme blend with Bromelain, Amylase (from aspergilus oryzae) and Lipase (from rhizopus oryzae). It also contains a weight management and cravings control blend with green tea extract 50% EGCG and Caralluma Fimbriata root extract. Basically what you get from Nucific's Bio X4 is not just digestive and immune support but also help to manage your weight or to lose some weight, helping you with boosting your metabolism and also with supressing your appetite. Quality probiotic bacteria with digestive enzymes means great things for the digestive system. The probiotic bacteria in Nucific's Bio X4 are some of the most researched probiotics out there. Lactobacillus Acidophilus is one of the most healthy and popular probiotic bacterium strain used in supplements. Lactobacillus Acidophilus has been found to help with vaginal infections, with irritable bowel syndrome, cholesterol, lactose digestion, bloating, diarrhea and more. I would advise for anyone, to consult a medic before using a probiotic supplement because bacteria aren't healthy for everyone and some people should avoid using them, or using specific strains that can cause problems for unhealthy people, although in general probiotic supplements are very healthy and safe. Definitely consult a medic if it's your first time using a probiotic supplement. Probiotic bacteria can improve the immune response and fight to treat/prevent bacterial infections and to improve the processing of food and nutrient extraction/absorption. Also, since probiotic bacteria can multiply quite fast, you don't actually need that many CFUs. They use binary fussion to produce more bacteria. If you are interested in Bio X4, visit: http://www.freetrialsusa.com/nucific-bio-x4-reviews/. Also remember that you get a money-back guarantee that lasts 90 days. You can also get probiotic bacteria from foods : pickles, sauerkraut, sausages, yogurt, etc.

I am also new to the LapBand. I got my Dec16. My full feeling has been up and down. It has taken me to learn when enough is enough. Like others I have symptoms, when I am full or just past I get hiccups and slight tightness in my upper stomach. I have gone past that and its always been eating too fast (yogurt or apple sauce) I was also feeling brave and had eggs which was on my 2nd week diet list. The onset of the symptoms are almost like my stomach is choking. I instantly get a very strong discomfort then extreme tightening of my stomach to the point where I can feel the pain in my back and shoulders. This leads to almost always almost or actually throwing up. My only advice that has worked for me when getting to that point was to drink Water. There is no liquid where the food is and its much more painful, for me at least. I've decided to keep my meals much smaller and to train myself slow down. I am then able to control how my body reacts to food, esescially during this healing phase of my LB journey.

SO Tired of Protein Drinks!

In the last couple of weeks I discovered adding a scoop of protein powder to plain greek yogurt. 1/2 cup has 12 grams protein and then whatever amount your protein powder has. I love it and have a few different varieties that I make and have it everyday for lunch! -

SO Tired of Protein Drinks!

@@Ryan TN Someone here had mentioned Lifefair milk which had 13g of protein per cup. it's more expensive but I tried it. I liked it. So maybe I'll use that. I already eat greek yogurt (but 1/4 c has only 4 grams of protein). As I can eat more, i'll be able to get more protein in, other than the drinks or shakes. I do have SF caramel and gingerbread flavoring, and add protein to my carnation instant breakfast powder, and ice; so i do make my own shakes already. Still so tired of them. I did it for ten days prior to surgery too, so 34 days now.... -
I used to use the SparkPeople app and web site. It has the nutritional values for TONS of foods already loaded into it, so basically you just search for the food you are eating, enter how much of it you ate, and it does the rest. It also has an awesome recipe calculator, so you can enter all your ingredients and what amounts you use in your recipe, and it does all the math for you. Another nice feature was that you could create food "groups" so say you ate the same thing for lunch a lot, like greek yogurt with granola. Instead of having to enter the greek yogurt and granola separately every time, you could save them as a "group" and add them both at once.

Looking for someone to connect with after surgery
appletree replied to jlvolkma's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Regarding my diet, I started with the fluids mostly water and one 2 ounces of applejuice with water, but stopped that one week later and went to only water, I do not like taste of fake sugar, unjury chicken protein, after 2 weeks I would cook 2 chicken in crockpot take all parts without fat an skin and grounded it up in machine, added water and froze it in ice cub in freezer, For breakfast I would do mostly greek yogurt with a tiny tiny bit of low sugar jelly, for lunch and dinner chicken sometimes a little store bought applesauce no added sugar, it came in a big jar, so I also froze the rest in icecubs, works perfect! sugar popsicles about 2-4 day, now down to 1 a day, do not like the taste of sorbitol. Yesterday approved to go to soft diet, again cooked 2 whole chickens in crockpot and froze bags of 2 ounces, I work from a home office, but if I do not plan ahead regarding protein and foods it would not work for me -
Difference between Liquid and Purée
Kindle replied to wwboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just use a regular metal strainer. I found the mesh/woven style worked better than the plastic ones with holes in them. Should be able to pick up in any Walmart or even grocery store. And yes, yogurt is a funny thing.. We were encouraged to start the drinkable yogurts like Siggis and Kefir on day 4, mostly for the Probiotics, but weren't OK'd for the thicker Greek yogurt until purees 3 weeks out. I guess if you added milk to Greek yogurt it would become a drinkable liquid. -
Difference between Liquid and Purée
wwboy replied to wwboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks that's helpful. What do you use to strain them? I'm using a Vitamin to make tomato soup and the resulting liquid is very very smooth...like Campbell's canned soup. And they served this to me in the hospital on day 2. But while yogurt is on my list for the liquid stage, there's no way it would go through a strainer...or be poured.
