Nervous about procedure
starr1202 replied to dravin77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make a list pros and cons and really think about the benefits of the surgery and If u have any health problems that surgery will benefit you. I also backed out of surgery a year prior to my surgery. I had never had surgery and was scared to death about it an now even though I had gotten a leak and 1 surgery turned into 4 I highly regret that I didn't have my surgery sooner. It was the best decision I made. 10 months post op and down 92 pounds. Good luck -

Mornings are HARD! Anyone else?
AlabamaGirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days post op and having a really hard time. I'm having what feels like extreme heartburn usually happens about 10 seconds after I drink but sometimes happens when I move suddenly (like get up or bend down). Called the doctor Friday he put me on Levsin for spasms and Nexium for acid reflux (which I never chronically had before maybe 4x a year tops). And when I wake up first thing in the morning the nausea is so bad I gag like I'm going to throw up. I take nausea medicine and it goes away within 15-20 min. I'm wondering, did anyone else have all of this? How long did it take to go away? I can't imagine living like this the rest of my life. Please help! -
How long are you missing work?
acopas replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know that it's going to suck. I'm more worried about dropping off my 3 y/o to daycare and having to climb that flight of stairs. I'm considering asking the director if I can't bring her in another entrance that is ground level that they don't typically utilize for pick-up/drop-off for the first week back. 19 year old me went through a laparoscopic gallbladder removal and was grocery shopping the same night and returned to a more physically demanding job than I have now within two-three days. When I had my first baby, I returned to work in a couple of weeks, so I think I'm either stupid or hard-headed. -
Any Bandsters in Oklahoma City?
AlottaBS replied to Fluffyhusker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in Oklahoma City and was banded 4/20/10 by Dr. Gornichec. Support group is 1st Sat of the month and 3rd Tuesday. I'm very pleased so far. Email me or send me a note if you want more info. Support group is at Integris Hospital on NW Expressway and I'd be more than happy to meet you there to show you the way to the group:thumbup: -
You don't need to weigh everyday, you will be discouraged, I weigh every two weeks. Also just bc you had this surgery doesn't mean your going to lose 10 pounds in a week every week. You didn't gain all your weight over night, your not going to lose it over night. Sw 256 Cw 185 Surgery 3/17/17

Still nauseous after 10 days plus no stamina
KrissySMD posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After 10 days I find myself very easily nauseous. I also have very little stamina. It's hard to get these walks in. I am SO thirsty that all I crave is Water. The last few days have been OK but still nauseous every day. Today is particularly bad because I also had a migraine. UGH! Anyone else having nausea and stamina issues this far out? -
Best Post-Op gift ideas?
pintsizedmallrat replied to B1984's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My biggest suggestion is to just be patient and supportive over the first few weeks...all those bodily changes can have some really, um...interesting effect on the mood! My mom got me a bunch of gift cards for clothes after my surgery and I appreciated it so much...after being overweight for years it was actually fun to go try and figure out what my personal style was when I wasn't as hamstrung by having to find the few items in the store that fit me. (19 months later I'm still trying to figure that out, but I'm learning!) Another suggestion for gifts might be a nice bariatric-friendly lunchbox or meal prep stuff for when he returns to work and starts eating a wider variety of foods. Having ways to transport your meals is important! -
I joined a gym and hit the treadmill for 35 minutes tonight...even broke a sweat and everything! :clap2: Feel so much better now than I did when I got off work. Other improvements are that I have just about weaned off of caffeine entirely. I used to drink 4-5 cups of coffee and 1-2 glasses of iced tea/day. Even the smallest amount has been upsetting my tummy this week and I found that I really just preferred plain old water. Once I get completely off, I will try my best to stay off. It just makes me hungrier. Now that I am past most of the pain and almost past most of the fatigue, I am really, really getting pumped about all of this....the 10# drop doesn't hurt either. This is looking like it's going to be a very, very good year. DH came to me this evening after work, when I was VERY tired, and asked what he could do to support me. I said, "Unload the dishwasher." He laughed and later watched me unload it. 10 minutes after that he was out for his poker game. I went to the gym. :ermm I mean, why did he bother asking? I was serious when I said that....all I really needed at that moment was a little help around the house. Pretty disappointing. He did say that he can already tell in my face that I've lost weight. Cool. So can I. Activity 35 mins on treadmill @ 2.8 mph Nutrition Total: 869 Fat:55 496 58% Carbs:35 111 13% Fiber:7 0 0% Protein:60 241 28%

