BMI Drops below 35 day of surgery?
kimberb replied to Calizzer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might want to ask your surgical team about what your weight was on day of surgery if you really want to know. I'm pretty sure they had to weigh you for anesthesia reasons. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App -
Newbie! Went to my first appointment today
Jellybean8 replied to JuniperBug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's pretty cool that we're similar. I also have a lot more appointments to go to. I have to do their 6 month weight loss course before i qualify for insurance. So I'm thinking august 2017. A long way out. Ugh, I hope I don't gain even more weight by then. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Here in Ontario it's covered by our government insurance plan but we have to go thru a bariatric program that consists of meetings and classes with nutritionist, social workers, psychiatrists, doctors and nurses before even meeting with the surgeon to get the final ok. Could take up to a year So I'm looking at early October at the latest...and I know exactly where you're coming from...really hoping I don't gain more between now and then. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App Yeah Taiwans a little backwards. My surgeon was basically like, yep let's go. But you need to do this rigamorole if you wan insurance to pay and oh I do. I also have a chance to get a few grand knocked off the price if I agree to help advertise a specific brand of surgical equipment. I think it's just letting them use my photos. I'm a little torn. Privacy is important to me to an extent but so is affordability. I'm also worried about gaining more weight before now and then. Maybe we can be surgery buddies if we have similar dates. Sounds good would be nice to have somebody to talk to going thru the same things..... Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

Appt all set up for my Pre-Op program!
Montana Gal replied to laurak814's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it were my decision, I would have it done in the spring. I had my surgery in February, and was glad I could get some weight off by spring and good weather. Sounds like a busy time in your house, maybe you could ask a friend to take your son to a couple of meets during your first post op week. I didn't have any help when I got home from the hospital and did fine, but I also don't have children. Best of luck with your decision, you will do great! -
Getting sleeved October 25th!
Riva replied to anm1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 7.19.16 i lost 20 lbs prior to surgery. I started eating smaller portions 5x a day. Each meal was 15 carbs our less carb master yogurt, premier shakes 1-2x a day. And a shake is a meal. It really helps with the liquid diet prior to surgery. My starting weight was 283 at surgery day it was 263 and current weight is 235 Good luck! Hello from Chicago, 38 year old mother of 3. I feel like I am the biggest person after reading all the post, which they are very helpful and now I don't feel like I am alone. I started this journey in April, but through my insurance United Healthcare. I have to be on a 6 month weight loss program. I started at 444lbs (prob the only place I will be totally honest on that) since then I am currently 379lbs as of this morning. I have done really well on my own. I haven't told people other then my husband and sister, I don't want people's opinions either way. I picked November 23rd cuz I am not a fan of thanksgiving and I don't have to go my mother n laws house this year, woohoo on that. But I truly am concerned of the preop prep, the liquid diet wondering if I actually can do that. I am not worried about the surgery, I have had 4 c-sections. Looking for maybe a buddy, friend who is getting ready too for the pre-op liquid diet. Any advice. Any before and after pics. Thx for reading all this. Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

Hey Rman and Gunner I too freaked out when I was finally approved for the band. I was really trying hard to be good, but then I would convince myself to go ahead and eat cause I won't be able to do it later. I lost 2 lbs in four weeks. But once I had surgery I was good as gold and didn't cheat once. I'm now down 19 lbs since my 2 day pre op diet. Gunner - Back in 2005 I was approved for Gastric Bypass but not the lap band. I was really disappointed and decided I wasn't going to let a denial get me down. I lost 40 lbs, took me about 9 months and kept it off for about a year. Slowly started gaining it back until I had gained all but 10 lbs back. I have never had a difficult time losing weight, just keeping it off.

yes it is- but the feeling is also normal. How you deal with it now, may show your willingness to follow through after the surgery. The band is only a tool- you have to use it as only part of your weight loss plan. Take a deep breath and start working on the habits you will need post surgery- the chewing, the exercise,at least X amt of protein/day, only X specific snacks/day, - :nono:DO IT NOW!!! It will take your focus from what you are giving up (with the operation- stuffing yourself) and focus on what you will gain (more control). You will start exercising (walking) by day 2, so get started Consider starting the Pre-op diet early; Or approach it in stages. i did 1-2 meals a day from my pre-op diet, before I had to. Get the products and any equipment you will need (protein powder, chewable/liquid meds and vitamins, magic bullet etc) set up so they are easily accessible when you get home. You won't drive or go shopping on the way home,or for a few days post surgery. You have a lot to do before the surgery- no time to waste focusing on what you think you 'll miss. BTW, you will eventually be able to eat most items you liked before the surgery-just a lot less.