I Really Want 2 B Able To Eat Anything
ThinknHealthy replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Fortunately I'm being successful eating pretty much anything I want. Yesterday we had family over and had sandwich stuff for everyone. I was the first in line and fixed myself half a ham&swiss sandwich and 4-5 cucumber slices and sat down at the table to eat. After all 10 had helped themselves and finished their big sandwiches and had already moved on to the next activity, I was finally finishing my last satisfying bite. You should be able to eat anything, just smaller portions, chew well, and take it slow. Remember how to enjoy your food again as it should be enjoyed. Don't deprive yourself. Try to find ways for the band to fit into your lifestyle. That's how you will be most successful. God Bless! -
banded 6 days ago and Im hungry!!
JanB23 replied to carebear99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I am 10 days post op and around day 6 -7 was craving food. I think it was just that i though i was hungry. I had a couple of days where i had extra serves of soup but, then i had no weight loss. Yesterday i kept myself busy all day and stuck to my shakes and soup and it was a much better day. I also keep diet jelly (jello) in the fridge to eat when i need something. Returning to work next week will help so i wont be sitting around thinking about food. It is also hard when you have to cook for the rest of the family. -
Are you scared to have weight loss surgery
Suzannesh replied to Suzannesh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey, These are all normal fears. Yes, you will be able to go out and have dinner and have a great time with your husband. You will be make better food choices and eating a whole lot less, but you will not feel deprived at all. Not everyone will lose their hair. I lost some hair and my hair was already thin. I got a cute wig, until my hair came back. He is the great part, I now have a natural curl in my hair that I never had before, and I love it! And it is a bit thicker now, so it wasn't all bad. I can't say I have sagging skin. Not everyone does. I had very little pain, and they managed it with pain medication. Take some Gas-X with you because some of the pain is caused by the pain of the gas that they put in your area so that can do the surgery. You will NOT really experience real hunger. Your biggest problem will be "head hunger" Our brains really go to a lot of effort to try to make us think we are hungry--you are NOT. You will swear up and down that you are, but honestly you are NOT. You can only hold about as much of food as the size of your thumb because of the swelling of your stomach. So the liquid fill you up. You will miss chewing because you are on the liquids for 10 days or how ever long your doctor wants you one them. The 1st month is the hardest month you will EVER have to do. I am always here if you are having a problem or need to talk. You can send me a private E-mail: Suzannesh@aol.com Hugs, and congratulations to you! -
Hey everyone! I am just so excited that I had to share! Tomorrow I will be two weeks post op. I go to my follow up at 10. I am getting my staples removed ( thank God!) and I will be graduating to my mushies! I can't wait!

Getting banded has been really great so far. My surgery went without a hitch and I was out of bed and rarring to go almost immediately following. Its early days, but I remain hopefully optimistic that this will work out in ways that all the other diets that I have tried have not. I consider myself a professional inexpert dieter --if its out there I have tried it. Low carb, no carb, nutri whatever, ww, fasting, diet pepsi and cigarettes, opti, medi, HMR, slimfast, diet pills (Rx and OTC) added to the mix to keep my appetite in check. My best and longest successful dieting foray was from the winter of 2000 through the summer of 2003. With boatloads of Water, a low carb diet, and as much exercise as I could stand -- I managed to lose about 90 lbs (this left me still needing to lose about 50 or 60 lbs to achieve a healthy weight by American standards and certainly by my standard). However, the long plateau worked to undermine my dedication and the weight began creeping back at a pretty steady clip. I never again got to my high of 292, but at my first weigh in with the lap band surgeon I was about 268 or so. It was a tough decision for me to make. For a variety of reasons I wasn't interested in a bypass....and it killed me that essentially I am paying someone to restrict my food intake. But the yo-yo dieting had really defeated me. I have been forturnate in that I am a relatively healthy fat person -- but I knew that time was working against me and the older I got -- the less likely that that trend would continue. So it was with alot of baggage that I started shopping around for a bariatric doctor to explore the lap band. The whole insurance thing was/is a hassle. They cover, but I couldn't find an in network provider (in NYC or NJ), just out of network with a threatened 70% coverage amount. I haven't seen any bills yet. I will certainly provide updates as that situation unfolds. Post surgically I have "officially" lost 14 lbs.... this is a little sketchy in my opinion. They weighed me at the hospital the day of .. and I was a whopping 274. I think working the day before from home, planted in front of my computer all day with no food after 3pm and no liquid (because I can be overzealous in following pre-surgery instructions) had me retaining major water. If I go by my last weigh in at the doctor the week before my surgery my weight loss as of 12-19-2007 is closer to 4 lbs. Post surgically, I was bullied by my doctor to lose about 10 lbs. Surprisingly, I have found that I am not at all interested in monitoring my weight other than whatever I am forced to do when I go to the doctor. I mean why torture myself? That's why I decided to get the surgery, right? This should not be interpreted as not monitoring my intake.... I have. Although I didn't do so good with the whole crushing pills until 1 month after surgery. Yuck! I just couldn't. I have tried my best to limit my intake, eat three times a day with no snacking and don't eat and drink at the same sitting. The last has proven to be the toughest thing. Also, it has put me in jeopardy of not taking in enough water -- I am trying but if you can't drink during, or up to 30 minutes before or after, and can't gulp it down like medicine.... I am reduced to totting around a bottle and taking sips all damn day. It has proven to be my greatest challenge so far. :faint: But generally speaking -- its so far so good and I am hopeful that I will have lost another couple of pounds when next I see my doctor 1-15-2008. And if I haven't... that's alright. The average weight gain between Thanksgiving and New Year is like 5 lbs, right? If I managed to dodge that bullet -- its all good. Later,

Any Bandsters from Dallas Texas?
trish151 replied to WEESIE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used True Results in Richardson as well. I had surgery on 2/23/11. I live in Longview, TX, which is about 2 hours and 15 minutes away from there. So far I have had 3 aftercare apts. in Richardson. Basically all they did was have me write down what I have been eating, they weigh me and then ask if I think I am in the yellow, green, or red zone. So far, I have been in the yellow each time so they did a 1cc fill. Each time, the amount has been perfect and the restriction has been just right but as I lose weight each month then I need another fill. The PA said that after I get to a point where I lose a lot of the fat around where my band is that the fills will be fewer and farther between. This last time when I got a fill, I was at 5cc in a 10 cc band and the first 2 days, I could tell it was tooooooooooooo tight. I just stuck with the required liquids for 2 days after a fill and now things are back to good. -

Totally Frustrated Newbie Needs Advice
kelly111 commented on ALittleLoopy's blog entry in ALittleLoopy's Blog
Dont stress out. You are not filled enough yet. You will know it when you are. I did the same thing you did at first. Its been a year for me and I have only lost 46 lbs total. Im now back to a size 10. When you are filled about half way - stay there!!! Dont go tighter. You need to learn HOW to eat and when you do that the fat will come off. I still occasionally have the foods I like but mostly I eat clean. Research what eating clean means and follow that diet. If you are serious about losing the fat you will stay on track. -
This gets better and better as the days go by! My bmi is now 49.7... Whooo hoooo! I aimed for it to be below 50 by month end and with 8 days to spare I'm down to 308 today. This week was really, really, really did I say really?, STRESSFUL!!!!! There were days when I went up to over 1500 cals and I didn't exercise a single day this week but still I lost. Last night I stepped on the scale and it was still saying 310 and I said to myself at least I did not gain under all that stress. But sure enough when I got on this morning, it gave up the 2lbs. Wheeew! Cause of all the stress this past week, I do appreciate the 2lb loss this week even more than the 5lb last week, plus it did put my bmi under 50 for the first time in almost 10 years!!!! I am also elated over the fact that I can now pull on and off my favourite jeans without unbuttoning them, not to mention how much fun I'm having boasting about my skin 'wings' and having my sons crack up. (They're 10,8 and 2 yrs old .... so cute!) lol My husband is now happy that he's seeing our investment finally working. I secretly giggled when I heard him bragging about the weight his wife has recently lost, to someone on the phone. 44lbs and counting... On my weigh down...

What day was most painful for you?
Babbs replied to misi324's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And exactly as @@jenn1 said, everyone's pain tolerance and experience is different as we see in this thread Even if we all had the same surgeon, I'm sure our experiences with pain would be different. I had 2 large babies completely natural. One was 10 lbs 4 oz. But when I get a bad headache? I'm a big baby. Don't even get me STARTED on toothaches! WORSE PAIN EVER. -
Hi all. So I am getting very close to getting my pre-op appointment scheduled and then a surgery date, but problem is I am going on a vacation end of January '23 and it will be to theme parks. I am figuring I will be only 10-13 weeks out from my surgery and I am concerned that I will not be able to ride roller coasters. They really whip you around and can feel it in the tummy so I am concerned about a leak. Has anyone gone to a theme park after surgery or had your dr tell you how long to avoid an activity like that after surgery? I will definitely be speaking with the surgeon about this, but since that is a few weeks away, I figured I 'd see if anyone on here has had any experience with this. Thanks!