I know exactly how you feel belive me I do. I am going in for surgery on June 11th and Like you I had gained weight from when I first went in to see the dr (march) till my visit where they go over all your pre op test (May 13th , my birthday) I gained 9 pounds and I felt like such an idiot. You would of thought that from the time I knew I wanted the surgery till the surgery I woul dhave started watching my weight , no not me I ate more than ever i couldnt control myself. My wife even said to me one night that I shouldnt get the surgery because she said if you cant control yourself now how are you going to do it after the surgery and I didnt have a answer for her. Than My mom who was very supportive of the whole surgery thing said to me one day I see you are eating alot do you think this surgery is rerally for you maybe you should cancel the surgery. To make a long story short my doctor put me on the pre op diet on May 17th and I wasent aware of this till may 14th, I was shocked I only though the pre op diet was suppose to be 2 weeks. Anyway Since i started the pre op diet Ihave lost 20 lbs and yes it was hard the first 4-5 days but after that you dont even feel hugry anymore. So my point is dont worry about gaining a little weight and starting to diet before hand when the times comes to do it you will do it if you want it that bad. I did. If you would have asked me 3 months ago if i could do a diiet like that i would have said no way but the fact of the matter is I want this really bad and I will do whatever it takes to achive this and I know you will too so dont be so hard on yourself and good luck with the surgery and teh pre op diet believ me its not that bad the first 4 days suck and than its really easy

Well, I have decided to take some of your advice and set mini goals for myself. My first one was to be able to use wii fit (which has a weight limit of 330 pounds) My second one was to be under 300 pounds! This morning I was 295.2!!! My next mini goal is to wear size 20 old navy jeans and to weigh less than my fiance (he's 265). So another 30 pounds and I *should* meet both of these (unsure about the pants, but I am currently wearing a good fitting/on the loose side 22....

So tonight I decided it was time to go do some shopping (which I absolutely hate). All of my clothes are getting a bit big and baggy. So I ran into JC Penny's and started walking over to the area where I normally shop. They have rearranged the store a bit and I think I looked a little lost. One of the sales clerks asked if she could help me and she showed me where the womans section was. I started walking in that direction and she told me "I think you are going the wrong way". I said excuse me? and she said "you don't belong in that section". I thanked her and told her I had been working on losing weight and I wasn't sure what size I currently needed and started to walk back over to the womans section. She cut me off and told me "no, I'm not letting you go over there, you need to look in this section over here." I'm sure the look on my face was something like, you are crazy. She told me to shop in this other area and try to prove her wrong. The good news is I couldn't! I was ready to go back and give her a big hug.

Better question has anyone NOT needed skin surgery! Think age and how many times you have lost and gained weight plays a part in how your skin rebounds. Mine is horrible but I will plan some surgery to fix some and just use clothes to hide the rest. Wouldn't be heavy again to save the saggy skin.

i dont know what my problem is today. i want to cry. i want to scream. i want to be done with all these changes and the losing weight and the tummy tuck and the new boobs. i want this damn thing out and i want to pig out. i want to curl up and sleep for days. i want to feel good. i want to look good. i want to take the knife myself and cut of this apron of skin and fat hanging here. think its possible to take the fat and skin off my stomach and add it to my flat ass? why am i having such a break down today? my stomach/port area is really sore and my back hurts and i am just needing to vent/whine or something to people who understand. lord knows that my dh doesnt it, and the d stands for damn right now, or dumb, whichever. good lord i feel like losing my mind! right along with this other 30 damn lbs.

This happened to me when I was first banded (and I was stillon birth controll too). It has to do (or so I was told) with the fact that you have a huge amount of estrogen stored in the fat and as you loose weight that estrogen is released into the blood stream and sets of a cycle to start. Mine took about 9 months to stop this- there was no problem (I asked the doctore (ob/gyn) to check- it just stoped on its own one day! It really sucked- but now I have the first regular 28 day cycles of my life (since I ever cared in that respect anyways) and it is "normal flow and minimal pain- it is so great!

Stephanie840910 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok Im am at 215 and I'm 5'5 and I'm getting tired of people saying why are you doing it? You are not that big. All u need to do is exercise and it will come right off. But then I have people oh Stephanie you need to lose some weight.. I'm getting nervous and was having second thoughts like maybe I can lose it again by myself. But the reason I'm doing this surgery because I go up and down alot and I want this to be a big key to help me lose this weight. And the women In are 30s just wind up getting bigger.. I'm a single mom and I lost all of my energy anymore and I feel bad. I had alot happen to me this year also from losing the Love of my life. But I want my energy back I want to feel me again. I want a new me! I'm scared if there are complications of it Or if I get too too skinny because I'm no so big. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
I'm getting scared! January 18 is coming for gastric sleeve
Guest replied to Stephanie840910's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't worry about too skinny. If you read, your body with VSG loses about 60% of the overweight weight. So if let's say you are 215 and should weight 130, out of the 85 lb you would lose 51 with surgery (and yes it's a bit dif for everyone). Look up VSG weight loss calculator, not exact but roundabout loss. We all lose and gain, this is a tool to not eat as much and learn to eat better. Sent from my SM-G900H using the BariatricPal App -

Djmohr replied to ColleenErin1974's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome and congratulations on taking the steps to get healthy. What a great way to start your new year! I am an RNYer as well. I am almost 28 months post op. I lost all of my excess weight 152lbs in all. Almost half of me! I am much healthier than I have been in many many years. About to go through a second set of plastics in a couple of weeks and I am excited. I will be having a tummy tuck, breast lift with augmentation. I am ready now to get rid of all the loose skin! Best of luck to you on your upcoming surgery. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself. -

Ok, among a few other things i'm scared about one of the main ones is after surgery. I've read articles where patients who undergo gastric bypass don't report feeling as full as they think they should. With a smaller stomach you should feel full with 4 ounces of drink/food, correct? I'm scared i won't feel that feeling of being full and overeat again, not lose the weight and be back in the same boat. Anyone that can help me shed some light on this?