9/11 One Week Post
Uniqueladybug replied to Shelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted so bad to have a sip of anything after I ate just to clear my palate! This does stink. It's an hour of time gone! I've noticed my pouch can't handle anything but liquid after about 7pm. It took me a few days to figure it out. I would get nauseous and feel horrible! As we figure the little things out it does seem to get better... One day at a time is all we can do! Will I definately lose weight???
kellyw74 replied to JELLYBEANS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way as you. I remember thinking will this even work for me? I can not fail another time! I was so scared about having 85% of my stomach removed just to not lose weight. My dr. assured me that I would be a GREAT success with the sleeve because I had been successful losing in the past, I just could not keep it off! I needed something that gave me restriction and now I have it! When you can only eat 2 oz at a time, you WILL lose weight! There is no way you can't!! Trust me, you WILL!! If and when you go to a fast food place, you will not be able to eat like you do now, so the thought of putting 2 wraps in your sleeve will not be an issue because if you try, you WILL throw up! You might one day be able to do one, but not two!! My dr. told me that I will be able to eat again, BUT NEVER like I did before! I will NEVER be able to eat 5 pieces of pizza at one time again. I will NEVER be able to eat fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuts, corn & green Beans at one sitting again. I will never be able to go to a buffet and gorge like I did before. I am fine with that. I will however, be able to eat A donut one day again, but I don' t know that I want to. I think the sleeve (for me anyway) changed my thinking! I am 10 weeks out and I really don't want to eat **** anymore. I want healthy things and have not eaten ANYTHING "bad" since 5 months before my surgery. As far as not losing tho, it is enevitable. You will lose because you eat so little. Now, you can't just sit on the couch forever and expect it to just fall off. I have to work very hard for every pound I want to lose. However, I am very close to goal too. Follow your dr.'s guidelines and you will do great!! Kelly -
6 teaspoons to every ounce - wow
Susanne replied to Carmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just about to say what Mini said. I HIGHLY discourage using those spoons or cup measures - HIGHLY!!!! Did I say HIGHLY? Have you ever read something to the regard of "product settling may occur"? Did you ever wonder why your Cereal box is half empty when you buy it? Well, believe it or not, the cereal box was much fuller when it left the plant. They would NOT waste that much packaging material if they didn't have to. Measuring material other than liquids by volume is WRONG, that's why ONLY the physical default unit for liquids is in volume and all other materials are measured by weight. Here are a few examples: Measure a cup of cereal with a cup measure. Pour it in a plastic bag, and drop it on the floor. Now pick it up and pour it back into the cup. You will see it has lost a lot of volume. Now imagine how many times the cereal box got bumped, hit, dropped and bounced between the plant and your place - measuring it by volume would give you a lot less cereal at the plant and a lot more after your 3 year old kicked the box through the kitchen. Measure a cup of strawberries with a cup measure. Now cut them in half and measure them again. Is this still a cup of strawberries? Cut them in half again...you get the point. Consider the difference in size between berries, the big juicy summer berries probably make 3 to a cup, the smaller early berries probably make 10 to a cup. Try it with anything. Put a container on your scale and tare it so it shows 0 (or do math in your head...yikes). First try your Protein powder. It usually says 1 scoop (35 grams) or so. Take a scoop and put it in the container - does it come out to the weight it is supposed to? Probably not. I recently tried it with Benefiber. 2 teaspoons are supposed to be 3.5g. Well, 2 of my little metal teaspoon measuring tools is pretty much TWICE the weight and came out to 6g. Another good example used to be the PB2 Peanut Butter powder, which also came out with twice the weight it was supposed to. So, when I used two tablespoons thinking that is one serving, I actually had 2 servings. Keep a scale handy, and measure your stuff, you'll be surprised...and not in a good way. If you find the scale cumbersome, at least doublecheck your frequently used items - you may be surprised how often you had 2 servings when you meant to take one...and those calories certainly add up. Other than that - you'll eat those amounts in no time, no worries. -
Did anybody divorce after their sleeve?
Banned member replied to Goddardgo's topic in The Gals' Room
Me and my husband had been married for almost 9 yrs when I was sleeved and he's only said something negative about my weight once and this was almost 2 1/2 yrs ago. He said that I "let myself go". He was in the dog house big time after that comment and he knew that was the worse thing he could of ever said to me. It cut me to the core and it still hurts talking about it to this day but he hasn't mentioned anything about my weight since then. Also the fact that I was 3 or 4 months pregnant at the time with our 3rd child didn't help the situation. He knew he screwed up big time when he said it and I still sometimes give him a hard time about it. He's been very supportive about me having surgery and has been supportive overall but he could still improve certain things like not baking Cookies all the time lol. If my husband were emotionally and verbally abusive I would leave but I do realize that's easier said than done, especially when kids are in the equation. Just know that you deserve better. ETA: We are quickly approaching our 10 yrs wedding anniversary and have been together since high school. After surgery I wasn't able to use food, so there were a lot of things that rose to the surface and we had to discuss them. I was an emotional wreck the first two months after surgery, it was hard on both of us but we've solved the problems and have moved forward. I couldn't imagine being with anyone else and he is truly my soul mate.
